Daniel was extremely responsive and he was more than happy to work around my schedule to do what needed to be done. He was the only locksmith on Thumbtack to even respond to my request where I even included pictures! In my case it was installing a Nest lock that required making the deadbolt hole of the door cut larger. The job was quoted at $350 which I admit was more costly than I expected, especially since it took him less than an hour to do the work. I'd have done it myself but cutting a straight hole in a door from a smaller one without a jig is dangerous (for the door) and I didn't want to buy $70 in tools that I'd never use again. He did fine work and exactly per my request. He was able to finish the job quickly and even cleaned up the mess after being considerate not to make a mess of nearby belongings. It's the little things sometimes. He is a fine example of a small business owner running it in a manner that reflects delivering the kind of service that he would want to get himself. He's also friendly, chatty, making it easy to discuss the work at hand. In fact, he showed me the technique to do this so I could do this myself. A part that costs 15$ from a supplier cost 75$. That markup wouldn't seem too bad if it weren't for the 250$ for an onsite rekey of an existing lock. That's basically a 30$ service (at most) and a 220$ service call. This all occurred during normal business hours on a weekday. Seemed deceitful about pricing. I asked Daniel to assess our front door security, as I thought our lock was flimsy. He recommended and installed a Schlage Multi-Lock, which is super-high residential security, including a non-pickable, non-duplicable key and nearly indestructible dead bolt and housing. He also changed out the part where the deadbolt goes into the frame so that it's deeply secured with six long screws rather than the standard two shorter screws.
