What is it w Siskiyou County businesses? Yaks has quality food but something needs to be done with the upkeep of the outside. The tables are disgusting, the pavement needs to be pressure washed, the trash cans are covered in filth and the flies! I've been numerous times and I never see anybody come outside to do basic cleaning. We were there last week and were horrified. Reviewers were not kidding when they said this the best breakfast burrito they've ever had as I totally agree. It sounds crazy saying Keeping it Simple breakfast burrito was out of this world, but it was. That aioli sauce of theirs is deadly as it just paired with the whole mix of hash browns, eggs, avocado... just delicious. I love a good strong black tea and their Earl Grey delivered for the day. This my 2nd Yaks visiting in the Shasta area. Excellent food and service. The only bummer and it's not Yaks but the peeps there buying have gotta mask up and social distance so we can get this COVID situation calmed down. Yaks is doing their part. They have signs posted that they practice social distancing however they let anyone walk in without masks which I witnessed while waiting for my food. Now I'll start of saying that the cashier was very friendly and nice. My issue was that the red head preparing my food had her mask down. I was wondering why and then I noticed her eating while touching my food that she was preparing. As a cafe / dining establishment you would think all employees were trained that you should never eat while in the kitchen let alone preparing a customers order during COVID. The worst place to go for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The wait time is beyond unreasonable and uncomfortable. You wait in a line to get in this tiny shack where you wait in another line. We found this little gem of place on our last day there. We wished we could have known about Yaks much sooner!! We were so excited to have found this place and tried it out nonetheless. We just ordered a green "thang" smoothie (ginger, spinach, and orange juice and I think banana?), the asiago bagel, and the vegetarian wrap and they were all a hit with my 9 yr old. She devoured the bagel and kept saying "Mmmmm" with every bite lol. The staff was super friendly and even though they butchered my name when the food was ready ( lol, we laughed so hard and it was so funny how she pronounced my name, it was very cute!) I still love this place and felt the love from them! I will be back for more!!!! I love Mt Shasta its like a second home for me now. read more

Sadly, our excitement from all the reviews did not live up to the actual experience. 1. Safety - terribly. There is a sign on the door to wear a mask. Yet half the people coming in weren't wearing them and the staff did nothing. People were leaving out of discomfort for the environment. (we heard them say this outloud on their way out) The place is also not set up to have "social distancing" - maybe 3 ft between each person and 1 foot when you're ordering. Not to mentioned, the gentleman in the back only covered half his face. 2. The service - very nice guys but completely overwhelmed. I had to repeat my drink order 3 times and it still came out wrong. I could tell he wasn't fully paying attention. There's only 2 people taking orders, making coffee and making food. Unfortunately, this caused us to wait an unusually long time. Again, multiple people left after waiting in line for over 10 minutes, not to mention how long it took to actually receive the order. They are not organized 3. Quality - My husband said his latte tasted like dirty water. Mine was WAY too sweet. But, their breakfast bagels were good! Great prices as well (but sadly not worth it if it doesn't taste good) Overall, if you care about quality coffee, good service and a safe place where you feel comfortable during these times...go somewhere else. It was interesting to read the reviews prior to visiting, it seemed like people either love it or hate this place. Having now been, it does seem to cater to those who aren't exactly looking for the big-portion diner experience, but instead appreciate healthy choices and creative tastes, not to mention plentiful vegan and vegetarian options. I personally loved this spot, it was right up my ally. My boyfriend felt the portions were smaller than he expected and he also mentioned it being pricey for what was offered (he was relating more with the poorer reviews), where as I felt the portions were perfect (he was full after eating his "small portion" btw). There were also games available (chess, etc). The people taking our orders were also extremely pleasant, with contagious smiles. I ordered the veggie burrito which was tasty but was a little heavy on the chipotle sauce. Next time I order, I will know to ask for light sauce. And I ordered the coconut latte (with almond milk instead of hemp because they were out) -also good. read more

pretty good. the garlic aioli that comes with the vava voom burger is superb and i love the grilled onions. there wasn't much service, the workers just take your order and you wait until they call your name to go and grab it. there are no tables inside, but luckily it was nice enough to sit outside. it was a good burger, but i wasn't blown away. i enjoyed bistro 107's service and food and atmosphere more. i wouldn't mind coming back, but i'd definitely choose bistro 107 over yak shack. unfortunately, bistro 107 is closed on wednesdays and thursdays, which is why we came here instead. read more

My boyfriend and I went for lunch after spending all morning on the road, we trusted the reviews and highly regret it. he got a coffee and when he added the creamer that they had in their canister, it instantly looked wrong. it was separating and wouldnt mix right with his coffee. when we took a sip, i had to spit it out as it was all curdled and the coffee was sour. they replaced it for an iced cold brew which he only took one sip of because it was also completely gross & borderline undrinkable. they need a new coffee blend that doesnt taste sour and extremely bitter. (we are coffee drinkers so its not like we dont know what a decent coffee would taste like) he also got a chipotle salad bowl & it was overwhelming. way too many key flavors thrown together that just didnt make sense to be together in the same bowl. the flavors clashed so much, it was just not enjoyable. i got a plain cheeseburger which was great but when i asked the cashier for it, she made me feel like i was a total idiot for requesting just a cheese burger. "you mean like the one on the kids menu?? thats the only plain cheeseburger we offer" and suggested a loaded bacon cheeseburger from their main menu as an alternative, i said no i just want cheese. (the whole menu is a compilation of insanely overloaded, overwhelming burgers) she said "ok so it will have to be from the kids section of the menu" but to my surprise it was a full regular sized adult burger so i didnt understand why she made it so complicated while ordering as if the kids burger was going to be a tiny little slider. its a burger shop, i didnt think it was that unusual to ask for a cheese burger.....the parm/garlic fries were pretty good except the cheese was sprinkled on them straight from the fridge so all the cheese would just fall off the fries as i picked them up, same with the store bought minced garlic. we were really disappointed for the money we paid & we wouldnt recommend it. the cheeseburger and fries were alright but again, for the price you pay, not worth it. read more

Creamy caramel latte was a letdown. Order the bagel with jalapeno cheddar cheese and it was too salty and the bagel wasn't chewy enough. The burrito was also too salty. I probably would try the other location that have more than a thousand reviews for their burgers and the sticky buns. It wasn't a problem for us but it would be nice it was called out. As for the chai, it was okay. It looks like they don't use a chai spice powder like most places in Washington. This seemed to be one of two coffee places open early in Mount Shasta, and their espresso was my preferred of the two: bright and with a nice lingering flavor! The service was super friendly, and the baristas even were offering sightseeing advice to travelers (like me).
