He is an incredible tradesman and always our preferred choice where his services are warranted. We, however, live in Winnetka and this is outside "Armando's" service area. He, however, recommended HT Strenger to us and we are extremely happy that he did. We experienced a leak behind a kitchen wall that another vendor purported to fix yet to no avail so this was a re-do. David of Strenger reported precisely on time and opened the wall as if he was instead a laproscopic surgeon, unlike the previous failed vendor whose access hole/port was four times larger and created a mess that required the acquisition of a drywaller and several hours of collective inconvenience. The first failed plumbing contractor billed in 15 minute increments and, if I am not mistaken, so did Strenger, with the difference being the former's "efficacy coefficient" was zero. Stenger's work lacked the haphazard, sloppy and careless inputs of the first acquistion, one of those "always on the radio" suppliers whose name a collegue supplied, and who regretfully I called, as the job seemed perfunctory to say the least. Unfortunately, my belief of the strong inverse correlation that exists between a company's propensity to run obnoxious radio ads and its tendency to screw up the simplest job remains. Neither my wife nor I believed it necessary to ask a real plumber for a more proximate recommendation ("Armando, who would you hire if you lived up here" was indeed the targeted vernacular) but such is the world in which we now live. Another reviewer apparently thought it strange that the company requests "five star" reviews post completion. David made the same request but I construed this not as a plea of desperation inasmuch as affirmation that one would be forthcoming IF and only IF, we felt comfortable rendering such. Strenger's management, unlike the radio advertisers, seemingly understand that loyality, and the ability to thus eschew spending thousands of dollars or whatever these others pay on psychobabble laden. platitude filled ads, comes from telling customers what you will do and for how much, doing it as promised and then billing appropriately. We now have two favorite household plumbers with Strenger being our preferred provider up north. It's just a shame, however, that it takes typically two suppliers, both requiring remuneration, to acquire one good outcome. Strenger made write all that was wrong and I am very grateful for its excellent work. You will be too.

First…read moreI talk to a guy there and explain the situation and send pictures and am told me I'll need a camera inspection before doing a pipe repair, and the camera inspection will be $600. OK no worries, let's do it. So then they come out to do the inspection, take a look and tell me I don't need the camera inspection after all. OK great. Then they charge me $200 for coming over for 10 minutes and telling me that....OK. So the guy tells me it will be a couple of thousand dollars to dig down into the basement floor and fix the pipe, and I'm like oh that's not too bad. He says he'll send a quote over. So five days pass and I still don't have the quote after reaching out to them twice to ask for it eventually the quote comes in, and to my surprise it's over $5000. And at that point, I give up.

They did come back but said the best they could do was replace one valve and turn the water off. Thousands of dollars in a newly renovated basement and that was the best they could do. It took days for the owner to reach out and instead of making it right they offered a discount on our next job. We had to rent fans to ensure the wood floors and carpets weren't ruined and purchase all new towels. Now a few months later - NOTHING that they installed works. The dishwater leaks, the sink leaks....my husband spent hours fixing the ice maker and money to switch out lines. It seems like we keep finding issues. Very disappointed. For what we paid we shouldn't have to have buckets under the sink and our dishwasher shouldn't spray water.

Latest service was a drain replacement The extent of and costs for each project varied, as we expected, but the promptness in returning calls and showing up, the professionalism and courtesy are always consistent. We joke that plumbing is a dirty job, but Jason and his team keep it all contained and clean. He definitely leaves things better (fixed/replaced) and cleaner than when he got there. We've had to work with him from out of state to address concerns with a recent local service, and he honors his workmanship warranties, not to mention patiently ask questions to understand the situation before diving in to figure out what, if anything, is wrong. Jason is a no-nonsense, straightforward guy, which we really appreciate. He doesn't haggle, tells you whether he can do the job, how much it would cost, and when he can do it. We've read some of the negative reviews about Service King, and honestly, some of those comments sound a bit more like the result of a bad experience that the customer also played a part in. In our many interactions over the year with Jason and his crew, we feel like he has invested more into ensuring the work he does for us is the best. This is why we have called him back so many times. At this point, we just accept whatever price he tells us, though we feel he is very fair and honest, because we trust he will take care of our needs. For an aging home, we still have a long list of services we can call Jason on, and at some point, he will have helped us update/replace pretty much everything that helps this home run. If that isn't trust in good, quality service and work, then we don't know what is!

For one there are a lot of bad plumbers - notably the other people I used who were not only terrible but actually threatened me and tried to get paid for doing a horrible job. Where ex stink both knows their stuff, is fairly honest and what they intend to do, and actually deliver on it. I actually had a situation after hours where they were very straightforward and recommended me things to resolve the situation so that they would not have to come out for the dispatch. To me, that represents ethics and integrity in business. They absolutely could have shut up a dispatch and come out to make extra money but instead the perspective was: here's the fix for you here's what I recommend you do call me back if that doesn't work. These are the kinds of people I will call back to do more work. This Is the kind of service that is deserving of work. Not random review farms which we know a ton of businesses do so that they have a good rating on yelp. Their prices are also fair, and they actually do fix problems and not just put a Band-Aid over it. 5 stars. I do not know that there's anyone else I would trust for plumbing anywhere around the McHenry area.

Would not recommend this company, I've been a customer for 3 weeks which is how long their work…read morelasts. They rodded our main line when we had water coming up from our basement drain and less than a month later we have water coming up again. I called to have them come back out and they wanted to charge full price again. The last time we had the main line rodded we used a different company, and it lasted over a year. This place either has shoddy equipment or does half the job so they can charge you for a full service call later that same month.

I remembered seeing Mr. David's truck in our area. I called him and he came over immediately. He was incredibly nice, helped me turn off the water, drain the tank and, since it was a Sunday, told me he would be back the following day to replace it. He was up front about the cost which I appreciated too. He showed up when he said he would and got the job done faster than I anticipated. The job ended up costing a little more than originally estimated but he explained why. Taking out the old tank was more complicated than originally anticipated and, given the mess we had and the difficulty of the job, I felt the additional cost was totally justified. The only draw back is that he doesn't accept credit card payments. That's not always convenient for a customer but, I really do know how expensive it is to accept credit card payments and the hassle of fighting chargebacks. I respect that as a small business, it's not cost effective for him to accept them. I would highly recommend Mr. David. A small side rant to those other "professionals:" If you don't want to be contacted "after hours" for emergencies, don't put an Emergency Contact Number on your advertisements. Oh, and swearing at the person who called a number you published as an emergency number isn't acceptable!
