Hilarious. Definitely worth the price and time. Very raunchy,so if you don't like "adult" jokes don't go, maybe try a kids show somewhere. The cast is great and it's just as chaotic as anyone might hope it to be. They auction off the "king and queen" seats before the show if they weren't bought outright. I got the two seats for $70. It includes a small bit of caviar, some chocolates, and a whole bottle of bubbly and front row throne seats. We also got to ring a bell two times during the show to force the cast members to break and drink more, which was quite empowering. We got to play a small part in the show which was quite fun. At the end, we got some pictures and the drunk actor drew a picture of us that we are going to proudly frame and hang on the wall. The cast was great, the show was funny and interactive, and it was a great way to spend our Saturday night. We just found out they're going to play shows back home where we're from and will definitely be checking them out there too! tl;dr - If you're looking for fun, affordable immersive theater with raunchy jokes, plenty of pop culture references, and drunken improv (and don't mind watered down cocktails or pregaming ahead of the show), go see Drunk Shakespeare. You won't be disappointed! Arrived early to purchase tickets before the show. They were kind enough to allow us to purchase our tickets through Groupon, even though Groupon had a disclaimer that you must buy your tickets and call to reserve seats at least 24 hour ahead of time. So that was nice. They also upgraded our tickets, so we were right in front! When the theater opened up we walked in and were greeted with a shot and then escorted to our seats.The actors walked around introducing themselves and chatting everyone up before the show kicked off. They were all super friendly and had some killer jokes. The show itself was a lot of fun and very entertaining. There were some lackluster jokes throughout, but overall I remained engaged the entire time. Drinks were average price for the area, however the cocktails weren't very strong, so I watched the show sober... was hoping to watch it while at least a tad buzzed. Me and my friend left 15 mins in. We are very shy and it just wasn't the right vibe for us. The place was very interactive, and we were scared we were going to get called on or called out, so the whole time we were just on edge. So we decided to just leave. This is really only a place if your an outgoing type of person. The actors also are very comfortable with you and touch you. I had a man hold my hand and bring me to my seat, and I have intamcy issues and it just wierded me out. It's just a vibe for a certain type of people. **NSFW** Get ready for an uncensored, raunchy, vulgar, hilarious off-Broadway show. Every night, the show is different and the interaction makes it worthwhile. Interaction was not limited to only those sitting at the side of the stage which was great--they made everyone feel included. At the beginning of the show, they introduced the main actress/actor who would be doing the most drinking for the night. The actress playing Lady Macbeth was the one doing the most drinking the night we went. And boy, did I feel bad. She had at least 6 shots of tequila and this is not including what she had from the show prior to ours--wowza. The cast even picked someone out of the audience to take a shot with her so that the audience would know how serious they were about their alcohol intake. I also loved how intimate the setting was. The theatre was fairly small but that's what made it more fun (to be that close to the actors). I found myself dying from laughter throughout the show. One word - Hilarious! They know how to keep the humor coming and I really liked their creativity with the characters while still being within the Shakespeare plot. Drinks and food are served at the seat - not something you get in other plays. And the crowd is small with the atmosphere very casual - just what you need to have a good time. The actors are very good with engaging with the crowd, so be ready for some screen time (all in good fun) if you are seated in the front row. The actors managed to keep the story flowing without giving a chance to lose track. It is nothing like you probably would expect from a Shakespeare play - absolutely loved it and was in splits most of the time! Soooooooo...I went to see this show thanks to awesome Ruggy at awesomeland Yelp and was excited since it sounded like it would be both hilarious and something different to do in the middle of my work week. Upon entering I bantered a bit with the cast who was hanging out by the stairs of the second floor of Quinn's bar and they seemed cool. As Ingrid S. and I worked our way to the back I was worried that there would be a shortage of seats since all the bar stools were taken and the tables looked taken as well. I asked someone who I thought worked at the bar or with the show (upon writing this review, I now know it was Josh Hyman) if there were any more seats being brought out and he informed me that we could sit at the unoccupied seats at people's tables...okay. Coolbeans, not a problem. We took up a brief residency at a table with 3 nice gals (shoutout to Kelly, Alex and Kimmie!) and all was good in the hood. The guy that I had asked about the seats began to ask everyone to get themselves together since the show was about to begin. He was also pretty funny, lively and great at warming up the crowd. He encouraged us to "oooooh", "ahhhhh" and evoke emotion and laughter but apparently I must be significantly louder than everyone else at a loud, midtown bar because at one point he came over to me and said to "simmer down". Um. Okay. I did as told because I suppose that's what you do when someone asks you somewhat politely to shut up... Then there was a bidding to decide who would get to sit on the bar's thrown, wear crowns, share a bottle of Moet Chandon champagne and engage in theatrical royalty-ness. Figuring that we were there for free and tickets go for $30 I would go for some bidding. I ended up winning with a bid of $60 (which I ABSOLUTELY REGRET AND IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME I WOULD HAVE JUST STAYED IN THE AUDIENCE AND HAD A MUCH BETTER TIME) which was split with Ingrid S. so at that point it was as if we HAD actually purchased tickets, but got the best seat in the house and some fun other things to do and drink. Among our duties were 1.) Getting to change a line using an Ace card they gave us. 2.) Getting to ring a bell twice whenever we felt they were getting to drunk 3.) Something about "Point of Order" and 4.) Whether or not it was "off with an actor's head" which meant they have to take another shot or "we should pardon the fool" which meant they didn't have to take another shot at that time... SO, we became "Queen Stephgrid" and whenever "Queen Stephgrid" was said by the actors, everyone had to yell "Rich Bitches!" (I didn't mind this cuz it was funny and it takes a lot to offend me...though I will totally get to how I was offended during this play). So yeah, since we were both paying to be "Queen Stephgrid" for the night we had to chat amongst ourselves a few times to make sure we were always aligned for bell ringing, "off with heads"ings and everything else I mentioned above. We also chatted about things like, "want more champagne?", "let me fix your crown", "can you pass me a cracker?", etc. Our intention was never to be disruptive, unnecessarily loud, distracting or rude... We were both talking low & ONLY when we needed to - yes, I absolutely acknowledge that my voice carries louder than others (gonna call it the "Columbrican curse") but I was CONSISTENTLY singled out as the show progressed. I've got a sense a humor & I stress that I am not easily offended, but when it gets to a ridiculous point and you've paid $60 to constantly be belittled during the show with the entire audience there and obviously you can't verbally put them in their place, it's VERY frustrating. Their website lists "The King Experience" as being a whooping $500. GOD, I hope they treat the fools that pay that much better than the way I was treated last night. By the time the show was over I just wanted to run out of there. It's a shame because the cast was super talented and the show WAS hilarious, but I really feel that had I just been an audience member my Yelp rating would be around 4.5-5 stars. Btwn Josh singling me out, Lucas Calhoun muttering under his breath something along the lines of "I can't wear the fu*king larger crown" when he came over to get a crown (understood, it was Macbeth) & I offered the larger one of the two since he's a man and I assumed his head would be bigger than mine (which it is, but God forbid it fall off of him - it could actually be humorous) and another cast member, Damiyr Shuford said (and I quote), "Shut up" when I was discussing when to try to use the Ace card - which we ended up not using since we gave up. There is no reason that anyone should spend $60 to be told to shut up and not be able to say anything back...he was probably the one I was least annoyed by since he was the only one I saw do multiple Jameson shots (at least like 6 or 7 by this point) but the crown annoyance was plain disrespectful & Josh was obnoxious. It's hard for me to pass up anything compliments of Yelp because generally they always churn out fantastic events/or immerse myself into something I wasn't aware of and different. Tonight we were going to be cultured. I can appreciate the fine arts. I was an English and Classicist major. Personally, Macbeth is one of my favorites of the Shakespearean collection. We were greeted warmly and told to find seats quickly. Joined in at a table of 3 girls with my best friend. Ordered a beer off the little flyers they have on each table. The short squat little guy, Josh Hyman began to urge on the crowd, giving instructions as to how the show goes, encouraged us to ooo and ahhhh at appropriate moments, and then bounced in front of my friend and told her to simmer down. We shrugged our shoulders and carried on thinking he was just joking and messing with us. An auction for their King/Queen of the event went up. It started at like $5 and Stephy decided to go to town on bidding. She didn't think she would win. Facepalm. Though, between the two of us, it still was only $30 and that was how much the event initially cost anyway. I wasn't gaining. I wasn't losing. And the whole thing sounded kind of fun and cheesy. The King and Queen gets to sit up in front of everyone on a dais, while wearing crowns and drink Moet champagne out of a chalice and Viking Horn. Of course, I naturally claimed my rightful heritage and nabbed that horn. We also were given complimentary crackers w/caviar, a piece of chocolate, and a hand massage. It's kind of ridiculous. But again, just fun and games. Everyone screams "Rich Bitches" every time our conjoined names are mentioned: "STEPHGRID". We get to ring a bell when we thought they were too drunk and vote to either go with 'off with their head' or 'pardon them' from doing another shot. The play was very well thought out. The actors were both funny and were pretty excellent. Especially, considering that some of them were drinking throughout the entire show and I have to give them props for rarely ever blundering. Had some indecent behaviors had not occurred that would later humiliate and embarrass us, I would easily give this between 4 to 5 stars. But I simply can't. Let me explain myself, for a few moments in the show, I leaned to ask, "when is it appropriate for me to ring this bell?", "what do I do with this card again?", "should I use it now?". Rarely actually in fact was my friend ever talking and namely I would like to hold blame to mostly interrupting and whispering with a question. But in no way did I feel it affected the performance in any way shape or form. There were plenty of people whispering throughout the audience and they were not held up on stage for display. The first incident was when Josh asked her to simmer down. It was easily forgotten and we were enjoying the show. My friend got upset again because Lucas Calhoun muttered "I can't wear that fucking crown, it's too big." He didn't bother me though as much as Damiyr Shuford and his puppet. He thought it would be cute to have the puppet make fun of my friend in the show. She was embarrassed. He turns around and tells her 'SHUT UP'. Never once addressing me. Not only did he say that more than once but he asked her to move her legs because she was in the way from where he decided to sit in front of her. From what?! Sitting on the fucking throne? After the show was over and my friend went to the bathroom I asked the Damiyr fellow why he was so rude to my friend. He played it like nothing happened and I said you told her to shut up in the middle of the play. One of the female actresses tried to remedy the moment by explaining that he was in 'role'. It's just a character and to not be offended. I said 'okay. . . .' The guy then laughs and says "No, I wasn't in a role. I think your friend is a bitch." And then he gave the middle finger. Steph comes back from the bathroom and he tries to apologize but by this point I'm just absolutely disgusted. Also, I'm perturbed because she was singled out. Never once did they attack me until I finally spoke up about their behavior. But only her. Why? This was one of the strangest behaviors I've ever seen from a cast in my life. Drunk, sober, it doesn't matter. That's not an excuse for being a dick. It was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. You should be respectful to people that are coming to watch you perform. The Quick: It's just so much fun! Prepare to get tipsy and bond with your new 30 best friends, while you laugh, participate, and do something different. The Details: We had the BEST time at Drunk Shakespeare last night and already bought tickets for another production the group puts on. You walk into this awesome room with walls lined with books and a giant thrones, completely transporting you into part of the skit. They immediately start you with a delicious shot, and from there the booze keeps flowing. It's a little pricey ($40/ bottle of wine) but worth it-- booze makes everything more fun. I suggest a light pregames to set the mood. The actors are talented and hysterical, honestly people you'd want to hang out with. If possible try to sit on the ground level because you participate more in the show and everyone becomes best friends. Be warned though you might be part of some ridiculous shenanigans that might not be great for a first date or for the prude at heart. It's a mix of modern pop culture, shakespeare, and all things ridiculous. It's something different to do in NYC, I highly recommend. The Damage: there is currently a deal on Yelp! I have never seen a show like this before. The whole crowd is maybe a hundred people total in a tiny room with some really talented and funny actors. Don't get dressed up in your theater best, it's not that kind of place. Bought the tickets on a whim from the TKTS booth and totally pleased with the experience. Expect cursing, sexual innuendo, and all the things a few people in the audience look like they weren't expecting. The stink faces during the show were funny. But for someone who basically hates Shakespeare (my wife loves it) this was a great experience. We saw Macbeth, or a facsimile of it of course including actors dancing like Michael Jackson's Beat It. I came here with a few friends on a Thursday night. I did not do any research prior to going and did not know what to expect. As soon as you arrive, you are greeted with a shot glass. The seating is first come first serve. The venue itself is pretty small so if you arrive late your seats would not be too bad. A full house consists of 35-40 people. Each night the actors act a different play. The night we went they were performing Macbeth. Please keep in mind that the humor is very crude and raunchy. It was pretty much a bunch of actors in a room saying silly things to get a reaction. If you are expecting this play to have cleverness and wit mixed into their comedic lines. This is not it. To wrap this up, I would not recommend this play. The jokes seemed very forced, mixed drinks were very weak, and I personally think it is priced too high. My friends and I climbed the stairs last night to the cozy second floor of Quinn's bar on 44th street, not quite sure what to expect beyond booze and the bard. As was pointed out, we had gathered on the day Mexicans celebrate a victory over the French, in an Irish bar to enjoy a play about a Scottish noble written by an Englishmen. Yes, the Play, or as those who flaunt luck call it, MacBeth. Performed with dignity, vodka and the occasional latin accent. The Drunk Shakespeare Society is a troupe of young actors with a firm grasp of the the bard's work as well as some serious improvisational skills. During a "meeting" of the society, one member of the cast is designated the drunk actor, and begins the evening drinking several shots, including one with an audience member to "verify" the alcoholic content. Throughout the performance, the drunk actor may be called upon to take another shot. The drunk actor has the power to stop the performance at any point to bring up a "drunk point of order." Last night, the drunk actor was Christina Liu, who introduced such twists as turning a scene between MacBeth and Banquo into a homo-erotic latin soap opera: A challenge accepted and hysterically performed by Lucas Calhoun and Whit Leyenberger. Audience participation? Naturally. The actors work the audience before the show, and things they learn, such as names and hometowns, are seamlessly worked into the performance. In addition, the show cannot go on without a Royal Patron... a King or Queen... and that position can be had ahead of time, or as was the case last night, put up for auction. As it was announced, I knew that I would have to win the auction. Money well spent! Through out the night, references to "King" Michael in the performance were followed by a rousing cry of "Ole, Quesadilla". It's good to be King. The perks include bringing a royal guest to sit upon the royal throne, a bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne, caviar, chocolate... and a royal bell that can be rung twice to interrupt the proceedings and initiate a "drunk actor challenge." My apologies to Christina, but I rang that bell with gusto. Tickets are $29 and can be purchased on the troupe's website (http://www.drunkshakespeare.com/contact). I've seen a lot of shows in the last six months... some of Broadway's best for certain. So my wife is well-versed in Shakespeare, while I am a philistine and shun most performance art created before the Netflix era. The closest I usually get to enjoying Shakespeare is watching movies based on his work like 10 Things I Hate About You or She's the Man (seriously - it's a terrific movie). Thankfully Drunk Shakespeare was wonderful and really enjoyable for both of us! The actors had a mastery of Shakespeare that will entertain any Shakespeare aficionado, but incorporated a solid mix of improv, voluntary audience interaction, and modern culture (I loved when they broke into a choreographed dance to a Michael Jackson song). I was surprised by how intimate the venue is (check out the Yelp photos!) - it was comfortable to sit in and really creates a nice feeling of camaraderie with other audience members and the actors. I think people who enjoy drinking will especially enjoy the atmosphere and flowing drinks, and teetotalers such as myself will still feel included and entertained. The night I was there the performance was based on MacBeth, and Caitlin Morris was the designated drinker/actor - and she gave an outstanding performance! Oh - I also bought tickets for the wrong night and showed up without realizing that. I was mortified I got the dates wrong, but the people working the door simply let me switch nights at no extra cost when they didn't have to - that was greatly appreciated. Get ready for a crazy time! Drunk Shakespeare is Shakespeare with one actor severely handicapped- he or she gets trashed in front of you. The show starts with someone taking 4-5 shots. Then that actor blows your mind by reciting a randomly picked act from Henry IV. What emotion and prose! Highly entertaining, hilarious improv style Shakespeare. Its as if Robin Williams decided to perform Macbeth for you. You don't even have to know Shakespeare to enjoy the show (But you should). The actors threw in multiple iconic popular culture references such as Independence Day, the Godfather, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Whitney Houston... How, pray tell, how do you work in Whitney Houston to Macbeth and still remember your Shakespearean lines? I don't know, I know I cannot do it but these actors can and I think that's amazing. Many random odd moments, sexual references, and hilarious moments with tons of audience participation made this an awesome production. I just came home from Drunk Shakespeare tonight and it was great! First you get there a little earlier so you get checked in and get your ticket. Then you get in and depending on the ticket, you are either seated up on mezzanine or on the main floor. I was at the mezz and I had a great time. It's pretty much the same space. Being true to its name, everyone gets a shot walking in. Throughout the show, there are many beers given out. The one actor who got "drunk" tonight was Tim. He was Macbeth and did a great job. Everyone knows Shakespeare inside out and that's the only way they can improvise. We got tickets from livingsocial. They also auction off the king and queen seats. I thought that was smart. AWESOME! The minute you walk in, you are greeted with some type of liquid jello shot that tastes like red gummy bears. You have to walk up and around a hoarders type of situation of books and curtains, but once you're in, you feel like you're in a psychedelic Alice in Wonderland book store. Try to grab a seat on the stage because you're going to want to be up in the action. Once you're seated, the actors are walking around and making obscene comments, inappropriately touching everyone, trying to get people to take off their clothing, giving massages and helping themselves to whatever food or drink you may have ordered. If you're not into that sort of thing, then this is so not your place. The show itself is great. I don't know that much about Shakespeare, but the actors make the story easy to follow and super fun. If your lucky (or unlucky, depending on your interest in participation), you may be involved in the story. Some of the guests are asked to shout out lines, sing songs or do random things. There will also be a king & queen (or 2 queens in my case) who will sit in at the throne and be able to shout out orders. This seat is auctioned off and comes with a bottle of bubbly, chocolates and a lot of attention. This place is worth the hype. read more

The actors are great at what they do, and the entertainment begins before the show even starts as they socialize with the audience (and provide many laughs). Thanks Ruggy & Yelp for tickets to this show. My +1 and I have never been to a smaller production off broadway so we were both really glad this was our first to experience together. When we first walked in we were given complimentary shots, cool! The setting for the show was not your typical stage up front and audience. It was stage in the center and the audience surrounds the performance. They have a cool looking bookshelf looking bar in the back where you can open a tab for the duration of the show. Try to sit towards the bar, rather than by the door because you get to see the "king & queen" if you do. If you sit on the ground level you participate more in the show (sometimes not by choice). The actors of the show are hilarious and one of them even played a little prank on my friend! It was great. I especially enjoyed the final scene with the dance in the end. It was surprising, comical, unexpected and absolutely hilarious, but you'll have to see the show yourself to experience the full effect of it. read more

Oh man. This place was fun. Got 2 tickets in the "Mezzanine" from TKTS - the show is nearby Times Square. Take the elevator to be greeted by the host & given your seats. A small shot is available as well - for free! The Mezzanine is really just the 2nd row on the same floor as the "stage" - you can see everything because it happens 5 feet in front of you. I think they mostly do Hamlet, which I enjoyed. Also, the King & Queen (chosen based on the highest bid) rang their bell to stop the show & demanded our drunked Hamlet recite something from another Shakespeare work. Though he had taken 6 shots, he perfectly delivered a monologue from King Lear - they turned the lights off, put him on a spotlight, and everyone was blown away. Expect to be picked on a bit :) Only minus 1 star because the cocktail I ordered was outrageously expensive for the small plastic cup & too watery -it also took 18 minutes. Would return with a Bard fan or someone who enjoys watching others get drunk at work. read more

I got this for my sister as a Christmas present, and we went last week. It was SUCH a fun experience; they try to make the entire atmosphere fun and party-like, hence the fact that we were handed free shots as soon as we entered. The venue is really cool; it's pretty intimate so there are no bad seats. We sat in the "mezzanine" at a table, which I think is better than it would've been sitting on the floor because we had something to put our drinks on and we could see everything better. However, if you're sitting on the floor, they do engage you more for audience participation. They performed Macbeth. All of the actors are freaking HILARIOUS. I was dying when three of them were performing the witches scene because they were so into it and making the funniest faces I've ever seen. Of course one of the actors took a bunch of shots before the show. Several lines of the play are amended to make it funnier and more modern (if you're a snob and can't handle Shakespeare being changed at all, then this isn't your thing) and there are numerous rules proposed by the actors during the performance to change it up. For example, someone was performing a monologue and a fellow actor was yelling out styles to perform it in, such as William Shatner. Everything was so hilarious and engaging. You totally don't have to be a Shakespeare buff to have a great time. I would highly recommend this for a night out if you like drinking, dirty jokes, and laughing your ass off. If sexual jokes and drunken shenanigans are not your thing, don't go to Drunk Shakespeare and also we can never be friends. read more
