I definitely stan Ethiopian salons because they don't use extreme heat that can damage your hair. I moved from VA to MD and glad I've finally found my go-to salon in the area. I have never experienced this level of disrespect in a salon before. After my hair was washed and blow-dried, I told the stylist I wanted curls. Her response was, "Yeah, with THOSE split ends." The comment was made in a rude and belittling manner. Keep in mind, I had not even seen the back of my hair at this point. I was simply communicating the style I wanted. I explained that I am not comfortable with just anyone cutting my hair because I typically trust a close family member to do so. I also clearly explained that my current priority was addressing the thinning around my crown. Her response? "Your edges are GONE. Your edges are GONE. There is no need to focus on them." Then the salon began laughing. I cannot adequately express how humiliating that moment was. Imagine sitting in a salon, being vulnerable about your hair, and instead of receiving professional advice, you become the punchline for the entire room. There is a HUGE difference between educating a client about their hair and embarrassing, belittling, or taunting them. If you disagree with a client's priorities or they aren't comfortable receiving a particular service, you should still be able to communicate with professionalism and respect. And before anyone points to the many positive reviews this salon has, please consider the negative experiences as well. I understand that some people have been coming here for years and may have become accustomed to the way certain staff members speak to clients, their attitudes, or what they consider to be "just how they are." But being a longtime customer and becoming accustomed to negativity does not make that behavior acceptable. Especially when dealing with someone who is NEW. A new client should not have to walk into a salon already knowing that they need to tolerate someone's attitude, rude comments, or disrespectful communication just because longtime customers have learned to accept it and they just don't "sugarcoat anything". What may be "normal" to regulars is NOT normal or acceptable to everyone else. It's HOW you say things at times and with all those positive reviews you would think that's understood by the salon owner and employees. I came into this establishment expecting to receive a professional service. I did not come there to be judged about my hair, laughed at, or made to feel ashamed of the very thing I was paying them to help me with. And for the price I paid, I expected MUCH better. I expected professionalism. I expected respect. I expected to feel comfortable. And quite frankly, I expected my blowout to actually last. Instead, I left feeling less than and mad that I spent my money there in the first place. No hairstyle is worth being humiliated. If you're considering this salon, read ALL of the reviews not just the positive ones and pay attention to the experiences of people who are new or who don't simply go along with everything they're told. My experience was unacceptable, and based on what happened to me, I will NOT be returning and DO NOT recommend this salon which is stating the obvious. I can honestly say this salon is some trash. From the customer service to the skills of the stylist…read morejust garbage. I came in to get my natural hair dyed blonde and cut into a style. My appointment was at 2:30 but I arrived 40mins early to ensure I wasn't there all day. I saw Susan what I wanted and she gave me some suggestions on color. I told her specifically I want blonde but I don't want it to be orange I also stated that I wanted a more so messed look to my cut because short natural cuts sometimes look boxy and masculine to me. I sat down and waited for her to finish eating which was cool because I don't want a hungry woman doing my hair. She finish eating and talking and everything else the she starts cutting my hair. She uses clippers to fade down the sides and seemed to be having trouble blending the sides to match each other. She then pulled out the scissors and began to shape my hair. Apparently she cut too much so she pulled out the clippers again and began to try to fix it. Then she starts the bleaching process. This is when it got horrible. She applies the bleach. The bleach is falling on my shirt. It's on my face and my ears. Bleach creates what's called chemical burns and as a master stylist I assumed she would know this. Once she is done applying this bleach she sits me in the lobby. My ears are on fire at this point and bleach is on the side of my face. I asked for a towel to wipe my face and ears and she acted like I was bothering her for asking. The shampoo girl washed the bleach out my hair and guess what just as I stated it's orange. She comes over and states she can tone it down and that she made it dark orange. After realizing I was not pleased at all she bleaches it a second time being extremely rough and yanking on my already fragile bleached hair. The bleach power again falling everywhere and she can careless. After they sit me somewhere but at this point I'm extremely ready to go. They wash the second install of bleach out twist my hair and sit me under a dryer. She of course again being super rough pulling these flat twist loose then I'm done this experience is over. Nope she charges me a 180 bucks my hair is probably a 1 half inch long and the second install of bleach is because she didn't know what she was doing. She throws in some little conditioner I can buy from anywhere. I will never ever go there again. By far the worst salon I have ever been to. P.S I got there at 1:40pm I left close to 6pm. Smh

Online booking was easy, and I was in and out in about 2.5 hours. I was so impressed by how efficient they were that I decided to bring my children here as well. Unfortunately, my second experience was completely different. I booked my children's appointments the day before the 4th of July and had even called two days prior because I needed help with the online booking. The employee I spoke with assisted me but never mentioned that they would only be accepting walk-ins. When we arrived for our scheduled appointment, we were greeted at the door and told they were only taking walk-ins. The salon was already packed. I explained that I had called ahead and was never informed of this change, but no one apologized, acknowledged the inconvenience, or attempted to offer any accommodation. The owner was there, sitting at the first chair in pink, braiding a client's hair the entire time, and never even spoke up or acknowledged the situation. After being told they were only accepting walk-ins, they took down the hairstyles my children wanted, discussed pricing with me, and agreed to call me when they were ready since I explained that I live nearby. Nearly two hours later, I received a call asking me to bring one of my children in. I returned immediately after. Once there, I was told it would be "10 minutes or less" before he would be in a chair. Instead, we waited for an hour before my son was finally called back. While I'm glad he was eventually seen, the wait was far longer than what we were told, and no one ever acknowledged the delay or apologized for yet another inconvenience. I will say there was one kind gesture during the entire experience. One of the braiders noticed I had been standing the whole time and offered me her seat. I declined because she needed it as well. I genuinely appreciated her thoughtfulness, and it stood out because it was the only act of kindness we experienced throughout this ordeal. What has been most disappointing is how I was treated throughout this entire experience. Instead of empathy or even a simple apology, I felt like I was being met with rude looks and dismissive. Whether that was their intent or not, that was the impression it left. As a paying customer whose scheduled appointment wasn't honored, I believe I had every right to be frustrated. At no point was I disrespectful or rude; I simply wanted clear communication and the courtesy I believe every customer deserves. Good customer service isn't just about doing great hair--it's about how you treat people when something goes wrong. A simple apology, honest communication, and realistic expectations beforehand would have gone a long way. I understand that mistakes happen, but the complete lack of accountability and professionalism is what was most disappointing.
