On the day, Pedro (technician, young guy, very sharp) called ahead to let me know that he and a helper (didn't get his name) were inbound. They got in and out quickly. Pedro showed me what they'd done and explained. He took lots of pictures and a couple of videos and sent them to me. Ben dropped by to check on things. I asked Pedro if Top Star also did HVAC work (our longtime guy retired). He said no but he'd send me a name. I've put them on my calendar for biennial (every two years) maintenance visits.

The job was not done carefully or thoroughly, leading us to require a separate repair business to come fix our dryer after a sensor was broken and it stopped heating. When that business disassembled the dryer to fix it, they also found that only about half of the dryer cavity had been cleaned. The mechanic explained that vent technicians usually don't do dryer clean-outs, since they are often not experienced mechanics and (as evidenced by our experience) don't always know their way around the dryer mechanisms. We also had some communication issues, but I'm willing to forgive most of that because I understand there were some hard times involved. We ultimately ended up getting a refund for the service, which mostly covered the price of the mechanic.

Of the quotes I got back, H Town Steam was the most competitive. I didn't end up booking at the time, but circled back a few days ago and asked them to confirm the pricing from before. They responded right away and I got it scheduled. We had to adjust the timing a couple of times, but they were responsive and accommodating throughout.
