The whole staff was very nice and helpful. When it started raining during our visit they were always asking if they could call a car for us. The rooms are on the older side but kept clean. David at the front desk was incredible. He learned that it was our anniversary and he upgraded us to a larger room. We're Globalists so we get the occasional suite upgrade, no it's nice when the staff initiates it without having to ask. They were also helpful with tips about the city and with directions. The location of the Dream Midtown is fantastic. It's near several amazing bars and pubs., and walking distance to Broadway and Time Square. It's also positioned over a great train line, making it easy to strike out and see the rest of the city. Most of our destinations didn't even require a transfer. We'd love to stay at this hotel again. read more

Hotels in NYC can definitely be a hit or miss, and Dream Midtown is absolutely a hit. The energy of the hotel immediately stood out to me and set a positive tone for the stay. The hotel is located on 55th Street near Times Square and, most importantly for me, close to subway lines that make getting to the airports straightforward and stress free. I was greeted by a warm and efficient check-in agent and was in my room within minutes. The room was comfortable, had ample space for my large suitcase, and offered a great bed for a solid night of rest. One downside is that there is no fridge in the room, but the restaurant downstairs was happy to fill my cooler with ice to keep my medication cold. The gym is not inside the hotel but located a couple of blocks away, which actually worked well for me since hotel gyms can feel sterile. The gym partnered with Dream Midtown was stellar, well equipped, and very accommodating. Overall, I was very pleased with my stay, experienced no issues, and would gladly choose this hotel again for a future trip to New York. read more

This is a true six of one half a dozen of another situation. First the good. They had a reservation and they knew who we were. They charged us not for incidentals, but before the room which was almost $2800. Because the people were supposed to pay did not Put this on the correct card. As customers they should not have charged us and they should've known better. It took me a good 2 1/2 to 3 hours to get a situated the next day. Another good thing, we were able to go up to our room and a key worked. In the keyword for the duration of our trip! I also appreciate that they didn't promise us something really great in grand and did not deliver, and I'm talking to you, Hilton and Marriott with the apps that don't work on your phone There was a room with the bed, which is also a good thing. It is the smallest room I've ever been in and if it needed anything else, it should be a fridge in microwave. It's frustrating to have food left over and not being able to heat it because there's nowhere to do so. But the room was so tiny it was a touch claustrophobic. The bathroom features a step up into a marble room with marble walla and a raised floor. Bit the safest with the very young or the elderly. Another issue wasn't theirs and that's the construction that woke us up at 8 am each morning and did ya stop. That's 5am PST, so we weren't happy at all. The people who worked there did their best. One of them gave me some passes for a complimentary breakfast and it was quite good. You can see my review. It was hard to visit others in our party. We were in the 11th floor, they were on the 2nd and 4th floors. We couldn't visit because our keys were for the wrong floor. The truth is that it could have been much worse. It could have been much better. I just wish more for the next poor soul to happen upon here. I don't know if this is a place I want to see again. It was nice, but a more basic room with a fridge or a microwave would hit the spot. read more

Let's go! - I've been interested to give this hotel a shot, however find myself most often at the Park South when staying in NYC for business - Why haven't I stayed here in the past? The average/below average ratings I see on Yelp - Stayed here for a (1) night business trip - Hotel lobby was hectic when I arrived (swamped with tourists departing and arriving) - Front desk said that the hotel was sold out, thus no shot at an upgraded room (turns out that I was provided wrong information) - Room size was on par with others in NYC (ie- small for those whom have not stayed in NYC before) - I was happy with my room (clean, bed was comfortable, bathroom had a glass door vs. shower curtain!) - Although I didn't visit the bar/restaurant/rooftop in the hotel (run by Tao) from what I can tell based on reviews, they are good options All and all this hotel was better than I anticipated, and yes- would consider another stay here again. read more

Do not stay here. Has gone down significantly, went to two different rooms and overheard someone saying they found bed bugs in their room when I went to the concierge to complain. This is a nice hotel. When you first walk into the small lobby, you will see a large fishbowl aquarium. They have a cocktail bar inside the lobby area. There is also a nightclub on the roof. Apparently, you need reservations. The rooms here are small but clean. The bed has a lovely canopy structure that gives royalty vibes. My room didn't have a great view, but I'm sure some rooms might, The staff were very helpful. Things to note: The elevators are fairly small for the US. I was getting European vibes in the elevator. They don't have a gym onsite. They give access to a gym a few blocks away. They don't have a refillable water station. Instead, they give small water bottles. On top of that, they don't have recycling receptacles in the room. Hopefully, they separate the recyclables later. The bathroom amenities are by Karl Lagerfeld. Again, they offer small bottles of these products and they were replaced daily. I would give four stars if the hotel didn't create so much waste and if my view had been better. read more

We had an excellent time at this hotel. Firstly, the service here is amazing. From the moment we walked up to the hotel I felt that we were being treated extremely respectfully and received second mile service for our entire stay. They had plenty of water bottles, which I appreciated because New York is expensive and getting water is difficult! Additionally the concierge was extremely helpful with directions and recommendations. The hotel was clean and well kept. There was construction going on around the hotel, but the front desk told us upon check in that if they ever wake us up before 8:30 then we can let them know. We were never woken up by the construction! The only thing I wish we could change: I know the rooms are small, but I think a better use of space in the rooms would go a long day. More storage options would be ideal so you aren't living out of a suitcase. read more

BEWARE: My partner left with bed bugs bites over his body. When I called to report the issue a week after my stay (because I was busy with work), I was told "it doesn't work that way" and that I had to report it during my stay, even though bed bug bites can take up to 7 days to show up. My report was completely dismissed. In fact, he even yelled and accused me of lying because I did not report the bites immediately. read more

The room was clean but extremely sparse, especially for the price. No fridge, no microwave, no coffee maker. Not even a table lamp between the beds! We were on the 11th floor, but the sound of trash guys emptying dumpsters (for a half hour or more, several times during the night) was as loud as if they were in the room. In-room fridge didn't work, headboard was heavily peeling/ripped multiple places, elevator was finicky, wifi only worked sometimes, bathroom mirror light was so dim that it was useless. Called maintenance for the light but they told me that's just how it is and that they get complaints all the time about it. When I searched this up, this hotel was labeled as a 4-star. I call BS. We were given a room and it was not clean. A dirty towel was on the floor and the bathroom was dirty. We called the lobby and they weren't apologetic at all. They gave us a new room that was even smaller. The bed is SO tiny I'm fully convinced that this isn't actually a queen bed. It feels almost smaller than the full I sleep on back at home. The room doesn't even come with a fridge somehow so it's REALLY inconvenient. The bathroom is just ok. This hotel is JUNK. This hotel definitely not on the luxury end of things, but unlike many of the other reviewers, I found our overnight stay here to be pleasant. The lobby is beautiful with this giant fish tank column. Outside f the front check in , there was plenty of seating in case you want to chill or wait for members of your group. There's also a concierge desk. We arrived early and our room wasn't ready, but we were told we could leave our luggage there until we checked in. They take your luggage and give you ticket to retrieve it later. Mike was at the front desk and he was so friendly and courteous and has a wealth of knowledge about New York and what's going on. He actually upgraded us to king size bed, which we appreciated. I asked him about the complimentary breakfast and he gave us to guest passes to Serafina Italian restaurant. If you want breakfast ask when you check in. You will not automatically be given these cards. Serafina sits on the corner adjacent to the hotel. There's a door connecting the hotel to restaurant so you don't have to go outside. Serafina is also where you would go to use the bathroom if can't check in or you don't want to go upstairs to your room. We were only a few blocks from the theater district and where our play was going to be playing which was nice 10 walk. Once we returned, our keys were waiting for us and our luggage was bought to us. The elevators are probably the most narrow and small elevators I have ever seen. In order to go to you floor you must scan you key card or you will not gain admission to your floor. Our key card was for the 5th floor and it would not allow us to press 8 for another guest. I guess this is a safety percussion that I appreciate. The room size was small in comparison to other hotel rooms we've stayed in outside of NYC, but it was adequate for our needs and it was clean. I always bring my own cleaning supplies and I am happy to say no grime was detected:) The room comes with a mini fridge and robes to use during your stay. Don't take the robes home as a souvenir unless you want to be charged. SN: The concierge was a great resource. We wanted to go to a restaurant in Queens on the subway and he told us how to get there and the subway was less than a block away from the hotel. The train he planned our trip would have taken us really close to the restaurant, but because of construction he suggested a stop in Queens that would get us close and then we could take a Lyft. This worked perfectly and got us to the restaurant and back in less than an hour. Would I stay at the Dream again? Yes! The service took it over what is just average accommodations. read more

I walked in and was greeted with a "what you need" from the hotel staff. Less than two minutes from entering the hotel, the staff accused me of "catching an attitude", that "I don't care" that I am a guest trying to check in. Then I was told that "it's too early for this" before the staff telling his coworker to "deal with him". The same staff member then walked back and from from the back office where his manager was, loudly complaining about it "being too early for this", forcing me to raise my voice to give my information to his coworker, who immediately found my information and helped. I was told by the manager that "I'll have a talk with him." That staff member kept huffing back and forth, threateningly. I told the hotel manager the next day my same complaint as the same staff member was working the front desk and he said "I'll have a talk with him." I'm furious that a hospitality company ruined my trip, all I wondered staying at this property was whether this man was going to come into my room and be violent. I hated my stay and the managers made me feel like this is a normal occurrence for this staff member and that they just need to "have a talk with him" and hope this never happens again. read more

It's mindblowing that they would force their guests to use one elevator the size of a janitors closet to let their other two service the rooftop club. This was a really disappointing stay. They only reason we stayed here was for the bowling and game room which we were told has been permanently closed to guests. They shouldn't keep advertising it. Room was very expensive and the size of a large walk-in closet. Bathroom was really a half bath with a shower crammed in a tiny space. My view for $800.00 per night was a brick wall. I also got charged $40.00 per night as a convenience fee for the use of facilities I never used. The elevators were a joke and I would not recommend this overpriced hotel. The only upside was that the room was clean, but that is true for hotels much cheaper than this one. read more

This is one of the least impressive Hyatt brand properties we have ever stayed at. First, they gave our suite away so we had to move rooms on day two, which is a pain. The fact that they moved us into a suite on day two is the only reason they even deserve 1 star, because their rooms are dated and dingy. The cleaning staff do their best, but this property doesn't seem to have been updated since the 60's or 70's. Other huge misses for this property are the breakfast and workout facility. It says there's a continental breakfast nextdoor at Serafina, but there's nothing continental about the selection. It was not even on par with the breakfast at a holiday inn express! Any meat and omelettes were extra. Basically, you can get a bagel or muffin which is ridiculous for a Hyatt property. Much worse is the workout facility you have access to is an 11 minute walk! They could easily give you access to the Thompson or Park Hyatt workout facility, both of which are right around the corner. But then guests would be asking to move properties as soon as they saw the much better options nearby. Make your points or dollars count by choosing any other Hyatt property! read more

I've stayed at the Dream a few times now over the years. Serafina restaurant downstairs is delicious. PHD rooftop bar is a nice view and a stiff cocktail. Get a pic with all the lemons -- everyone is doing it, or so I'm told. Special shout out to Kofi at the front desk -- his infalible good cheer and charm made me feel at home, and unlike so many other tourists in this city, I felt like I belonged. They charge a ridiculous amenity fee that provides nothing of use (unless you want Prosecco for an hour) they block 1 elevator after 4pm for just the rooftop... even if they have a broken one leaving just 1 tiny elevator for guests and staff. Transfer to airport was quoted one amount and paid another $20 upon arrival. Very cheap overall- plastic toilet seats not installed properly, door handle installed backwards to the bathroom, fridge didn't work. Not worth it. Construction noise didn't bother us. read more

Wedding Party Beware! I was unfortunately scammed by this hotel. Charged over 1k for a two night stay in a disgusting hotel. The wedding party family member sent us a quote for $489 for 12/17-12/19 and made the assumption that prices would be $489 for the weekend. After looking at weekend rates costing between around $180 a night I assumed that made sense. After getting there this was not the case. My wife has severe anxiety and didn't want to say anything during booking and I wasn't paying attention. I came back later to clarify and was told an email would be sent to the sales dept. and they would follow up. Two weeks later, there's no follow up so here we are. The room had a view of someone else's room about 10 feet away and was dated to around 1980. I could expect this high of nightly rate for something like the Arlo in midtown with amazing views. Instead we got ripped off by going along with a wedding party and a sub par hotel sales dept. Great customer service guys, hopefully wedding parties book elsewhere! read more

Alright, Midtown is not my favorite, *but* it's always the classic NY experience out-of-towner's expect (Mommy dearest treated us while in town). 4 blocks from Central Park, 5 from Times Square, all the Irish Pubs and Duane Reades and Bakeries and TJ Maxes, right within a few steps. It's the NY all of us expats first fell in love with. Unbeatable deal on Hotel Tonight! Economy room (double bed, city view, 11th floor for approx $170/ night which is an *unheard of* NY price [i.e. COVID special]) Super Professional Hospitality: Because tourism is still lagging, they were nice & accommodating with early check-in. Extremely polite & proactive bellmen. They have also have the hookup to car services to take you to & from aiports, which is about 1.5 x the cost of a cab, but totally worth it if it works for your budget! (Escalade, cheoffeur-style driver), you'll feel like you *are* a RHONY. Through a third party, you're always getting a value and not necessarily asking for the Ritz Carlton. But, this is a wonderful boutique style hotel in the heart of Midtown West/Theater District. Thoughtful, artsy decor. And, let's just get this straight for those visiting the city: NY real estate is minuscule and you gotta get used to it/have some level of respect. We are paying *at least* 3 fold what you're paying in everyday USA-- so imagine the cost of that *whole* building. Oh! And there's a super cute rooftop bar that I *wish* I had made reservations for, so don't make that mistake nor forget your ID like me :) Only constructive criticism: You gotta be patient with that hot water, let her run for 10 mins before stepping in. A week-long stay for a business trip to New York City turned into a nightmare at this midtown hotel, starting with a smelly room and going downhill from there to a soul-crushing, exhausting, upsetting nearly 48 hour experience until things got sort of right. It started when I checked in on a Saturday night after a cross-country plane trip about 9:15 p.m. and the room smelled really musty. The bellman even noticed. My first mistake was I should've refused it but I was more concerned with getting dinner and unpacking. I even considered going to a store and buying some Glade fragrance candles to kill the smell but the nearby stores were already closed after we had dinner in the area. Perhaps the smell would dissipate. But no, the next morning it was even worse and I knew I had to move rooms. A guest relations person named Craig assisted me in the afternoon. The next room also smelled musty so it was on to the next one, which did not have an odor. My clothing had already been put on hangers and the bellman hung them up in the closet. I then realized that there was no room for shoes under the clothing, which consisted of short dresses, tops and jackets - nothing full-length! So what was I supposed to do - put shoes on the floor, potentially trip over them and have the cleaning crew vacuum around them? No. Craig said I had approved the room. Way to try to blame it on me. That was before I realized about the shoes. Then he said he can have a clothing rack brought up. The thing is it was large and would have to be moved around to get to and from the window shades and kind of blocking the door to the bathroom so that was unacceptable. Needed to move again. He then told me to wait because he didn't want to put me in a room that was going to have construction noise beginning Monday morning. (Spoiler alert: which is exactly what happened.) We then went to the third room, which did not have a dresser as the previous rooms did. I asked if a dresser could be brought up and he said no. At this point I was exhausted from an entire afternoon of being in three rooms and decided to live with it, meaning I would have to use my open suitcase on the floor as a drawer for socks, underwear and workout clothes, etc. Great! Just love doing this at an expensive Manhattan hotel. In the meantime, I got something out of the minibar refrigerator and it was so poorly designed that there was maybe 1/8 inch of space between the door and the cabinet so I smashed my right index finger in it, slashing the cuticle and bleeding. Great. The next day, returning from a business event at about 12:30 pm, I came into the room to hear extremely aggressive jack hammering, like a constant earthquake. Unbelievable noise and shaking. I called the front desk again asking to change rooms. A manager on duty named Grace suggested I moved to a sister hotel in Times Square which I did not want to do after all the moving around I'd already done the day before. She came to my room about 1:30 p.m. and said she would show me an uncleaned room to see if it met my approval. It did and even had an outdoor patio although it had stucco walls with high portholes so not exactly a great view of anything. She said it would be ready in the mid afternoon and seeing as how check-in time is 3 p.m., that was fine. I called at 10 minutes until 4 p.m. and she said it would be about 10 more minutes. I called again at 5:15 and she said it would still be a while. I told her I had to leave for another business event in about half an hour and she suggested I get ready in the room I was sitting in, waiting and waiting for the bellman. I told her that all my stuff was already stowed and packed away and that not would not work out. Why didn't she tell me that hours earlier? Getting increasingly upset, I waited and waited until the bellman showed up at 6 PM. At that point I just left all my stuff with him because I had to leave the property for the business event. Why would the room take until 6 PM to be ready for me? So after the business event I had to come back and spend much time putting away all my things, one more time. Then I noticed that the bellman had left the items that had been in the refrigerator in a bag on the floor instead of putting them back in the fridge. Great attention to detail. Although the room was slightly larger than the four others I had been in there was zero counter space in the bathroom and I had to use the toilet lids as countertops. Luckily I had brought my own containers. Items otherwise would've been strewn on the floor. After getting settled in for five more nights, everything else in this hotel was an argument. I asked at least twice and possibly three times for a clock that was not on military time, as I'd seen in at least one of the other rooms. In the US, we are on a.m./p.m., not military or European time. This was never done. A simple request, never fulfilled. I can't begin to explain how much gratitude I have towards the staff here. My partner and I had such a pleasant experience even before we arrived in NYC. The calls we had over the phone with Franklin & all the annoying touristy questions, he answered each one with patience. When we arrived, we felt so welcomed by the bell man (I believe his name's either Erwin or Edwin) and that's how I knew we chose the right hotel for our stay. Franklin, Michael and the other male (I forget his name-I apologize) have been nothing but kind and very helpful. With our early check in (since we arrived at 6 am and it was raining hard on our first day, to a late check out.. FOREVER GRATEFUL and so happy we chose to stay here. Also to the amazing maids..... Thank you for keeping everything so clean. From the little corners of the bathroom, to walls and what not of the windows. Came back to the dream after staying a twice previously in 2019. Decided to go for the platinum suite for my birthday. We made sure we would be able to check in as soon as we arrived. Met with a blonde front desk agent who could not be more bothered. First the room was sold the night before even though we were Promised the night before it wasn't. We called three times that week and secure it. Even offered to pay for another night 4 nights in total. She said that they couldn't process anyways because the cc machine was down. Once she finally looked it was empty. Just not clean. So they had another room ready which we paid for. Thanks for the warm pricey greeting. Drop off our luggage and hit the town. At 3 the room is ready get our luggage back and the bellman had put a cheap gluey sticker on each piece of luggage which once removed left cheap reminders. Ordered room service and got a bottle of wine. Both glasses looked like they had ever piece of food particles from the dishwasher crusted over them. Check the bill they add gratuity already. Thanks Serafina I love a free salad. Next day concierge drops champagne off in the room and the new glasses brought are still just as filthy. I love Perrier Jouet in a filthy glass. No mini bar and empty unplugged fridge. The politely brought up one that looked as if it fell off a truck. But hey it worked. Only paying 600$ a night for a room. Bathroom upon checkin in had hairs all over and it was raining that day. It was actually leaking from the ceiling. Upon leaving we requested an suv and low and behold we get a towncar from 1999. Bellman said it was cheaper so that's what he called. Overall the dream is worn out. Everything smells musty. Restaurant is garbage. Staff absolutely do not care. Club on the top is a fire hazard. Giving an extra half point, so that's a rating of 1.5 I'm updating to include that the manager reached out the next day after I wrote my review to let me know they were on vacation. They also let me know that they put in the request before they left on vacation. Not sure how that timeline works because the email about the points was back in August, yet, they couldn't reach back out to me due to them being on vacation in Oct? Anyways, I got the points so that's settled. Still not a pleasant experience especially since I had to go chase down apology points.... Hoping that anyone else giving them a chance gets a better experience. Hey, maybe they actually are taking feedback and make improvements. Great hotel, centrally located with easy access. This hotel was beautifully decorated and the customer service was amazing. When I checked in the front desk attendant gave me a complimentary bottle of champagne and told me to enjoy my stay! The room was very clean and any issue I had they easily fixed it for me. The city view was amazing and they have great restaurants and and a beautiful rooftop PHD Terrace. The only complaint that I have is that you can't order room service from the hotel, you have to order through a third party site to get food on site. Overall highly recommended if your in NYC and want to stay in a great hotel with amazing customer service. read more

This hotel was a great pit stop during my move to NYC. It is a much smaller hotel but I found the decor unique and was really intrigued by the giant pillar fish tank in the lobby. I was checked in by Anthony who courteously upgraded my room for my grandmother and I. We did check in separately and she mentioned Shawn being quite helpful and polite with her bags. We were right by the elevator which was noisy during housing keeping on our floor but since it was a pretty short stay with a significant mission I wasn't too worried about it. My other critiques were that our fridge didn't get very cold and one of the headboards on the bed were pealing. Other than that our room was spotless and I felt pretty cozy after running the streets all day. Room service was also accommodating by Kevin and Wenard! Nice place, great rooftop bar/restaurant. Priced right summer of 2021. Still trying to find out why they charged me an arbitrary $39 on my card after checkout but you know, you call, get the voicemail, leave a voicemail, and no one calls you back. Assholes. read more

This is a sad excuse for a luxury hotel. This is not the "Dream Hotel" I remember. The refrigerator is broken, they use COMMAND STRIPS for the hooks in the bathroom, and the furniture is all tarnished. On top of that, the room is about the size of a closet. If the rooms are going to be small, at least make them nice for the price you pay to stay at this dump. I came for New York for work and to celebrate my 30th birthday and this is not the hotel experience I was hoping for. Very disappointed. read more

This hotel was everything I needed and was perfect! Nothing amiss (and I am very critical of hotels generally). A bit of street noise but it's NYC, what would you expect? My 9th-floor room was clean, bed very comfy, bathroom perfect, fridge perfect, housekeeping prompt, no weird smells. It's an older building, very picturesque, cute tiny elevators, great location, subway less than a block away. Rooftop bar. Staff very helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again. read more
