Came here yesterday for the first time during happy hour at the recommendation of a friend. He said the burger was delicious and he was absolutely right. We sat outside on the patio. Lots of seating and pet friendly if that's your thing. The happy hour includes some beer, wine and rail drinks+mixer. Pretty affordable in today's economy. I will take a pic next visit because I will return. The burger and fries is not on happy hour but was a great price and portion at 18 dollars. We picked this place out ahead of our trip to DC and boy did we make the right decision. I had to catch the World Cup final and they squeezed 5 of us in. First off, the interior ambience was my kind of pub for a soccer match. The food exceeded our expectations. We started with the hush puppies and then 4 of us got the Heidi chicken sandwich. I'd give a 5 for service but a 4 for the food. Not because it wasn't good but a 5 to me means perfection and it was just ok. I had the Asian wings w/ what I assume is housemade blue cheese. The wings were decent, nothing really crazy about the taste. The blue cheese was ok but I wish it was colder if that makes sense. Came here for happy hour on a Monday and it happened to be trivia night. There were honestly a ton of people inside and it was such a blast! If you come before seven, you get to partake in their happy hour. My boyfriend and I got some shishito peppers and happy hour drink deals (I got the rails cocktail option and my boyfriend got a beer). We ended up getting some non happy hour chicken quesadillas (which were great) and rhubarb dessert (this was only average - not the most appetizing). Will say that even though we didn't have a reservation, one of the servers kindly made sure we got a table. Otherwise service was a smidge spotty (likely with all the trivia teams showing up, it just got hectic). read more

TBH, I did not expect a place with the word "pub" in it to have such high cuisine - it was shocking to us: the salmon and risotto was amazing; but the friend rice (on menu as the Chef's Bowl) was shockingly amazing. We went here with family before a show because it was nearby and what a find! It's very small and dark inside but there's also a cute patio area outside (was too cold for us that day). We all shared the brussel sprouts, cauliflower and green tomato salad and they were all great! I had the steak for dinner and it was cooked perfectly and the sides were great too. Two folks had the veggie burger and loved it! Two others had the chef's bowl and it got mixed reviews. We ended the night with the highly reviewed pumpkin bread pudding and it was very disappointing. It was cold and somewhat hard and between the 6 of us, there was still some left at the end. Service was great throughout except at the end when they forgot to bring us the dessert and bill...we had to track down our server. And the tip was already added to our party of 6. My review is specifically for Side Door, the speakeasy -- though you have access to all of The Pub & The People food. The entrance is right on the corner of the street, but you have to look a little harder if you want to find the speakeasy entrance... I won't spoil it for ya. The interior is so delightfully retro. There are VHS tapes everywhere, an OLD old CRT TV, and much more. I had a reservation, though I was literally the only person in there. I didn't think I would need it, but within an hour the place was full. Ulf is an excellent bartender and host. Being the only staff down there, he worked the room quite well. I got a hot chocolate that was perfect for the type of weather that was happening at that time, among other things. Everything I had was fantastic. I had the pumpkin soup... which had sunflower seeds and a pomegranate molasses drizzle. It was... absolutely fantastic. Like omg. My date and I decided to split the brownie dessert. The gelato was ultimately better than the brownie itself, which wasn't the fudgiest or moistest one I have ever had, but it was still quite yummy. Maybe it's the The Pub & Not You People? I was on my way back to the place I was staying after a loooooooong day at the convention center. I had walked all day and then walked back only to see a sign on the door saying that there was a private event going on and they would only be serving other guests in the patio. It was getting cool outside. I really wanted to relax, sit, enjoy a meal as my feet were killing me. I was not overjoyed but after standing there, thinking it through I decided to go for it and sit outside with the rest of the peons. lol I followed the instructions on the sign which said go to the side door and let someone know that you were waiting for a table. So I proceeded to go into the side door and a server asked me how she could help me. I asked her if I could have a table. She said yes, but informed me that for the next half an hour to 45 minutes they would not be serving anyone outside because they were busy with the party inside. In other words, not only when I sit outside in the chilly air, but I would sit outside for a good bit before my order would even be accepted. After spending some time, reconciling myself to the fact that I would be seated outside I was exasperated to then learn that I wouldn't even be served a meal for a good bit. Why would they not let people know right up front? Or, if they are overwhelmed by the private party why not just close to the general public for that evening? read more

The Good: The Heidi chicken sandwich -- absolutely delicious. That's the only reason this place gets a star. The Bad: Don't expect flexibility or care. It's not that they won't make changes -- it's that they simply don't seem to care enough to get it right. My Third Visit: The first time, Daniel the bartender was fantastic -- friendly, attentive, made the experience great. Today? Total opposite. The staff was flustered, inattentive, and clearly out of their depth when anything went slightly off-script. The bartender even joked, "I'm Julia today," because the real Julia called out -- just odd and unprofessional. This is now my second time dealing with poor service here. The restaurant was practically empty, yet the staff seemed overwhelmed. Simple details like one guest preferring crispy bacon and another wanting it soft were ignored. When we ordered a third round, only half our group got drinks, and the rest were met with attitude when we tried to flag someone down. One person even had to find the night bartender -- who then asked if the morning bartender had been talking about us to customers. Bottom Line: Fantastic chicken sandwich, but the service is a mess -- flustered, careless, and inconsistent. Won't be returning. Amazing local spot! The moment you walk in you can feel the warm and inviting atmosphere. Comfortable seating options either at the bar, standard seating, or outside. The burger I ordered was delicious and the side of shishito peppers were perfectly dressed and salted. A solid range of drinks to choose from based on how you're feeling. We stopped by for dinner on our way to a concert at the 9:30 club and enjoyed a delicious pre-show meal. The narrow, dimly lit interior makes for a cozy, intimate setting for couples and groups alike. Service was warm, welcoming and attentive. As craft beer nerds, we were a little disappointed by the tap list but it was still a step above your typically tavern selection. I ordered the housemade veggie burger with a side of shishito peppers. The burger did not disappoint! The patty itself was dense but not overly dry, with a nice black bean to rice ratio. The toppings and sauces elevate the bite, providing diversity in flavor and texture, with an airy, fresh bun to pull it all together. The shoe string fries are seasoned to perfection and addicting, though mine arrived a little colder than preferable. The shishito peppers were a delicious surprise, cooked and seasoned well. Pub and The People is one of my go-tos for a hiding in plain sight joint that has great helpful wait staff and bartenders and even greater tasting food that has just right amount of seasoning. The Japchae Salmon was fantastic. A nearly 2.0 inch thick piece of salmon on top of a bed of Korean Japchae noodles with mixed vegetables embedded in the noodles and the peanut oil adding natural salt-flavoring. I think it's their best entree. The night that I went, I had my senior citizen relatives visiting from NYC, and the waitress was kind enough to warn us that a post-wedding party of 12 was arriving and the place might suddenly get very loud and noisy. Turns out the wedding party wanted to enjoy their drinks on the outside patio, so we enjoyed our quiet inside dining, but it was so nice of our waitress to give us a heads up! Oh and if you like dogs, their restrooms are plastered with pics of customers canines! read more

Stopped by for dinner and drinks before a concert at The Pocket. The weather was perfect for dining al fresco on the lovely patio. We stepped inside only briefly and were told we could sit anywhere on the patio, where as soon as we were seated we were greeted and offered menus. Our drinks were served quickly and we were so busy chatting it took a while for us to order, but once we did the food came out hot and quickly. "The Heidi" was a delicious combination of crispy chicken, cheddar, bacon, smoked guacamole, and chipotle aioli. This was a weird experience. Walking in, the warm decor and small tables tucked together makes for a very welcoming ambience. Most of the tables were full, but it wasn't incredibly loud, and several patrons were situated at the lengthy bar. The draft beer list is respectable, and the cocktails are unique and rather good. The food was completely forgettable, which surprised us as the presentation and appearance is great. I rarely have food that looks really good but is really... not. I started with the tempura cauliflower which was absolutely drenched in a sticky hoisin-based sauce. With the amount of sauce it was overwhelming and way too sweet, and I couldn't detect if the cauliflower had been fried or just steamed plain. I finished with the flank steak, which was alright but wasn't seasoned much at all and was just like, there. The broccoli and other sides were pretty good, but it's tough to mess up broccoli. The bartender was, let's say odd. Overall he behaved like customers were annoying him and preventing him from stocking the glassware. He got along fine with the other server working, so apparently it's not just a gruff personality. Asked about things on the menu, he offered "I don't know, you're the one who's going to eat it." Or my friend asking about some of the signature cocktails and he helpfully opined "those are two totally different things." I'm disappointed in the experience, as had been looking forward to trying it out. But there are bars I like better, restaurants I like better, and all have staff who are happier to have us. This just isn't convenient enough to bother going back. read more

~ Lovely neighborhood bar that sits on the corner of North Capital & Rst. I love what they're doing with the entire Florida park corridor. My Grandmother has a house on Rst and I remember this used to be a laundromat. Felt good to relax outside and enjoy this place. I met up with a childhood friend for a quick bite and sips. Long islands are pretty pretty good. I only ordered a chicken quesadilla but the menu had some interesting options. Plus, I was table watching everyone's food when it came out. Lol. The quesadilla was cool. Nothing special tho. Service ... A+. We sat outside and there was only one lady servicing everyone. She was truly amazing. I received my food and drinks in a respectable time. I'll definitely be visiting to dive deeper into the menu. Parking is tough tough. They have this "permit parking only" on their streets. I came to The Pub & The People for brunch. It has a nice friendly neighborhood vibe and the outdoor patio seating area was a lovely area to have. The place seemed a bit understaffed but the service here was excellent and the workers were very attentive to our needs. I ordered the eggs benedict which didn't really stand out to me. The English muffin was buttery and the eggs were cooked well, however, the texture of the hollandaise was a bit thicker than I liked it (dare I say grainy) and the dish could have used a touch of overall seasoning. The potatoes were a bit bland and the texture of it was not the most appealing, it could have been better if they were a bit crispier. I also got a biscuit which was also pretty average, I wish it was flakier and had a softer inside, but, the whipped butter it came with was fresh and really elevated the dish. The mimosas were really good and had the balance of champagne and orange juice that I liked (it was a little on the stronger side but not too strong). This place has the brunch classics but it didn't really stand out much to me. read more

Neighborhood bar close to home. I found this place when I first moved to DC from NY full time almost a year ago. I was new in town and little intimidated because I didn't know where to go eat. As usual put Yelp to work as I walked with my dog. Saw this cute pub with outdoor seats. Many customers had their dogs with them too. That was a new concept for me. As NY isn't as dog friendly at restaurants even those with outdoor seating. Seeing as so many people were having a great time outside. Decided to take the leap with my dog. I ordered the Moscow mule which was soooo refreshing and made to perfection. To this day this place has to be one of my favorite places for a mule. It was brunch time so I ordered their chicken sandwich. It was fried chicken and it was a nice surprise that the chicken had flavor. Often times fried chicken doesn't taste like anything if not seasoned. I have been back many times thereafter and usually stick to usual. In one occasion I had the scallops for dinner. They were so yummy. I like how their menu is varied with options all around. Checkout the bathroom with all the doggy pics. So cute. Staff is always welcoming and courteous. Came with a few friends for Sunday Brunch around 11am. It wasn't too packed, but I can see this place getting really full when the weather is warm. The Pub & The People is small, but charming neighborhood bar. They have a few dishes and beers and mimosa from $4-8! Service is fantastic and the food is delicious. Plenty of free street parking on the weekends and after 8:30p on weekdays. Build your own omelette (spinach, onions, peppers, sausage, and avocado) - Omelette was very hearty and fresh! I finished mine in seconds. As an added bonus, they hide the avocado inside the omelette! Home fries were also seasoned perfectly. You can also always ask for a salad instead for an up-charge. My bf got the Korean Chicken and Waffles and that looked and smelled amazing! I highly recommend. The blistered shishito peppers were pretty decent and had nice flavor. Absolutely loved the Denizen GA Ave. It was the perfect sour ale in the hot weather. The individual in my party who had the Heidi stated it tasted very good. It comes with a side of fries. There is a limited weekend menu from 3-5 on Saturdays and Sundays. The only options for food during that time are: blistered shishito peppers; tempura cauliflower; crispy fries; and the "Heidi." Also, I saw that there is trivia on Mondays at 7:00 PM. I'm just visiting for the day but I will definitely come back and participate when I visit for a longer period of time. Friendly service as well! read more

Great food, service, ambiance, and affordable! Walked here from a friend's place on a cold Sunday after calling ahead for a seat near a fire pit. (FYI) there's a $50 minimum spend to sit at a fire pit, which between two people in DC is very reasonable. Service was great, fire was warm and cozy. This place is perfect for outdoor covid dining. The food was outstanding too! We split the brussel sprouts which were so crispy and well flavored. Also, the tempura cauliflower. YUM. And I don't even like cauliflower all that much. For drinks we ordered a hot toddy and hot bourbon cider. Both spot on. And came in cute, eclectic mugs. :) I also ordered a s'more which was DELISH. You get to cook It at your little fire. My friend ordered the crispy pork schnitzel sandwich. I had a bite, and It was out of this world! It had some Fuji apple on It that really balanced the flavors nicely. We got all that and drinks for around $60 which I think is super reasonable. Definitely can't wait to come back here, maybe for brunch! read more
