I had quite a negative experience here at the beginning of my first visit. I sat there in the middle of the salon for over 20 minutes without anyone asking me if I needed anything or has anyone assisted me yet. Well, finally...i just got up and asked if my stylist was there and they said she was running a bit late. That's fine, but i wish someone would've at-least greeted me during the 20-25 minutes that i sat there after walking in. The stylist was good. Good enough for me to return for another visit. However, the other reason for the 1 star review is...I totally have tried to revisit, but they NEVER answer the phone. That is unacceptable and awful customer service. read more

I've been a repeat customer for years, but the service has dropped so low that I can't ever recommend them. I have had three separate appointments stealth cancelled in the last two months. There is never any explanation and the cancellation always occurs the day of. The staff is rude when you call and there is no flexibility to remedy the issue. They are so completely unreliable that I cannot ever recommend them. I've been blessed with thick, long and curly head of hair. There are few stylist that can handle the task of taming and making this overwhelming amount of hair behave and look fabulous. The Dry Bar and all her stylist are more than up for the task. First, they give me a relaxing shampoo, conditioning and scalp rub. Next, they detangle my really long and thick mane. Followed by blow drying it dry. Finally, they use the curly iron to give me completely smooth hair with a slight loose curls at the ends. I've been using Dry Bar for special occasions, and vacation hair for many years. As an Afro-Latina, I trust in Dry Bar to help me kick my hair style a few notches. All of their stylist are extremely capable, I've only meet one in five years who wasn't up for the challenge. Also, when it rains they have free umbrella they give you to protect your hair. In super glad that I didnt read the reviews for this location prior to going to Drybar because I probably would have avoided this location for sure. I was already a little worried that I wouldn't be able to get my hair styled here to the perfection I expected for fear there wouldn't be stylist that could do African American hair. I even called an booked my appointment over the phone to ensure it was noted that I had "ethnic hair" as the lady categorized it over the phone. She was very accommodating which made me comfortable that it would be cool. On the day of my appointment, I arrived a few minutes early. I had cornrows in my hair. So they first took me into the back and asked me to remove me. After about 15 minutes or so I was escorted to the back shampoo bar area. The place was very clean and professional. The stylist that helped me (Asia) also happened to be the manager. She did a great job washing my hair and even was ok with using my own hair conditioning treatment I had brought from home. I didnt feel like she was trying to pressure me into getting a bunch of extra treatments. Best of all, she did an amazing job blowing out my hair. Low key it might have been straighter than what my stylist for 12+ yrs has done. (Dont tell her that though! Ha!) I had zero complaints about my hair to be honest. She took her time and did a great job. I will absolutely be coming back to dry bar in between my hair appointments with my stylist when I just need a quick blow out. For $49 you cant beat. Now if you are expecting a luxury experience here as well, I'll be honest that you arent going to get that at this price point. But it's cute, trendy and gets the job done. This was my first experience with a blow out. Sure I get them when I get my hair down at the salon, but not like this. When you arrive it's a hip environment, but the music is extremely loud. Apparently after mentioning it to my stylist it's supposed to resemble a "bar" atmosphere. Hence the name, drybar. (See what they did there?) I arrived right at 10:15 am, my appointment time, but I was not started until 10:45. There was no communication about running behind or an anticipated time that I would be started. This is the sole reason for taking away 2 stars. It was very frustrating to wait 30 mins and not have any idea when I would get started. I had an appointment after my blowout that I ended up missing because of the 30 mins delay. My recommendation to drybar is to notify your waiting customers on approximate wait. There were many annoyed looking people waiting. Now for the blowout. Paula did a great job asking for my preferences and taking care of me. She had a good touch and wasn't too rough with my hair. As you can see by my pictures, my blowout lasted all night and even into the next day without any touch ups. The customer service at this location is HORRIBLE. I love DryBar and have had the best, best experience in Georgetown and all other locations. I went in for a dry styling appointment and I had washed my hair 7 hours prior. No parts were wet to touch. Not only did Celine and her team cancel my appointment without another solution in the store, they were EXTREMELY rude and showed no customer service. I even offered to use a blow dryer on my self to prove it was not wet. I explained that I was relying on this because I had a family service and they showed zero compassion or respect. Drybar has great customer service. I was offered a re-do free of charge, so I took up the offer. I even took a gamble and tried the same location... Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. I had a very short wait time again (5 minutes). My shampoo was pretty short, but they have many clients they're trying to get in and out, so I wasn't too bothered. My stylist was Kendra. She's amazing! I think I chose the cosmo hair style and it was fabulous. AND MY SCALP WAS NEVER BURNED. I definitely felt the difference between the two stylists I had and I'm so happy I gave Drybar another try. I also was in and out in an hour... I've never experienced that in my life! I'll be back soon and hopefully Kendra will still be there :). read more

The blowouts here are very convenient. You call in, make an appointment, and relax and enjoy your new hair. There is no need to go through a private hair dresser. It's awesome, and right after a blowout you can walk next door to grab a cupcake from Georgetown cupcake (you literally kill two birds with one stone! How perfect is that??) The service is also awesome. The hair dressers are friendly and upbeat. They are very professional while keeping the experience personable and relaxing. The decor is chic and classy. The only problem I see with this place is that they use way too much hair product. Like way too much... I have silky thick hair and I know my hair requires more product than most people. However, it's just way too much hair product for my taste. In addition, they apply hours of high heat and massive amounts of hair product (it's just not a good combination) Every time I leave this hair salon, I feel like my hair has more split ends. A part of me feels like they use so much hair product so as they can sell their hair product brand. Overall, I would recommend for any hair emergencies and blowout needs. I thought I was was getting a wonderful promotion of buy 2 get 1. I went to both visits as I traveled over an hour was checked out and never received the promotion. I called to find out why or how is this possible and they tell me the second service is still open. I found that impossible as my card was charged. I know they wouldn't let me out the shop without paying for my blowout. At the time of checkout they even tried to over charge me for an add on service I wasn't even aware of. I booked a blowout with a scalp massage thinking I'd be leaving the Dry Bar relaxed and feeling like a million bucks for a black tie event I had on Saturday evening. Instead: 1. My appointment started 20 minutes late, with no one giving me a heads up that there would be a delay, getting me a glass of water, letting me know where I could sit while I waited. The salon was kind of a mob scene. 2. The scalp massage I had been so looking forward to didn't happen. When I asked about it as she was finishing the wash and wrapping my hair up in a towel, she checked my card and told me it wasn't listed. When the stylist next to her helpfully suggested she add it in, she told her she didn't know how and seemed quite put out by the suggestion. At that point, I had no confidence in her skills and we were already running late... 3. Which leads a very unimpressive blowout and "styling" with plenty of damage to my hair. I should have spoken up when she didn't bother to ask me what I even wanted before she picked up the hair dryer. But not having experience with Dry Bar, I figured maybe the process was to dry the hair and THEN ask how I wanted it styled. Instead, there was no consultation--to the point where she didn't even part my hair in the right place. I don't know if she turned up the iron too high or what but there was also a lot of breakage resulting in crazy pieces sticking up all over my head. When I checked out, I told the woman behind the computer what happened. She seemed surprised that there hadn't been a consultation but also didn't seem overly concerned about my bad experience. I asked her to have a manager follow up with me, which has not happened yet. I get that not all stylists will be A+ every single time. Everyone has an off day.. But the person you have checking people in and out should be outstanding at customer service and ready to do whatever it takes so that people don't end up leaving with a bad taste in their mouth from dropping $60. Honestly, I looked better before I walked into Dry Bar. It was a terrible experience. I paid the bill and tipped 20% because I understand that is someone's livelihood. This plays continues to FAIL. What does an 8 am appointment mean? I thought it meant that I am seen at 8 am. Not this place. It means they unlock doors as employees trickle in. Not seen for more than 40 minutes. Also It is beyond me why you ask customers if they can have something to drink and then NOT bring it. This has happen about half the times I am here. I have never in my life been so confused as to how a place stays in business. I don't even know where to start with the multitude of ways in which they screwed up my blowout. 1) As many other reviews note, they overbook time slots so there is a huge wait for your appointment. Mine was at 10 am, I didn't get taken back to get my hair washed until 10:35 am. That was actually not considered a long wait for this place, as I later found out. My stylist told me that a wait time of up to 2 hours (not for walk-ins, but actual scheduled appointments...) was typical for a Saturday. She didn't seem bothered by the long waits, in fact, she seemed to think it was strange that customers expected to be in a chair at their scheduled appointment time. I don't know what world she's living in, honestly. She told me a client cried when she came in and was told that no one was available and they couldn't take her appointment. This story was told as if this poor woman was crazy for expecting her appointment to be honored by Drybar! What???? 2) My stylist did a crappy job washing my hair. I could feel she wasn't getting down to the roots, especially in the back. Inexplicably, she was also super rough and tugging on my hair. I didn't realize until today that it was possible to be too vigorous AND completely ineffective at the same time. My hair is sort of half-washed and greasy in the back 2 hours after leaving the bar...I do have an oily scalp but I can always go a minimum of 24 hours without seeing grease in my hair when it's been washed properly. 3) My stylist took an hour and a half (!!!!!) to blow dry and curl my hair. She was so slow it was like watching paint dry. When I do it myself at home, it takes me about 10-15 mins to blow dry and 20 minutes to curl my hair. She didn't seem to know how to use a round brush, which absolutely blew me away since that's like...the single main tool of her trade. She also had trouble with the bobby pins, it was unreal to watch. I don't know who trained her, I don't know how they thought she was ready to take on clients, but girl...come on. 4) In addition to taking absolute EONS to finish the job, my stylist used no hair spray while she was curling my hair. She didn't know how to style the 'old Hollywood' look that I requested, so she pulled her manager in to finish me up after she had finally finished the curls. The manager started taking the curls out but I warned her about the lack of hairspray first, and she sprayed some over top. She took the curls out, ran her fingers through them, and declared the job finished. When I first left, my hair looked good, but I could tell that it wouldn't last. Not even 20 mins later, it was flat and curls were totally gone. Like I mentioned earlier, I curl my own hair at home. Normally it lasts at least through the night, sometimes even a full next day--it's not like my hair can't hold a curl. I will note that other stylists seemed to be much more appropriately trained and talented than mine, there were a lot of cute curls and up-dos in the bar. I guess I just got saddled with the dud. The manager and my stylist were both nice, polite, and accommodating, it's just a shame that they didn't do the one thing I actually needed--give me a great hairdo for the wedding I'm attending this evening. In summary, I spent 2 hours and $45+tip to get...absolutely nothing. My hair isn't even really clean, let alone blown out. I'm genuinely baffled at how they have stayed in business, I'm even shocked that there are enough repeat customers to warrant the long wait times and missed appointments. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, unfortunately, my natural hair proved too much for my stylist to handle. Lasted less than an hour before my hair looked like the attached pictures. U usually go to dominicans every 3 months or so who have hair laid for a whole week, but after recent heat damage, was looking for an alternative. Unfortunately, this isn't it. I saw a gorgeous picture from another yelper with natural hair which made me decide to book this appointment, but my stylist didn't sound enthused about trying to replicate what i believed was the "southern girl" style from their look book (which i thought most closely mirrored the yelpers look). I didn't want to make it more complicated, so gave him free range to do what he suggested, cause the most important thing i wanted was manageable hair. i use a lot of product on my hair and don't think all the product was washed out which may have been partly to blame. I would consider trying once more with another stylist before writing them off fully cause i really want to like the place. read more

I went to DryBar before getting on my flight home for Christmas. I had a somewhat early appointment and kept my hair up and in a topknot before reaching the place. When I got there, I was unsure of the checkin process and when I didn't understand and asked a question, I was rudely greeted with a "You've already been checked in". I sit down and wait another 15 minutes (if you're keeping track of time, I have now been waiting an additional 20 minutes after my appointment time). I understand it's busy, but I had an appointment for a reason. I even got my chair moved because a little girl wanted to sit in the chair up front. Oh, okay, that's cool. Anyway, I tell my stylist that I have a lot of hair. She says she can handle it... until she takes it down from my bun. This review is not to say anything poorly about my stylist--she was a little cold at first, but she was very sweet. I just didn't appreciate how she complained how tired she was at least 5 times during my TWO HOUR APPOINTMENT. The style looked kind of ridiculous in the end. My hair is very long (waist length) and very, very thick. The curl lasted as long as the barrel was on my hair. The barrel used was a little too small for my long, thick hair and the direction of the curl was all over the place. At the end, my stylist said that my curl would never hold and that I had too much hair. If I was told this in the beginning, I wouldn't have wasted my money on the blow dry. I ended up leaving with my hair in pins so it would stay. It didn't. When I left the appointment, it was like they were more excited for the store to close as they were cleaning out brushes and wiping down counters around the customers. There were also a lot of complaints about being there on Xmas Eve. I'm sorry, but I also worked that day but took time off to get my hair done. I should have stayed in the office. I am disappointed that I wasted $40 for the blow dry and the additional $10 I left for tip. It was not the wonderful, glamorous experience as is described on the website. My hair was left limp and FULL of product. I was almost embarrassed to show off the curls I had put in because they looked like wet crepe paper after a birthday party was rained out. I wouldn't recommend this place if you hair is long and/or thick. I only tipped because it was Christmas. Not sure what was going on but when I came back to the shampoo room she looked at me and said "I was looking for you". Uh were we playing hide and go seek. I had a date in an hour and you proceeded to get water all over my face and tshirt. Saturating the back of my shirt. Fine. I'm more annoyed about my eyeliner that I just applied now leaving a streak. She proceeded to use the towel from around my neck to dab my face. Okay stop. What the hell. Okay so I sit back in her chair. I'm not a skinny girl and she kept trying to raise the chair so she could make me taller. she asked me to GET UP SO SHE COULD ADJUST MY CHAIR. is this a joke. Are you saying you can't do it because I'm too fat. This has never been an issue. She then proceeded to carefully part my hair in sections which alone took 35 minutes. Just blow it out. Please. While blowing my hair out twice she asked if I was ready for the next chapter in my life. I stupidly told her about what was going on. While blowing out my hair she kept brushing my ear. I eventually had to take off my glasses and earrings so she could do my hair. Twice she dropped the brush she was using while doing my hair and didn't pick the brush up but kicked it to the side. Wish I could give them no stars! I've brought my daughter to drybar several times but this was my first time at this location. I made a same day appointment for 12:30. Someone texted me a few minutes after I made the appointment saying they were running behind and asked that I come at 12:45 instead. I agreed. I get stuck in traffic and end up 10 minutes late. I get there and the lady rudely tells me they can't accommodate me at all anymore. I ask what the grace period is and she says it's technically 15 minutes but it's up to the salon whether they honor it or not. She then tells me they can reschedule me until 2pm or charge my card for my missed appointment even though I'm standing right there wanting to be serviced. LMAO. Skip this location. Happy early birthday to me! When DCist wrote that Drybar was coming to Bethesda, I called and booked a party - before they even opened or built out the space! Short story: would give them a 3.5 star rating if i could because it was fun girls only party setting, everyone loved the concept of styling-only salon, awesome location but wide (think trans-continental wide) range of experience on hair results (gorgeous, flatlining, singed!) Full story: The event planning staff was great. I worked with Kelsey Pruitt and talk about customer service! I chose to do two group bookings of 6 (first wave at 10 am, another wave at 10:45) instead of booking to whole salon ($1200/hr). I dropped in during their test run week, was offered a tour of the space & got to talk about my party and how my group would be accommodated. Sounded perfect! Slap me surprised, though, when I arrive first and greet the receptionist with Hi! I'm here for my party and the first words out of his mouth aren't "welcome. Glad to have your group of 12 girls here!" but "ok. I have seats for you but I don't think they'll all be together" I told him we were promised we'd be seated together for each group of 6 and he said that he _was_ saving us the seats together but then these other people came in and he had to seat them so... I said straight up "that is not my problem." I sent my event planner at Drybar an email and she said she'd check in with the manager. That must have worked because then everyone was smiles and the whole staff was courteous and attentive the rest of the time we were there. Even the receptionist who threw 'tude to start. Back to the "two waves of 6 seating" arrangement: only works in theory. In reality, it was 1 slow wave of 12 where stylists, as they became free, came to claim us 1 at a time. The entire salon only has 14 seats so with a group of 12, we slowly took over all the chairs and by default, got to sit together. The 12 ladies consisted of all different hair types (long, short, layer, thick, thin, straight, curly, colored, banged) so we really tested what Bethesda Drybar stylists could do. Results: * My sisters had great results! One has thick layered hair & the other short hair with bangs * One friend had a great end result but definitely got scorched on the scalp by the blowdryer's concentrator to get there. Lots of tensing & wincing :\ * Two asked for "southern comfort" but got nothing like the model in the "look book." Still looked cute (big loose curls) & overall volume but not the right height in the crown for "southern comfort." What ever happened "the higher the hair, the closer to God"? They liked enough though so didn't ask for changes. * Friend with tight curls got a stellar blow out. You'd have thought she was born with that bone straight hair! I was hoping for the "cosmo-tai" but ended up with something more "off menu." As party host, I was given a free floater scalp massage & if not for the fun music, I could have fallen asleep! And not just because I'm a new mom with a 5-mo at home. Forget the blow out, I'd pay just to get my hair massaged and washed! That got me pretty amped for my styling. I figured if my stylist was this good at just a scalp massage, her magic touch would flow into my curls! But... Because I'm a new mom, I'm suffering from some post partum hair loss. I got some long straight bangs to cover up how thinned out my hair's gotten at my hairline. The stylist sympathized saying she'd experienced it with both her kids. I thought, hallelujah! She gets me! She did not get me... At first, some product (volumizer?) on my roots. Great start! Round brushed some curls, cool shot with unravel: excellent technique to make lasting curls! Spornette Little Wonder & teasing. Volume! Yay! But then she spun me around. No no, I say, that isn't right, pigs go oink all day and night... Oops, that's from a Sandra Boynton book. No no, I need my bangs down... To cover the balding spots up front! It took 2 more spins and some discreet direction from the manager Megan (like a good captain, she was very present throughout our time there) to get good bangs & something more cosmo-tai like. But when she flatironed my bangs, I felt, heard & smelt the sizzle! After 2+ hrs there were lots of "you look great"s, smiling for cameras and Facebooking. It wasn't until I went to the bathroom at brunch that I noticed that the under layer of my bangs got fried (see pic!). The top layer covered it but wow. You kind of expect the stylist to know better! And surely she got a good look at how she burnt it. Did she think if she didn't mention it I wouldn't notice? Oh well. Despite the range in how the hair styles were each executed, my girlfriends and I still had a fun time. My stylists are awesome at Drybar Bethesda. However The management is failing when It comes down to monitoring and coordinating the online appointment book and the call in appointments. Their calendar is OVERBOOKED and there are NOT enough stylists to service everyone. Clients were told that eventhey would NOT be able to have their scheduled appointment. As I said the stylists are great but they're over worked with this unmanageable scheduling. All I can say is that clients should go in and prepare for the unexpected. I waited 25 minutes for my appointment and barely got in while other ladies with appointments were turned away because there were only 3-4 stylists working. Very sad read more

Waited 35 minutes for my appointment after arriving 10 minutes early. Eventually had to leave without the service I had booked because I had planned the appointment to fit my schedule, not the other way around, and I had to get to a work event. I was not the first person to leave without service. The front desk staff were exceedingly rude and unprofessional. They actually mocked a woman who left prior to me after waiting over an hour with no help. There were several teens waiting to get their hair done for prom who had been waiting much longer and didn't feel empowered to say anything. Music was on so loud that you couldn't hear stylists when they called the names of the next client--just crazy disorganized. I never give one star reviews, but this place was truly a hot mess. I knew it was going to be a great experience when I walked into DryBar and Breakfast at Tiffany's was on! I had my first visit to DryBar this past Saturday. I had two events that day, one being an outdoor picnic and the second being a wedding. Now, my hair typically does not hold curls too well... unless you use an entire can of hairspray so my hair literally won't move but I hate that look as I like it when my hair has a bit of a flow to it instead of a stiff looking wig. My appointment was at 9:00 a.m. and due to a silly police officer, I arrived at 9:10/15. I was worried I would be greeted with an angry receptionist or have to wait a while but I was greeted with a smile and after sitting for about a minute, I was greeted by my stylist, Eunice. After verbalizing the style I wanted, I got my hair washed and then got seated. My hair is a bit difficult but Eunice was great at understanding what I wanted, especially since what I envisioned was a mixture of two different styles in the book, and she made my hair so great. The whole process was so smooth and Eunice made it look so easy. My hair looked fantastic and I was pleased. She blow dried my hair and went back through it with a curling iron to give me the perfect look that I wanted. The best part about it? After being outside for a couple hours and a whole evening of wedding fun, my hair/curls were still completely perfect the next morning that I didn't even bother re-styling my hair. It was my first experience and I was so pleased I'm already trying to find excuses to go and get my next blowout. If you plan on going, request Eunice! She's fabulous. read more

I went to Drybar for a blowout for my baby shower on Saturday 4/6. I was greeted pretty quickly after check in by my stylist, who took me back for a quick but thorough wash. We discussed what I was looking for and she set off on working magic. While watching The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, I stared to feel the lovely pregnancy side effect of feeling very hot and sweaty. I felt as if I were about to pass out and quickly asked for a glass of water to help, which my beautiful stylist immediately grabbed and handed to me. She also dabbed the sweat off my forehead while I recovered. I was deeply embarrassed but so appreciative of how caring my stylist was during this experience. She wrapped up and I enjoyed a gorgeous blowout for 3 days, which also received a ton of compliments at the shower. Thank you for making me feel so cared for! read more

My first experience with Drybar was at the Georgetown location, and I consistently have had GREAT blow outs there. Bethesda is more convenient to me now since I work in the area, but the service is VERY inconsistent. I had gone a handful of times last year, and my last time at this location was the day of their grand "reopening" and I had a very good experience, so I decided to try it again. I made an appointment yesterday and was able to be seen right on time (possibly even a little early). The salon was relatively empty and my stylist expressed to another stylist that since things were slow he would be leaving as soon as he was finished with my service. I requested a mudslide mask, which he did not do and he barely even conditioned my hair with regular conditioner. It became apparent that he was in a rush to leave so my hair was done very hastily. He was not unprofessional or unkind, it was just very clear that he wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. My hair was extremely dry on the ends (because he basically did not even condition it) and when he proceeded to finish styling my very dry and puffy blow out he doused it in hairspray, so that it was a crunchy, dry, and puffy blow out. Fortunately, I was not getting my hair done for a special occasion, because if I had I would have been mortified and at a loss. I'm really disappointed, but there is no way I can return to this location. It's an awful feeling when you pay to get your hair done and it looks bad. read more

I've been here twice, once by myself and once with a friend, and have been happy each time. All our appointments started on time, and we were so happy with the results. Everyone leaving the salon as I came in looked great. There is variation among the stylists, as would be expected. I got the most thorough shampoo of my life (and a great scalp massage) the first time I went, as did my friend, and then the second time I went the wash was kind of lame. The first time I went, I got the straight-up for a family photo shoot, and it was perfect. still looked great the next day and the day after that! and the stylist barely even used hairspray, I have no idea what kind of wizardry kept my hair looking great with such minimal product. The second time I went, I wanted the Cosmo, but didn't love my curls (too tight, combined with a not-so-great haircut that was not their fault), and the stylist worked with me to get to something I loved. The style lasted through the event that night, but looked a mess the next day, which is fine. My friend has pretty thin, limp hair, and we were both excited to see what her stylist was able to do! read more

I am always excited to go to dry bar but my experience this weekend was disappointing. I arrived 10 minutes early for my 2:45 appointment and stood at the desk waiting to be greeted for nearly 10 minutes before the front desk staffer appeared. There were also three women waiting to check out who were waiting for him as well. After I got checked in, I waited about 10 minutes before I asked how much longer it would be - I did have somewhere to be and wanted to ensure I'd have ample time for my blowout. The front desk staffer didn't really give me an answer and said he would just start my shampoo. He took me back and shampooed me and then put me in a chair and said he'd have a stylist right over. I waited another 30 MINUTES before anyone came to get my hair started. I asked many times when someone would be helping me and he always said "someone will be with you soon;" what is most frustrating is I saw the stylist who started my hair tell the front desk staffer she'd be "right back" at 2:45ish and this same stylist walked back in at 3:30 and then started brushing my hair. If this was my original stylist, she was out getting food for 45 minutes and started my appointment late because she just walked out of work. Incredibly disappointing. Fortunately a different stylist jumped in and did my hair and offered to give her colleague (who had just been out for 45 minutes) a break. This woman (IRIS) was fabulous, super sweet, and worked fast. I was happy with my hair but overall the 45 minute wait (nearly 30 of which I had wet hair) makes me frustrated. I'll be going somewhere else in the future so I can have a more reliable appointment experience. read more

Service is inconsistent at best. Sometimes I've been very happy! Other times not so much. I made an appointment last night. They were running behind and, 20 minutes after my appointment time, had a very new employee wash and blow dry my hair. She was so new that she didn't know what the Mudslide product was and another stylist was telling her how to wash my hair. I assumed she was a trainee who was just washing my hair in advance of a blowout from someone else, but no, she also dried my hair. It did not turn out well. Let me say this whole thing was NOT her fault-- Drybar is at fault for putting a brand new employee with a client without proper training. So they told me I could have it re-done and didn't charge me. They booked me for this morning with an experienced stylist. Then I got a call this morning from their call center in California saying the stylist had called in sick and asking if I want to rebook with someone else. Of course the call center has no idea if the person they are booking you with is good, so I just cancelled, not wanting to waste more time with this ridiculous situation. read more

It was my first time trying something like this. Renee thoroughly shampooed my hair. Then led me to her section of the "bar." All of the seats face a large flat screen TV, which plays a movie with subtitles. It's amazing how talented they are to curl hair with a blow dryer! Renee said my hair would hold the style well, without product. I was skeptical, especially because of some humidity but she was right! I didn't have to do anything but de-frizz for 4 days including a workout! (And it could've probably lasted longer). Not only is this healthy for your hair, if lasts long. I had the best time at this location. I thought ahead and booked an appointment and was seated within 15 minutes of arrival. The shampoo was great and the girl asked about the pressure and temperature. Both were just right. I wanted to switch chairs to be next to my friend and they were so accommodating. Maria got me a coffee, while Devon did my hair. I told her about my thin hair and she offered to add volume at the crown. We chatted and I watched a movie for the 30 minute appointment. As an aside my friend didn't initially like her bangs and went back in to get them reblown and they were so nice about it. read more

I was very skeptical of this Drybar location as the other yelp reviews were less then great. That being said I don't know what these other ladies are talking about! My service started right on time. The decor was cute. A seamless blend between their online branding and marketing vs the experience they provide in person. The wash felt nice and even though I was skeptical of the products, I liked how they held up in my hair. I asked for the Cosmo and I loved the results! Bottom line: all the stylist know what they are doing judging by the hair on each lady that exited before me and I was very happy with my service. I will definitely return. read more

I was supposed to get my hair done for my engagement shoot yesterday. The closest Drybar was over 40 minutes from my house so from there, my fiancé and I would go straight to our shoot. On the way to Drybar we got stuck in traffic due to an accident so I called the Drybar number 30 minutes ahead of time to explain the situation and ask if I could push back the time. I was told my options are cancel and be charged $20 or show up to the salon and find out if they could or could not accommodate me. I explained how far I was coming and if they could not accommodate to just let me know so I could turn around and try to figure out a different solution before our photos. The woman on the phone repeated the options. I asked if I could have the number to the store to call directly to see if I could be helped or if I needed to drive home and I was told I was mot authorized to have that number. I then asked if they could call the store and ask. The woman said no and repeated my options of cancel and get charged or go to the store and find out in person if they could not help me. I ended up cancelling because I was so upset at the possibility of driving over 45 minutes to be told I couldn't be fit in and then my engagement photos not happen. The woman in the phone was not willing to help connect me to the store in any way and did not care what the hair was needed for. Didn't even offer dry styling since I would have been within my time limit for that. I ended up being late to the photo shoot after having to turn around and find a last minute solution. I've been to Dry Bar before in Penn Quarter and absolutely loved my experience there. So I had high hopes for the OG location in Bethesda. My friend's surprise party was at 9 pm and I figured I would get a blowout before the event. I called and made my appointment the same day and requested one for 7:15pm. I asked for a stylist familiar with thick curly frizzy hair. Dry Bar called me back and told me I needed to give an hour for the appointment and since the salon closes at 8 pm asked if I could switch my appointment to 7pm. Sure, no problem. I arrive right on time at 7pm. I was greeted and told to take a seat. First off, I was surprised to see there were only 2 stylists blow drying clients and neither looked nearly finished. I was feeling a little uneasy about the wait, and my suspicions were officially confirmed when the lady waiting next to me told me her appointment was scheduled for 6:45pm. The first twenty five minutes went by with no acknowledgement for the long wait, and no offer of any drink. Finally I was brought back to the VIP area and given wine to sit and wait some more. I was impatient to get my hair done and worried at this rate if I was going to make it to my party. I was ticked that I was asked to change my appointment to 7pm only to finally be attended to half an hour later. I eventually was taken back to get my hair washed by a stylist. The wash was sadly rough, not very relaxing. Not to mention quick. Within less than 4 minutes I was in and out. After making me wait for so long I was at least hoping for a nice scalp massage...nope. On to the actual blow dry: I asked for the cosmo (but told her I wanted tight curls so they would last more than the night). I could tell the way she was blow drying that these curls were not going to last. She had to use the curling iron on it all over afterwards. The entire style ended up taking an hour!! My hair did look very nice when all was said and done. Unfortunately, though it was 8:30pm and I was anxious to leave to get to my party on time - guess what? Missed the surprise moment. Great. Overall, I'm disappointed by the service and the salon. I didn't even mention how the salon floor was dirty with piled up dust that hadn't been swept up yet. The first seat I sat in - the receptionist stopped me and told me it was wet and to take a seat on the dry bench (after my butt had already touched the seat). Also, the receptionist was cleaning the ceiling tiles with a long broom after closing...but while clients were still getting their hair done. Off and on I have been taking my daughter to this location. The last appointment they were unable to style her because they basically "overbooked" and we were asked to return the next day (free of charge). Today was it. We will not be returning not only to this location, but the company. My daughter turns 13 today and wanted her hair blown out. We're African-American and she has naturally beautiful curly hair and we book with a stylist who specializes in ethnic hair. Long story short: we get there 5 mins before appointment time for the shop to prep for customers. Our appointment is at 8am, and at 8am, you're still opening up? Strike One. Quite a few customers were waiting to check in and I was among the first. A Caucasian woman steps up next to me. The receptionist looks to the Caucasian woman next to me to help her and I kindly had to interrupt to let her know that I was next in line. Strike Two. Customers all around us waiting were asked if they wanted any refreshments, while we were ignored. Strike Three. The only positive out of the experience was my daughter's stylist and her knowledge of natural hair. I made sure to get her contact information to talk with her outside of DryBar as she is a personal stylist as well. Checking out, no friendly banter or inquiries on our service. I had to inquire about the payment and receipt when I was then informed "it will be sent via email." Strike Four, Six, and Seven! I need to also be clear that those serving at this location were diverse as I do not want to highlight concerns of racial discrimination, but of judgement and overall customer care and service. Got a blowout yesterday for prom in the morning. My hair fell out almost immediately. Good thing I asked for my hair to be curled extremely tightly or else my hair would've been straight for prom. My person was super rude and had a stank attitude. I saw her on her phone while I was waiting, rolling her eyes, and after she curled my hair with the curling iron, she let my burning hot hair just fall onto my neck. This place sucks, they basically steal your money. I still left tip bc all my friends did and I felt bad but tbh she deserved 0, the only time she talked and tried to look friendly was when she realized I was paying. read more

Holy shit. This is the worst customer service I have ever encountered, it's 100% the staff at this location. I would easily give zero if I could. This is now the third time things like this have happened to me. I booked a dry style today, online it says come with your hair dry and we'll do the rest. I have curly hair so I come with washed and dry hair and ask to have my hair blown the rest of the way for a smooth wave. They say They with curl or straighten I said no I want dry style like blow dried straight, I'm told this can't happen. Mind you my apt is 4:30 and I'm not called back until 4:50 even after a girl who checked in after me said her apt was 4:45 and was called in earlier. I leave and call customer service because wtf this is NOT WHAT the online says. The lady online continues to tell me yes they will blow dry my hair, I explain they told me they will not. She continues to tell me yes they'll blow dry and not wash I'm explaingin I understand this. The customer service agent keeps telling me she'll message them and call me later, call me later it's 5 pm NYE my apt was 4:30 and you're still telling me I'm correct. The website doesn't state specifics and there is still no answer I now don't have my hair done and I'm an hour late for my night. Honestly steer clear of this place. Asked to speak to a manager and have been on hold for over 15 min, so 30 min on the phone with zero answer and people continuing to tell me the stylist and salon should have blown out my hair but yet won't give me my apt?!? read more
