I should've went with my gut and got another sandwich but anyway... First of all, I have to say the staff was incredibly friendly and Joe, who waited on me, is awesome. I ordered one of the burger daily specials, but I didn't really like the taste. When Joe asked if it was okay, I told him my thoughts and he didn't hesitate to take it away so I could go for the regular burger. He commented that since it's on the menu all the time, it would probably be done better. So when that burger came out it was definitely better but still a bit uninspired, in my opinion. Great local Irish pub on capital hill. Every time I visit DC I pay this place a visit. Good whisky selection and descent rotating beer selection. I tried the Salmon Pastrami which has smoked salmon prepared like pastrami, russian dressing, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, rye bread with a house salad everything was delish and I washed it down with a voodoo IPA. Worst service ever. Refuses to split the check other than "splitting 4 even ways" and then automatically adds tip and expects it. The server never returned to the table so the tip was NOT earned. Once we all calculated cash to pay the bill, change was ignored and had to be requested. The server then stated "there's only [x] here," which was more than the total bill. Then while she was trying to find change, she was disrespectfully making comments to the bartender and another server. This was the absolute worst! Tried this place two different nights. Back of the house was amazing. Hot , delicious food . Shepherds pie was really good. Now , problem is front of the house . Both waitresses sat us and promptly took our drink order . They come back take food order, deliver food then ghost us . No refills, no " can I get you anything " , dirty plates sat in front of us entire time . A food expediter should never walk back to kitchen empty handed. TIPS are earned. Wait staff needs more training. Was never even offered dessert after waiting 10 minutes for check . And please for the love of God stop blaming everything on COVID! read more

Great atmosphere and good food! I'd been here before a few times and recently they started having live music again post covid! Go on a Thursday or Friday evening for food and fun live Irish music! I was looking for a relaxing evening and to support a local restaurant. During covid, they expanded the outdoor seating a bunch into nearby road space and added an outdoor stage for their performers. Go on a day with nice weather and can eat and listen or sing along with a few sets! Many people enjoy the beers etc, I haven't tried them but you can see that is popular with most people ordering. I went again recently on a rainy day the music was moved to a smaller stage in the bar, better outside with less competition from other people talking and TVs etc for giving attention to performers. I've gotten the burger with a side salad a few times - very tender and tasty! And last time I went I got the corned beef and cabbage, also tender and delicious! Everything I've tried is recommended and had quality ingredients! I eat low carb and they were very helpful modifying the side dishes for fewer carby ingredients (ie potatoes and carrots for more cabbage) or replacing the bun with lettuce. The location is the same intersection as Union Station at Columbus Circle, easy to get to, good for a date, friends, or a group. Inside a bit noisy by the bar and quieter in some other rooms. I've been going to the Dubliner for many years. It's attached to the Phoenix Park Hotel. This is great place to meet friends for drinks & good food. They have a front & back bar. Live music is performed in the front bar. They have a nice separate room for groups. They are currently doing carry out or limited dine in with a limited menu. Wasn't scalding hot but hot enough to be able to let it cool in my mouth while chewing. The chopped green onion made it even better. Delicious food, warm and friendly staff...FANTASTIC BREWS and just a nice place to have a meal. I came to stay in DC and was staying in the Phoenix Park Hotel (I also reviewed since that stay was so awesome). When friends coming from New York shared they were staying at the Phoenix Park Hotel, I immediately got homesick and warm when they said "there's this Irish pub restaurant in the hotel called the Dubliner' and if you're from the Big Apple, you immediately reminisce as I did of fine dinners with warm people. Great hearty food and warm, genuine attitudes. Dubliner hit it on all notes. This place gets packed and I certainly understand why it does. I spent the weekend with friends for an event and it was just fantastic. I had the Fish and Chips more than once, but others who dined with me had the Irish Stew, the Shepards Pie, the burger, the salads...I didn't hear 1 complaint about any dish. The prices are fantastic also, considering the amount of food you get against the order. I'll be back to Dubliner for sure. read more

Another great place in DC. Had a couple of different beers that are local to the area and they were great. Appetizers were pretzels, chicken strips and spinach & artichoke dip. All great and sauces for the pretzels and strips were great. Had the chicken pot pie for the main course and it was full of chicken. Very good. The rest had fish and chips and ordered more. My fiance and I walked in on a Monday night and were told it would be a half hour for a table and that we could wait at the bar. Being Irish, I was more than okay with that, but I was worried that she wouldn't be. First, we received a friendly welcome from Chris the bartender who started me off with a Guinness before I even asked for it. The bar was packed and we had to stand. As luck would have it, another friendly patron pointed out that the two women next to him were leaving. We grabbed those two stools and enjoyed our drinks. Chris then asked if we wanted menus. We asked if we were allowed to eat dinner at the bar and he said, "You can do whatever you want." We decided to stay in the bar and Chris told the restaurant to cancel our reservations. I got the mahi-mahi on Chris' recommendation, she got the chicken pot pie. The mahi-mahi was okay, the pot pie was excellent. The timing of Guinness replenishments was impeccable. Pat Murphy was playing live with his acoustic guitar and a litany of Irish tunes. We didn't linger, though I would have closed the place if we didn't have plans the next morning. The service was outstanding, the rest of the staff was friendly. The atmosphere was perfect. When I'm in DC again, I will be back! read more

Divey Irish Bar your thing? The Dubliner is a must. This was the first place our hotel recommended. If you're staying at the George Kimpton, it's a short walk through the alley. Otherwise, it's super close to Union Station. Hubs and I made it over for dinner on a Saturday night and were quickly seated and started to peruse the menu. That's when a waiter kindly asked us to move to a new table so they could accommodate a big group. We were okay with it but that goes to show how busy it can get. We should've just opted for the patio like our original plan. Hubs went with the fish and chips platter and I ordered a Rueben and fries. So, so good. I have zero complaints about the food and my Guinness was poured perfectly. The Rueben comes loaded with meat and cheese, so much that I could only finish half. Sadly, hub's second piece of fish was mostly batter but he was still full and satisfied. Our waiter was very kind and thorough, you can tell they carefully hire good staff. I stopped at Dubliner when a friend and I had an hour or so to kill before catching a MARC train back to Baltimore. We didn't eat (nothing on the menu was calling to me), but we had a few beers each. The inside of the pub is classic, but we sat outside in the patio area. The service was fine, and their beer selection was pretty decent. It was a fine place to enjoy a few drinks while waiting for a train, but it's not a place I'll rush back to! read more

Dingy little "authentic " irish pub located inside of the hotel we were staying at. They offer breakfast lunch and dinner but the menu is tiny. My Coke had no taste and my husband had a flat beer. Service is hit or miss, friendly or abrasive, and after 10:30 they close the kitchen and ask that my husband immediately order yet we saw people being sat way later getting menus and food so I guess it's not a universal policy? My husband did like his Reuben sandwich and he's picky so good job there! Bouncer on the weekend is a nice guy and the weekend entertainment of the Irish crooner was fun too. read more
