Customer Service Rapidly Declined! I had been a happy customer for 15 years. I'm a small business owner and although my orders are small, they are important. I had been dealing with the owner and appreciated the friendliness and attention to detail. The last 3 orders were taken by another employee and all 3 had inconsistencies. I rolled with it until the final order. Had an important presentation. The work again was inconsistent and unacceptable. Employee took zero responsibility and had an attitude like it was my fault. I tried 3 times to contact the owner to discuss and perhaps come to an understanding. No response. Maybe they've gotten to big for their britches and don't care about the little guy anymore. Very disappointing! Will not be refer business anymore. Taking mine elsewhere. read more

In the year since having my current job, I've had many needs for a great, timely printer and DSJ always pulls through. The entire staff is amazingly professional and friendly at the same time and they take all my requests in stride. I've had postcards, booklets, all sorts of things done at DSJ, and have known people who have used them for press kits, headshots, etc. Everything has always turned out spotlessly and handed over with a smile. DSJ is what people are talking about when they talk about the need to support amazing local businesses. These people are small but they know their stuff way better than you can find at any big national chain printing palace. BOTTOM LINE: Avoid this place @ all costs. In my 15-years as a Graphic Designer and working with printers all over SoCal this is, hands-down, the worst one ever. I don't like giving bad reviews, especially to people in similar trades, but I simply could not let this experience go without an alert to local consumers. Whether they go under "DSJ Printing" or "West LA Printing", I encourage you to go with their competitors which are just a short drive away. Everyone you will come in contact with here is very nice & courteous, but where the sweet talk begins is also where the quality and competence ends. A Client of mine recently relocated to the area and we began our search for a new printer. A full color Tri-fold Brochure, one of the easiest jobs for any printer of any size, generated over 25 phone calls, several e-mails, unnecessary extra hours of labor, and a final product that showcased poor quality (the colors/inks were HORRIBLE). The management did everything they could to keep me away from their Designers & Tech people to resolve the manner early and prevent the disappointing final product. Because we were already on our way to a trade show in Miami, we had no choice but to take the brochures since there was no time to correct the mistake. Edwin, the owner, sounds like a nice guy at first. However, he loves to hear himself talk and has the habit of telling you, "I am your new best friend" (a catchphrase that sounded so insincere). After attempting to reach a gentlemen's agreement with him to get $40 refunded for a ridiculous fee they added to cover "designer's time" (considering they used the print-ready file I originally sent them and there was no need for their Designer's to do anything) I learned then that his talk & promises are not reflected in the quality of work that he ultimately delivers. According to him, our order was not generating enough revenue for him to consider returning the $40 (so much for my "new best friend"). Freelancers, Independents, Business Owners, and Studios are all encouraged to not bring their business here. read more

I heard of this place through a friend who is a graphic designer. She told me they do good work, but they tend to cater to larger orders so don't expect the greatest customer service. Boy was she spot on. I had a smaller order and they seemed so nonchalant about it. I was told it would take 2 - 4 business days so that's what I expected. They did make a change for me which I did appreciate, so I figured the time started then. 8 days later I still didn't have my finished product so I emailed them. They said it would be done tomorrow so I went in. I go in, pay and realize they did my order backwards. I let him know I needed them back in a timely fashion and they said possibly 2 days (didn't show much care). It took another 4 days and I had my business partner call them. Once she asked for the manager, the guy started to apologize. He refused to offer me a discount, but ended up giving us some money back. The work was good, but the customer service wasn't good. Printing isn't rare in this side of town so if you don't treat the customer well, they'll find a better price and better service. I would have a hard time recommending this place because of my experience. read more

We bought our paper and envelopes from Kelly Paper Store in Santa Monica (buying paper in bulk is so much more affordable and the way to go) This place is great...pricing is extremely fair, staff was more than accommodating, they got the job done fast, and we were really happy with the results. After searching for a local printer I found DSJ Printing in Santa Monica. i read the reviews here on Yelp and decided to drive over and see if they could help me with my new business cards and a small print run. Michael, Rodrigo and Jerry were amazingly helpful. I am a complete novice on printing business cards, all I had was a designed logo and a powerpoint of what I wanted to do. They helped me load my fonts, format the document, pick the paper, make the modifications that I wanted within my budget. Michael and Rodrigo called me after the first print run and said we needed to make adjustments. I came in and we worked together to fix the issues and they ran two versions to see which one I liked better. This teams is extremely knowledgable and accommodating of even the smallest print job. I needed to get some calendars printed for a non-profit organization - they're to be used for fundraising purposes so every penny mattered. I contacted 8 different places - both online calendar specialists, discount printers, and other printers recommended by friends. The difference in the quotes was more than $1000 which was shocking for such a small run. One of the lowest was the quote from Jeff Sr. at DSJ. Since I liked the fact that DSJ is a family business and local, I went back to him with my lowest quote. He worked with us to get the price within our budget so we were happy to give him our business. I picked up the order yesterday. It's perfect and was done faster than any of the more expensive places could promise. During this process I dealt with Jeff Sr., Jeff Jr., and Jerry who does the graphics stuff. DSJ Printing is awesome. They make high quality prints and their customer service team is as good as it gets. They're fast, efficient and communicate with their clients well. Also, the guys working in the shop are incredibly kind and helpful. Last week, when I went to pick-up a print my car battery died. One of the staff, I think his name was Rene, was nice-enough to pull his truck around, stop traffic and jump my car with his cables. If I could give less stars I would, the worst customer service ever. I came in to get looked books made for a presentation. When I came to pick them up the day before the presentation, all of the jewelry samples were blue. Obviously I was unable to properly distribute my look books the next day. I came back after the presentation to try to get the problem fixed, I brought them a sample of my original look book that had been printed somewhere else and asked them to match all the colors. He told me that some of the coloring may change when they took out the blue color, but that they would match it. I just came to pick up my order and the COVER of my look book, everybody is pink- like bright pink! Wouldn't you notice that the people on the front page are bright pink and maybe not print out 30 copies of it? And instead of taking responsibility, the guy just says well I told you some of the color might change. Unbelievable that these guys can stay in business without any attention to detail and with such a severe lack of concern for customer service. read more

Great people who do great work. I had a personal project that I wanted printed but I knew nothing about the print world. Jerry with DSJ talked me through the proper way to set up my document before I even picked them for the job. He is a wizard on all things Adobe. He was extremely helpful, patient, and even recommended some ways to make it better. After the job was submitted and printed I had two changes; they only reprinted the effected pages which saved me a bundle. We DIY'd our own wedding invitation suite and had DSJ do all of the printing and cutting. They did such a fabulous job! The color and quality came out perfectly and their customer service was top-notch. They did 2 test prints for me before printing the entire suite, which I appreciated because we were able to fine-tune everything. I wanted to support a family-owned business so had my wedding invitations printed at DSJ Printing. I provided detailed instructions via email that were confirmed in person when we dropped off our paper; when we came to pick up the invitations, only half were complete due to an error on their side. The printer agreed to complete the order by end of day, but then wasn't able to meet the deadline. A week later when I came to pick up the completed invitations, the print job still was not complete and the invites had been cut to different sizes. (The printer was not supposed to do any cutting.) Bright side: They fixed the uneven cutting and finished the job while I waited, and the result looks great. In their favor the people at the front desk were very helpful about getting the order together (finally) after a 2-3 week process and the end result is lovely. read more

These guys are just not great business men. They treat you like you're a customer they can do without and don't really care to be on top of things. I wish I could've gone somewhere else but it all unravelled after I dropped off my files and paid the deposit. Keeping it simple, they don't call you and update you as promised, and there prices are higher than most printers. I would try somewhere else, and use these guys as a last resort. I was amazed by the level of service and kindness at DSJ. Yesterday, I went in hoping to place an order before the holiday weekend. After learning that they were closing early and would be closed until Tuesday (it was a Thursday), I was a bit bummed, but understood that it was my fault- I had waited until the last minute. After talking to Jerry for a little bit, he told me that he could do my small print job on the spot for me!
