We saw Daniel Weingarten Saturday night in this small intimate club on 78th street off Broadway. Typical cramped room small tables and wooden chairs not making for comfortable evening. Servers came around right away and we ordered Berry Seinfeld and the Tracy. Tracy was a rum drink and you tasted the alcohol so no complaints. *** If you check in on Yelp you get a free house shot which was vodka peach schnapps and some juice, also not bad. Ticket prices were reasonable and they have an $18 drink minimum. All drinks are $16 and under so you need to buy at least two. The show itself was very good and the headliner hung out after so we had a photo opportunity and a nice chat. I would definitely go back to see another comedian. read more

I love this venue because it's an intimate setting, so every seat is a great seat and you can see and hear well. The talent that they bring is hilarious. I've seen some of the funniest comedians perform here, most of whom I had never heard of until that night! The drinks are decent and high, but reasonably, priced for a comedy club. I've been to dozens and dozens of shows here over the years. Occasionally the shows run long and very late. At the last one I went to see, the previous show was running behind so we had to wait almost an hour to be let into our show we had tickets for, so we were a little annoyed by that and pretty tired by the end of the show, but the laughs were well worth the wait!! Came here with a friend who knew one of the comedians for a weeknight show. The comedians were pretty good, some better than others of course. I thought the MC was really good at introducing the comics and funny too. The sets were pretty short, about 10 minutes per comic so that was surprising. The reason I gave it lower stars is because of the drink situation. They require an $18 drink minimum. Most places it is just a 2 drink minimum and you can get whatever you want. I understand the need to make money, but if you are already paying to attend the show and then have to spend an extra 18 per person, that can get very expensive. Plus, if you don't want alcohol for whatever reason, you would have to get at least 3 non-alcoholic drinks to reach the minimum, which is a lot of liquid to get through! We saw Ronny Chieng in 2019 a few shows before his Netflix special. Really intimate comedy club! Loved the experience especially since we had special tickets that waived the cover and drink minimums. We went in a weeknight so there was plenty of open seats. Highly recommend dropping by if you're in the area or a comedian you know is performing here. read more

We made reservations online for a comedy show at Stand Up NY. I received a confirmation text saying to meet at a specific location at a specific time. There was no indication at any point on the website or texts that this was a subway comedy show. We were extremely disappointed as we had already paid over $40 for our tickets. A Stand Up NY employee did assure us we would receive a refund and that we were not the first to be misinformed about the show and that this happens a lot. Overall I would be happy to attend a comedy show, one that is properly advertised. Being that we are in a pandemic, the subway is the absolute last place we want to be. I went to Stand Up NY shortly after they reopened and was SHOCKED by their lack of COVID protocol, especially after going to the Comedy Cellar/Olive Tree a few days before. So just to compare....... Comedy Cellar (upstairs at their Olive Tree room) - Tables spread far apart - Glass separations between tables - Comedians behind glass (which didn't hamper performances at all. In fact, it added great material!) Stand Up NY - Tables couldn't have been closer. And because they're small tables with two chairs protruding out from each, I was no more than 18" - 2' from the person next to me. (And to add insult to injury, they have a sign on the table asking you to "try to stay 6' from anyone not in your party", which is impossible when they themselves sit people far closer to you on both sides!) - No glass separation anywhere. Not between tables and, more importantly, not between guests and comedians who are literally shouting at you from a couple of feet away when they moved to the edge of the stage (which many did) - Almost comical in itself (if it wasn't so dangerous) the comedians would wear masks UNTIL they got to the stage for their set. Then they would take them off for their routine. Are you kidding me! For all I know, Covid safety has sunk to a level where protocol like this is technically legal (and I'm sure Stand UP NY will try to insist it is), but that doesn't change the fact that if one of those six comedians are sick, it is a pretty good bet that half of the first row (as they pull down their masks to take a sip of their drink with a chaser of comic droplets) are as well. I've been going to comedy clubs in NY for the past 30 years and, when all is said and done, they're all pretty much the same. Small, cramped rooms (hardly ideal these days) with a mixed bag of good and bad comics. So all things being equal, I urge you to think twice about Stand UP NY until the pandemic is over. It's a rip off what they charge you. 20 or $25 just to walk in. Then the $18 minimum drink charge. $14 for one 3 ounce glass of wine. That is just outrageous. And a service charge! This is yet another NYC tradition for me when visiting. We just dont have comedy clubs like this in NOLA. I love going to a good comedy club, especially in the city because you never know who you'll see or what drop-in comedian may show up. Great thing is, this is NYC and everyone who's anyone is here and grinding like crazy. Expect to pay at least a $20 cover with a two drink minimum/ $20 drink minimum. Not that I have an issue spending at least $40 for an outing, I just don't like to be backed into a corner to do it. It's too pushy, but I understand. Trust me, you won't feel gipped, the service is great and I always laugh up a six pack each time I visit. It's a very intimate space but there are plenty of tables sprawled about. You should have no issue coming here with a large group, I'd suggest checking the website before tho because if it's a pretty decent act, don't expect to stroll up 10 minutes before the show starts and get a seat. I've yet to try the food here but I will be back in NYC in Sept. so it's obvious I'll be making my way here. The thing that amazed me the most was that my partner had tickets from 5 years ago and we were still able to use it! The tickets have just been hanging over his head this whole time, and while he had intentions of using them, he just never did. So I rang them up to reserve seats for a Friday night, and the tickets still worked! They never expire! It is a rather small place. There's a bar at the very front and then a separate room at the back for the comedy shows. The comedy room is also a small-ish place, but there was more than enough room for the Friday evening group of audiences. They do have an $18 drink minimum, but it's not hard getting there considering the cocktail prices ($15). A not-so-cool thing is the bathroom situation. I don't remember the bathroom door signs being (accurately) labeled and the bathrooms aren't at the same area. There are 2 unisex bathrooms (towards the front of this really long and creepy stairs/hallway thing), another bathroom behind a block of concrete and an employees' room, and then another room (next to a small, dark, and sketchy room) with 2 urinals. One of the bathrooms were out of service and because the one behind the block of concrete isn't noticeable, there was a massive line forming for the ONE bathroom available. There was a host and 5 comedians for the show we were at and only half of them were decent. The other half joked about ONE topic for way too long (even though the joke died out minutes ago). I can't say how the other comedians are, but the ones for our show were only alright. You really just have to take a chance and decide whether or not you think the show will be worth it. This place is a ripoff that relies on traffic from Groupon and other event sites. I found out about the event from Fever, where we paid $15 on Fever for two people, and Fever also said there would be a complimentary drink per person. We then show up, are informed that there is an $18 drink per person minimum (the app only mentioned 2 drinks, not $18 worth of overpriced drinks), the credit card reader doesn't work but of course they conveniently have an ATM with fees on the premises, and the free Fever drink only applies to one person, not two. The lack of transparency is unacceptable as Stand Up NY presumably has full control over what is listed on the Fever listing. The other annoying thing is that when we tried to redeem our free drink, we were given two instead of one, and ended up having to pay for an extra drink we did not want. My boyfriend didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but I'm reading from other reviews that this is standard practice at Stand Up NY where they overcharge patrons and rely on their reluctance for confrontation. 1.) Just to warm you up: I was ready to watch some stand up comedy. After reading everyone's reviews it seems as if we were all pitched the same 2 for $20/40 deal. It sounded okay with the idea that you got a complimentary drink. Plus, Yelp gave me a check-in treat for a free shot. Awesome! 2.) What your eyes may see: It's kind of a tight place, not much space. Good to know there's an ATM downstairs near the bathrooms. The entrance and exit ways are separate, can't come in the same way you go out, especially if there is another show coming up. 3.) The comics: A mixed bag. You had some comedians that kept you laughing throughout their set, others were sporadically funny, ad others were just awkwardly and confusingly NOT funny. 4.) I've come to Stand UP NY 4 times, all w/ Groupon deals which make it worth my while! I recently came with a Groupon $49 for four tickets, four drinks, and four tickets to a future show (up to $224 total value). Pros: * Love the comfortable space and decor. You don't feel cramped * Solid drinks and delicious (although pricey) food from Serafina * Really funny comics- my jaws always hurt from laughing so much! I recommend coming Friday/Saturday nights for bigger crowds and talent. I think the 11pm shows are more crowded and raunchy versus the 9pm shows. In total I spent only $26.96 for 2 hours of awesome comedy versus paying almost double if I didn't come with a voucher. My friends and I always have an awesome time, so I don't understand why Stand UP NY has 3 stars- it deserves a 4. read more

Went to a great podcast taping with Mike Love of the Beach Boys. Was offered a free ticket and had an awesome time. They even had a free buffet prior to the show. Staff was very nice as well and tables were very close to the stage so good sight lines. Mike Love was very interesting and personable and told great stories about the Beach Boys. Anyone complaining about drink prices shouldn't be going out in NYC. Its expensive because rents are high as well as taxes, insurance etc. Overall had a great experience and appreciated the complimentary tickets. read more

Went to the 8 p.m. show last night. Don't waste your money coming here - go to West Side Comedy Club which is SOOO much better. Staff here is rude and horrible, comedians were okay at best and seating is so uncomfortable and everyone is on top of one another. Hadn't been here in years and last night was a reminder why we don't come here. We decided to leave early since the comedians were so bad and the staff literally yelled at us to sit back down and wouldn't process our payment so we could leave. I saw a Groupon for Stand Up that I thought was a really good deal. Tickets for two and two shots for $17, which is Great since on their website I saw entry was $20 per person. I decided to go to their Saturday 8pm line up show. It was easy to find, but being in the city of course finding parking took some time. (It's still a little cold at night in April and did not feel like dealing with the trains). Arrived around 7 30pm and showed the man my Groupon , redeemed it, and he sat us right away. The comedy club is small (like most NYC spots) and most table were taken already so we sat at a table along the wall but still had a good view of the stage. Things from here became mediocre. Our waitress came as soon as we were seated and that was the only quick service we received for the rest of the night. We ordered two drinks, mozzarella sticks, and the two shots that were included with the Groupon. Our drinks came right before the show started. Very, very watered-down. The mozzarella sticks took over an hour to come. For what reason, I have no idea because they only give you five. The waitress was very apologetic and gave us two more drinks on the house. Drinks were still watered-down, but I appreciated the gesture. The comedians overall were okay. There was a total of five and not one really stood out to me. Don't even remember their names. (One of the comedians played the best friend in Deadpool) I laughed a few times but I would say dont expect to have tears rolling down your face. My father bought 2 tickets to Stand-Up NY off a guy standing on the corner in Times Square. He then picked up another ticket on site for my cousin. The guy on the corner told us about the $20/2-drink minimum. He did not tell us about the automatic gratuity, but, seriously, if you don't already tip 18%, you probably shouldn't go out and let someone wait on you. I REALLY loved this show. We saw a handful of amatuer/semi-pro comedians, and I laughed SO hard! I feel bad for the opening guy, because he struggled with our group initially. Stand-Up New York is a great place to check out some up and coming comics! It doesn't seem like the staff vets the people who perform as a few performers completely flopped. On the bright side, most performers only get 5-7 minutes of stage time, which means you get to see about 10 people over your stay. We came to a 5 pm showing and there must have been a special since we got a bucket of bud light for only $36. your night ends up ending early (7pm), and you've already dropped $40. But it's definitely a fun thing to do every now and then. Also, food does not count towards the drink minimum... Some others have said it, but I'll reiterate, the jokes can be dirty. And it's not just the performers, but the MC himself starts off with jokes about genitalia, shaving, awkward sexual moments. Hey, I find this funny.... but that's not everyone's taste. Maybe he was trying out new material because he wasn't as funny as he is on HBO. Still, a pleasure to see him in person. Service was pretty bad and that's just wrong when the service charge is an included 18%. We had to flag our server down a couple of times and one of them to remind him that we had ordered a drink. Kudos to the manager who kicked out some girl who was clearly on some drug. It was also funny to see a NY socialite/GILF with the menu of Botox in her face with her strong-jawed boyfriend perhaps 20 years her junior. I've been to a few comedy shows including comedy cellar, caroline's and some big headliners and this was probably the worst I've been to, although not that bad. I went on a date using a dealfind for half off admission and drinks and would say that this place seems to have deals on every deal site, so would strongly discourage ever paying full price (it totally would not be worth it). The comics were a mix of hits and misses, but there were so many that there were enough good ones to keep it entertaining. Is it me, or are women comics just generally not funny? None of the females were particularly good, not sure why that is! The woman that was in between acts had a very harsh sense of humor. She called my friend and I lesbians. Nothing against lesbians, but she saw my annoyance when she called us out. She continued to refer to that probably another 3 or 4 times. She saw I would roll my eyes each time, and even commented on it. She's that bully in the school yard that only gets encouraged the more you give her any attention. She just wasn't funny to me. Literally just left this place feeling like we just got scammed. We came to see andrew shultz and without any warning or notice the show was filled with some comedian making fun of bad yelp reviews - so this is for you, sir. Andrew never showed up, my poor excuse for a drink was 18 dollars, 10 people showed up and our bill was ridiculous even for new york standards. I dont want to say dont go here because thats unfair to the comics that work this place - but I have to say I am just so very disappointed in all the money we spent to come here and just feel like it was a scam.
