What a gift to have stumbled upon this spot! Tiera and Renetta took great care of me and made me feel genuinely welcome. The atmosphere was bright, clean, comfortable, and reminded me of home. Now I see why they say Houston is famous for its Black-owned restaurants with outstanding cuisine. Soul Goode absolutely lived up to that reputation. It is located on the east side of Pearland in a long shopping strip. There is plenty of parking. My usual weekend errands were in the area so I took that as my opportunity to grab some breakfast for me and the fam. I arrived somewhat early on their first official grand opening day. The shop is small with one two tables off to one side. The line was to the door, but the wonderful owners and staff were doing a great job handling all the customers. They have your typical donut shop menu with items such as breakfast sandwiches, a variety of donuts, kolaches and lunch sandwiches. The breakfast and lunch sandwiches can be made on croissants, toast or bagels. Half their display case is savory items like kolaches and sandwiches and one side, and the other half is the sweet items. To me it felt like the donut varieties are less than some of the big name places, but there is still alot to choose from. I ordered jumbo and regular sausage and cheese kolaches for my savory items. The jumbo kolaches were delicious. It was a good size and the breading was very good. It was buttery, soft and has a slight sweetness as well. The regular kolache seemed like a different bread and the sausage to bread ratio was off. My niece tore it up though. For donuts I got a little variety since they were running a special. I ordered glazed, some old fashioned, pink frosted and an apple fritter. The glaze was soft, larger than most and just the right amount of sweetness. My folks loved the old fashion donuts especially the blueberry. The pink frosting donut I was told was good, but we lost most of the frosting as they put it in a bag with other donuts. A box for the amount of donuts would have been better packaging. One of my faves when I indulge in donuts are apple fritters. They did an excellent job with theirs. It was very tasty. They have a couple of fridges with cold drinks as well as a coffee station with Community Coffee I love Community Coffee so I enjoyed that cup of joe. They also have some random light snacks like chips off to the side as well. Overall, this is a great spot for donuts on the east side of town. I feel like the rest of Pearland has lots of options but not so much on this side. I want to come back and check out their breakfast sandwiches and see what that's hitting for. I'll be back.

I enjoyed trying everything but the cinnamon roll was by far my favorite as a sweet tooth, and MT loved the hot honey pizza croissant. Cinnamon roll (5/5)-- described as having cookie butter on the menu, but I didn't taste any of it. However the vanilla bean icing was very sweet and very good! The edges of the roll weren't dried out which was nice, and the center bit was so soft and saturated with that icing. Yum! Kouign amann (4/5)-- interesting take with a contrast of textures with a crispier bottom and a denser, chewier middle. The caramelized sugar wasn't super sweet. Could see this paired nicely with tea or coffee. Almond raspberry croissant (3/5)-- very faint raspberry flavor, would be nice to have more of the raspberry gel or even preserves/jam. MT demolished it, and even though I don't usually like savory pastries, I thought this one was really tasty! Chili chive croissant (4/5)-- super airy, light, and fragrant pastry. Definitely had that chive aroma but the taste was actually quite light and reminiscent of a Chinese green onion pancake. Overall a savory pick but also a little sweet as well. Biscoff cookie (3.5/5)-- sweet from the white chocolate chips but not super Biscoff-y. The texture was dense but soft, not super chewy. Would be yummier with more Biscoff spices or flavor! Smores bun (3/5)-- beautiful presentation and looked promising, but this one was mainly a cream bun. The vanilla pastry was solid, the bread was soft. For my expectations of a s'mores flavor profile, the chocolate ganache could be more chocolatey and less pudding-like, and the graham crackers didn't add much flavor. Great if you're looking for a straight up cream bun though! Despite being busy, the staff were friendly. There's a small window side table for 4 people that was nice to use (although the line snakes right behind your back when seated) + a few tables outdoor. Maybe I didn't pick their best pastries, but I probably wouldn't make a dedicated 30 min drive to visit. Sweet Bee is still a great addition to the suburbs, I would definitely return to try other things if I lived closer! The prices are also more reasonable than bakeries in the loop!
