Restock boots - it's January in Chicago! On top of very few options, the customer service was horrible - snobby, rude manager and staff who would clearly rather not be there. OK so first it took me a little bit to figure out how to go into the parking for DSW, but maybe I'm slow. I'm used to going to the parking for Whole Foods and PetSmart off of Canal, and for DSW parking you go past that to an up-ramp on the right that looks like it's headed somewhere like a freeway but it really goes to a paid garage. You get validation but I took so long I had to pay $2 anyway. I was looking for clearance sneakers, and didn't have a lot of luck. Per the reviews I went to the clearance section all the way in the back. I'm a women's 10 and I was looking for a real bargain. Maybe on a different week I would have had more luck. I did like how they had purse displays all over, though some of the purse prices made me think "No way." read more

I visit this store about 3-4 times a year. They've always hired exceptional people. Helpful, welcoming, friendly, professional. Great selection, convenient location, impossible-to-beat pricing. When you're a customer here, you feel appreciated. Special recognition going out to Antonio, a Supervisor who I've had the pleasure of interacting with on a couple of occasions. While at the register, I recently watched him diffuse a rude, pushy, hostile female customer with the utmost patience and professionalism. This store is at a new huge development called Southgate Market in the south Loop near Roosevelt. I loved this DSW compare to the other one up North in the city due to the easy parking in the huge parking garage. And it isn't crowded at all. I thought this store was huge and spacious. There did seem to be line at the checkout though, so they need to step up their cashier staff. I love DSW's for their lower priced name brand shoes. read more

This location is much better than others I have been too. Free parking is also a huge bonus. It's never crazy crowded, as in people elbowing you to get closer to their desired shoe. It's a shoe, people, not a bar of gold. Like all DSWs, the prices are inexpensive for what you get. The staff is friendly, and there is always someone walking around to answer questions. Selection for women can be overwhelming, taking up most of the store. I came here the last time to get a pair of men's shoes, and I was a little disappointed. But hey, I'm a woman, so I can't complain to much that we take up most of the store. We are their biggest customers! read more

Great customer service in behalf of Justin( I believe that was his name or Jason, idk why I can't remember his name) My goshhhh he is such a great manager unlike a different one they had at this location but won't get into that because Justin was amazing. I was there 2 weeks ago and I had a bit of a complicated purchase with a return but he was so helpful and efficient that I was able to leave happy. But that's not all! As he was helping me the ladies next to me which were also checking out were having issues with a coupon they were using and Justin was able to help them. I had a few problems finding the store, but once I did I loved it. The store is huge and has an amazing selection of boots, which is what I was looking for. Just for kicks, I decided to look at the clearance racks, and I was walking to the back of the store, I noticed there weren't a bunch of racks bunched together. It appeared to be in a back room, which isn't uncommon. Except their back room is about half the size of the main area and they have an amazing selection. Love it! read more

I bought a pair of rain boots that had a pretty zipper in the back but when I went to zip them up for a second time it broke. I brought them back and showed them to Becca the manager she told me to pick whatever boots I wanted and she would take care of the cost since they have been getting a ton of returns on that particular boot. None of the ones I liked had my size except for the Tretorn brand and it was 25.00 bucks more. Becca took care of the additional cost for me and I took home some boots to slosh around in this Chicago weather...talk about customer service. read more

It amazes me when I visit a place and they remember me. I have purchased many pairs of shoes from here at incredible prices! Finding a great deal can be a hit or miss, but if you have the time look carefully and always check out the clearance isle where all the shoes are organized by shoe size ( I have a small foot and I think my section consists of 1 rack) The staff is extremely helpful and courteous. I feel like shoe shopping is an entirely different experience for a man. I went to this DSW on a whim, after looking around for a new pair of everyday shoes. I walked in and was psyched because the store is big, and the men's section wasn't just shoved off in the corner. Although there is a very large quantity of men's shoes, don't be fooled into thinking you will find a good variety. There was a good spread of dress shoes, but if you are looking for a more practical or comfortable shoe, I would suggest going to a different store, even a different DSW. A lot of the shoes I tried on from popular brands (New Balance, Puma, Saucony, etc) were cheap, flimsy, and overpriced. For most of the other brands, I did not see any size over 11 1/2 stocked. Though I might be a freak for having big feet, I expect a store that calls itself a shoe warehouse to carry larger sizes. The clearance/sale aisle didn't have much to offer either. A few gaudy looking shoes with not much of a markdown. I was bummed because this store didn't have one pair of shoes that I was interested in, or could even fit in. For dudes with a size 12 and up looking for a comfortable shoe, don't bother coming here. I am not trying to get down on DSW on the whole, I went to a DSW while I was out in the suburbs and had a completely different time. I found a great pair of size 13 shoes, marked down 40%, withing 5 minutes of walking in. read more

You want shoes, they got several thousand square feet of shoes in all types, sizes and price ranges. This is customer self service (and smartly assisted if you need it) at its best. I started with just a browse around the men's dress shoe areas. Continued my search by doing some home based research online of customer reviews and price comparisons with other retailers. And ultimately came back to try on several pairs in several styles. Got some very knowledgeable advice from a couple customer service people. And ultimately bought a pair here and at another location that I was referred to. Overall very satisfied and unless I have a particular brand or shoe in mind that DSW does not carry, I see no reason to shoe shop anywhere else. read more

I wouldn't love shoe shopping as much if it weren't for DSW. The boots are my fave and I have a $40/off coupon in my wallet now that whispers "redeem me" every single day. I better get over there soon before it expires! I always seem to want the boots that they don't have in my size and have to call around the city looking my size and color. But so far my crazy quests have never gone unwarranted! I even went so far once as to call a store in San Antonio where my parents live to get a pair of Zigo Soho boots I wanted so desperately. When I go to DSW, I go straight for the clearance sale because that's in my price range. The other shoes are discounted compared to fancy boutique, but they are still expensive. This particular DSW clearance selection is smaller than the one in my hometown, so it's difficult to find exactly what you like and what fits you. I did one pair not on sale because I needed it for a wedding and it was cutting close to the date. They didn't have my size in store dithery shipped the shoes to my house without the shipping fees. POOR FEET! I have been having foot problems and finding it extremely difficult to find shoes I both like and can wear right now. I HATE SHOE SHOPPING. first, you tell the salesperson what you want and in what size, then.....you wait.....Oh Shoesalesperson, Shoesalesperson, has anyone seen my shoesalesperson? Oh there (s)he is, waiting on 6 other people too....I am not patient enough to sit and wait for him/her to return with different shoes than the ones I asked for ("we didn't have your size but I know you will love these......"). I do not have the temperament to politely wait while someone goes to look for my shoes, especially now that so few shoes actually work on my currently compromised feet. That's why I LOVE DSW. I see something I like, I look to see if my size is there, and if so, I grab 'em and try 'em on. And if I like them, I buy them, ALWAYS great prices, much better prices than on most Internet discount sites (and buying shoes on the Internet NEVER works out). The staff seems helpful enough and no Shoesealesperson to bug you or make you wait or try to talk you into something you don't want. YAY DSW! read more

For such a large store that boasts below-ticket sales prices, the selections are limited. I was looking for a pair of heavy duty boots for a project and couldn't find anything in the clearance racks. The options on display fits my needs, but we're more than I was willing to pay. Everything in clearance is stuff no one wants to buy, yet the floor models are barely below what you'd pay at Nordstroms. I ended up buying the Bates Tactical Sport Boot for over 100 dollars, a savings of a whopping 10 bucks, mostly for its wide width, as it'll cover a lot more surface area, as well as its light weight design and water resistant, scratch resistant, nylon mesh. The cashier line is typically long so I check my emails (Tell the EPA: Save the bees, Lohr: Stop the Inhumane Immigration Raids, Stop the Execution of An Innocent Man) before I'm next in line for the cashier. She's not even the slightest concerned when I ask if she can hurry because I have a dinner to make. Petty. read more

I actually said yes for once, and Doris, this sweet short gorgeous woman went up to the task. Funny, found lots of options, knew the budget. I couldn't beleive it I got my own personal shopper that day. She was just amazing and I really wanted to make sure DSW knows they have a winner!
