Just recently , I discovered the Drunk Donkey. I have passed by there so many times but never stopped in. I finally did and glad I did. It is a casual atmosphere and everyone is relaxed . We have been here several times for happy hour and it's all been good. Elliott is a great bartender and whips up a perfect Mango Margaritas. The appearance itself is picturesque. 6/08/2 Getting lunch. Not real welcoming at all. No greets or anything after entering. They have the menu, order and pay via cell scan. Ordered their Mexican bowl. Ordering has issues. FYI. It automatically does beef with it. Luckily, I was able to go to the bar on the right side and spoke to the bartender. Very nice! Fixed my order and even offered same chicharron to sample. Really great! Tasty! Shortly later, my order was brought and looked really delicious! Very nice bar! Bars on both sides. One side has pool tables too. The other seems like the area to eat more and just enjoy! My lunch REALLY fresh and DELICIOUS! Tasty! Salsa making it even better! LOVE! Hot & Fantastic salsa! Chicken cooked perfectly! Great salsa, beans, rice and avocado! Yum! The bartender ended up being really great! The salad was large! Leftovers! I had lunch this afternoon at the Drunk Donkey Bar & Grill, which I have had bookmarked for quite a while. I am disappointed to report that this visit is a one-and-done. The DD is a rather large place. One side is the bar and the other side is the "restaurant". The entire place has maybe 50 televisions and absolutely ZERO personality. (Think furnishings by Cafeteria's Are Us.) You would expect someplace fun and upbeat with a name like Drunk Donkey Bar & Grill. Perhaps the name is for the eight people bellied-up to the bar throwing down cold-ones at 12:01pm. We finally figured out that there was no table service at the DD Bar & Grill so we strolled over to the counter to see what was up. The food side was deserted and lights out. The bartender noticed us and quickly ducked back over to the bar side and ignored us. I don't know...maybe we should have ordered a couple of noontime brewskis in order to get anything out of that guy. Although, he quickly perked up when it was time to take our money as we were leaving. Anyway, we finally got got someone to take our food order. I had the DD Nachos. They looked and felt greasy. The chips were soaked and glistening with oil and tasted burnt. The toppings, however, were decent. My friend ordered the DD Fries. They looked really good and I think that she liked them more than I liked my nachos. There are 2 self service drink fountains that were pretty much non operational and unclean. After several tries, I finally found a functioning Diet Coke lever. Straws are on the counter in a help yourself bin and are not wrapped. Unwrapped straws alone are worthy of a one-star review. Again, maybe we should have ordered the noontime brewskis. We noticed 2 other patrons that were also ignored while waiting at the food counter, but they were smart and left without saying a word. I have said enough about the Drunk Donkey Bar & Grill, and I am happy to remove this bookmark from my Yelp. My recommendation for this place: Avoid. read more

No bueno was the only comment I could think of while eating with a friend at DD Grill. This place reminded me of a cafeteria. The sign said to ring bell for service, but I couldn't find the bell. After we walked around clueless for a few minutes a gentleman finally came out from the kitchen to help us. Many of the pictures on Yelp showed very colorful and beautifully presented dishes. I have to say that is not what we were served. I had the DD fries and my friend had DD nachos. Mine was fine and his was barely edible. The dish didn't wow me or amaze me. The soda machine was dirty and didn't dispense the correct amount of soda/syrup. I did see other guests coming in and facing the same confusion with how to order and waiting for someone to acknowledge them and they eventually left. I hate leaving bad reviews so I came back on karaoke night in hopes to change this review to a higher one but I was disappointed even more! Arrived at 8:15 assuming they had food but the kitchen was closed, no worries we went to a taco truck and grab something to eat before a night of singing and drinking. Came back around 9 or so to only find out they didn't have a mic that worked for Karaoke, no worries let's drink! I seen a table that ordered a Hand grenade. I never heard about those and they looked like a fun drink to order. I asked the bartender what's in it and her reply was "an assortment of liquors" I asked again but rephrased my question to know exactly what alcohol was it it she rudely replied with the same answer "an assortment of liquors". Annoyed I waited for the other bartender to tell me what was it in. The drinks were great btw. I order a mango IPA and the tap was dirty. Glass was dirty. Two of the girls I was with went to use the restroom and their was throw up all over the place. Bartender was aware and she simply placed a chair in front instead of cleaning it. Eventually I believe the owner or bar manager went in there to clean in. The girls used to men room only to be offered some "party treats" The music was terrible. One of the speakers were blown. DD has been in Tulare for a little while now, and we drive by all the time but hadn't checked it out. The wide diversity in reviews - people seem to love it or hate it - made us even more curious, so we went earlyish on a Friday night. It has a hangout vibe, with several TVs, some high tables, buckets of beer bottles, and occasional loud music. There's currently some minor construction in progress to create a wrap-around bar. The Mexican-focused menu isn't apparent from the restaurant name, and the choices are limited, but it includes a decent cross-section of options. I'd call my enchiladas and husband's chili verde, both with rice and beans, a blend of authentic and American-style Mexican food. We ordered at the counter, which as others have said isn't obvious, but we didn't have to wait, and the food came out quickly. Prices were reasonable. The owner/bartender/order-taker was very nice and friendly and offered outdoor accommodation if we bring our dog, which he plans to offer anyway in better weather. We appreciated the personalized hospitality. I can see that they might be short staffed if the crowd grows into the evening, but they're planning to switch to bar code table ordering, which should help. And what restaurant isn't short staffed these days? Not a place for quiet conversation, but if a little more casual liveliness is your thing, this could be a good choice. read more

Came back to try new items on the menu! We had carne asada nachos, ceviche plate with chips, and a mexican salad with grilled chicken! Definitely all a 10/10! The nachos were loaded with toppings just how we like it! The tortilla chips were crispy and freshly made. The ceviche had a great taste. I'm really not a type to order seafood if they place isn't known for seafood but someone told me to try it and it did not disappoint. It was definitely cooked all the way. I believe that they boiled the shril and let it fully cook with lime (which is my theory based on the texture) but it was refreshing! The salad was also great. Those donkey fries are great! My son ordered a burrito o line and didnt get a choice of meat so he was disappointed (pissed really) that he got a sauteed veggie burrito lol. But it was tasty. Food descriptions sounded great. Pictures looked good. My burrito was absolutely flavourless, had to make sure I didn't have covid so I tried the salsa, which was actually pretty good. Ordered two tacos, only got one. The meat was very hard and also needed seasoning. That one star is strictly for the salsa.
