My friends and I didn't know what to expect when we came here specifically to have a few drinks. It was only 8p so we decided to drop by and have a few drinks. We already ate dinner. I'm so glad that we did. There were only two other families in the place at the time of our arrival. We got a nice table in the corner. Our waitress was Alyssa, she was very friendly and showed us how to use the barcode to scan their drink menu. We placed our order and to my surprise, Alyssa was also our bartender. She did a great job making my friend's cosmo and poured the Guinness beer properly. We were able to sit, relax and catch up. ABSOLUTELY delicious food. The Chef knows what he's doing for sure. The Korean Beef Bao Buns with cabbage slaw is OUTTA SIGHT! For $8! You cant beat it. The daily specials will blow your mind. So creative. Sadly, the service really is terrible. If you sit at the bar be prepared to wait...forever. The bartenders wont even acknowledge you until you say hello first. They hardly smile. Not friendly at all. Its really a shame. Thats kind of what brings back good business. Good food at reasonable prices. However there was a recent incident that really soured me on the place. A middle aged woman was having dinner with her 20-something daughter. They had both ordered the steak sandwich (which is very good BTW). The older woman grabbed a pepper shaker to add a little to her sandwich and the lid was loose and dumped the entire contents of the shaker on her sandwich. She was clearly upset. She called the bartender over to show him what happened. He suggested that she scrape the pepper off with a knife. She replied that the sandwich was ruined and inedible and scraping off the pepper wouldn't help. Then he offered to take it back and have the pepper "rinsed off". Seriously? I was thinking that it was a $9 sandwich, he should just order her another. How much would that have cost the place, a few dollars to make the woman happy? However the bartender was unsympathetic and obviously unwilling to get her a new sandwich. He was still going on about the scraping idea. Finally a nearby gentleman who observed the incident asked the bartender to give her another sandwich and put it on his tab and said to tell her it was "on the house", which the bartender did. It's a shame that it took a "good Samaritan" customer to make things right for the lady when it would have cost Drewby's little to satisfy the upset customer. read more

All I will say is "what the hell happened to this place!?" Went to new location, AC was not working properly at all and it was 95 outside, service was so slow despite having plenty of staff. Husband ordered an IPA they gave him a bud light. Food was ok, nothing special at all. Specials still look interesting but don't taste at all as good as they once did. Where is app Mac and cheese that they used to have that was so good?? Used to be my favorite local dive and I am so sad to say that I dont think we will go back. read more

This is a favorite lunch spot for many of my coworkers. It's dimly lit, with a slightly dive-bar feel, but the food is great and also reasonably priced. There is always a long list of daily specials - I highly recommend ordering from that list, sometimes there are some really unique dishes. Last time I ordered lettuce wraps from the specials list: a half head of lettus to use as wrappers, served with seasoned ground chicken, Asian peanut sauce, soy dressing, peanuts, pickled onions,and veggies. Drewby's Grill Pub is an unassuming neighborhood watering hole in Manville conveniently located to the Manville Reading Theater and Wal*Mart. Drewby's features decent, very affordable food prepared by a high-energy cooking staff in a semi-open kitchen at the front of the restaurant and served by a very attentive serving staff. Drewby's offers a better than average range of draft and bottled beers. Several other reviewers have pointed out Drewby's extensive menu - which runs the gamut from traditional bar foods like boneless ribs, burgers, and chicken fingers to more eclectic creations like fish and chips with rosemary fries. I had the flat iron steak with parma crust and garlic shrimp, which was acceptable but not phenomenal; my girlfriend had the veal cutlet served over lettuce and asiago cheese, which was much better. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable. The highlight of the evening was the live music - a fantastic acoustic guitarist who played an eclectic mix of classic rock and modern rock. This place is actually one of the best hidden gems in NJ. If you haven't been here, please make sure you check it out. We actually filmed here for my food review show on YouTube, "Foodie as F***", and as always, the food kicks ass! This place is a semi small restaurant (they're moving soon to a bigger spot), with a lot of noise, but great food. You walk in, and it looks like a typical bar/restaurant spot and it's sort of dark, but that's not too bad because I don't mind that. The atmosphere here is loud and a bit old school. Visually it's not the most stunning place, but I don't think it's going for a classy look and it doesn't need to. The food is f*cking outstanding! From the pizza to the steak sandwiches (which are my perishable favorite there) are so juicy, so delicious, and so addicting, I have to get one every time I go there now. The owner of the restaurant not only runs it; but he works his ass off in the back and cooks too. They take ordinary dishes that would be boring at other places and spice them up and add new flavors that make you just so happy. I always get something new there if I'm very hungry along with my favorite steak sandwiches. He is such a cool, nice guy and works hard to make sure his food is great; and it is. If you love barbecue or pizza or some good pasta, you're in luck! The all around atmosphere is good, but it's just very loud. The staff is very friendly and cool. They're actually opening in a new spot that's about 2 blocks down, so they'll have more room, outside seating and that will make this place even better. I highly suggest coming here for the food. If you have sensitive ears or hate the loud bar atmosphere, you may not enjoy it though since it's always usually loud and near the bar. Food was good, service was not. I have been here many times before, and had a great time, this time was a let down. Came in for dinner Sunday night with family from out of town. We were seated very close to the other tables even though there were only about 5 tables occupied in the restaurant. It was so tight that one of the waiters was even bumping into my chair, because there wasn't enough room to get by. We placed our drink order and my dad asked for water with lemon, and the lemons never came even though we asked twice for them. Waitress told us they were cutting fresh ones for him, but these never came out. Finally we just gave him the lemon out of one of our sodas. They had a special on wings, although they were out of the "special" wings and only had the full priced ones available - so we passed on those. Also my Dad's meal came with a salad, and they only had 4 dressings choices - Vinaigrettes and Honey Mustard - none of which my dad will eat. We asked if he could substitute something else -mashed potatoes or a vegetable and was told no. If we wanted to substitute something else we would be charged full price for the item. So we passed on that too and my dad just gave his salad to someone else. Rest of the food was just ok. We specifically came in for mussels marinara, and this was decent, but it was spicy even though we ordered the regular red sauce, (they offer white, red, or spicy). It had a big of chunks of garlic in it which was over powering if you bit into them, but was still ok. We also had steamers (clams) which were pretty good. These came in a wine(?) broth, which we weren't expecting, but they were good. My boyfriend had the Chipotle steak sandwich which he enjoyed. We also had several orders of pierogi which were good. It took a pretty decent amount of time to get the food, which was odd since they weren't busy. Our waitress also seemed to be bartending, and wasn't coming around very much. There were at least three other people walking around, wiping tables etc, but they still had the bartender serving. Another person ran our food to us, and no one was clearing the empty plates off the table. (There were 4 of us at one small table, so we were running out of room with apps and entrees) We had to ask them to take the empty plates. They just came up holding new plates, kind of looking at us. and then tried to walk away without clearing the plates. Finally my Father got annoyed and just started walking the empty plates over and putting them on the empty table next to us. We also wanted to order additional food, and had to ask two different people before the waitress finally came back over. Overall the food was ok, but not as good as it has been in the past, and the service was a major issue, especially considering how many staff were walking around and that it was not busy at all. This used to be one of our go to places, it had the best food for the best prices. Service was a crap shoot, depending on the night, but the food was always consistent and delicious. We would be there at least 2-3 times a month. Much of that has changed..... The service has actually gotten better and more consistent, friendly people and decent attention. The food is still well prepared and fresh, those aren't the issues. The problem is the menu has changed considerably and I am not sure what they are are trying to be. The specials are still interesting and well priced, but nothing like the old specials. The standard menu is drastically changed. Pizza's are gone, replaced by a chalk board, and all the old got to items are gone as well. The dishes are just "meh"....like is said fresh and well prepared but nothing I can't find anywhere else. The wine/beer menu is also drastically small, the selections of wine are usually out of stock and their beer offering in the age craft beer is surprisingly limited. We have given them a second and third chance since they moved, but each time we've returned it's been a little disappointing. I'd love to see them succeed but that would require them return to the old menu, get some craft beers and make sure the wines are in stock, but until then I'll probably not return. read more

First off we stopped there on a football Sunday, walking into what could have been mistaken for a funeral repass. 7 men watching 2 big screen TVs...with the sound OFF! ??? There is no background music, no sports conversation on what they are all watching (Giants game) just silence. It was numbing and made traditional old man bars seem hip. Quiet. uncomfortably quiet... thankfully the bartender was very nice, friendly and professional. The drink was not. They need to update their alcohol selection. Bottom line we stopped to have a drink for the experience and the environment. Our most recent experience with Drewby's was disappointing. It was right before Christmas and the restaurant was busy. After we were seated they set two tables in the middle of the room to accommodate a party of six people. This did not allow the aisle space necessary for most of the wide hipped wait staff to fit through. Instead of going around the other side of the table they continually crashed into the table and my chair. The female chef was not in the kitchen and much of the food that came out was crap. I had the stuffed pork which was dried out and old tasting. Their Poutine is a joke. It is no better than diner disco fries. The potatoes were frozen and duck fat was not used. The service was horrible and we couldn't even get the old waitress to return for the check. That may be my last visit to Drewby's. read more

A hidden gem! A popular local haunt, Drewby's is routinely packed with a diverse crowd enjoying great food and good beer and bar selection. The menu is a mix of southern favorites, Italian greats, and new cuisine specialties. The standing menu features such amazing options as the Shrimp Po'Boy for just $8. Make sure you upgrade to the Rosemary fries. The pizza selections are very reasonably priced as well and the taste was near perfect! Two favorites include the Buffalo Chicken and "The Jerk" which included jerk spiced chicken, shrimp, peppers, onions & sausage. In addition to the menu, there are usually a few great options on the specials list. Recently I had the boneless beef rib appetizer - we we're scraping the plate for the last few drips of sauce. It pays to call ahead as Drewby's can be packed. Highly recommended! read more

Went to this place on a Monday afternoon for lunch when it was decidedly uncrowded. We ordered the nachos as an appetizer and they were among the best nachos I've ever had. Two of us got the chicken/freshmozz/roasted pepper sandwich with fries. Very tasty. The other 2 in my party got personal pizzas, one sausage and the other a pirogi pie. Had never heard of the latter, but the little taste I had was really good. Service was great. I would have given it 5 stars maybe, but the cleanliness of the old bathrooms left much to be desired. They need to replace the flooring as well in the dining area. I think they keep it dark so you don't notice the fact that the place needs some sprucing up. But I would go back, as the food was very tasty and a great value for the money. read more

My friend had been going to Drewby's for some time now and she had been talking up the joint as this is her go to spot for delicious Calamari. So we finally went one day last week. I went in expecting bad service and good food, as per the reviews and my friend. I give Drewby's 2 stars for the food, 4 stars for service. THE FOOD: The first round of Calamari was just OKAY. The Calamari was not breaded enough and few tentacle pieces. Halfway through we decided to get another order, since we were hungry and one order wasn't going to satisfy us. BIG MISTAKE! The second order was not good, soggy, barely breaded, absolutely no tentacle pieces. We didn't finish half of it and just filled up on beer and delightful conversation. THE SERVICE: Contrary to previous reviews the service was pretty damn good. Our server was a female in her mid twenties . She kept checking on us, was friendly, and attentive even when customers had filled the dining area. Calamari lovers beware!!! read more

The pub is casual with a large menu. I thought it was going to be your standard Pub food... I'm happy to report I was wrong. I ordered the Goat Cheese Spinach Salad and the Claims & Broccoli Rob French bread appetizer, they both were outstanding. Went back last night to Drewbys. I moved to Manville and had to go meet Billy who delivered food to my dad 2 years ago! I met his daughter who was fantastic! Last night was my first visit to Drewbys. If you look up "hole in the wall" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Drewbys. That being said the food is impressive. The ambiance is difficult to describe. You feel like you are in a Knights of Columbus hall that shares common space with a pizza parlor. This is a really cool neighborhood bar that should be a dining destination. I enjoyed the clam chowder and the stuffed mushrooms at the bar. The stuffed mushrooms were outstanding. They were stuffed with crabmeat and covered in a very nice cheese sauce. They were served in an iron skillet with terrific French bread. It was obvious that there was a lot of care in the preparation and presentation of this dish. This place delivers excellent food that is well above the usual pub fare. read more

I'm a fan for sure, this place is great. The food is fresh, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Pizzas are great, the wings are good. There is one thing that I didn't like. They advertise Poutine with Cheese Curds (poutine must have cheese curds) and they use fresh sliced mozz instead. Any self respecting Poutine lover knows that this is unacceptable. This American style that Drewby's offers up is still tasty, but they say Curds right on the menu and it isn't. read more

I feel like the chef used to work in a fancy nyc restaurant and was like "screw this, I'm going to manville and just do my own thing on the cheap!" Everything is very reasonably priced too. Over the years, I drove past Drewby's and never though much of it, until I tried it with a friend recently. We went for lunch in the middle of the week, the place was dead except for the few people sitting up at the bar. The server was super friendly and helped make suggestions in what to order. We started with an order of fried calamari, which I thought was very well done. Crispy and light, how it should be. I ordered a burger off the specials menu. I had mozzarella, roasted peppers and prosciuto. It was cooked medium how I ordered it. So delicious. Food prices are extremely good(Probably deflated because of the bar). I had meant to try Drewby's for a while now and finally stopped in today after reading the two recent reviews. The place is a somewhat old fashioned bar, with a couple of screens, four beers on tap, and a fairly extensive menu. Service was just OK since there was only one gal taking care of thirty or so diners. The place was noticably noisy, partly due to the open kitchen in the front. The bar itself was quiet on a Saturday afternoon, but there was one large group dining when we came in and a second large group as we were finishing. The crispy artichoke was nice as an appetizer, the chorizo and white bean soup was just OK. The steak was very good as another reviewer mentioned. The veal cutlet was good but very far from fantastic. Portions are generous. I would stop by again for convenience only. Not worth a trip. read more

A great neighborhood bar, with really good food. Although I think the menu is a little lacking in selection, everything I've ever tried is good. There's about 3 waiters that work there all the time and are starting to become familiar to me. They're very helpful in making selections and the service is fast. The have live music once in awhile too. This place is not spectacular, but it's good. It's very rare to find a restaurant in central Jersey that's not a chain, and for this Drewby's gets 4 stars. read more

Amazing! I would go here everyday if I could. The specials are always great and their chop chop salad is awesome. I always thought this was just another Manville dive bar but once inside it's actually very nice. It's like a pizza place, fine restuarant and dive bar rolled into one. I don't know if I'd go here for a romatic night out, but it's perfect for every other day of the year. My fiance and I bring all of our friends here and they're always surprised that there's a place like this in Manville. If you've never been there GO. read more

We've been to Drewby's a few times. This *could* be a terrific place, but for a few things. PROS: The quality of the food ranges from good to excellent. The portion size is very good. The service overall is good, but spotty at times when they get busy. If you're on a budget, there's plenty to eat under $10. The fancy stuff runs to $20 (except a seafood special that's $35). CONS: So, what would I change? The draft beer selection is slim (4 or 5), and the wine selection is basic (this is Manville, after all). I'd gut and rebuild the nasty bathrooms. I'd replace the terrible lighting. I'd significantly freshen the interior. I'd find a way to get rid of the dozens of tiny flying bugs that are all over the wall beneath the giant, nostalgic sign reading M A N V I L L E (I would have photographed them but as I mentioned, the lighting is terrible), one of which landed on my empty plate. I'd replace the faux-wood salad bowls that remind me of the early '60s. Parking sucks but we always manage to find a spot within a minute's walk, and there's not much they can do about that. The kitchen is really part of the dining area, which makes it...interesting. Since its lighting is almost as bad as the dining area's, I don't know how they can work. I think our server was taken aback that I wanted change* when I paid the check. The bar side is a more enjoyable experience than the dining side, and the pizza is excellent. I'm really on the fence with Drewby's...one bad experience and I don't think I'd go back; until then, I tolerate the shortcomings and hope the owner someday takes my advice to heart. *18% had already been included on the check (this was a special case; ordinarily 18% isn't included unless you have a large party in most restaurants). Had I had free choice, I would have left 15% as the service was ok. read more

First time to Drewby's this weekend. Overall very positive experience. The food was great, the service was nice, but the place was very loud. They are moving up the road soon so hopefully the acoustics will be worked out in the new place. Most of the food was made right on the premises. The italian dressing and fresh fried mozzarella were fresh and very good. I had the pink peppercorn crusted flat iron steak. The steak was prepared nicely and the peppercorn sauce had a nice peppery bite. The mash potatoes had way too much garlic. A little light on the draft beer selection. They had Shock Top, Bud Light (which was empty), 312 Urban Wheat, and Sierra Nevada. If you get a gift certificate watch the expiration date. This is one of the few places that still put an expiration date on their gift certificates. read more
