I want to thank Comedy Village for a great evening on Nov. 11, 2025. My wife and I had a blast. Everything about the evening show (starting around 9 pm?) was excellent, but there is one thing I want to point out the most -- the extraordinary effort the comedy show host and all the comedians made that night. We made a spontaneous decision to attend the show because we heard someone walking around saying "Comedy show!" I'm not even sure it was someone from Comedy Village as we didn't get a good look at him in the crowded street, but we were looking for something to do next as we were wandering around aimlessly after watching a Broadway play ("Art" if you haven't seen it, is a must-see.) A comedy show sounded like a great idea as that's one of our favorite things to do when we're vacationing in other towns. Comedians can easily do a great job on nights when everything is going well -- the crowd is big, there's high-energy in the audience, etc. But you really learn about comedians' commitment to their craft when, for example, it's a federal holiday, and it's an unusually quiet night by NY standards, and it's cold and bitter outside. We were part of a tiny crowd that night and wouldn't have blamed the performers for phoning it in. But they didn't. The host was outstanding, and his energy set the stage and the tone for the night. He and the other comedians willed the audience to a great show. I was way more impressed by them under those circumstances than I would have been at a packed house on a more pleasant evening. Job well done! On top of that, the food was surprisingly good. Food typically isn't much to write home about at a comedy club, but everything we ordered came out hot and delicious. As a bit of a chicken wing snob myself, I also give two buffalo-sauce-drenched thumbs up to the wings. Last but not least, the service was excellent, too. Service at most restaurants today is, well, not great. But the service here walked that perfect balance between checking on us enough to make sure we had what we needed without being annoying. We're going to start heading up to New York much more often, and we'll absolutely return to Comedy Village!

I went to the comedy village on a Wednesday night with my friends as a little get together/reunion. It was a two drink minimum after you gotten per person. The comics were slow at the beginning, but slowly starting to get better overtime. Overall, an average experience, no comic really stood out and made me spit my drink.

**"Laughter Therapy Gone Wild"** Tonight, I walked into Comedy Village expecting some chuckles and a few groan-worthy dad jokes. What I got instead was a whirlwind of hilarity that felt like a mix between a stand-up show and group therapy where everyone's drunk uncle is the therapist. The comedians were brilliant, delivering punchlines so sharp they practically cut through my overpriced old fashion. One comic joked about relationships in a way that made me laugh so hard, I snorted beer out of my nose (note: it burns). The headliner? Absolute gold. By the time they wrapped up, I felt like I needed a cigarette and a confessional. That said, don't come here if you're easily offended or can't handle jokes about bodily functions, questionable life choices, or what happens when you mix tequila with regret. I heard things that would make my grandmother clutch her pearls--and then laugh anyway. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys unfiltered humor, dim lighting, and a lingering sense of "Did they really just say that?" Skip it if you're looking for polite chuckles or can't handle the occasional F-bomb (or F-story). 10/10 will bring my sister in law to be next time--she needs a good scandal!

I reserved a spot online to avoid the hassle of not making the cut at the standby line. As a party of 1, I sat with another party of 1 and she was there to see Usama Siddiquee as well. What a coincidence! 2 item minimum and phones are put in a puffy mailer bag that you have on you until the rest of the show. Their beef yakitori skewers were juicy and tender! My cucumber gin drink was refreshing and not too strong. Each comedian that went up did such a great job with various styles of humor and experiences to share. I wasn't expecting a drop in but Marcello Hernandez from SNL went up and did some new material. God.. I love good surprises. Usama closed out the night strong and I was incredibly pleased with the show. Not gonna lie.. it was kismet that I got to shake their hands after their sets since my table was by the exit door. Def an evening I'll never forget!

Founded back in 1982 in a basement on MacDougal Street, and it's stayed almost exactly what it's always been: low ceilings, brick walls, candlelit tables packed close enough together that you're basically eavesdropping on the next table over whether you want to or not. Godfrey is a regular here, and he never fails to make me split my sides. He's been holding down rooms at this club for the better part of three decades at this point, and it shows every single time. Then there's the actual reason people fly in from out of town for this place: the surprise drop-ins. I got lucky and caught Kevin Hart doing a full 45-minute set for my friends visiting from out of town, completely unannounced. That's the magic of this room. Chappelle, Chris Rock, Seinfeld, half the biggest names in comedy have all quietly walked through that door to work out new material in front of a crowd that has no idea who's about to walk on stage next. Food and drinks are great, though pricey. Doesn't matter. You're paying for the room and the possibility of a night like that, and I'd happily pay triple just for the ticket alone with no food or drink involved. Only real knock: the door guys aren't especially friendly, and if you land on their bad side, they will kick you out, so tread carefully there. You also lock your phone away in a pouch the second you walk in, which sounds annoying and is actually the best part of the whole system, since it means the room is actually watching the show instead of filming it. Service moves fast and you barely notice them working around you. Just make sure you order everything you'll need up front, once the room gets going, they don't want anyone breaking the flow to flag down a waiter. A true New York institution, and worth every dollar.

The tickets were easy to purchase from online, and I was even able to get a discount code for five dollars off. I came early to check out the place, and found that it looks like they had some improv happening on the stage located on the main floor. They have two stage rooms, one upstairs on the main level and the other downstairs. After looking at the one downstairs I would have personally liked to been seated there because upstairs was hot as the dog days of summer in NYC. The bathrooms were also located down there. The main level just felt a little uncomfortable because of how the chairs and tables were sat up. There was a two drinks minimum you had to purchase and they had appetizers available to support those drinks. I just ordered some fries and a mudslide. The fries were ok, and my drink was really good. My coworkers ordered some mozzarella bites, chicken wings etc. I sampled the mozzarella bites and they were really good, better than my fries. Customer service was good and the food and drinks came out pretty fast. Now as far as the show goes, the comedians they had, they were all pretty funny and so I did laugh enough. My coworker was pretty good too. Now the question is would I return? I would only want to return to this place if the show is downstairs. So I'm not sure if I can give a thumbs up but I can say I had a good time. Happy Yelping!

He promised some pretty famous comedians, one from SNL and a voice actor from Family Guy. When we arrived, we found out that there was a 2 drink minimum. We had our 12 year old with us, he wasn't buying 2 drinks! Of course, Tony didn't tell us there'd be a 2 drink minimum, but that would have been ok if the comedians he had told us were there were actually there. They weren't. These were totally unknown comedians and we were going to need to spend another $20+ each to stay to watch some comedians that were obviously signed on to work in this sketchy theater. Even our 12 year old would need to buy a drink! To add to the bad experience, the place looked like trash and was basically in the basement with metal folding chairs. We left, went to look for Tony who had apparently vanished faster than the comedians he promised us. If Tony put half as much effort into honesty as he does into his sales pitch, he'd probably have an actual career. Dear Broadway Comedy Club: Don't bother following up to this message telling people that "Tony" was an independent contractor and it's not the theaters fault. We know that you sent them out with tickets to try to get people into your show so you can make more money off the drinks.

But recently I kept seeing good comedy clips of Comedy Cellar on YT so decided what the hell, why not give it a try? Pro tips: - it is worth it. cover charge is not bad, you basically get to see 5-6 comedians. some nights are $25, but it was Sunday, so was $18. plus 2 drinks, so not an expensive night out. - definitely get a reservation. don't be those 20 people sadly standing in the standby section on the sidewalk, hoping to get an open spot. between the 3 jointly-owned clubs (incl Comedy Cellar & Fat Black Pussycat), they probably do 15 2-hour shows a night. You can always grab a resv for tomm, if tonight is full. - expect organization/chaos. they sort of have this down to a science. they line up the 200 people on the street out front, check ids, assign your table, get your phones into bags, etc. but once inside the system can break down a tad and long waits for drink service and your bill at the end, so be patient. - you will be forced to put your phone on silent and placed into a sealed pouch for the show. no exceptions. literally, your table # is written on the outside of the pouch. - be sure to check-in the minute you arrive, to get your pouch and then get in line (there is no one telling you this) - overall it's a fun time. comedians are talented, it's one of the best places in the country to see comedy and quite a NY experience.

There's a referee who reminded me of Joel McHale from The Soup but he wasn't funny at all. He was trying too hard and spent a lot of time wasting our time by repeating things that did not need repeating. The games they play have potential but the performers just failed. They weren't funny at all. Repetitive jokes and childish humor. Not impressed. The atmosphere- place was half empty so lacked energy. The style- lame and childish. No profanity, nothing that's not rated G allowed, from performers or audience members. They remind you several times from beginning to end. Actually they threaten to put a paper bag over your head for the remainder of the show if anyone says or does anything slightly indecent. I feel like this is extremely unnecessary and boring. I felt like I was at a child's birthday party. The venue- simple. too simple. They have a small bar with drinks. Small amount of seats, maybe 40 max? One-room bathroom.
