This place is definitely a pub, and not a good one. We live an hour from Pinehurst and dropped in here on our last visit. We waited for a very long time to be seated and the table was dirty. No one was seated at the bar and the bar tender was no help. The waitress talked to the table next to us 2 times. She walked by us and did not acknowledge us. With menus on the table and us waiting to order, another waitress walked by. Both waitresses walked by us many times and then, believe it or not, went to wait on the same table. The bar tender played on his phone. I can't comment on the food, but the menu was very limited. I see this place is for drinks only. After a 20 minute wait and no service, we left and went somewhere else. read more

The atmosphere and food are both 5's. The only reason I'm giving this place a 4 is due to the service. Hostess was amazing, helpful, and sweet. Both servers working outside could use an attitude adjustment. Will give it another try though as everyone has bad nights from time to time. read more

Let me start by saying that this place is always packed. From open to close, there is usually a wait for a table or seat at the bar. One of the best bars in Pinehurst! They have a larger selection of ciders in comparison to most places in the village. It is a very charming restaurant with lots of character and always has great live music on the weekend. I'm not a huge fan of the food as the vegetarian and gluten free options are limited. However, my friends LOVE the fish tacos. The fries are thick cut and always perfectly hot. read more

I love the atmosphere here. It's fun and kitschy and the friendly staff wears bow ties! They also have enjoyable live music frequently. The burgers and sandwiches are tasty, especially the turkey sandwich! The reason I've knocked a star off is because of the slaw mix they use on their tacos. It's weird. And not in a good way. Solid spot. Came in for dinner and went for steak and wine instead of burger and beer. Rookie mistake I'm sure. Steak was ok. Fries were oily. But I like the vibe and think if I stuck to sandwich and beer I'd have been happier. Seems like a great spot for beers with friends. Came alone...damn I'm off on a lot of levels here. I have good friends in Pinehurst who introduced me to Drum & Quill four years ago. Now I make sure we go every time I visit! You can't beat it. I am the D&Q's #1 Virginia fan! Our group most recently visited for lunch this past Saturday (Memorial Day weekend). We knew the pub would be busy since it was a holiday weekend with beautiful weather so we arrived well before we hoped to be seated at noon. Even though the place was already packed when we got there the host welcomed us with a big smile and made sure we got one of the last booths that would seat a party of five. We lucked out and were right beside the window--great Pinehurst people watching. If you've never been before, it's one of the prettiest towns around. Trust me, I know. I've traveled all over the world. Pinehurst is one of the greatest places I've been and the Drum & Quill is a big part of why I'd say that. Back to lunch last Saturday--as I said, the pub was packed so we were prepared to wait a bit. We didn't mind, given the great ambiance and friendly service. Our server, Emily, sets the bar for stellar attitude and attention to detail. And she's just fun. Emily kept us up to date on our orders and made sure our waters stayed full while we waited. Several of us enjoyed the $5 Bloody Marys that were on special--make sure you eat that pickled okra in your Bloody! Even if you think you won't like it, try it! I did and loved it. One of my friends got a blood orange mimosa and let me have a sip (we're all vaccinated!!!)--so refreshing and also a $5 special that day. We started off with the pimento cheese tray that included homemade pimento cheese (I'd know if it was store bought!), picked okra, carrot and celery sticks, fried wontons, and cucumber slices. It was the perfect appetizer--not too little, not too much. I'd order it again. I had the seasonal sandwich, which that day was chicken salad with dried cranberries. LOVED IT. I can't stand chicken salad that has too many ingredients; the D and Q's is perfect. Huge chunks of tender white chicken, just the right amount of mayo, and the dried cranberries added the perfect little touch of sweetness. I also had the fries and they were done perfectly as well--crispy and not overly salted. Portions are generous. Most of us took half of our meals home to enjoy later. I would have liked to have had dessert but I was too full! Can't wait to go back to Drum and Quill next time I'm in town. They make me feel like family!! read more

We were visiting in town and happened to come across this restaurant. It is cute little restaurant with outdoor seating. At outdoor patio they had very powerful heater so even it being chilly weather the patio felt nice and they were very dog friendly. I have to say by removing few tables would bring more space to the patio because the tables are packed very close. Clam chowder was not my favorite because it was very watery but the pulled pork nachos were very yummy. It was large shareable tray of tortilla chips, pulled pork, bbq sauce, queso, lettuce, tomatoes and jalapenos, so good. I would definitely have that again. Randomly decided to come here based on a recommendation and had the best time! The atmosphere is beautiful. Friday and Saturday nights they have live music and the ambiance was just perfect. The host and our waitress, Lauren, were so friendly and personable. The food was delicious: I had the FGT taco which was so unique and tasty. The bourbon cake was also fantastic! Must be very patient. Good is taking way to long to come out. Even soup and salad took 30 minutes, just plan for it. Atmosphere is great.

Really enjoyed this place for a casual dinner with a great traditional Americana atmosphere in one of the most beautiful areas in the country. My burger was delicious and one of the best in recent history that was can remember! The drinks are also made well and the selection is excellent. I would definitely return here for the ambiance and great drinks because it is perfect after a long day of golf. I love Pinehurst and I cannot imagine a future trip without making a stop at the drum and quill. No pub captures the culture of Pinehurst better than this place. read more

Great food and a fun atmosphere, right in the heart of Pinehurst! Definitely worth a try if you are visiting or a local.

My husband and I went here for the first time on Saturday night, and it was delicious. We sat outside on the patio area, and it was beautiful. We got there just before 5:30 and it was starting to fill up. Was really crowded by the time we left at 7:00. The food was delicious, and our server was very attentive and friendly. My husband had the Black n' Bleu Burger, which he enjoyed, and I had the Pimento Cheese Burger. I would definitely recommend the Pimento Cheese Burger! It has a fried green tomato and melted pimento cheese on it, and is so yummy. :) It was a pretty decent size, too, and with the fries that come as a side I could only eat half my meal. I had dined there several times when I lived nearby. I left in 2017 but came back to visit friends in Pinehurst. First place I wanted to eat was the Drum and Quill. Because of the quarantine, we had take out. The fish and chips were excellent, fried to perfection with good portions of fish and chips with cole slaw. When I get back to NC, I will get back here and dine in the newly renovated pub. read more
