David Burke you need to do better. I don't mind spending $200 plus for a night out but cold food is unacceptable. I have been to pretty much all of the upscale restaurants on the Jersey shore and Manhattan but never have I been served cold food from bread to entree. I have to agree with some of the negative reviews. I actually like this place the last few times. Let's start with the drinks. Drinks are skimpy. Need to give people a decent cocktail. Appetizers bacon, flatbread came out iced cold. For my main I ordered the lobster and shrimp with squid ink pasta. Lobster chunks and shrimp used to be cooked in the sauce they last few times I've been here. This time they put a small lobster (which tasted pre cooked and was very dried out and on the side you get four shrimp. Don't think I'll be coming back. read more

It saddens me to say, but now I understand why some of David Burke's restaurants get mixed reviews. One Friday evening, I decided to stop by drifthouse on the way to my shore home; about 40 mins away from it. I arrived around 7:45PM valeted my car (I think it is required) and went to the bar. Service started off better than it ended and I ordered a watermelon pisco cocktail within minutes. I sipped on it and hated it, then decided to order. I had the lobster baked potato which was tasteless and bland; the lobster itself was a little chewy- wasn't even worth the calories. The shrimp guactail was their take on shrimp cocktail with some whipped avocado- was interesting but I only received three shrimp for the appetizer portion. Once I was done eating, none of the bartenders asked about my full watermelon cocktail or coffee/tea/dessert/the check so I was stuck at the bar for 30 more minutes waiting to receive my check. I finally did and I was heavily swayed by the slow service, mediocre food and terrible cocktail, which I was fully charged for by the way. They never even offered to switch it out for a different drink! I don't think I'd waste my time returning and there looked to be several busy restaurants on the same block that might have a better cuisine! read more

Let's get it out of the way... this place is not cheap. With that said, let's talk about why it's worth the cost. The View: -You're on the water. Nuf said. The Service: -We had Cody who was friendly, intelligent, knowledgeable of both the wines and the food, was not afraid to offer his opinion to your queries of what to order and made great suggestions. His wine suggestion worked out great for both mine and my wife's dishes. When we go back, and we will, I'm asking to be seated in Cody's area. The Food: -ZERO complaints. Not one. My Rib-Eye was cooked to perfection. Juicy, tasty and my knife practically fell through it. The yellow onion rings were crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. I've been a regular at Drifthouse since November 2020. I ate at Drifthouse on Tuesday, August 17 and not one staff member was wearing a mask. Apparently, David Burke's bromance with Donald Trump is in full gear even if it means putting the public's health at risk. Also, there is so much staff turnover, what was once a familiar and friendly place to go is filled with strangers now. Even the chef has changed in the past 10 months. The flatbread used to be divine, now it's meh. Hope they don't change the mussels sauce. But, honestly, not sure I'll be back. read more

Went here for Mother's Day and couldn't have had a better experience. The food and wait staff were top notch. At the end of the meal they surprised the kids at our table with cotton candy, great touch that capped off the experience really well. Two thumbs way up! read more

I had the chance to stop at Drifthouse about a week ago. I excited to return, not to mention I was hungry and was looking forward to a fantastic meal as that's what DB restaurants are all about.   First & foremost service was, as always, excellent.  I set at the bar and had two of the bar staff looking after me.  As it was restaurant week the bartender made a good suggestion for me to do three service all inclusive which was an appetizer, main and desert.  I ordered the mussels and halibut as I've had it before.   Again service outstanding - they gave me a healthy pour of Sonoma Cutrer.  My mussels came out right away, I mean right away (within 3 Mins of my order) which surprised me.   The food runner placed the plate right from me and I was ready to dig in, this is where things get weird.  I typically eat mussels by breaking the shells in half and use one to scoop out the mussel.  I picked one up and realized quickly it was cold, I grabbed another it was weirdly warm, I felt it - the shell had small hot spots.  Yeah not normal.  The bartender checked in with me so I asked,...were they meant to served cold.  He was mortified and walked my dish back to kitchen. The runner returned again somewhat quickly. The mussels were now warm to the touch but quiet honestly and the bartender again asked,..they were horrible.  (Not really recognizable, chewy, dry, shrank to the size of a pea.) For me it was - clear pre-cooked mussels were pulled from cold storage (the cold mussels were already open when first presented), then a microwave attempt with marinara over the top for BOTH of the portions brought out to me.   Again the bartender checked in with me on the 2nd round. I was honest, not mean spirited,  and simply told him it was horrible and I was a bit shocked.   I restored our confidence at the same time by saying I was sure the Halibut would be as I have had on several occasions, very good - and it was.   I was not charged for the mussels, my glass of wine was comp'ed, and I tipped the guys very well.  This was not on them, it was on the kitchen and the runners. I will be back,...not running back(!),  but I wanted to share this for the DB team & kitchen. I guess the message here is - if you go to a DB restaurant you expect nothing but the best,...so when a guest orders the mussels do the right thing. You had 2 chances on such an easy dish and kitchen task and failed miserably. read more

Our experience today was... okay. And I mean, everything could be described as "okay." The server's knowledge of the menu, the bar's ability to mix a drink, the filet (which was over-cooked and lacked flavor), the sides... it was all okay. The guy next to me had the perfect filet! Red and flavorful, and mine was medium well at best, but I overheard we ordered it the same way. The Brussels sprouts were great! Another thing to mention: not to be the fun police, but I saw a waitress at the server station (near the lobster tanks) put a bottle of white wine to her face and drink and decent amount. I get it, whatever you have to do to get through your shift, but this is a decent establishment and I would hope that my waitress wouldn't be tipsy while serving. When we came here a year ago and everything was amazing-- from the specials, to the server, the drinks, and the food. First time for dinner in the restaurant's new incarnation and we were really hoping it would be great.....and it was!!! This is a restaurant for grownups without being stuffy or boring. Top notch service from valet to host to server. The menu is varied among vegetarian, fish, pasta and prime aged steak dishes and all was executed really well. We enjoyed the lobster dumplings and a beet salad before rib eyes and filets for dinner. The sides are not just an accessory - the spinach and mushrooms totally stood out on their own. We had the cheesecake lollipops for dessert - yummy and a fun presentation. Add to all that cocktails and wine and it was a delightful dinner. The view of the ocean or the river and creative selection of background music adds to the overall experience. We made our next reservation on our way out. This place is great, folks! read more

We had terrible experience, service was extremely slow, I understand waiting for food, but waiting 20 minutes for bottle of wine is too long, our waiter simply forgot, then forgot to bring ice in glass after 2 reminders never got it.. at the end we were double charged, no apologies, as if it's not a big deal, manager K.Harris was extremely rude and the charge on credit card is still not fixed for overcharge. In my opinion they did it hoping we wouldn't notice after few glasses of wine lol. Better check your bill before you pay there! read more

We had our wedding at Drifthouse, in the middle of Tropical Storm Ophelia, and it was incredible. Penny, the event coordinator, was outstanding - she was patient, kind, and made sure every want and need was met both before and during our wedding. The entire staff was nothing short of fantastic - attending not only to us as bride and groom, but to every single guest without being overbearing, and seemed genuinely happy to be there and happy for us. Also, we had a nautical theme and barely had any need for decorations as the entire restaurant is decorated so beautifully -- we especially loved the jellyfish lamps! Onto the food -- incredible and ABUNDANT! The passed apps for the first hour set the tone for an incredible night -- the lobster dumplings, lobster rolls, crab cakes, mushroom risotto arancini, baby lamb chops, and tuna tartare tacos did not stop coming! Every single item was the correct temperature and so delicious, people were raving about them. The servers were great at making sure every guest had as many helpings as they wanted. The dinner stations were equally amazing - sliders, pasta, BACON, carving, raw bar -- our guests could not stop raving about the food. Every single person left full to the brim and so impressed, and most of them cannot wait to come in for a dinner! Of course it was the best day of our lives, but we cannot imagine having had this event anywhere but here. Solid 4 Star dinner. We went for our anniversary on a Sunday night around 730. It was close to empty but I expected that being a rainy Sunday night at the end of April. They offer half price bottles of wine and a pre fixed menu which I was not aware of prior but we did opt for it since their were items I wanted to try on their and also wanted an additional app. We ordered the surf and turf dumplings. I was super excited to try. The lobster dumpling was a bit of a disappointment but the short rib dumpling...OMG. I would order again and again and next time will as for 4 of those and forego the surf all together. We selected the beet tartar and the kale and romaine salad from as apps from the pre fix. They were equally as good as one another. I liked the kale spin on the Caesar. Loved the perfectly soft egg. Entrees were the roasted branzino and the house made rigatoni. Again equally good. Loved the hummus and olive oil accompaniment with the branzino. Pasta was great texture and taste and also left enough for a second serving the next day. Our desert was the sorbet and berries and triple chocolate torte. I'm not a desert person but they were very good. Overall we would come back again. Even though with the wine we priced at about $200 for the dinner, The pre fixe menu was a steal. read more

Tried this place as we were given a gift card. Staff were welcoming, food was good. Wine list outstanding. The atmosphere is lacking. We were seated in a booth next to a cracked window looking over ocean ave. And in line with kitchen staff running by. The main dining room was full. The outdoor seating looks over a big pool and the tables and chairs were more patio like than fine dining. I prefer consistency and am not sure toward what atmosphere the restaurant is aiming. read more

Well it doesn't matter how good the food is if the managmenet is poor... Made a 7 pm reservation for burger night with live music. Arrived at 7 pm to see every table sat. We stood at the check in for maybe 5 mins, no one came to help us. We finally flagged down a server and asked if there was a hostess, she said she would get the manager. The manager (Nicholas) came and I told him I had a 7 pm reservation. He told me it would be a 20 min wait. I repeated that I had a reservation- he never asked my name or confirmed it. He told me unfortunately they were booked. I told him yes, I am one of the people who booked. He apologized and left. We stood there. STOOD THERE. He never offered us somewhere to sit or a drink or anything for 20 mins. He then came and took us to a completely closed off room in the back. BY OURSELVES. A whole room away from the music (you couldn't see or hear anything). It was like being put in a time out. When we said no this is unacceptable he claimed it was "all he had". I repeated again that I had a reservation. He said he understood but they had a lot of walk ins so they didn't have any tables left. I told him that he obviously doesn't understand the concept of a reservation. He repeated that he didn't expect so many walk ins. Then he left us in an empty room just sitting there. A server (Sarah) came over and new how unhappy we were. She was shocked to hear we had a reservation, it was now 7:35. She cleared a table for us, herself, and sat us in the main room. She brought us drinks, she got us a free appetizer. She was pleasant and lovely the entire time even though she knew how frustrated we were. She truly saved the night. Nicholas the "manager" never came back over. Never apologized. We paid full price for the meal and drinks, and tipped more than 20%, because Sarah made an effort. We were married last month at The Drifthouse by David Burke and Penny Kaplan was our Director of Private Events. We had a Saturday afternoon cocktail reception after being married in the Gallery Room. From start to finish - the food, the service, the atmosphere, the attention to detail - top notch! Penny worked with us to plan a menu individualized to our specific requests. Our guests are still talking about the butlered hors d'oeuvres out on the deck - baby lamb chops, pretzel crusted crab cakes, jumbo shrimp, mushroom arancini - each one more delicious than the next! Our buffet style lunch included David's famous clothesline bacon, an off-the-menu cacio e pepe risotto and orrechiette with rapini- just so delicious! Our wedding cake was included and was made by Chocolate Carousel in Belmar. The wedding cake was spectacular and the other desserts included fresh pastries, chocolate covered strawberries and David's famous cheesecake pops! The dessert table had everyone raving! Our wait staff was so attentive that guests remarked afterwards how polite and wonderful they all were! Hosting our wedding celebration at The Drifthouse was the best decision we made and Penny was the reason! She is so personable, and was genuinely excited to help us in any way. She made thoughtful suggestions, was easy to get in touch with and responsive, looked to make any request we had happen, and even helped out decorating the mantle! The food here is not good and am surprised to read good reviews about how good the food is. I would say this is more a place to come for the beach type setting, although I didnt think the view was that great from the restaurant, maybe it was just our table but I didnt see a full ocean view. I guess I am biased, I come from NYC / Jersey City and know what good food should taste like. And the restaurant isnt cheap, so my husband and I were pretty disappointed that not only was the food not great, but the dinner was also around $200. Wont be back! read more

Great night out here! Started with an amazing cocktail at the bar with Tyree, then splurged on decadent starters (the bacon was incredible!), followed by a most delicious filet mignon. What an awesome restaurant! While down at the shore for 4th of July, I found this restaurant researching nice restaurants to eat at. It's located above one of the swim clubs right on the ocean. We chose to sit at the bar and had the pleasure of having Tyree as our bartender for the evening. Tyree makes the best drinks and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable with the menu. He is the best! We chose the clothesline bacon as our appetizer. The presentation is pretty cool as the bacon is hanging on clothespins. Extremely flavorful and served with a pickle which I've never heard of before and was actually good. I wasn't super hungry so I chose the asparagus and burrata salad for my main. The burrata was so creamy and the sweetness of the watermelon and saltiness of the prosciutto went so well. My husband had a two pound lobster, Drifthouse style and talked about it for days - he said the stuffing was epic! For my drink I had an amazing tequila drink with ginger and jalapeño called Ginger spice and everything nice. We saved room for dessert and had the truffle chocolate cake which was so decadent. The interior of the restaurant has cool NYC vibes with exposed brick, beautiful bar, and really cool paintings from a local gallery. We loved this restaurant so much that we went back two days later. Lucky for us, David Burke just opened a new restaurant in Fort Lee near our home with some of the same menu items! read more

You really have to suspend reality to eat here. We made reservations for 8:15pm and arrived at 8:05pm. We checked in with the desk and were told to wait in the bar because they still hadn't seated the 8:00pm tables - bad sign! Went to bar and couldn't get served - too busy. Finally, a customer at the bar let's us squeeze next to him and order two drinks. Now its 8:30pm, still not seated and can't get bartenders' attention to settle bill. Its obvious they are overwhelmed because the bar is filled with dirty glasses, plates and napkins; a real mess. I go back to the front desk and ask, how will you find us when our table is ready since we weren't given a beeper. The same man that checked us in, asks for our name and says, "you never checked in", - bad sign! We check in, again. At 8:45pm, we're seated, with many apologies from a very nice hostess. I tell the her that we tried twice to settle the bar bill, but they ignored us. I ask if they can add it to our meal bill - "No problem", she says. We're seated, and an even nicer waitress comes over and we order. I ask for the scallops and octopus, but can they hold the octopus since I don't like it - "No substitutions", she says. OK, so even though its now 9:00pm and I don't want to eat heavy, I order the duck, well done - "No, it will be too tough", she says. OK, forget it. I know by now I'm not going to have dinner, so I order the cheapest thing on the menu, the cavatelli with vegetables and my wife gets the bronzino. Apparently, at a David Burke restaurant you eat it his way or forget it - real class. Bronzino is fine, but to be honest, my wife says its as good as a lot of other places. Nothing special. My pasta is crap. Utterly tasteless, seriously tasteless. No salt, oregano, rosemary, parsley, nothing. It literally tastes like the pasta you sample from the boiling water to see if its done. I leave it untouched. The waitress is all apologies, but we ask for the check. I reminded her that we still owe for two bar drinks and she goes to the bar and they give her the wrong bill - are we surprised? After we straighten that out, she offers us dessert on the house, but we've had enough. We pay the full price, including a meal we neither ate nor took home. Please note, that at no time did anyone offer to get me something else after they saw I was eating nothing - bad sign, and indicative of a restaurant operating on low margins. This place was a disaster. The food is mediocre at best and while the waitstaff tries desperately to make up the difference, the problems are systemic and beyond their ability to correct. It is no better than Woody's. Rooney's or the Rum Runner, and they are half the price. But, the fact that the manager NEVER came to our table, says everything. And, while he or she could still reply to this review, we have no expectation they will. the Drifthouse is a really bad restaurant trading on the reputation of its chef, but delivering very little. I think the chef needs some new recipes! The menu is limited and plain boring with no imagination whatsoever. I went there twice. First time there i ordered the Topless Chicken Pot Pie which was just awful. I could buy one from Mrs. Stouffer's that was better, and I definitely can make a better one myself. But, i am always accused of picking the worst thing on the menu by my husband, so i was willing to give it another try. We went again for my birthday and I ordered the crab cake with shrimp scampi. The crab cake was encrusted with some kind of pretzel and was hard as a rock and utterly tasteless, along with 4 of the tiniest shrimp, (for the price they should have been jumbo) which they should have called prawns. ALL this awful food for only 45.00! What a joke. My son ordered red snapper, which was the smallest filet I've ever seen with some shredded vegetables that he finished in about 3 bites. Where do these people get the nerve to charge what they do for this subpar food?! David Burke? You cant keep getting by on your location or your built in clientele from the beach club. I for one will never go there again and ill be sure to tell everyone i know. When the quality of your food matches the prices you charge, then maybe i will consider coming again. read more

Someone recommended this establishment so we thought we'd give it a try. We yelped it and saw only good reviews. It was a Saturday night and the DriftHouse opened at 4, my wife and I arrived at 4:40 and the place was not packed, maybe 4 of the 12 tables were occupied. Hostess asked us if we had a reservation, which we didn't, and she said she would see what she could do....after about 5 minutes she seats us. The waiter came over as soon as we were seated and handed us a food and drink menu. Then he disappeared and didn't return for a good 10 minutes. Asked us for our drink order and left...15 minutes later he returns with our drinks...in which one of them were wrong...he promptly returns to the bar and fixes the problem. Upon returning we ordered are meal ,which by the way was a fixed menu and price, nothing like the website menu. Although it was a very good variety of choices, 3 courses which included dessert. We ordered the (1)Mussels and Clams, (2)Skirt Steak and Halibut Fish for the 2 Courses. After 38 minutes the first course came out...which by the way was EXCELLANT...after finishing the Mussels and Clams we asked the waiter(who we had to search out) for some bread to dip in the sauce...His answer was they didn't have any bread but we could purchase a loaf of Artisan bread (what TOP of the Line Restaurant doesn't have regular bread for dipping)! Second course come out 10 minutes after we are done with the M&C....the Skirt steak and the Halibut were PERFECT...It was now 7:20 and we still had a 45 min ride home...We told the waiter to box the dessert to go.....I was very upset with the customer service since the restaurant was never crowded and thought it was only me BUT on the way out we met a couple who were yelling about how bad their service was and actually walked out before they were served. I would NEVER recommend this establishment to anyone in the future!! read more

We came here to celebrate a special occasion and was told (prior to coming) it would be loud and crowded. I guess the crowd stayed away that night because they were still digesting their turkey dinners from Thanksgiving. The service and food was pretty solid. Fast and pleasant service! The bacon appetizer was tasty but kind of kitchy having it hanging from a string like clothes drying on a line. I've had similar bacon elsewhere so I didn't think it was a big deal. The oysters were delicious. I ordered the bison short ribs, which already came with veggies and a starch. What didn't look like a big portion was big on flavor and heaviness. Its technically ok for one person and a hungry person can definitely finish it. The sauce was very intense....lots of flavor and very rich. The meat was very tender and easily fell apart when moving the fork around in it. It was perfectly cooked!! Desserts was good, esp the mango one. Everyone else enjoyed their meal. The most awful Experience. We were seated on time for my reservation and we waited 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge our presence. We were also seated one table away from the live music speakers and I couldn't even hear myself think much less try to have a conversation with my wife which I was looking forward to. Maybe I should chalk it up to bad luck. After placing our dinner orders, our waiter disappeared with the promise of coming back to take our drink orders. After 10 minutes he showed up and took our drink orders and we waited another 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Our appetizers arrived before our drinks came. Unprecedented in my dining experience. If this institution had any sense they would at least have a round or two of drinks ordered and served before any food arrived like most places do. Our waiter was a very nice young man but I think he was extremely rushed and spread Way Too Thin with a terrible result in service. it seems like the wait staff was very understaffed that evening. My mussels appetizer arrived and it was cold. Maybe the kitchen mis-timed preparing the order and waited for my daughter's chicken fingers to finish cooking while my appetizer became cold. I asked for my burger to be cooked a tad above medium and it arrived rare. Actually it was burned on the outside and raw on the inside. Someone needs to turn the gas down on the grill a bit. Our waiter swung by and acknowledged that the meat looked undercooked and he gave me a bit of a BS story but he did offer to take the meat back. I declined and finished my meal because I didn't want any unwanted surprises to come back for one and I just wanted the agony of this experience to be over. We waited another 15 minutes after the meal was over for our desserts to arrive and they were decent. The coconut ice cream the came with my wife's cake was delicious. We were there the other night and like usual the service was fantastic. Drifthouse has plenty of staff walking around handling various tasks.. which is important now esp since most restaurants are struggling to fill spots. Food was excellent ... our server .. I apologize but I forget her name ... was very attentive without being annoying. Food came out at a perfect pace and the view clearly was beautiful as usual. This was a special occasion for me and my two sons. Table was wobbling and asked the waiter to help level the table and he said okay ran away from the table and forgot he didn't do anything. My sons had the filet mignon and the rib eye steak and our empty glasses of water weren't affected by the motion of the table. 5 draft beers were served within 2 and a half inches from the top. Apologies were offered by the waiter at least 4 times for the different delays in service. In spite of the service we had a nice time.. food was very good. Restaurant week is a busy time.. with reservations we were seated on time. Hostess was gracious . Server was friendly but overwhelmed as was the kitchen. Spending $200.00 , service should have enhanced the experience not the opposite. read more

Amazing cocktails!!! The view is superb. Service impeccable. And the food is just outrageous. Try the Lobster Dumplings, Mussels, Rigatoni!!! All the steaks are juicy and mouthwatering, cooked to perfection. Don't forget the bacon on a clothesline...it's insane! Desserts are great. Highly recommend, should be a staple in the Sea Bright dining scene for many years to come. Kudos!!! read more
