I believe the hair stylist's name was Sierra, she was the sweetest stylist I've had at Drybar. She made great conversation and always asked me if I was okay with a style or product before using it. I love that they have early morning appointments and my stylist (TRI) has a delightful personality and was gentle and attentive with my curly hair. I've been to plenty of dry bars around the country, but unfortunately this location is not like the others. The experience here was broken from the moment I walked in (yes, both times - I tried more than once in case it was a fluke). Both times I was in the salon (about a year apart in appointments) waited in the front for 7-10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged my presence, to check me in for my appointment. This last time the stylist came up to me and pointed to where I could put my things down, I didn't get where she was telling me to put it 3 different times. Id say I'm a competent person who can understand directions - she never came over to just show me where just continued shouting at me from the front of salon "not that one" until I found her station. She never spoke to me, which is ok not all stylists are chatty, but she then asked (while picking up the blow dryer she dropped on the floor) the receptionist if she could go home after my appointment (my appt was at 10:30am). My blowout/curls fell out that night before I even went on the date I got my hair done for. Management didn't seem to care to do anything and never returned my email. I do not recommend this drybar location. I had visited drybar in New York before and had a great experience, so I was looking forward to my appointment here, but it was a letdown. I'm giving 2 stars because my experience was influenced by my stylist, and hopefully other stylists are better. When I arrived, I was disappointed to see that all the TVs were off. I was looking forward to watching some of their signature rom coms during my appointment. I was also expecting a complimentary glass of champagne, but I later learned this is not available in all locations. To add to my disappointment, I was not even offered a water, but I saw other customers being given water bottles. When it came to my hair style, I had selected a style with lots of volume. I even watched a YouTube video produced by drybar showing how to create the style. My stylist did not follow the technique in the video, nor did she do anything else to create volume. My stylist was also not friendly. She did not ask about my day or make any small talk during my appointment. The only time she spoke to me was to scold me when she pulled my hair with the comb and I didn't keep my head still. She even bumped me in the face with her tools a few times and never apologized. Even asking her to move my part seemed to be a hassle for her. After being treated like an inconvenience throughout my appointment, she hovered over me while I paid and selected a tip amount, to the point where I was uncomfortable and felt pressured to leave a better tip than I wanted to. After this incredibly disappointing experience where I spent an hour feeling uncomfortable and left without the hair style I had asked for, I tried to contact drybar to resolve this situation. It took 2 months to even get in touch with the area manager, and another 6 weeks to reach any kind of resolution. She refunded my tip, but was not willing/able to refund any of the appointment cost. During the 6 weeks I was in communication with her, there were weeks that would go by without a response until I followed up. It seems the lack of professionalism and attention to customer satisfaction starts at the top at this location. read more

If you're looking for a great blowout in Philly, I would recommend Drybar. It was very easy to make an appointment online. I love that the location is near hotels, restaurants and shopping! I was greeted and asked what kind of blowout I wanted. The hairstylist showed me a book for inspiration and then we went to the sink. I paid for a 10 min scalp massage and she definitely massages my scalp. My scalp felt so clean. Overall the appointment took about 45 min. It was relaxing and fast which is what I wanted! read more

I had a disappointing experience on Saturday 8/24. I had spoken to a few employees about how I was getting my hair done for an outdoor wedding and needed it to last and was assured it would be fine and my hair would be treated to last all day. I ordered a cosmopolitan with a braid and showed the woman doing my hair a picture of what I wanted and she said it would be fine. She blew my hair out fine but the curls were very loose immediately and falling in the shop and it didn't look like the picture I had ordered at all. As she was finishing up with the curls she said that she couldn't do a braid and asked if a twist was fine. I was disappointed but said ok and after seeing what she did with the back I thought there was no way I would be charged an extra $15 for it because it was so simple and honestly looked unfinished with no volume at the crown and the clear elastic showing. My hair fell almost completely straight within thirty minutes. I have attached a photo of the hair just 30 minutes after my appointment finished. I left the appointment in a rush as I had to get to the wedding, but when I got home and checked the emailed receipt I was honestly shocked to see she charged me for 2 braids. She didn't even add one braid into my hair so I was shocked to see I paid an extra $30 for 2 twists I took out and had to fix myself before the ceremony. I've emailed and called multiple times for a refund and no one has gotten back to me. Disappointing. read more

Damn. Reading the reviews right before writing this and I seriously should've checked before my cousin booked a blowout for the family. I'll keep it short. I had a very important event and I told my stylist that my hair frizzes and doesn't hold curls very well. She said she had what I needed and this wouldn't be an issue. A seven minute walk to the hotel had me fully frizzy, with no curls. My friend had to redo my hair, my sisters hair, and my mothers hair before the event. This was exceptionally disappointing. I've probably gotten over a hundred blowouts in my life and maybe a dozen of them have been at Drybar locations but today I was so impressed I had to write a review! I had Dominic for my blowout today and let me tell you this man is LIGHTNING fast! He had me washed, blow dried, and straightened in 30 minutes flat! I have thick curly hair and it usually takes over an hour for a blowout, and I have to point out spots the stylist missed but Dominic got it just right on the first try. I looked through it carefully and there were no wavy or curly spots! Dominic was so kind and friendly and asked me questions about what kind of style I wanted and what my preferences were. I was so shocked when he told me I was done and I realized it had only been 30 minutes. My other experiences at this location have been fine, but this one with Dominic was OUTSTANDING. The receptionists are kind, but that's about where my positive sentiment ends. I communicated with the receptionist and stylist that I was recovering from a neck injury, and would appreciate a more careful touch. The stylist evidently thought this was funny, and proceeded to make jokes about this during my appointment. Furthermore, the stylist was extremely aggressive with the brush . I've been getting blowouts for most of my adult life, and don't have a tender head by any means. Coupled with the pain, I politely gritted my teeth and did not complain. At the end, the stylist had surreptitiously added an extra $25 treatment. When I walked why they responded "oh it's that product I told you about, remember?" I flashbacked to that conversation. The stylist mentioned offhand "I will be using x product," as they often do, and I thought this was for my knowledge in case I wanted to purchase later. The stylist should have been more clear and used language like "would you like this additional treatment that costs $x." I felt silly for being duped, but by the smooth way the stylist maneuvered this, I felt that this is a common tactic that is used by this individual to amp up their earnings. Beware. Lastly, I find this latest trend of stylists at Drybar hawking their other services on instagram quite annoying and unprofessional. During this blowout the stylist kept showing me their instagram page of their other work. I wish Drybar maintained tighter standards around this. So between the physical pain and the swindling at the end, I was left with a very negative impression of this location. I am so puzzled by the overall rating here given my experiences here. I love this Drybar. Staff are lovely, they're always running on time, and it's easy to get an appointment. What more could you ask for? Well, here you can ask for an absolute rockstar stylist. I hesitate to share this because I don't want to compete for his time but I got lucky my first visit because I by chance was booked with Dominic and he is THE BOMB. I now request him every time. I've never had my hair look better than when Dom does it and as a bonus he's just a wonderful (and hilarious) human being! WORST DRY BAR PERIOD. Go to any other salon. Don't waste your time and money. 1) They can't actually do hair. 2) They do not know how to manage their schedule. I booked an appt for 12:15 today. Someone messed up and booked me for 10:15. Note this is not the first time this has happened. But more importantly, they did NOTHING about it besides be rude and tell me to come back at the end of the day. I asked if they planned to discount me for the inconvenience to which they answered "we can't prove this was our mistake". All while laughing at me. Laughing at me. But if you run a business you have a responsibility to the patrons of that business. And when you make a mistake you should take ownership for it instead of throwing it back at me. I had to attend a wedding in the middle of the week and decided to check out Drybar since it was in walking distance of my hotel as well as the venue. I can't speak for parking, but it was easy to find on the narrow yet busily charming Market Street in Downtown Philly. My appointment was at 1:15 and arrived at 1:10 and found the facility quite empty with the exception of two other customers. I waited several minutes to be helped and was offered water although I never received any. At any rate, I forget the name of my stylist since the stereo was on loud! But through small talk, I found out it was her first day on the job. Once I knew that, I could tell she was a wee bit nervous and concentrating pretty hard! But she was very sweet and professional. Nevertheless, she did a great job that was well worth the $40 for a shampoo and style (there was a promotion that day with golden scratch off tickets and got $5 off)! I was able to zone out watching "Clueless" on the TVs so that was great too. All in all, a pretty good experience and if I'm ever back in town for an event; I'll be back! read more

Drybar is set up as a rectangular counter where clients sit and have their hair done with no mirrors in front of them. They think it's funny to pull out scissors and cut your top quality extensions since there's no mirrors in front of you and you can't see what they are doing. "Tri" was my stylist. I don't understand why there is so much negative feedback. This is a simple business that offers hair services. Hair services don't promise to treat you like royalty. You come in, get your services done, and leave. If the stylists were a little rough, it's understandable because they work with hair and scalp. Don't take it personally. They never overschedule, my appointments always start on time. Sometimes they don't have available seats but they're at least honest about it unlike other drybars (I'm looking at you battery park city cough cough). 2. Philly is a very humid city but my hair almost always comes out perfect. 3. Unfailingly polite. The last time I went with a friend it was raining and we didn't have an umbrella. They were running right on time and we're ready as soon as I walked in. I asked for a voluminous blowout that would last me the entirety of my trip, and that's exactly what they did. Very awkward and horrible experience when trying to treat myself to a relaxing morning. Music was inappropriate in both type and volume. I wasn't greeted with any hospitality, care or concern whatsoever. The stylist doing my service blasted me with freezing water and was openly hostile and aggressively rude towards me. If I hadn't had soaking wet hair and it wasn't snowing outside, I would have absolutely got up and left. Stylist after abusing me and being confronted about it, declined to complete my hair and left me sitting there with dripping wet hair. Manager did their best to recover the situation but it was so difficult given the appalling way I was treated by the stylist. 100% unacceptable and needs to be addressed. The manager did give me a small gift bag and $5 off, but seemed complacent with stylists outrageous behavior, citing "sometimes peoples personalities don't click". It is not my role or responsibility as a paying patron to make sure my stylist is in a good enough mood to behave like a professional when at work. The experience did not begin well. I had to stand outside, in the rain for five minutes, before my knocking was finally noticed and I was admitted. I was offered no apology, nothing to drink, and pointed to the wash area. My wash was handled in a very rough manner. To make matters worse, the entire wash required listening to pitch after pitch for add on treatments. I politely declined the first offer, indicated that a standard wash and condition was all I desired, but the solicitations continued. Finally, we get to the chair for styling, and all I can say is the treatment was painful, and rough complete with my hair being yanked and tools being banged against my head. I have blow drys every week, so I know this is not normal. The finished blow-dry did not look smooth, but at that point I just felt the desire to leave to avoid more pain and unpleasantness. Plus I didn't wanna waste "Stir Fry" by Migos on this spot...* As this weekend marked the official start of "wedding season" for my buddies and I, we decided to kick it off with a trip to drybar per a recommendation. Unfortunately, both of us left feeling lackluster and disappointed. There were a number of issues that, separately, might not have been worth writing a full review, but together just bummed me out so much I don't know if I'd ever go back. Upon arrival (armed with a giant puffy coat, my dress in a dry cleaning bag, and my purse, I waited at the front desk for 2-3 minutes before anyone even greeted me. I had to ask for somewhere to hang my coat, and, as I was early, I asked to use the restroom. The toilet paper had a bunch of schmutz on it (see photo on review) and that wasn't a great welcome either. My appointment was at the same time as my girlfriends, so I was hoping to wait for them and, when my stylist asked me to go with her to the back, I mentioned I just wanted to wait on them. She told me "you can text them but you have to come back with me now". I dropped my stuff off and headed back to the shampoo area, where my stylist kept telling me I wasn't "relaxed" enough in the chair. I mentioned this was my first time, and also, I am 6'2" so her advice of backing up as far as possible wouldn't work for me. It felt like she was a machine, just rattling off statements she was trained to say. After washing my hair, I was brought to the back and mentioned I'd only had a little time to look at the styles, but asked if she had any advice for a wedding that was several hours away (for hold and for appearances). She then added another soft-insult "clearly, you're very indecisive" and informed me she wouldn't give me advice because "if I spin that chair around and you don't like what you see, I don't want you blaming me." At this point, I was so visually shaken that my friend waved at me across the bar to ask if i was okay. When I started to tear up, frustrated and confused, my stylist asked if there was a problem and if I needed to switch. I let her know that would make me more comfortable. The temporary manager came over and let me know that "sometimes people's personalities just don't mesh" and helped advise me a little about some styles. I will say that my replacement stylist, Jaiza, was very kind and friendly. But the stylist before her (I didn't catch her name and don't even remember if she introduced herself) made me feel rushed, disrespected, and like I was just another head. I walked in expecting luxury and glam. The portrayal on social media and from outside screams "this is going to make you feel like a million bucks." I left feeling, instead, like garbage. And I paid $45 (plus a tip) to feel that way. Yesterday was my 2 year anniversary and I was super excited to treat myself to a nice blowout before going out to dinner with my boyfriend. I arrived at Drybar at 3:10 for my 3:15 appointment. There was only one woman that was getting her hair done. Aside from her the store was empty. After checking in I was asked to wait for my stylist. I proceeded to wait until 3:30. Once my stylist brought me back to her station she did not even go over a look book with me. She asked what I would like done and I tried to explain what I thought I had had done before. I remembered I had a photo on my phone from a previous visit and showed that to her. I told her that I loved it and that it should be fairly easy. She agreed and took me to wash my hair. When she sat me down I let her know that my scalp had been dry due to the cold weather and I was really looking forward to a good wash. This is where the real disappointment starts...my stylist didn't even touch my head!!! She did not apply any soap to my head, my crown or scalp. She simply washed the hair! I was sitting there the whole time waiting for a real wash that never seemed to be happening!! When she told me we could go back to her station I was a bit surprised but I didn't have time to argue, I had a 6pm dinner reservation to get to....as my blow dry took place I felt that things were going ok, but a bit longer than usual. Once she started to move to the top I could "feel" she was getting short with her drying of the sections. I know when my hair is dry....I can feel the weight of it on my head and I knew it was not dry...she then proceeded to work with tools. She alternated between a flat iron and a curling iron. Lord knows what she was doing...around 4:30 I sent a text to my boyfriend that I was not even halfway done and that I was worried I would not have time to make it home and change in time for a 6pm reservation. At 4:38 she told me I was done...impossible I thought....when she turned me around to look in there mirror I wanted to cry!!!! One side of my hair was curled to make me look Amish, the other side was beach wavy, a part in the back looked like I had rolled around on carpet and then there were pieces that were stuck straight! The top of my head was so frizzy that it was obvious she didn't use any product on it. She told me she wanted to fix a pieces...I was like, you think!?!? And I asked her to hit a few that I could see off to the side but it was a lost cause. She didn't even offer to give me a mirror to look at the back of my hair!!! It's probably for the best! As I walked out, all of the stylists were looking at me...they knew...they knew just how horrible my hair looked. I did not realize how bad it was until I got home and my boyfriend opened the door and said, "did you just take a hat off?!?" This is a man that thinks I could wear a potato sack and still look good! So for him to take notice is something take note of. At this point we have missed our dinner reservations but I don't care, I am not going to dinner looking like this. I think spend the next hour and a half doing my own hair. Enraged that I just spend $70 and an afternoon on crap!!! I sat on this review all night thinking about what I would say and how to not come off as such an angry customer but there is simply no other way to put it. I'm hurt, I feel taken advantage of and I hope your company does better in the future. I am attaching pictures of what your stylist left me looking like. I am also attaching a photo of what I have had done in the past and came in asking for. I hope your company uses this as an educational tool and that women read this and know to be very specific when asking for a blow out and don't leave unless you are 100% satisfied!!! *****update as of 2.1.2020**** After multiple emails back and forth from the company, all they would offer me was a free blow out. I told them that I not only spent $20 on transportation and would have to again and another $10 for gratuity that I feel they could do better than a free blow out. I asked if they would be willing to give me a free scalp massage. They declined and said, "we are offering you a complementary blow out, let us know when you would like to book!" The biggest mistake I made was not checking my hair and being in a hurry out. The manager of the location did my hair, for a wedding. I asked for a voluminous blowout, because I have extensions is was $75. And of course drybar has no direct phone number to the location and refuse to provide a refund. Hair salons charge the same or less and at least have skilled hair dressers. I have wrote all of 2 yelps reviews in my life and this was deserving of that. If I could leave a -star review I would! I scheduled an appointment for an Uptini for a wedding as an out of town guest. I called in advance to confirm they would wash my hair in advance and was told, "absolutely, YES!". I checked in for my appointment. They were on time. Okay great! This was the beginning of my hellish experience. The stylist sat me down and I immediately asked if she would be washing my hair. I explained that my hair was a week dirty. Think grease ball.... She said no, that my up-do wouldn't hold. I told her I preferred if she washed my hair. She was adamant that she didn't want to and my hair wouldn't hold. She instead just sprayed an entire can of dry shampoo on it. Red flag number one. I showed her a picture that literally came off the Drybar website so she knew exactly what I wanted. She ended up putting my hair in 4 braids, wrapped them around into a tight greasy bun and sent me on my way. $100+ dollars later, I had to go to another salon to have my hair redone where they actually washed and styled my hair. I was almost late to the wedding. I would NEVER recommend this location to anyone. read more

I'm so surprised to see negative reviews here. I came in with dry hair so I used the dry styling service. My stylist took me 5 minutes before my appointment and I was done 15minutes later. Beware of unqualified stylists. I went for a "mai tai", the loose waves (similar to how I do my own hair) but wanted my hair done professionally since I was taking engagement photos later in the day. I had to wait half an hour after my appt time, which was annoying. My stylist wasn't very talkative or social, and when I asked for the Mai Tai she asked if I had a photo, which I showed her ones of my length hair with that style on Dry Bar's insta. She could not figure out how to style my hair and needed other stylists to assist. I said a few things i wanted differently when she finished, so another stylist tried to help and ended up just making all the waves go straight from too much heat. I ended up fixing my hair at home later (so I looked fine for my engagement photos thank goodness!) I will say that I tweeted afterwards and corporate called me immediately and offered a free blow out for the future with a top stylist. Which I appreciated but I still don't know if I'll be back. Front desk and stylist were extremely rude. It was my first time and I won't be coming back to this place ever again. The stylist did not ask me how I was, didn't make any small talk when I tried to do so. I felt unwelcome there. I wish I asked the name of the stylist because she needs to get fired ASAP. As someone who's worked in the service industry for quite some time, you gotta at least try to look like you like what you're doing and maybe give a shit about the customer. When I asked questions about how to maintain a blow out and if she recommends any products it was like I was asking rude and ridiculous questions. Hire better, more passionate and motivated stylists that at least pretend to like their job. Update: The stylist who did my hair was named Sharifah. I was hoping I was the only one who had a terrible experience with her...but it looks like other people did too. She is obviously not happy with her job here, so please hire someone who is eager enough to take her place. read more
