They have turned my friend and I away twice. I've noticed the level of service is different that they provide towards the White women. Wow I am to say that this location has gone downhill in service significantly over the last few months. I was forced to leave 2 out of the last 3 times I went because there was a 45 minute or more delay past my appointment time. They did not inform me of the delay until I asked how long the delay would be when I was sitting there well after my appointment. Because I wasted my time waiting and having to leave, I ended up having to go to an event with terrible hair. I'm a barfly member and plan to cancel. The last time I was there, the stylist who was supposedly running the bar was rude and would not even cancel my appointment for me so I could leave so I had to call customer service. Truly the worst Drybar experience I have ever experienced but also just the worst customer experience in general too. Skip this place at ALL costs. The woman hated her job and it showed. She asked me "what do you want" as soon as I sat down. No hello or even her name. She hit me with the blow dryer and also burned my forehead with straightener. I've been to a DryBar in every state I've traveled (well over 10 locations). How this one is in business, I'm still wondering. My best friend and I received a call to come in early. We could not as we were getting our makeup done for an event we had in town. We arrived 5 minutes late & are told we would have to have a dry style because they are packed.....there was one stylist doing one client's hair and 2 other stylists watching tv. That's it. We nicely asked if we could just use our time up until their next clients come in and we can finish styling at our hotel ourselves. That also got a hard no. At this point the one stylist doing hair starts rudely saying that "Our location is super busy so we have different rules than other locations on the late policy." Let me repeat, There was ONE lady getting her hair done. Mind you at this point we have lost 10 minutes of time we could have had in a chair rather than them barking at us "their rules & regulations that only applies to them." With a little begging they agreed to wash our hair, then promptly shuffled us out w/out another word and had us walking the streets of Georgetown with wet hair looking for an open salon to take us. Luckily, Talio Salon across the street took mercy on us and came to our rescue. As we left with our hair done we had a direct line of sight into DryBar & they closed up at 7pm, a whole hour early. There was no one behind us, that was a lie, they just wanted to go home early. This is the worst customer service I've ever received in a DryBar or at all really. read more

The receptionist at this location are extremely rude. I've been coming to this location for years and this was my first time having Marie as a stylist and she was as amazing, the other stylist were not friendly and Marie made my experience amazing! Before when we came to get our hair done we had working TVs to watch and that is not the case now, if Marie didn't talk to me I had no choice but to watch the wall during my service because the TVs didn't work. Dare I say that one star is far too generous for the heinous atrocity that is this salon. I don't understand how this location is still operating given the transcendent levels of ineptitude they manage to reach. Genuinely, I think it must be rare to find a collection of people so hopelessly idle and apathetic towards the quality of their service. I have come to this establishment on multiple occasions (out of necessity rather than desire--it's near my home and I don't have a car / Drybar does dry styles) and on every occasion they have strived to achieve a more contemptible display of incompetence than the last. Most visits, despite having scheduled in advance, I have been asking to wait (a minimum of 20 minutes) for a stylist to be ready. In instances where this did not occur, there was nobody at the front desk (the assumption that I would have to wait long after my appointment slot to be served was implicit). Today's particular offense was so brutal that I did not have the time to continue waiting for the appointment--I left without receiving my service. I implore anyone who reads this to please, if not for the sake of your time, for the sake of upholding a standard of quality and respect (which this establishment so glaringly lacks), seek another salon (and in doing so, spare yourself the anguish of being treated without a modicum of courtesy). I would like to conclude this review with a statement of the fact that never in my life have I written a review of any sort on Yelp. It is only through the deplorable travesty that is this salon that I've felt morally obliged to condemn the establishment before the public. read more

I've been a Drybar customer for over 2 years and used multiple different locations across the country and this was by far the worst experience I've had so far. I made a 7am appointment and arrived on time. I was asked to wait and someone would be with me shortly. At 7:25am I was finally taken to get my hair washed. The styling portion of the appointment started around 7:35am. Not a great start but I explained to the stylist what I would like my hair to look like and that is was for an event the following day. She started working without asking any further questions. I asked for the ends to be curled with a round brush which I was told wouldn't hold on my hair. This is something I always have done however being that my appointment started so late I told her it was fine to skip this step as I didn't have much time. She middle parted my hair to dry some front sections without asking where I naturally part my hair. By the time I realized what she was doing, the sections were already dry. I asked her to correct the part and instead of using one of the hot tools to correct the part, she just parted the hair differently and said ok there you go. This left my hair completely flat on one side as the incorrect part was heat set in. Being that I was traveling and didn't bring hot tools myself, hence the reason I booked the blowout, to fix my hair myself at my hotel, I had to re-wet it and style it myself with the hotel hair dryer. So now I'm out $50 and wound up styling my own hair which is the exact thing I was trying to avoid by scheduling the appointment in the first place. I've been to the Bethesda location before and had a good experience so I decided to check out the Georgetown location because it's more convenient for my current situation. The very first time I went to dry bar in Bethesda, Toya was my stylist. I've been asking for her when I can ever since. Since it was a Monday, it was relatively slow (which I liked, nice calm environment) so Toya was able to do my blow out for me. I'm totally satisfied with my experience. Toya is professional but warm. She's has a great energy which is an added bonus on top of the fact that I loved my hair. She did it perfectly. I've had an experience at the location in Bethesda where my hair was pretty flat. I'm not sure if it's because not everyone can deal with different textures they aren't personally familiar with, but that could be it. When Toya did my hair it had the perfect amount of body an volume and it's so soft! I implore everyone, but especially women of color, to go to Dry Bar in Georgetown and ask for Toya if she's available. I have read a lot of reviews stating that they waited for a long time but my appt was for 6pm and I got there around 5:55 and was seen by 6:05. Further, they also have free parking in the back which is heaven sent especially in DC on Wisconsin Avenue. They offer complimentary wine, champagne or water with every service. They played good music and also had treats at the reception desk. The staff seemed overall friendly. My stylist was Doniece and she was great. I have Type 4 hair and she did a great job. The stylist here are familiar with all types of hair. I would definitely recommend this location to anyone, specifically Doniece. I can't speak on all DryBar locations but this one in Georgetown is it. read more

I used to love going to this Drybar, now it's becoming my less favorite. I end up leaving so upset and even more discouraged. The lack of technique is gone. My hair never gets completely clean. And then the last time I went, I got the hair shot. And the next day, I noticed that my scalp is burn! I will update with photos later but I just couldn't believe it. It can be a hit or miss now. Before, every stylist I went to I was impressed. Now, I don't know what I will get. Super disappointed customer. Oh and let's not even talk about the wait time!! BRAVO! - I was greeted by name and was seen ON-TIME! - Bathroom clean. - Price for my blowout and flat iron (medium length hair) was $45. SCORE! Slight Con: - I called the DC number but it was actually a national number. I wasn't told that there was a closer location to Chantilly- a trip to Tysons would've been easier to get to than Georgetown. The woman was so nice and patient (as I explained that I needed confirmation BEFORE I booked the appointment that my stylist needed to specialize in African-American hair) that it didn't matter in the end that I was directed to a further location. The call center was in another state, so I can extend grace :) Con: - As a woman of color, I would like to see the Drybar website, promo video, and internal menu in each location actually SHOW WOMEN OF COLOR and their hairstyles. I think you'd have more clientele of color if it is obvious in your advertising that you also cater to us. The salon receives 3 stars; the blow-out itself would be a 2 for what I needed. I decided to try Drybar as it's new, and I was going to be in the neighborhood to get my nails done. The place was very busy just before 1pm on a Monday, and they had to turn away a walk-in (they asked her to make an appointment for 5pm onwards). I was shocked to see that they didn't have yellow hair dryers that they don't drop from the ceiling (their logo). When discussing what I wanted, I stated that I wanted the "straight up" with the "southern" volume as I am going on TV and needed to have that volume there for the camera. At the end when the chair was turned to reveal 'the look' I didn't realize that my hair was finished -- hair feel across my right eye and I couldn't see out of it. I again informed the blowout stylist that I needed to see and present a clear face as I was going on TV. She spent a few minutes fixing it, I was happy, yet it turned out to be a temporary fix. Within the time it took me to go from Drybar to Safeway (right next door) hair was again in front of my face. I suppose that I will need to tuck my hair behind my ear and pull an Elizabeth Vargas (love her!). The picture I posted is at the Safeway -- I didn't doctor it to fall that way. The front desk staff were very friendly and did promptly take my tea order (they placed it at another chair and was tracked down later). I did miss my CNN on the TVs like my favorite K Street salon has and didn't really like Sex in the City on as I find it demeaning to women. I adverted/closed my eyes for most of the blowout as the TV was straight ahead and perhaps should have been watching to see/preemptively let the lady know that she needed to fix the front. Perhaps they aren't targeting the professional crowd or they haven't taken into consideration the Washingtonian culture (or perhaps I just need to stick with salons downtown). They take American Express and you're able to put tip/gratuity on your credit card. I had a very good experience at Dry Bar- Georgetown, today. I waited for about 15-20 mins for my appointment but once I got in the chair I was not disappointed. Tamia was fantastic! She washed my hair multiple times thoroughly and spent time finger detangling my (African American) textured hair, then quickly moved through blow drying and flat ironing with care. I was a little nervous about putting so much heat on my natural hair but I don't think the technique caused any severe heat damage. I also appreciated the ambiance of the salon. They offered me a beverage upon arrival and also had cookies out. The staff was friendly, the presentation of the salon was clean and posh. The salon played an assortment of different music genres from pop, soulful music ever and light hip hop. I would definitely recommend the salon and highly recommend Tamia. read more

I came here with two friends and had a great experience! $40 for a wash, blow dry, and curling of my hair (I got the "Cosmo" option from their style menu). We were offered a complementary beverage (we all chose champagne), and they had The Devil Wears Prada playing on the TVs above the "bar" (on silent with captions). The music is pretty loud when you first walk in, but obviously you spend a majority of your time with a blowdryer aimed at your ears, so I understand why. The decor is fun and very clean -- lots of yellow and gray color combinations. I LOVED that nobody was pushing products on me or trying to get me to buy X, Y, and Z (even though there are lots of products for sale on display around the salon). I even got a free shampoo/conditioner sample pack to take home with me. My stylist, Shakira, was super friendly, and I was really pleased with the job she did. I have SUPER straight hair, which loses it's curl quite easily, so knowing that we were there to kick off bachelorette festivities that would go through the night, she really upped the ante on my curls. As I went throughout the day some of my curls obviously deflated a little, but it still held its shape well throughout the night (and into the wee hours of the morning!) It's moderately irritating that the pricing Drybar boasts on its website is cheaper than it is in DC ($35 on the website, $40 at this location, and similar price changes for the other services). It's not that I really care about paying the extra $5, it's just that I wish they wouldn't advertise the pricing so solidly online if it isn't actually true for this market, I guess? Anyway, overall I had a really great experience. I would definitely come back if I was in the mood for a little pampering before a special occasion! The corporate office is really working to keep customers satisfied and to address our concerns. I really do believe that eventually, things will get sorted out and be better. Alli, the owner, responded to my Yelp review, then, I got a phone call & email from Erin in the LA office. She was very apologetic, said they were working to address the problems, that they had already hired some more experienced staff at the Bethesda location (which was, at the time, the location I was most critical of), & that she wanted me to schedule my future appointments through her so she could make sure I was put with a very experienced stylist when I visited. Oh, & that my next blow out was comped. So, I was thinking, "Sweet! I'll always get a really good stylist. I won't necessarily have an accurate view of whether Drybar in general is going well, but my blow outs will always rock." That's what we all really care about, right? Anyway, I went ahead and scheduled an appointment through Erin for today, for a blow out at the Georgetown location. Erin said she was going to let them know that I needed to be with their best person. I was looking forward to it! First, a small thing was that I don't like it when the person who is doing my hair doesn't get to see it before it's washed, whether getting a cut or just a blow out or whatever. But, maybe that's just me. The girl who washed my hair was nice, but in general, the hair washing at Drybar is usually pretty "eh". Nothing wrong with it exactly; it's just that you can tell they're trying to do a scalp massage & all that, but that they don't really know what they're doing. I'm usually just waiting for them to finish; it's like an awkward hook up with a guy who is trying to be all suave, while you're checking your watch & wondering how much longer it's going to take. I was seated at the first seat towards the front of the salon, right near the check in area & my stylist came over and greeted me (I don't like using names because I really don't think the problems are actually the stylists' fault; I'll call her Elle.) I was looking forward to this because I knew I had been put with someone really experienced, but... I don't know how it happened, but I don't think she was super experienced. I kept trying to explain that I wanted a normal straight and sleek blow out, but I still had to resort to describing how I wanted a cross between the Straight Up and the Manhattan. I just got my hair cut last week, so I asked my regular stylist to describe what she did as she blow dried my hair, so I could talk to Drybar stylists more intelligently. I told Elle that my hair holds lots of water so needs to be thoroughly blow-dried, with the hair stretched taut, & that blow drying should get it pretty smooth and sleek then she could finish with a quick flat ironing. I have a LOT of thick hair w/ lots of volume. First thing Elle did was put a ton of some volumizing mousse on my roots, which was surprising. As she blow dried she didn't stretch the hair taut, which I think is blow dry 101? She scalded my scalp at least 4 times, to the point that I had to cry out & pull away. After the 4th time, she said that it must be the steam because she didn't have the tip of the hair dryer near my scalp. Riiight. I have NEVER had a stylist scald my scalp that many times during a blow dry. She showed me my hair before she went to flat iron it, & it was still kind of rough & frizzy. I tried to be nice as I told her that it needed to be blow dried more before flat ironing, reiterated that it needed to be stretched tight as it was blow dried, & said that it wasn't fully dry. Elle was not pleased. She blow dried some more, still not stretched tight. I gave up. She got out the flat iron and went to town. My side bangs (which she would have seen if she had seen me w/ my hair dry) were hanging over my eyes awkwardly, & she kept trying to flat iron them to the side, over & over. I finally stopped her because A) there's only so much flat ironing my bangs can take, & B) I know that they have to be styled with a round brush. When she asked what I thought at the end, I think I said something like, "It's fine, whatever, I have to leave." She asked if I wanted hairspray & I said no. My hair doesn't usually need hairspray so I don't generally use it. The two people at the check in were whispering and looking over at me; I think they knew I wasn't happy & that Erin had emailed them etc. When I checked out, no one said anything though. Ie stylists are not being tipped because people don't know how to work the computer. - it's in varying states of clean or dirty. They're clearly making an effort to clean floors and bathrooms but the formerly white chairs in the sink are now gray with dirt. I opted for the blowout and an additional floater since it was my Bday and wanted to relax a little. I had January, she was AMAZING!! She made my hair exactly how I wanted it. I had a 7 am appt and my curls lasted till at least 11 pm that day. That's amazing since I have super flat and straight hair. I was offered coffee and watched The Proposal during my blowout. I came here to get my hair curled. I would say that you need to allot at least 45 minutes to get your blowout from start to finish. For 45 bucks I think this is a very legit spot to get a blow out. I love their service and their decor. They validate parking here so park in the garage behind their building. This is a major plus plus plus being that this is in Georgetown. Yes, the Georgetown also known as the place where parking always magically never seems to be present when you need it, but always seems to be abundant when you are not driving. On a totally different note, this location gave me a complimentary bright yellow umbrella because it started to rain. It is a super cute umbrella. I have been using this super cute umbrella for my rainy day needs. I have been using this umbrella like a mad woman especially with all the rain we have been having this week.... I just need to give up on dry bar. Every time I go I have to fix my hair afterward, which defeats the purpose. I show up today and everyone just seems, angry. They finally check me in and I explain to the girl what I'm looking for and she doesn't even react. Totally fine shampoo. During the blow out she burns my ears multiple times and doesn't even acknowledge it. Also gone are the days of them offering coffee or even water. I finally get a good look of my hair and I look like a newscaster (think big curls on the bottom layer) and bad fly always. I ask her to try to fix the bottom curls and she tells me she can try to fix it but my hair will look a mess. Cool why bother. When I check out they don't even look up or ask me how it went. I amending my review based solely on the customer service I've received. The stylists have been wonderful. On May 12, I went in for an appointment with my sisters-in-law for blow outs. Service was prompt, and everyone had a great time. When I arrived home, I noticed that I was charged for 7 blow outs!!! Even if the Bartender had charged me for all three of the appointments that were booked under my name (which they didn't because we all paid separately and they both have correct charges to their cards), WHY would their be 7 charges? The following Monday, I stopped into Drybar to clear things up. The acting manager at the time said they were unable to find these charges and that I should either call the contact number on the website or leave my name and phone number in order for the district manager, 'Erin,' to contact me. A week went by, and I didn't hear anything. I called the hotline with no luck. Even after speaking with two phone attendants, neither could locate the charges. I ended up disputing the charges through my credit card - such a pain! TODAY, I find that my card was charged another random Drybar charge. I was NOT EVEN IN THE CITY! I immediately called the Drybar hotline, and they said they would have to forward my incident to the client services team. Patrick, my phone operator, couldn't find the new charge and said I could contact the customer service email. At the end of the call, he said that customer service would reach out. PLEASE, PLEASE if you are corporate reading this review, I cannot get ahold of ANYONE who can help me remedy the over $350 of random charges on my credit card from Drybar. To add insult to injury, I used to work at Drybar. I helped open the first Boston shop as a Bartender while in grad school because I loved the atmosphere and what it stands for. With customer service unable (unwilling?) to help out, I will most likely never return to a Drybar. read more
