Not a bad location. If I don't renew my tags online, I will typically visit one of the suburban…read morelocations to avoid any crowds, and downtown. I had to visit this location twice over the winter. First visit: To have something corrected on our marriage license since the Middletown location made yet another mistake(the lady out there made a half-dozen mistakes on our license, five of which we caught when we were there). This was a simple in-out. The lady told us we could've waited until we filed it to have them correct(white it out)/to save us a trip, but I didn't want to wait(a-n-x-i-e-t-y about such things). Second visit: A return to drop off and file the marriage. Again.. a simple in-out during a snowy time in the city. We went ahead and paid for 2 certified copies. Both times were great. The employees were nice, helpful, and talkative(without doing too much). Parking seems to be easier downtown now... they have signs posted around for street parking so you can text a number and pay/reload your time. I like that. Every city should implement it. The building is also an old courthouse, so it has that historical flair. Good visit. If I ever need to go in for tag renewal, I wouldn't hesitate to use the downtown branch again.

I waited half of my time outside the building. Someone had brought a little fold-up chair with them and that was genius. I was very cold and the wind had no mercy. Glad I had a coat. Arrive before opening if you're walking in. I got there at 8, the parking lot was full, and the line was halfway around the building already. Be sure you've got all your correct documents. You don't want to wait at least an hour to get in, and then have to leave (or scramble to get the correct hard copies as I heard some folks doing in the lobby). To get a RealID, the process is this. They direct you first to a QR code to sign in and get a virtual place in line. Then they check to be sure you have the right documents. You're allowed to sit down after this. Next you have to take the vision test, which is very quick, and then when your phone tells you you're up next, they direct you to a little maze of cubicles to get your photo and other details, pay the fee, and voila! You're done. Everyone I came into contact with was professional and kind, and moved things along as fast as they could. If I had to do it again, I'd try to get an appointment and skip that 50 minutes of shivering outside. But honestly it was much better than I expected.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and the security officers were professional and respectful. Our first family member was assisted at Window #3, where the representative provided excellent customer service. She was polite, professional, and made the process smooth. 5/5 Our secund family member was directed by reception to Window #5. Unfortunately, the experience there was very disappointing. The representative immediately asked whether we were US citizens or had Green Cards. I explained that we are legally in the United States, are waiting for our Green Cards, and have valid work authorization. She then stated that she could not assist us because we were not US citizens or permanent residents. Her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional. Employees who serve the public should treat everyone with respect, regardless of their immigration status, especially when the individuals are legally present in the country. Professionalism, courtesy, and respect should be provided to every customer. The older female employee treated us feel discriminated against because of our status. 0/5 After the interaction, our second family member completed the entire process at Window #3, where the representative once again provided excellent service and handled everything professionally and respectfully. 5/5 I also updated the address on my own driver's license. The receptionist kindly explained that could complete the change, and I was then assisted at Window # 1. The representative there was friendly, respectful, and very professional. The process was quick and efficient. 5/5. I hope management recognizes employees who provide outstanding customer service, like those Window #1 and #3, and also addresses situation where customers are treated disrespectfully. Every person who visits the DMV deserves to be treated with professionalism and respect.

I got email and text reminders for 48 hours before my appointment. On the day of your appointment you check in on-line, an easy process with the link they send in a text. That generates your number that is texted to your phone. Number(s) being served are listed on TV screens in the lobby and your name and number called when it is your turn. I waited about 10 minutes in a waiting room FULL of people, saw my number pop up on the screen, got a text alert and heard my name called. After another 5 minutes at the clerk's desk I was walking out with my license renewal paperwork to my car. Now that driver's license are laser printed you will have your license mailed to you in a few days. The 3 star review section. The waiting room is broken into two rooms. Both rooms were full and one very confining. The woman at the desk seemed helpful but not very friendly. The computers had been down, they were using a new system and turned about 5 sets of folks away who needed naturalization assistance saying that system was down. Folks had been waiting long periods. I doubt I would have stayed if I had not had an appointment. They is ample parking.
