Love the Fish and Chips. Have tried a couple other restaurants in town but found the D&Q had the best. Nice light fried coating which was not too greasy. Tarter sauce paired up well. Cole Slaw pretty good too. If cod isn't your thing, give the Shrimp Basket a try! Same great coating and fresh! read more

I stopped in for lunch and was immediately greeted by friendly staff. Ordered the special which was a patty melt. The bread was homemade marbled rye and delicious. The burger was cooked perfectly. If i could give a 1/2 a star i would. We walked into the bar and we waited while waitresses walked around. Finally sat ourselves down and grabbed our own menus. We waited again for quite awhile; maybe we should have left but we wanted to give them a chance. The food was mediocre AT BEST. The appeal of this place is the location. That's it. On my last day at the Pinehurst, I wanted to venture outside of the hotel for something "local" I guess...basically, I wanted an excuse to check out the village that I hadn't seen yet. After perusing around the village for a little bit, I settled on Drum & Quill, and it's definitely a cute little place. It appears that they regularly have live music and that this would be a fun place to watch football games. My family and I tried to eat there recently. We waited in line, the only ones, for at least 15 minutes. We were assured multiple times that they "would be with us shortly". We were patient although we thought it was strange because there were several available tables. Finally, after standing there, awkwardly, in the middle of the restaurant, a waitress stopped to tell us that it would be at least 30 minutes for a table. Why had she waited 15 minutes to tell us this? It was apparent that the 3 of us were waiting to be seated. We couldn't tell if they were just incompetent or what?! Stopped by with my wife shorty after restaurants opened back up for a quick meal. We have eaten there several times Pre-Covid and were always pleased with service and food quality, especially burgers and soups. This time service was fine but food was pathetic. I ordered a rueben and the corn beef was rubbery and discolored - really disappointing and my wife said her French onion soup reminded her of dishwater. I understand covid presented restaurants with significant challenges but please, management has to be aware of what is being served. Wow that was delicious!!! A friend highly recommended it but I was weary just because I didn't know if I wanted bar food. But this was far beyond bar food. It was so good! Staff was great and very helpful in picking out what to eat. There were so many things that looked good! Ended up going with the appetizer of nachos which the wonton chips made the dish even better! 1st Star - Atmosphere - Love this location. Great location within Pinehurst. Set among small shops and boutiques. Walking distance from the Friday concerts. The bar itself is homey and comfortable. 2nd Star - Staff - The staff are friendly, with that perfect amount of Southern charm. They're knowledgable about the menu and quick as can be. Ask and you shall receive. 3rd Star - Food - Love the menu! Everything we had was delicious. I would definitely recommend their burgers and their apps. We had the teriyaki nachos and they were to die for. 4th Star - Parking - Ample street parking located all along the street. This was our fourth try at Drum and Quill since it opened. Prior to last night, we were disappointed every time we dined there. After seeing good reviews online, and living in Pinehurst, we decided to give it another shot. I was hungry for fish and chips and this was the most positively reviewed entree. We placed a drink order which came back to us totally not what we ordered. After getting that straightened out, we placed our dinner order. The meal came out incredibly fast. My wife liked her shrimp tacos. My fish and chips came out with very mealy; fish atop a few potato chips, even though the menu said it was with fries (which I expected). The chips were mushy sitting below the fish. Totally subpar!! My wife is a huge bread pudding fan so she ordered their bread pudding to go. When she started eating it at home she was disgusted by the absence of any semblance of flavor and sauce. She tried to doctor it but thought it was so disgusting, she threw it all out. We are done with this place. I enjoyed the owner's father's tv show years ago but this restaurant is really lacking. read more

The food and service were good, however I was with my husband and two children, one of which is a 9 month old. I asked for a high chair and was told they don't have any so they gave me a booster seat. My 9 month old cant sit in a booster seat, especially one with no safety belt of any kind. Instead of enjoying our lunch my husband and I spent most of our time juggling the baby back and forth because he had nowhere to sit so he had to be held the entire time. Had a wonderful experience yesterday afternoon at D&Q ' from the moment we stepped in James was friendly, welcoming and gracious. We sat inside and discovered a wide range of cocktails, beer, appetizers and good options! our waitress Juliet was cheerful,helpful and efficient. I went here with my mom and grandmother today for the first time. We ordered an appetizer and three entrées. After almost finishing the appetizer I noticed that there were not one but two DEAD FLIES on the "fresh" mozzarella on the fried green tomato app. The server handled it well and apologized immediately said it would be comped. By the time our entrees came out we were pretty much too disgusted to eat them. I never touched my meal and my mom and grandmother nibbled on some of theirs but we eventually sent it all back because we just had such a horrible taste in our mouth from the DEAD fly experience. A manager never came over to apologize but again, the server was super nice about it and I know that this falls on the back of the house. We still left her $20 because she was so sweet and comped our whole bill (as she should have). I never would've left a review but after the appetizer incident I could overhear the wait staff saying "this sh!ts gonna be all over Facebook".... Well it's not but IT SHOULD BE!! But Yelp will reach more folks than my lil fb page so here we are. Cool hipster vibe at the place but clearly some nastiness going on in the kitchen. Location is great in the heart of the village. Always start to wonder why a restaurant has a sanitation rating in the low 90's. Then my drink arrived with lipstick on it. The filet was very tough and overdone and the hard boiled egg was a little on the green side. Live music made it nearly impossible to have a conversation. With a lot of great pubs and restaurants in the area, it'll be a long time before I give the DnQ another try. read more

I had the hamburger with mushrooms and grilled onions with sweet potato fries and it was pretty tasty. I like they it's served on a brioche bun. Hubby and son had the monte Cristo. Service was fine, no complaints there from me at all. My issue is the food. I ordered a $13.50 black and blue burger from here and pub chips for lunch. The burger meat itself was cooked to temp, however had no blackening season or even salt on the meat at all. It was a very bland Patty with a small amount of blue cheese and bacon, nothing else. The pub chips also we're not even salted and worst of all cold and stale. I will not be eating here again based on the meal I had. Worst burger over $10 I've ever had. read more
