Screw these guys. "Providers" my ass. The service, as internet goes, was equivalent to Time Warner / Spectrum, for the most part. The problems began around the 10 month mark when the service began to drop out at regular intervals. My network would disconnect once or twice per hour, and sometimes take up to 30 minutes to restore connectivity. As I work sometimes online from home, this was not an acceptable situation, so I emailed their support line to open a ticket. The rate of agent response was roughly TWO BUSINESS DAYS from each time I sent them a question. So this ticket remained open for at least a month, during which the service was sometimes fine, and sometimes as terrible as described above. Eventually I got tired of dicking around and told them I was going to cancel my account as soon as I made other arrangements. At that point, they began to call me every single day, but as I was working from the office when they called, and would have been unable to send them any useful diagnostic info from the modem/router at home, I didn't answer. Once other arrangements were made I called to cancel my account. The first person I spoke to very cheerily informed me that I would still be charged for the remaining month on my 12-month contract. I told them no, that would not be happening, as I'd just spent the last month experiencing service that was far from the level I felt I was paying for (my plan was close to $80 per month). She told me she could not issue me a credit because my support ticket was still open and thus, no problem diagnosis had been created/submitted. I told her that ticket was still open because I'd spent the past month having an extremely slow motion conversation with their support team, which in and of itself was entirely unacceptable. She told me I'd have to pay over $200 in early cancellation fees, and I asked to speak to a supervisor. She told me she would transfer me to a "level 2" technician. The second person I spoke to said they were indeed a technician, but that they could not help me with my membership problems as their job was to help me with my connectivity. I said the time for that kind of help had long passed, so they transferred me to a third person, basically just back to the customer "service" department to begin explaining the same situation all over again... The third person was, unsurprisingly, by this point, just as unhelpful as the first, if not more so. The idea that a significant lapse of service on their part (both connectivity-wise and support-wise) should result in ANY compensation to me, their customer, seemed to come across as a joke to him. He could obviously sense I was frustrated, but seemed to aim to increase that frustration (including several unnaturally long pauses during which I thought I'd been disconnected) rather than offer any kind of solution. I eventually became incensed enough to hang up on him, and cancel the card I'd used to pay for the account. I'd rather have put myself through that rigamarole than give them another cent. read more

Since I've had bad, bureaucratic experiences with other companies, I really value that. Shout out to Jamie and Priscilla in particular, but it's everyone I've ever spoken with there. Warning! Do not choose DSL Extreme for your internet service. I have been a customer of DSL Extreme for a long time. I selected them based on the recommendation of Leo Laporte, the Tech Guy. It took two (2) months, numerous phone calls and emails, and the intervention of Mr. Laporte to get the service installed. When it worked, it was great. But several times the service went down, not for hours or days, but weeks and months. Numerous calls and emails to tech services were returned 2-3 days later, always asking me to call them again when I was with the equipment. Lots of finger pointing at the cable suppliers, equipment suppliers, etc. Then finally, they would actually arrange a meeting at my house with everyone and magically the service would be repaired. It would then work fine again, until it stopped working again. This time, after another month of no internet and lots of talk but no action, I decided I was done with DSL Extreme. I told them if they were the first company to restore my service they could keep my business. They wanted to talk more. So I called Spectrum and AT &T. Spectrum showed up THE NEXT DAY and said they would have to run an underground cable to the house, so they were out. AT & T showed up two days later and left my house after two hours with the internet up and running. The tech called me four times that day; first to say he was on the way, second to tell me he had quickly identified and corrected the problem, third to tell me he was finishing the install and finally to tell me that everything checked out. He also gave me his mobile number and told me to call him directly if there were any further problems. Kudos to AT & T. I tested the internet myself and then immediately sent a notice to cancel to DSL Extreme. I also requested a credit for the one month that I did not have internet service. Instead of appreciating my many years as a customer and apologizing for the lack of internet and their failure to fix it, they blamed me for not talking to the tech staff enough. They also stated that they could not issue a credit until I spoke to the tech staff again, even though the tech staff could not and did not solve the problem and I had new internet service from a different ISP. Frankly, as a successful entrepreneur and founder of three companies, I do not understand how DSL Extreme stays in business. They basically have no customer service. Yes, you can send emails and you can call people. But it takes days for a response and then its all talk, no action and blaming someone else. I should have pulled their plug a long time ago, but again when it worked, it was good. I understand that all companies have issues once in awhile, but the good companies respond quickly and effectively to customer requests, recognizing that they exist because they have customers. DSL Extreme is not one of those companies and I strongly urge potential customers to consider my experience, and the experience of all the others who had negative reviews here, and then choose another service. read more

DSL Extreme is a good service, actually a valuable service, as long as you know what you're dealing with. I've been with them for 20 years. The very fact that people like me subscribe to DSL Extreme lowers the price of Internet for everybody. They're a third party Internet provider, piped in using the AT&T copper wires going into my house. That provides price competition in an otherwise duopoly run by whoever owns the cable and telephone lines into your neighborhood. DSL Extreme has provided reliable Internet service. Sometimes I hear my neighbors saying AT&T Internet has gone down in my neighborhood, while my DSL Extreme Internet keeps running The down side of this arrangement is that any physical wiring problem must be resolved by calling DSL Extreme's support, who then dispatch AT&T's technicians. Maybe they'll show up, maybe they won't. Eventually the AT&T technicians arrive grumbling about what a hassle it is to coordinate with another company instead of their own people. I change the subject and get them to talk about baseball. DSL Extreme's poor one-star Yelp reviews might come from customer frustration over this third-party arrangement. That and, for a few years, DSL Extreme's support used to be outsourced (to India I suspect). But I've found in the last few years, telephone support has been very good. I'll stick with DSL Extreme to keep my Internet bill low. My doing so also keeps the bills lower for my neighbors who use AT&T or the cable company. read more

I have been a loyal customer for 4 years now. I've had no internet since Friday and no one is able to give me any information as to when it will be fixed!! I'm in the process of searching for a new provider as we speak! Highly disappointed. In response to the reply: OF COURSE I called the service team and they transferred me to the tier 2 crap. They said they would contact me if they were going to send out a tech and I have called 3 times since then and they "don't know" if a tech is going to come out. Apparently, the services are still pending which is really awesome since I'm now going on day FIVE without internet. I tried contacting AT&T myself but they couldn't help me because I was going though a third party (ya'll). So, I'm pretty much at the mercy of some call center in India who has literally NO IDEA what they are doing and a tech department that is only open 9 hours a day but not on the weekends, of course, because who needs help with their internet on the weekends? I use to have this service back in fall 2016, was the best service, I cancelled because I moved in with my gf the following year. Now me and her found a house together, and we both decided to use dsl extreme again. I put my order in, had to wait 2 freaking weeks for an installation. The day of, nothing is installed except the modem, the tech left, now no one can fix the problem, I'm going to get my refund, because I held my end of the deal and they couldn't deliver. Shame on me for not checking DSL Extreme on Yelp first. I ordered service last week. They got it installed and started around 11 am on 6/20 and it was fine. But at 4:30 on 6/21, I lost service. I called in, spoke to a pretty dull customer service person who could not answer any questions or give any idea of when the situation might get handled. I woke up 6/22 and service was still down. I called and spoke to a brighter customer service person who told me that DSL Extreme (which is an AT&T service re-seller) was waiting on AT&T to respond to their service ticket. And who knows how long that might take? For a person with a home-based business, this is unacceptable--and on only the second day or service? That's beyond unacceptable. To be honest I am frankly surprised at how low Dslextreme's rating on yelp is. I've been a customer since 2013 and have had nothing but positive experience with them. The only reason why I have finally decided to cancel is spectrum has a special for 45 bucks a month for 100mbps which is lower in cost and three times faster than my current service. Now will that speed be consistent? we shall see but that's for another yelp review at another time. So anyways Dslextreme is just a at&t reseller, so I started off with basic dsl then eventually had to upgrade to truestream which is just uverse since I wanted faster speeds. Some advantages to them is,1) since they are a re seller at&t doesn't restrict the amount of data, ie if you are a heavy streamer, gamer and downloader you won't be capped and charged for overages like you would if you had signed up with at&t directly. 2) They are actually over provisioned by at&t so even though my current service which is 24mbps/3mpbs(download/upload) I was consistently getting 27 mbps dl. Now here are some caveat's dslextreme seems like it would be best for those who are somewhat computer savy's so if you have no idea how to access information from your router orr how to use the CMD prompt, then they might not be for you. Also they do cost? slightly more than at&t but with the pluses listed above it is worth it imo. Now for my current plan I am paying 70 a month since I am no longer in contract. However in a year long contract that plan goes down to 60 a month with gateway lease. You can purchase your own gateway and lower monthly costs. Finally the big SECRET for those who complain about the customer/tech service. STOP CALLING IN, go to https://www.dslreports.com/, sign up for the forum. Then go to the dslextreme forum. Post your issue there and DSLx_Nick who has been afreaking amazing for all these years will be able to solve your issues. They seriously need to give Nick a raise if they haven't yet. Despite these reviews, its better than AT&T's reviews & there's no extra BS involved with DSL Extreme ---- Just simply having the service. All these people leaving negative reviews probably didn't have the money, or didn't pay their bill. These people are also known for leaving ridiculous reviews if you look at their account. Let me tell you with this incompetent company has done to me. First of all, I have never heard of DSL EXTREME before and I wish I never had. My boyfriend and I decided to get a new apartment and we found the perfect apartment. We got the keys on March 1st and decided to have AT&T U-verse put in on March 3rd since it was a Friday and my boyfriend could take off the day to wait for them to arrive. We had an appointment set up for Direct TV but the way our apartment faced, U-verse would be the better way. Well I tired setting it up and they said they could not set up service for me because there was a business account active at my address! How the hell is that possible? I contact ATT and they inform me that a business called DSL Extreme has an open account there and until they stop service I cannot have my service put in. They are a third provider and what happened was someone started service with DSL Extreme, DSL Extreme uses AT&T lines and bought a residential account and the person that moved never stopped service. All of this, IN NO WAY MY FAULT YET I AM BEING AFFECTED. I Google their phone and call them immediately. They are telling me that they will not stop service there since the service is being paid. I explain that THAT PERSON NO LONGER LIVES THERE AND I HAVE LIVED HERE SINCE MARCH 1ST. They do not care what I have to say and frankly are extremely rude. I have my landlord call who vouches for me but NOPE it doesn't matter they tell them the same thing that it is being paid and they will not stop service. AT&T tries to call and they will not talk to them, they will only talk to the person who has the account, whoever the hell that is! So I contact my landlord and they said that the last person that lived in my apartment STILL lives in this complex! They have tried calling me him and knocking on his door but he said that he does not have an account. So this is now 7 days without internet or TV and a field manager for AT&T goes out to my apartment and uses his systems and finds out that is in fact the last person that lived there just they SPELT HIS NAME WRONG on his account which is why they could not find service. I hunt down this person and demand that they close their account and tell him that they spelt his name wrong. He is apologetic and says he will call the next day. By this time I have already put reports in with the FCC, BBB, FTC, and contacted the CPUC and the Secretary Generals office. He calls the next day and they have send him an e-mail to cancel service, only they SPELT HIS EMAIL ADDRESS WRONG so it took 10 times longer for them to send it to them. He sent me a screen shot that services were canceled and everything should be ok now right? WRONG! AT&T contacts DSL Extreme and they say that yeah sure the account is canceled but they will not release the ATT LINES FOR 30 DAYS! 30 DAYS!! Are you kidding me?! I am the one that lives here and can damn well prove it and they won't allow me to have TV or Internet for 30 more days! I think that is ridiculous and illegal since I live here and in no way whatsoever want this company as my Internet provider and I have made that crystal clear to these people. AT&T is trying really hard to speed up this process as of now. This has been a huge headache for me, my apartment management and the people at AT&T helping me with this. But this is now day 12 with no TV and Internet and this is unacceptable. This company is the worst company I have ever heard of. DSL Extreme and its crappy tier 2 tech support. Today's guy can't read the ticket notes and says he can't follow them. I have to explain all over again. He has me reset the modem but can't explain why a reset was necessary and he does not like to be questioned. Why reset today and not yesterday? Don't question him. He can't believe my modem isn't doing what he expects -even asks me if I actually pushed the Reset button- and his last resort is to call ATT and have them test their lines. Which was done yesterday while I was on the phone and helped for ten minutes but only at the lower bandwidth. 5G refuses to work. That was what the tech was going to follow up on yesterday and why she promised to call me back. So now I am with no internet (instead of intermittent) and a reset modem I can't do anything about, and I am waiting for this cretin to get through with whatever he thinks is the problem (don't question him!) while I wait for an important email. Crappy tech support. But don't question what it says because it gets mad. Because it can't tell you why you need to do something. At least I have my phone. read more

After having DSL EXTREME for at least 7 years, they have since out sorced their customer service and NOT in a good way. After going around the phone tree for over 52 minutes, we got hooked up with "HATTIE", who after giving us the Corrected amount of our bill, (my credit card on file had since expired, my bad), we asked questions about the declining quality of service all the while looking up AT&T and finding out that we were being hosed. Upon notifying her of her many contradictions and I would pay the total amount quoted "On Line" (to prevent her from "accidently" charging the higher amount), and to terminate the service, HATTIE said I would now have to pay the higher amount plus another months service because we are 8 1/2hrs. Into the new billing cycle. I less than politely demanded that I speak to her supervisor... She hung up. At this moment we speaking with AT&T and will have their service shortly. DSL EXTREME used to be a good service but since they to have gone the way CHARTER/TIME WARNER merger, taking the 2 WORST, companys and created "SPECTRUM" there is no hope of salvage. If your landline phone service is from AT&T, this is the easiest way to get uncapped unlimited AT&T high-speed internet. But first, a little history. On the cusp of the New Millennium (around 1998-'99) I called Flashcom to inquire about DSL service for my apartment in Loma Linda, California, spurred by the gushing endorsements of KFI-AM 640 radio personalities Bill Handel and Jeff Levy. Up and running in TWO WEEKS, the Flashcom rep assured me. Credit card number, please. $100.00 deposit, you know. Six months later after weekly then daily phone calls, 768K/128K ADSL finally went live at the apartment. "Worth the wait," I lied to myself. Then came the frantic phone calls from Flashcom. Would I like to upgrade to twice the speed for a mere $100.00? Giddy youthful indiscretion made me say "Yes! Please!" Little did I know that Verizon was about to throw the switch and boost all of their existing 768K accounts to 1.5M . . . at no extra charge and for the same price. Once bitten, as they say. By the time I moved to Rialto, Flashcom was long out of business as well as a bad memory and a case study in how not to run a broadband company. AT&T DSL High Speed Internet, please. 1.5M/384K: livable but not necessarily desirable. Once that was installed, the U-verse marketing barrage began which had me checking for U-verse availability every day, sometimes up to four times a day. Finally, the pre-qual came back positive: 3.0M/768k! Oh, and, uh, there's a hundred-dollar equipment upgrade for the notorious Motorola NVG510 residential gateway. Now married and with more financial responsibilities, I called it an investment and took the plunge. A couple months in and the line kept dropping so I was back to 1.5 within 6 months. Wimpy me never thought to ask for a refund of the equipment upgrade fee. Eventually, AT&T advertised faster speeds on my street, so I placed the order for 6Mbps and bundled it with U-verse Voice. In a few days, I began getting text messages asking me to call about my order. Wasted most of a 45-minute lunch break on the phone only to be told they can't boost my speed but would I still be interested in U-Verse Voice bundled with internet at my present speed of 1.5Mbps? Oh, and I'd still have to pay the $199.00 "professional installation" fee. Uh, no thanks. Over time, I added DSL Extreme to the daily pre-qual ritual, hoping and praying they'd extend the now-discontinued Fusion service to Rialto. Then, one day, the Fusion offer was joined by the new one for trueSTREAM. Typed in my address, held my breath and trembled with anticipation. There it was staring back at me: speeds up to 12Mbps down/1Mbps up. Signed up for the 12/1 package, noting the disclaimer that nothing was set in stone just yet. The technician, after testing the data integrity of my existing phone line, would be the final judge. Instead of leaving me hanging, DSL Extreme called a week before the install, the day before the install and the morning of the install. Everything went almost as if it was scripted and the installer from (surprise! surprise!) AT&T left a range extender at no extra cost (which we didn't need). And, of course, DSL Extreme called after the install to make sure everything went all right. Yes, trueSTREAM in my neighborhood is really fiber-backbone U-verse in disguise delivered over the dry pair of my existing telephone landline. By the end of the second year, AT&T increased the available speed at my address to 24Mbps down. With Sling TV added to our viewing choices, faster internet would be an advantage, so I renewed at 18Mbps. In addition to a nice speed bump that eliminates dropouts and pixelation on Sling, AT&T replaced the gateway with a dual-band 802.11ac gateway (translation: damn fast and near bullet-proof with 5GHz/802.11ac hardware like our Roku Premiere). The road hasn't been without a bump or two, like a cross-over billing issue that was resolved within hours of being reported. The speed and reliability are what count and except for an outage during a major windstorm that knocked out virtually all broadband in southern California, the performance has been 5-star worthy. read more

DSL Extreme perpetrates fraud and steals your money. DSL Extreme resells service through AT&T, but takes no responsibility for the failings of the infrastructure on which the service depends. DSL Extreme charges you for downtime, and -- what is even more egregious -- it charges you when you have already canceled your service. From the moment I signed up for broadband service, I have been on a package that is nominally fiber optic wire from the local node that serves my house to the jack inside my home (what they call "trueSTREAM"). Almost two years later, I still was on copper wire from the node, despite DSL Extreme having promised that it would soon upgrade my connection to fiber optic wire from the node. When I have called to ask about the status of the upgrade, I have gotten the same sorry excuse every time: that it all depends on AT&T. Meanwhile, I have still been charged the full amount for "trueSTREAM". Recently I suffered an outage of a full seven days because a technician at AT&T made an error at my local node. The incident finally instigated me to cancel my service with DSL Extreme and switch to Comcast (a company I had signed up with DSL Extreme to get away from, but now appears to be my least-worst option). DSL Extreme's cancellation policy is such that you are charged for the time it takes the company to get AT&T to terminate service -- a process that can take 30 days. DSL Extreme literally charges you for their inability to shut service off immediately. In short, DSL Extreme's business practices are deeply hostile to the consumer. read more

Please pay attention to all of the one star reviews. I, like many others have been with DSL for many years (18). Back in February (2019) my service became intermittent. They convinced me to switch to fiberoptic service. I wanted to keep my e-mail address as I have had it a long time and have many accounts attached to it. DSL hasn't worked reliably in four months. The following is an itemised account of my recent troubles with DSL Extreme: On 16.01.19 I started having problems with my modem disconnecting and reconnecting at a much lower rate than I should have. I have been on hold waiting for tech support for over 30 minutes and I can hear a horrible electronic hum and static on the line. Edit: 17.01.19, I just got off of the phone with a less than helpful "tech support" rep with a heavy Indian accent. I suppose I will have to wait until DSL Extreme's office opens so I can speak with an actual tech instead of the outsourced script readers. Edit 2: I spoke to another person with a heavy Indian accent and they told me I would need to speak to my carrier. When I told them that DSL Extreme is my carrier, they told me to call 888-607-6937. I looked up the number before calling and it seems to be related to some VoIP provider, which has absolutely nothing to do with my true, hardwired POTS line. Edit 3: I spoke to yet another person who finally said she would dispatch a line tech to come take a look, but she couldn't give me a timeframe for when they might arrive. Edit 4: I went ahead and signed up for the 50/50 plan to see if I can kill two birds with one stone. Edit 5: No AT&T tech ever arrived to fix the initial problem. It seems I'm stuck with a significantly slowed internet speed and a non-functional phone. Edit 6: To no surprise the day it stops raining and is sunny, drying everything, my service seems to be back to normal. That is a *major* problem. Edit 7: An AT&T tech was up on the pole today (19.01.19) and called me stating that he had fixed the problem. Edit 8: Apparently the line wasn't actually fixed because on 20.01.19 I am experiencing repeated disconnects. Edit 9: I just got off of the phone with support again and the attitude was "we're closed, too bad". Edit 10: It is 21.01.19 and my DSL has gone out for the fifth day in a row. Repeatedly contacting support has yielded no results. Edit 11: As of right now on day six, 22.01.19, my interleaver depth has jumped way up to 32/8 instead of 1/1, which I specifically requested to never be touched, causing pages I try to load to take 5 seconds or more before they even begin transferring data. In the meantime, I have called support to have them cancel the 50/50 TrueStream service update (which was placed five days ago and still never acknowledged) and I will be cancelling my DSL Extreme service outright in the next week or so. I really wonder what happened to this company. Edit 12: Day seven, 23.01.19, and my service is still not fixed. Edit 13: Day eight, 24.01.19, the connection is still flaky, and DSL Extreme still hasn't lifted a finger to help. Edit 14: Day nine, 25.01.19, my phone line and DSL has now completely cut out and there is only a loud hum on the line. When I tried to call the "24 hour" tech support line, a recorded message states that it is closed. Edit 15: Day thirteen, 29.01.19. I am set up with my new ISP and called DSL Extreme to cancel the service but was greeted by someone who identified as an employee of a different company ("Phone Power" or something to that effect. Did DSL Extreme change ownership? Is that why the service sucks now? Edit 16: Day fifteen, 31.01.19. I received a notice that technically my service would not be cancelled until 06.02.19, despite the fact that the DSL Extreme web site states it was cancelled on 30.01.19. How convenient for DSL Extreme to milk a few more bucks. Edit 17: I spoke with a DSL Extreme customer service rep (with a disgusting attitude and hillbilly accent) who told me that we may be charged for the entire week up until it's cancelled. That is unacceptable. It is now 01.02.19 and we were charged for February despite the fact that our service was already cancelled and marked as completed on 30.01.19. We were also never credited for the loss of service in January as promised by DSL Extreme's customer service. That is simply not acceptable and this will be reported as a fraudulent charge to the bank, FTC and FCC. I don't know what happened to DSL Extreme, but it's certainly not the same company that we signed on with all of those years ago. I have been using DSL Extreme for about 15 years and have never had a problem that either I or Pacific Telephone (now ATT) did not cause. DSL Extreme as always solved my internet problems quickly. I called DSL Extreme this time because my AT&T router was acting strangely. Tech support explained the problem and explained some of the details which will help me avoid worry in the future. I have not had any problems since 2018. The 2018 incident was a problem with Truestream VPN caused by AT&T repeatedly dropping the voice line and programming their router so I could not use the voice service without calling DSL Extreme and waiting while DSL Extreme tech support fixed the problem, only to have the same problem the next day. I was able to resolve the problem by dropping Truestream residential voice and using my Verizon cell phones for all telephone voice transmissions. I have had no problems since. read more

These people are so incompetent. I signed up for their DSL service because it seemed like a great rate (under $20.00/month) given the fact that I don't use it for anything other than Netflix and other TV apps. As of today four (4) tech reps have supposedly come out. The first guy that was here didn't turn on the line. Second guy claimed he couldn't access the phone box but it's outside and accessible by the alley behind my apartment building. Third rep came the Friday before my scheduled Monday appointment. I specifically took the day off to make sure I was there to coordinate with the rep but all I got was 'too bad so sad he said he fixed it'. Honestly, I'm not too tech savvy, so I thought 'maybe he did' and hired a tech guy to check the line, to make sure the modern and router were set up properly and to make sure I didn't goof on my end. What he found was that the modem didn't get a connection to the site the 'tech' tagged as mine. We know the modem is working because he did get a signal when he hooked it up to a neighbor's tagged connection. Called DSL extreme, again. Set up a 3rd party vendor meet so they could meet with my tech and figure this out. I was given a time frame of 11 am to 1 pm for Saturday. No one showed up. The liar tech said he came and didn't call because he didn't have my number. That's total BS. I waited by the box to make sure I didn't miss him, and I confirmed several times to make sure he would have my number. I called twice while waiting to make sure he was still coming and I got confirmations twice. Now it's 5:12 pm. The supervisors have told me there's nothing they can do. I've paid by the hour to have a 3rd party vendor here but again, all I'm told is that there's nothing they can do. They can however, open another ticket to send another tech out here... WTF? Why would I do that when their techs don't even show up? Honestly? These people are incompetent liars who make every excuse in the book to skirt their contact duties. I'll be cancelling my contact and if they give me shit about cancellation fees I'll take them to court. Worst experience ever. read more

DSL extreme slow. The internet speed is slow and unusable (I guess when lots of people are using it). I signed up for 3MB/s speed. During the night time, I can not watch videos because the speed is only 0.1 MB/s. I can not use the internet. Customer Service is very bad. I requested the line to cancel and they confirm the cancel in the email it is cancel. I don't have internet srevice the next day, however but they still charge me for two more months, and said the service still active. WHAT? Slow Internet, bad customer service. I was enticed by DSL extreme's incredibly low pricing on their DSL options. I settled on the 3000kbs/512kbs package, and was moderately happy with my service, even despite not receiving any speed beyond 1000kbs. Recently, however, I experienced a severe drop in my internet speed that dropped to around 0.08 mbps download and 0.20 upload speed, as recorded by speedtest.net and speakeasy speedtest. I wasn't even able to load 4 minute youtube videos unless I had the patience to wait 15 minutes. Hint: I didn't because that's ridiculous. I called tech support and was put on the phone with their outsourced tier 1 reps from who knows where who gave me the standard, scripted lines: unplug the modem, make sure everything was properly connected, etc. Obviously, I had already tried this myself, and it did not fix my issue. The rep admitted that I was not receiving the speeds in which I was paying for, and attempted to refresh the connection to no avail. After 40+ minutes, I was told I was being escalated to tier 2 customer service and would receive a call back at a later date. Fast forward to that call back where the phone rung exactly TWO times, giving me seconds to answer (unsuccessfully), before receiving an email saying they attempted to contact me. The cycle continues and my frustration rises with this terribly inept company. Fan-fucking-tastic service and my issues remain unresolved despite speaking to customer service several times. Install seemed to be fine, but then there would be outages periodically where I'd have to call in for help, which could take up to several days. For the most part the tech people were friendly and as helpful as much as they could be. However, after the 1st year, my monthly bill went from $35/mo to $60!! With no notice! After 2 more connectivity issues, I had it. I was out of service for 2 weeks while they worked on the issue, with no resolve. I contacted the billing department to ask for a credit for the time I was unable to use the service. NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE IN THE BILLING DEPARTMENT, it is an endless HOLD. I then emailed them, and finally got an answer from "Candace" who said they could not issue a credit since nothing looked wrong on their side, so it must be due to internal wiring or faulty equipment. Nothing was wrong with my wiring or equipment. After that unacceptable customer service reply, I decided it was time to go back to AT&T. My new service with AT&T was switched in 2 days. I emailed Candace back to cancel my service and received no reply. All of a sudden, 2 weeks later, this notice came from DSL Extreme: "Our records indicate that you have transferred your Fusion Phone Number to another provider. We have assigned you a new phone number for your Fusion Service. Transferring your phone number to a different service provider DOES NOT constitute a cancellation of your Fusion Broadband+Phone Service" WTH???? They wouldn't let me cancel my service and instead ASSIGN me a new phone # so they can keep billing me?? That has got to be illegal! Thankfully, my bills were charged to my AMEX, so I was able to dispute and block any future charges from this absolutely horrid company. STAY AWAY. read more

Last week, I made a payment online for roughly $80, and the company charged me $184 instead. When insisting on having this remedied, and that I never approved the charge, they told me they would fix it, remove the charge and call me back. As a backup, I took screenshots of my account invoices due. And low and behold, the page of invoices, and amounts that I owe, changed daily. In fact, it GREW! 4 days pass, and I never receive a call and the fee is still on my account. So, I become pro active. I call them and still, there is no explanation and I do not get to speak to a supervisor. BEWARE OF THE FOLLOWING; When your contract ends, they say they will notify you, in order for you to upgrade or renew your contract. Otherwise, your monthly subscription fees double. I have had 3 accounts with them for years, and NEVER EVER HAVE ANY OF MY ACCOUNTS been notified of a contract ending. They straight out LIE. WATCH OUT. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM. I've had AT&T Internet for several years with good service - both the quality of the connection and their customer service (excellent) and tech support (reasonable). Then without warning they increased their charge for basic service from $19.95/mo to $25. To be honest, $25/mo is still pretty good for such reliable connectivity, but I'm always looking for a way to get it a bit cheaper, so decided to go back to DSL Extreme (I was a satisfied customer from a few years ago.) DSL Extreme Tier-1 tech support is in the Philippines, and is not the greatest. One of their guys told me to put my modem into bridge mode to get my connection working, which is completely wrong advice. It shows that he was working solely off a script and didn't understand what he was talking about (and wasn't even reading the script correctly!). After still not having a connection near the end of my activation day, I was elevated to tier-2 support, which is here in the US (in Chatsworth, CA.) Tier-2 is much more helpful and they had me up and running in very little time. The tier-2 guy told me that less of their tech support will be outsourced in the future as they have had a lot of problems and have lost customers because of it. If the guy who told me to put my modem into bridge mode is at all typical, I'm not surprised. It was wonderful to talk to an American tech-support person, and both of them were very helpful. What I like about the tier-2 guys is they know what they're talking about, and they're not working off a script. In other words, you're talking to a person who knows their stuff and for whom English is their native language. It is only day 1 of my service but so far I'm happy with the fact that I'm getting an actual 1.34Mbps download speed for $17.83/month - twice the speed of my AT&T service for a bit less money. As for those here who don't like the early cancellation fees, I made a point of asking what they were before ordering the service. Make sure you do this too, as there is a penalty for cancelling service before the first year is up. It's a point worth taking into consideration. I'll be unhappy if I need to cancel service early, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. I'll report back in a few months. read more

Shoulda known, you get what you pay for. I didnt research this company. It just seemed more affordable than the bigger internet providers, without the bundle. However-- there is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. It took about a week to get service and I was with them in a contract in 2006 with no problem. However in 2010 I signed up for service after moving to the Bay Area. After 4 months, I had to move again for work and I stayed with them because I had signed a 1 year contract. I figured that I am completing the rest of the contract by staying with them and checked with the representative that it would count on my account. At one point I wanted to upgrade my service because it was too slow. I was willing to pay-- but this would renew my contract again! So I didn't do it. Now it's been 8 months and I have to move out of the country for work. After 15 minuts on hold to get a representative who didn't have power to help me. She asked me to write a letter to billing@dslextreme.com explaining my situation. Took 3 days for someone to say Sorry, you still have to pay. They got back to me and said I would have to pay for the remaining months even though I am not getting service. I really think this company needs to learn customer service, and to make it right with the customer. I used to recommend them, until I realized they are only just when taking your money. The trust test is how the dignity when there is a problem, speed issues, moving issues, there needs to be some accommodation and the ability for a manager to step in and make a decision in the interest of the customer. Signing up with DSL extreme is one of the biggest mistake ever. They promised speeds of up to 1.5mbps. Not true, it took me 4 minutes to download a 6 MB mp3 file. So I called DSL to ask them what is going on... 1) I called DSL extreme and asked them why it is so slow. They said that I had a new account. It would my system a few days to speed up. I am no techie so I figured a DSL connection is like a race car........runs better after you warm it up. Its been warming up for 2 days and it is still slow as hell. 2) Called them again to complain about the speed, the technical support person said that there is nothing wrong with my connection. I told them there is obviously something wrong. I can't even load netflicks. The kept on insisting that there absolutely nothing wrong. 3) I tried to download the com trend modem manual that was 5.3 MB. It took your minutes. Called them again to ask why it was so slow. The tech told me that my complaints were subjective since his system shows nothing wrong with my connection. I like that their representatives really care about customer service. Unlike other ISP's, I never feel rushed off the phone and they take the time to listen and help me. Even when it's not an issue that they support, they still share some suggestions or try to help to an extent before shutting me down and saying it's not their issue like other companies have done to me. One comment i have for people on here is ASK QUESTIONS. They will answer all the questions that you have regarding their service. If you dont ask, then you won't know.
