Needed help with a non functional AC after a move. As expected, turned out to be a bodged thermostat install I did just to get heat working over the winter. Tech grabbed an adapter to run a proper c-wire to my smart thermostat and fixed my issue. Tech basically only charged me for the materials and an hour of labor. Tech sold me on a service plan to do seasonal AC cleanings and general maintenance and inspections, and rolled the service fee into the plan. This is smart, sensible service on every level. The service plan also promises free visits as scheduled, and the only additional costs will be equipment should something need to be replaced. Again, totally sensible. I want my HVAC system to last, so I'm happy to have a reliable company for service and inspection. read more

On 4/21, Duane Blanton rooted our sewer, 4/22 they completed a sewer camera inspection through the crawl space pipe and sealed the pipe. On 7/21 I noticed a sewage smell and heard dripping in the crawl space. We discovered a layer of sewage and the pipe clean out cover on the floor. Contacted Duane Blanton and technicians arrived. After shining a flashlight in the crawl space (not entering) they insisted the compression fitting had "blown off" and it was our fault...telling us WE were told to replace what they installed on 4/22 on our own (Who requires a client to "fix" his repair?) and we should have rooted our pipe again. They insisted the compression cap was designed to "blow off" under pressure. Technicians left saying there was nothing they could do. No attempt to rectify, repair, or assist with clean up and damage. We crawled through the sewage and found the fitting. It was NOT a compression fitting, but thick plumbers putty around a metal cap NOT designed to seal the pipe clean out. We contacted customer service again and managers were gone for the day. On 7/22, a different plumbing company repaired the pipe with a proper compression fitting as it had indeed been a noncoded compliant "fix" Duane Blanton originally installed. Our home reeked of sewage, we had to clean/sanitize the space and throw out contaminated belongs. We continued to email and call Duane Blanton with photos and video on 7/22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, each time being told a manger would contact us. Finally...on 7/29 (David D) called asking if we still needed help; 8 days after the damage was done. His solution was to refund us for the initial April payment. No acknowledgement of the clean-up required, or compensation for property lost. They ignored the damage and moved on. Duane Blanton is NO LONGER a family owned business but a corporation that won't stand behind their work. If they make a mistake...consequences are your problem...it literally stinks! read more

We needed a pressure relief valve replaced on a 5 year old water heater. Made an appointment (not an emergency) for the following Monday. Towards the end of the window on Monday for them to show they called and said they wouldn't be able to make it because they were dealing with so many peoples frozen pipes and they rescheduled for Tuesday. Jeremy arrived a little after 5pm on Tuesday. The quote to replace a pressure valve was $846....a job that probably took all of 20 minutes. I'm inpatient and really didn't want to mess around with calling other plumbers to get quotes so we just had Jeremy do the work. He did a great job and was very nice and respectful of our home. That said I believe what we were charged was ridiculous so I will not be using Duane Blanton again. read more

Our water heater displayed an error message and we noticed it was leaking. I turned it off and shut off the water pipes leading into it. "Johnny F." came by to take a look and told us it was totaled and couldn't be repaired. Later we noticed he had straight up sabotaged the heater and severed some of the cables (remember - I could turn it on and off before he came). We got a second opinion to confirm this. Our second opinion contractor's quote for the same replacement was about half to the tune of ~$4000 less than Johnny told us. My kitchen faucet was leaking water. I called to have someone come out. I had a few other small issues I wanted taken care of as long as I was paying to have plumber here. Over phone I was told about service call fee. Understandable. Showed Johnny the issues then he said there's a diagnostic fee. Diagnosing what? I told him what the issues are. Upfront pricing was vague, just given a range of "$100-200" for one fix. Pricing should be clear. Biggest issue is he said kitchen faucet handle needed to be replaced as supply hoses were bad. He wanted me to buy new faucet through them. Faucet is still under warranty so I contacted Delta and replacement handle being sent. Johnny quoted $800 to replace handle. WHAT??? That's a 20 minute job. Unhook supply hoses, pull up handle, connect hoses of new handle. Here's the kicker, Johnny was going to do anything to current handle but I asked him to pull it up to see if he could see the hoses and if they actually were leaking. When he put it back he tightened it and that was actually the fix. No more leak. But he didn't know that and ultimately left diagnosing the issue as needing new handle which he was going to charge me $800 to install. I'm happy that my little fixes were done but damn I'm glad I didn't fall for the unnecessary repair at insanely high price. Won't use them again as I hate dishonest contractors. read more

My Partner and I called for services on our water softener. They were very friendly and kind. However, we later realized after having two other companies come look at our water softener we came to the realization that we were being taken advantage of being new home owners and all. They stated that we don't have the correct water softener and that we needed a completely different machine but didn't do anything to determine whether that was actually true or not. They did not test our water to determine what our level of iron was. They stated that we would need to spend over 4,000$ to get a new one with them and made it seem like we didn't have many options at all. BEWARE OF DUANE BLANTON'S!! I called to have a kitchen faucet and garbage disposal installed, both items I provided. The faucet was a different brand but had the same type of mount as the one being replaced. The garbage disposal was the exact same model (warranty replacement). Obviously no parts needed for either job. Duane Blanton's plumber "Johnny F" hadn't provided a price or contract but turned off the water and breaker. He then gave my wife varying prices - the one for the faucet and disposal install only, $1,440, and that was with a 10% discount. The other prices were $2,074, that included new valves, and $2,163, that included drain rodding. Neither of these were needed. Assuming four hours of labor (which I'm sure is high for an experienced plumber), that's $360/hour, $518.50/hour, or $540.75/hour. None of these were in a line item format, just a total price and payment plan. We refused to pay the $79 call-out fee with this slap in the face. He then called me back after he left and miraculously the price was now $1000 for the install only. He graciously waived the $79 call-out fee. So, was this a "see how much I can take advantage of an unsuspecting woman" business practice? Or, are they actually that unethical? I get that good plumbers come with a cost, but not that much! Don't trust the Google ratings, I'm sure they are manipulated. The Yelp ratings tell a different story. read more

I had 2 shutoff valves in the house that were frozen and needed to be replaced. The 79 dollar for them to come out and inspect was reasonable but their estimate to repair was way overpriced on the shutoff valves and upsold me on needing to replace my 2 outdoor spigots. The cost of repair of the frozen shutoff valves was $1500 and found out later could have been done for no more that $750 The cost of the two outdoor spigots was $1000 and instead of replacing the spigots, only the stem of the existing spigots needed to be replaced. Again the work was solid but strongly recommend no use them due to their greatly overpricing and overselling what needs to be done read more

Called them up to have them look at a gas leak detected in our house. Two young guys came over quickly to look at what was entailed. Warning... Don't use these people... They were a bit sketchy when looking at what was going on. The have me a quote to fix the leak but then went in to this pitch on how hard it's going to be and they will need two guys. The quote was $1700!?! Okay when challenges they were lol "well we could take $100 off". Been around the town and the red flags were flying. Long story short the plumber we usually use came over as he was on vacation the next day Piece a pipe.... Some threading compound and some misc parts and labor ... total invoice = $180 If you haven't put the together that an excess of $1420 these crooks wanted to charge me!?!? I've used Duane Blanton plumbing before. David Smith is super friendly and was professional.. he was able to fixed both problems we had with no issues and did an amazing job. I felt the prices were high but he did great work so I accepted it. This review was for the last time I tried to use them.. two different plumbers came out. The first guy wasn't sure what would be needed so he had another plumber come out.. They were both friendly and professional. I was having issues with a P trap behind my washer that would create a bad smell every time I did laundry. Duane Plumbers stated it would need be replaced.. they would also replace the wet vent pips from a half inch pipe to a 2 inch and actually it would be better to vent the washer and run it up through the roof.... ok, makes sense.. only issue was that it would be $3800 to just fix the P trap and replace the pipes from the washer to the kitchen sink.. which would resolve my problem but I would still have issues down the road so if I wanted to be sure everything was fixed they would run the washer vent up through the roof. So everything would be $6200... My heart sank. I asked how long it would take to do the job and he said about a day to maybe a day and a half... so, I'm not a pro on how much plumbing materials are.. but I was thinking it wouldn't be more than a $1000... so you're saying you would charge me $5200 for a day (maybe day and a half) for work!!? I don't have that type of money! Anyways, before I decided to have a panic attack.. I got a second opinion. This company quoted me $375 for the P trap, stated that wet vent pipes (though not up to code) we're fine as long as I was careful not to put food down my drain to block it.. the pipes weren't getting backed up and that it was only the P-trap that was the issue because it was absolutely not made well. I can confirm that.. the previous owner of my house thought he was a handy man and just "MacGyvered" everything. So the new plumber stated we wouldn't need to run the vent to the roof and just replace the P-trap. I seriously felt like this guy was not trying to take advantage of me and that he just wanted to make sure I didn't waste money. I was extremely grateful! So even though Duane Blanton Plumbers have good and professional plumbers.. beware of their prices and always be prepared to get a second opinion. Hope this helps! read more

When the technician arrived, he and my husband inspected the plumbing and confirmed there were no leaks. My husband requested the technician to check the vent, the technician declined, stating they do not climb ladders. Ultimately, we paid $70 for a plumbing check. It would have been helpful if they had mentioned their policy on ladders when my husband mentioned about the vent over the phone. They should have asked where the vent was located and if it requires ladder to check. I advised my husband against using Duane Blanton Plumbing in the future. We called for preventative maintenance rodding. We had no problems. The employees came out and had trouble getting the auger in( they never got the auger past 12 feet). The next step was to sit and draw me a diagram of how plumbing works and we need to spend $4,000.00 to fix it. Long story short 3 days later I was woken up to my wife telling me we have water in the basement. I call them them explain the situation. A different employee comes out( I requested a different tech). We open the cleanout , which I never saw them close and its a compression fitting that was nowhere near tight due to the cap being broken out which is common. But they never cleaned the old pipe debris out so the cap would fit correctly ! That's where the water came out from. What kind of plumber closes up and leaves the customer like that. Im sure the head guy will blame the assistant. I'm not a plumber but I believe tight fitting is code. New guy said they the office told him they would charge me again to do a rodding or to change the cleanout. We are disputing the bill! Look at the feedback. they come out and its thousands, beware! We will never use them again. Update called a different company came the same day they said that gaps from the cap would never work. So as it turns out the new company cleaned the old debris out and put in the correct size cap. So they proceed to rod the line and got over 100 feet into the sewer for $50.00 dollars!!....and since we used the coupon any subsequent visit will be $50.00 ....guess who get my plumbing work forever! I had a few decent experiences with Duane Blanton in the past. However, the last two times they have come out to my rental, I have received ridiculous quotes. The latest quoye was $1,500 for a new toilet. I told my tenant that I'd get a $300 toilet and replace it myself. One of my two water heater tanks leaked and I called "Duane Blanton Plumbing". I was promised a same day visit for diagnosis and estimate at no cost to me. Technician nicknamed "Rambo" showed up. He did not even try to see what is wrong with the water heater. He immediately announced that the two-tank system I have is obsolete and wasteful, and I would do much better with a "tankless" system. He said that entire tankless system will cost less than replacing one failed tank. He estimated by the number of people liviing here that I do not even need a two-tank system - one would do just fine. So I told him that I would continue using the one remaining tank until it fails and then get a tankless system. "Rambo" immediately and visibly lost interest in the entire affair. I asked him how much it would cost to turn off water supply to the bad tank - a simple procedure of capping off one pipe. "Rambo" went to his truck and came back with two estimates. Tankless system - $7500. Turn off the bad tank - $800. (!!!) I said that for $800 I would do it myself. Then "Rambo" asked for $80 for the visit. I told him that I was promised a visit at no charge. He called the "supervisor" and confirmed that I get a free visit. I really don't think he actually called - just spoke into the phone to make me believe that he is talking to the supervisor. After "Rambo" left, I bought a pipe cap at Home Depot for 97 cents plus tax and soldered it on to the end of the pipe in 5 minutes or less. I could not resist and sent "Rambo" an email, telling him how I reduced his $800 job to $1. . Do yourself a favor - never have anything to do with these crooks! read more

After a DIY Kohler kitchen faucet install, I encountered numerous leaks from under the cabinet and on the pull out sprayer. Troubleshooting to the best of my ability, i finally gave in and called Duane Blanton Plumbing. They responded promptly and an hour later Rich was at my door to service my leaking faucet. Apparently I was missing two O-Rings and a flow control part in the sprayer that was missing from my brand new product. Rich had the parts from a Kohler faucet he had in his truck and fixed my leak. Great overall experience. Fyi, they charge a bit extra for service calls after 6pm. read more

My wife called them out for a simple water heater issue, 2 guys showed up in a box truck. They looked at my water heater and told me that it was $79.00 just to show up. They then said I had a cheap box store water heater (Richmond 50 gal) and that to just clean it, no part replacement, it would be $750.00! They recommended a new water heater, the one I have is a year old. The problem is a faulty thermocouple sensor that Richmond and Menards are aware of.
