The hard drive on my personal computer crashed for no good reason. After reading lots of advice and reviews, I took it to the best computer repair shop within 20 miles, and after spending a day working on it, they basically said there is nothing they could do. I broadened my search to find the best data recovery shop in the Southeast U.S., and after reading a lot more reviews and making a few calls, I decided to drive 4 hours round trip to take my hard drive to DTI Data Recovery in St. Petersburg. I certainly took it to the right place. Malcolm, who has more than 20 years experience and who I now call "the disk whisperer", looked up the model number of my hard drive in his database to see what problems he'd encountered in the past, then put it on a machine and carefully listened to the sounds it made. He made his initial diagnosis, then put it on another expensive machine that was able to provide some error codes. At that point he knew what it would take to fix it, gave me a reasonable fixed price cost to fix it and a guarantee of zero cost if they couldn't recover data off my disk, and said he would run it overnight and have the data back to me the next day. I drove back the next day and had them load all of the data onto my external hard drive, and also onto a new hard drive that they installed in my old computer, and it fired right up. They were able to retrieve 100% of my data at a very reasonable cost considering the value of the data to me, and Malcolm and Dave were both very helpful and explained everything to me. If I could give DTI Data Recovery a 10/10, I would. After being recommended to DTI by a colleague, I called the St. Pete location to explain my problem, and Malcolm answered the phone. He and his team are highly professional and knowledgeable, having been doing data recovery for 20+ years. WOW, These guys knocked it out of the park!. I had a WD Passport external hard drive with all my life info on it (10 years of photos and documents) and it had stopped working. Being a retired IBMer, it takes a bit to impress me but ..... WOW!! These guys are really good. I had an external hard drive that had 20 years of pictures on it and it quit. I took it in and left it around 11:00 am and before I could finish lunch they had cloned my drive retrieved my data and called me to come pick up the drive. I was very impressed! When I arrived to pick up the clone, they explained exactly what had happened showed me on their software and, to my amazement, the drive had been running for almost 10 years when the average life of a disk drive is 5 years. When a Windows 10 update crashed my computer, I paid Microsoft $149 to recover my data. They couldn't even figure out how to get the computer to boot. I then paid Lenovo $199 and they were able to boot the computer, but could not get at the data. I took my hard drive to DTI and Dave was able to recover all of my data very quickly and I was able to easily transfer it to a new hard drive. I thought I had lost 10 years of family photos as well as my business data, but now I am back to normal. You couldn't find a better company to do the job. read more
