This salon is a cute and clean salon in Lake Hiawatha. The owner, Kathy is by far the best hair stylist I have ever worked with! She is professional, warm and very caring to her clients. It was my first time here and I got a cut, color and blow dry and was initially not too happy with the initial cut, but Kathy was able to fix it relatively quickly and give me some insight on my bangs and texture cutting. She understood my preferences and immediately took action. The atmosphere is clean and inviting with some refreshments offered too. They use Goldwell products and the hair wash is really refreshing with a deep clean massage for your scalp. Parking on the street is free and you can usually find a spot. I am giving two stars, an extra star just because the staff was polite and I got an instant appointment. Lack of technical skills. Very disappointed with the experience. I showed her a picture of myself and requested for the same haircut. She did not give much importance to the details of my previous haircut photo. Just a glance after I insisted so much to check how it was cut. I was very particular about my hairdo. She cut it so badly. Nothing like the photo that I showed. The haircut was not even also! Bad haircut for the price of 45$. I had gone for deep root conditioning plus haircut. While shampooing my hair, she did it - by half touching my hair and same with the conditioner application too! Amazing, professional, skilled, and courteous. I do not have enough positive words for my experience at this salon. A little background, I went for a haircut and bridal trial three weeks ago elsewhere and it was the most painful experience I have ever had. They did nothing I asked and I simply could not tolerate how my hair looked any more. I read the great reviews for Drem Salon on yelp and had to make an appointment. (Only 5 min from my house). After Karim washed my long, very thick/course black hair, Kathy listened to every thing I wanted for my haircut. She knew exactly what I wanted. Magic happened while I was in the chair and after a blow out, my hair was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. I am very camera shy but I was happy to let Kathy take photos of her work because I was so proud that it was my hair! Hopefully they will post pictures of it on their Facebook page. I was looking for a hair salon near my home and after reading the reviews here on yelp, I took a chance. I have very long and THICK hair. There are beauticians that have no idea how to cut or manage my hair. It can be a daunting experience and task.... I made an appointment with Kathy and knew immediately that she would have no issues with my hair. She tackled it like a champ.... I asked for layers and to get rid of all of the dead ends. She was confident and with speedy efficiency she cut my hair the way I wanted it. Her sister Karem took over as Kathy had a number of patrons waiting patiently their turn... I heard everyone raving about this exquisite new salon that open in town. I went for a first time visit and I am definitely making this place my one and only salon! I did tons of research for multi ethnic salons in Morris county since moving here a 10 years back. My regular stylist was in manhattan and constantly cancelled appointments I had made months in advance. The last straw was when I asked for a specific cut and she refused to do it. Anyhow, I was totally satisfied with this experience and never experienced a cut like this. I booked an appointment with the owner Kathy for a cut and relaxer and a color. I was running late and walk-in and she took care of me. She took her time and let me explain what I was looking for and explained the products she would be using. I've had my hair colored relaxed and cut by several different places and have never received this level of treatment which was reassuring since I was going for a major cut into a pixie style. The whole salon experience was great. It's small but very posh and relaxing. The staff is great and very friendly. They do not try to oversell any of their products either. Kathy did an excellent job with my hair and gave me the exact cut I asked for. I have never had such an excellent experience as I had at this salon. They do not overbook so when the stylist is with you, they are only with you and you're not there forever while they are working on other customers. Kathy was nothing short of a miracle worker!! I have stick straight asian hair but very little of it. So while I never ask for anything complicated, it's very easy for salons to make a mistake that's irreversible. One wrong snip and I end up with my hair shorter than I wanted or too chunky/blunt, because there's just not a lot of hair to cover any mistakes. I've been going to my regular guy in NYC for over 5 years, but a last minute business trip and having to leave in 2 days meant I was either going to have to risk it with someone new or start brainstorming fun work-appropriate updo's. I'm SO HAPPY I found Kathy at Drem!! I basically walked in as she was finishing someone up, and she sat me down, was super easy to talk to, really listened to what I was saying and proceeded to give me EXACTLY what I wanted in the shortest hair cut session of my life (short in terms of time, not hair length). This is my second time visiting the salon and I thought that it was time to leave a review. I wear a headscarf so I do not get around to taking care of my hair color as much as I should. That being said, when visiting Kathy she knew exactly what would work with my hair color and my maintenance issues. We did a half head of highlights and some on the underneath so that it looked as if it was a full head. No base color, but instead she gave me a beautiful glaze that really made my dry hair shine and feel so much healthier. Although I am not a big hot tools kind of gal my hair is on the dry side and for that she gave me a shampoo and conditioner that I am so far loving! Did not apologize merely stated something came up and would not try to fit me in with another stylist regardless of the fact that it was for a special event and I was forced to go elsewhere. I have been going to Cathy for over 17 years!! I am so happy she finally opened up her own shop!! No one takes their time like she does!! She does my highlights and touch ups with cut and blow.
