Came in an hour before closing because my boot heel came off and I have to fly out today. Was continually reminded by the staff "we're closing in 45 min" , then "we're closing in 30 min" then, when I was trying one last pair for fit, 20 min before closing, one of the girls came up to me to say "we're closing in 10 min" even though there were 20 min left before closing. When I told her "there are 20 min left, right?" She proceeded to tell me 10 minutes because they had things to do to close up. Yeesh. Talk about making customers feel unwelcome! Plus, no one was in the store, max 3x customers, but one staff member kept complaining about how they were short-staffed. Give me a break If no one shops there you have no job. I'll never go back to this location, what an unpleasant experience and for what? Because they wanted to rush customers out so they could close up early. I have worked retail, and while I understand wanting to go home, you shouldn't make customers feel unwelcome. The staff at this store went out of their way to be aggressive and rude. I dropped my validated parking ticket while shopping, and the young lady with teal hair yelled at me and treated me like a freeloader and a thief when I came back to ask if anyone had found it. They had found it, but by the time they bothered to pay attention to us, we had overstayed the limit and had to pay for parking. $10 just for lack of simple human courtesy. read more

However, this review is about the crappy customer service, which as we all know, can drive customers away to the competition. Time for an update, it seems they're doing a bit better with their options. I really wasn't expecting to find anything, this was more of a I'm in the area, and so are they stop so I may as well check and see. Shoes, are one of those things that I don't mind spending money on, as a ill fitting, bad quality shoe will make you pay in other ways. However, there's an exception to that rule, it's when I'm only going to be wearing it for a one time special occasion, or maybe a few times, for a few hours and limited walking. These aren't traveling shoes, they're drinking and dancing shoes. They need to look nice, and be reasonably comfortable and work with whatever I bought to wear for the evening. At a price of 40 bucks, if they fall apart after one night I won't cry, these look like they'll even go for a bit longer. I also hit the clearance rack and found a great pair of business pumps reduced twice, those were 15 bucks, can't complain about that. Will this be a destination place for shoes? Probably not, however, I will stop in more often to take a you never know...look. read more

SHOE IN DEAL This place has great deals. I love my Kenneth Cole shoes but hate paying $300 for a pair. I can always find a pair of KC shoes here between $95 and $135. Kenneth Cole shoes rock. It is the only pair of shoe I can buy, wear them at a trade show for 16 hours and my feet don't hurt. I have no idea what KC does but his shoes fit me perfectly. I do get a lot of use out of these shoes. My old Greek shoemaker is always fixing things after they break. Once he rebuilt the whole sole and heel for $25. It was like getting a new pair of KC shoes again. He rocks! The back wall at DSW has great sales. So I recommend you check it out. There are some bad shoes here and may be worth a good laugh but every once in a while I find that hidden gem for an additional 40% off original price. DSW has a huge selection of shoes for me. I love how everything is on the floor. Go to Nordstroms and you ask for one shoe and the sales guy is trained to bring out 4 different similar pairs. It's annoying. They call it "4 on the floor" and it's a ploy to get you to spend more money. At DSW I only have to try on the shoes I want. If there is no size 12, I just move on to the next shoe I like. Self service has its advantages. The Men's selection is huge and the Women's is even larger but I don't have to shop over on that side. I will have to approve a few selections if my wife finds something she likes. Make sure you join the club here for coupons or extra discounts. They have validated free parking, so do not forget to bring your ticket in. You will get 1.5 hours for free, so that is plenty of time to try on shoes. So Shoe up my friend because there are deals to be had in the aisles here! read more

hi, visited the DSW shoe warehouse in Orland Park Illinois. Upon entering the store, the elevator was out of service as well as the escalator going up. I am handicapped with a walker, so I had to carry my walker up this huge flight of stairs. as I got to the top of this massive flight of stairs, the first thing I noticed was the floor. it was extremely dirty with papers, rubber bands, and debris all over the floor. In most brands they do not carry anything bigger than a size 10-10 1/2. You would be lucky if you found a size 11. They do not carry size 12s in women's in any brand whatsoever. In order to find a pair of gym shoes, I had to go to the men's section. It wasn't actually that bad because I found a pair of new balance that I purchased a few years ago in my size. if you want to try and get a pair of size 1112s you pretty much have to order them off the website. Unfortunately you don't know the weather. The shoes are going to fit or not and then if they don't you have to send them back. I just wish there was a store out there that carried women's up to size 12 or even 13s. Because this women that have bigger feet are SOL when it comes to finding shoes in a store. But getting back to the DSW store in Orland Park. It's not a store I highly recommend. I just find it very dirty. There's not enough staff on the floor to help you and they don't always carry your size. They should have a sign on the door when their elevator and escalator are out so that people who are handicapped know this before even entering. Amazing staff!! I am 13 weeks along shopping with my 2.5 year old and felt like I was going to pass out. I told the cashier that I needed to sit down for a minute but not to worry I was just pregnant and needed a minute. The staff jumped to action and got me water/candy/ a granola bar and even brought over a bench. They told me to take my time and not worry, I can't thank them enough for being so compassionate and caring in a moment when I was super vulnerable. It's wedding/bachelorette party season for me. And I'm clearly notorious for procrastinating in packing, buying dresses, shoes, etc. So, thank the Lord for DSW! I was worried about the dress I bought for a friend's wedding. After all, it was black..and my mom always yelled at me when I wanted to wear black to a wedding. She'd ask if I was going to a funeral. Yup. WIth her words in mind, I set off to DSW after work, in hopes of finding an amazing pair of non-black shoes. Even though the sale section isn't as big as the one on Clark or even in Glenview, this store is waaaaay less crowded than the other two so you don't have to fight your way through people. Plus, there's tons of mirrors so you can model the shoes at every possible angle you can think of - without feeling bad that you're hogging the mirror. After looking for about 20 min, I finally found a pair of red, t-strapped heels. Beautiful. And would perfectly complement the dress, I thought. At 40% off, the shoes came out to only be 45 bucks! Steal! FYI ya'll - This DSW is located in the same complex as Whole Foods, World Market, LA Fitness...so you can get your parking validated (first 90 min free!) Entering off Taylor is alot easier than fighting the traffic on Roosevelt. Ahhh, love South Loop. read more

I have not been to this store but the one on State Street in downtown Chicago overcharges and lies about it. I have been in that store 3 times and they all are denying theft but I ordered the shoes online and I took them back to the store on State Street. The clerk gave me a credit if $33 and charged me twice for the shoes again. She said that the charges would fall off! Liars, thieves and abusers of people with disabilities. My love for DSW knows no bounds. I never thought I was a "shoe" person, until DSW came into my life. So DSW, as whole, gets 5++++ stars. This particular location, however, makes me hyperventilate a bit. So. many. people. Clearance section so claustrophobic. Parking garage = accident waiting to happen. The store is quite large and well-organized. As a big-footed woman (size 10), I've never really had issues finding my shoe size, but damn--I strike out ALL THE TIME here. Plenty of smaller sizes--6s, 7s, but every cute shoe I saw was devoid of larger sizes. Is this were all the big-footed women shop or something!? The store is about 75-80% women's shoes. Sorry boys. And the clearance section is rather small (at least, again, for the larger sizes). They will validate your parking for up to 90-mins. While that's nice, my shoe-shopping trips rarely take less than 2 hours. And the extremely long check-out lines here don't help. So DSW, while I love you and can't bear to give you less than 3 stars, this location is not one of my favorites. read more

So here's the thing: the last time I was in here, I felt like a bit of an asshole because I kept boots (Brown Boot Search 2010) a little too long after the receipt expired. They were awesome in letting me return the boots and giving me a merchandise credit for the price paid (woo!). Awesome customer service. Now the bad news... wait, there is no bad news. The mighty siren draws you in, promising surprises and delights for the eyes and wallet... but... sometimes, she also crashes you on the rocks and leaves you cranky. Women, there are so many shoes that if you don't know what you're there for, you could easily spend a day sifting. Men, you get about 10% of the store space devoted to you, so don't get your hopes up. I found exactly what I wanted however, as did my willing companion, and in fact made a note to go back for the same pair in a different color. The shopping complex itself is a nice way to kill an afternoon, but the DSW needs to broaden its selection for some more middle-range heels. It seems all they have are ballet flats and 3-inchers. How in the hell did this kid get a job at a shoe store with that kind of attitude?! Besides him, I mostly liked this new-to-me DSW. It's huge so there are gobs of options, just make sure you block out 2 hours of your time to make it all the way through the store. BEWARE: You only get 90 minutes of parking for free in the garage, so shop fast, ladies! I thought I was going to faint when I saw that the clearance items have their very own room. I felt right at home. Unfortunately they did not have enough of the coded percentage conversion charts in this room or throughout the entire store. I found myself having to wander away from my purse all the time to find this chart. And there are clearance items all over the store, for heaven's sake! And the colors here are different than the colors on Clark Street. Confusing! How many times can I be asked if I am finding everything ok? Enough already!! Leave me alone to shop my shoe therapy in peace. I still love the selection and prices at DSW, so four stars for that. read more

~ Football Field Full O' Footwear ~ Walking into this DSW is like walking onto Soldier Field or, say, the pitch at Old Trafford and finding rows and rows of shoes for your shopping perusal. You'll walk up one aisle looking one way and then down the same aisle looking the other way checking out the discounted kicks. Meanwhile, the dance music will be pretty much blaring, and you'll have to dodge the people boogeying to the beat in the aisles. Disco Shoe Warehouse. Like others have indicated, DSW is mostly for women, but they do have approximately, from my estimate, 250 different shoes available for men, ranging from athletic to casual to dress to those gross things wherein your toes are exposed that will remain unnamed. Ew. I've stopped in a few times to shop at this DSW. The first time I was able to buy a pair of shoes to wear over at the Gulag - think ugly but functional. Those shoes will be enshrined in the Gulag Hall of Fame when I'm cast off into exile in the next few weeks. The second time I was looking for some casuals and athletic shoes but came up empty. I remember liking three or four pairs of shoes at my first visit, but I couldn't find a thing at my second visit. Picky boy. If you're not as picky as I am, you'll probably make out alright and find something. Disco Shoe Warehouse: it's great for exercise, good for getting down and dangerous on the dance floor and just okay for picking up a new pair of shoes. Three stars. read more

When you enter a shoe warehouse there are a couple things you have to give yourself over to. Mind-numbing rows of shoes you can't really afford, annoying shoppers that walk alongside you at the exact same pace, shopping in a "warehouse." This DSW...no different. I usually shop at the one in Lakeview because of convenience but I went to this store to see if they had more selection because I needed a specific size...nope. STRUCK. OUT. And after I put all my hope in these other reviews that talked about better selection. Who knew that the Lakeview and Canal St. stores stock completely different shoes. Good to know for next time...not helpful this time. Service was okay. Location is bustling. I did appreciate the validated parking. THAT was a nice surprise. I'll stay in Lakeview for now...nothing super spectacular to see here. read more

Okay, lets start out by admitting that I HATE shopping for shoes because I have square feet. Yes, just like Fred Flintstone, squares, as wide as they are long. Shopping for shoes is the bane of my existence and if shoes weren't required for me to function in society, well, they would not be part of my existence, because, I have square feet. Aside from feeling tortured from the moment I walk in, I take comfort knowing that DSW carries most of the brands that cater to people like me. They certainly have the most up to date styles and certainly at really good prices, but alas, I essentially have to comb every style in every aisle to find that elusive W width size. The upside is that I often find several pairs that actually fit, the downside is that I find thousands that don't. I wish they would just have a wide width section so I don't have to feel all self conscious and dejected each time I see awesome shoes the likes of me can never wear. This store is elusive as well, located on the top floor of an oddly located mall, it took me two or three trips to actually locate said store! Thank god for Maggie R and Penny S for setting me straight so I could locate. The store is really clean and well organized. Maybe too organized? I spent two hours on my search for a few pairs and set them down on the bench behind me while I tried on some gorgeous suede boots only to have them swooped up by the overzealous shoe organizing clerk. Damn her. When she offered to help me several minutes later she couldn't understand my fury. "Oh, just go grab them back from where you got them".....really, its been seven or eight aisles since then. I am tired and I am now defeated. There is free parking with validation and there is plentiful parking at this location. Their sale section is bigger than most shoe departments. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has regular shaped feet. Anyone needing a W, kindly avoid. Those are mine! read more

This place was having MEGA sales when we stopped in here. I really wasnt in the mode to buy anything, but I couldnt resist with all of the selection and sales! They had a TON of shoes...sandals, boots, athletic, heels, wild, etc...everything you could possible need, want or not need but still get. I got something that was originally $70, on sale for $35, on extra sale for $18, had a coupon for $10 off on my account...walked out with it for $8.16! WHAAAAAA??? I'm a huge DSW fan but the crowds at the Lakeview location really get to me. It's difficult navigating through the aisles and just never the most pleasant of shopping experiences. I was on a boot mission so I thought I'd give the Canal St. location a try. Even though I didn't find what I was looking for, I actually ENJOYED browsing the merchandise. It's sort of hard to explain, but the orientation of the aisles is different than the Lakeview DSW: they're horizontal, so you sort of leisurely snake your way to the back of the store (and clearance room)... as opposed to the vertical aisles in Lakeview where you have to walk to the back of the store, then to the front, then to the back, over and over, if you are browsing. Obviously the design is based on space efficiency but I'll tell ya, it makes a huge difference. In terms of quantity/selection, Canal St. has a much wider range than other DSW locations. It's a large space, and you won't feel like other shoppers are breathing down your back. And it's located in a mall (Southgate Market) with a Whole Foods, World Market, Office Depot, Panera, so you can run a few errands and grab a snack while you're there. Suburbia lite! read more

This is by far the best DSW I have ever been to. Maybe it was just a good shopping day, but all I know is that I got the cutest pair of Betsey Johnson shoes for $38.00. Yep - crazy - I'm still in shock. The clearance room in the back is huge, and I'm loving all the sales and deals - I even like the layout of the store, and the employees were all very friendly. Compared to the DSW on Clark, this is the place to be - it is so much better, less crowded and they have more sizes - this is my new shoe shopping destination. read more

But as a woman with very small feet (size 5 on a good day), this store is impossible. let me tell you how not fun it is to walk through the aisles looking at the sizes on the boxes instead of at the shoes on top, because I just get disappointed when I look at the shoes on top since they aren't likely to have them in my size. The only place I ever have any luck is in the clearance room in the back. I've also shopped for my boyfriend's shoes here and their men's department is TINY! They totally make me wish I could tolerate heels. I am smokin' in heels. I would wear heels if I could convince my feet to not hurt after 3 minutes. Anyway, I digress. DSW. Still tons of cute shoes for non-heeled people like me. They have an adorable selection of flats and a kickass discount section. I am an 8.5 which can be a total bummer as it seems to be the first size to sell out, but just like bad dating, on to the next one! DSW rocks the seasonal selection. I got 2 pairs of great boots this winter. (actually the same pair in two colors). In the summer, they go crazy with sandals and flip flops. I am a huge shoe lover with a vast collection of shoes. All my fellow show lovers always recommend DSW. So I bit the bullet and stopped at the Roosevelt and Canal location. I can't buy into the DSW hype. Does this location have aisles and aisles of shoes? Yes, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. There is not a huge selection of high end shoes. Moreover, DSW carries a very small selection of specialty sized shoes i.e. narrow widths. I will pass for now. read more

I live in Las Vegas & I've always passed by the DSW stores, but this was my very first time in a DSW store. And this store is huge! My friend that took me here said that this store was average size compared to the other ones in Chicago. Well, I came here to find some heels for a wedding I was going to that weekend (Sept 18th). They had a great selection of shoes, but they didn't have my size! I'm a 5- 5.5, so it was harder for me to find the color/style I wanted. In the sale section I found more than enough shoes that I would buy for Vegas, but since I was in Chicago specifically for the wedding, I had to watch what I was spending :P They did have plenty of simple & cute black shoes, but I was looking for a different/funkier color. I didn't catch the employees name, but she gave me amazing service & even went to the back to double check for my sizes. I walked out buying a pair of socks for my boyfriend & signed up for the rewards program, so I'll definitely be back to check out the ones in Vegas! read more

This location is always a mess! I've been completely ignored the couple of times that I've been here. There have been times when an employee has asked if I needed anything and then disappeared. While I was by the register looking at items, an employee asked me if I had a birthday coming up soon. I said yes and they had me sign up for a birthday coupon (They told me it would be a $10 coupon. I love shoes. My closet is a shrine to my collection.... It's a problem, I know. Fortunately, DSW has great shoes and low prices. The clearance section at this location is gigantic. At one point, it was separated from the rest of the store by a partial wall. This used to make it more of a well kept secret but now that it is more open, they have room for more shoes. This location seems to get more big designers and I was impressed to see last seasons Uggs, Kate Spade pumps, and a pair of Stuart Weitzman boots for 80% off of the clearance price. I love DSW's Clearance selection it is nice. It's where I go when I need to buy shoes in the city area. I have to say if the shoes aren't on clearance you pay a pretty penny for them. The employees are nice and I like how it's a huge store you walk and take your time to browse. This is a hit or miss kind of place, but usually I can find something if I am not looking for something specific. Deals are on the back wall. Sometimes I even check out the guys stuff. You never know what you are going to find. If you drive a car they validate your parking. I come here at least once a week... I have a shoe fetish and I don't deny it. Sometimes, my heart beats so fast it feels like it'll jump out of my chest. Anyways, sometimes I find really nice things. Sometimes, nothing at all looks good. I usually make a beeline to the clearance rack because more often that not, I find something in the clearance racks that I bought for full price just a week earlier and that makes me mad!! Argh! I got a killer pair of pour la victoire for 80 bucks... and then I saw them at Nordstrom for about $200. Phew! That made me happy! I scored a beautiful pair of Hugo Boss loafers for my dad one year so I always make a note to check out the men's section. Will be back in a day or two =) read more

The new location is so great! I found three pairs of awesome (and cheap) shoes in about 25 minutes. The clearance section is absolutely huge and i actually ended up buying a pair from that section which RARELY happens. The staff was actually pretty competent as well. We'll see if that lasts. :) The only thing that could eventually be a drawback is the parking may stop being free at this complex. I saw the pay gates installed and the ticket machines ready to be activated....so go quickly before you have to pay! read more

It's like hit or miss with me at this DSW. Sometimes I walk the aisles three to four times and find absolutely nothing. However, there have been "cha-ching" moments. Just the other day I found a cute pair of leather boot sandals for just $20! (they had the purple tag--translation--70% off.... I do not like to buy shoes full price because I love shoes and I can't break the bank, so this was definitely a "cha-ching" moment. On a side note - The only time I pay full price is for my gym shoes from Feet Fleet, however, I found my Brooks (from last season) for half the price at DSW. read more

Being on State street (a main shopping area) I should've known building space is limited (right next to the target which is also a bit cramped). I'm not complaining too much, but cramming a bunch of shoppers in there could get really suffocating. They had a good selection but not as many as other locations (due to location/size). I would go to get something quick, but not spend hours shopping at this particular location. One good thing is the fact that there is a DSW in the area. The closest one by the downtown shopping area is by the Union. read more
