I arrived late into DC last night and walked from Union Station to the Phoenix Park Hotel (easy 3 minute walk) and then was hungry. I tried to wait at the bar to place my takeout order but waited for several minutes and could not get the busy bartender's attention (i was instructed I could only order at the bar). So i gave up and went up to my room and then called down with my order. The food was ready within the 15-20 minutes promised. My Dubliner salad was quite sparse with just a little bit of lettuce, lots of shredded carrots, and four slices of cucumber. But my "on the side" order was very delicious and a generous portion of pan seared salmon. The honey mustard dressing was very light and not so honey or mustardy like but still good, way too much dressing for the few greens! I wouldn't want to eat in at the Dubliner as it was very noisy and warm and crowded at 10:30pm. It did smell good though and I suspect serves a very decent menu of pub fare. read more

It's a solid pub with a solid beer selection. The staff were friendly and attentive. The curried chicken salad sandwich was something new to try and works. Super close to Union Station, especially on a hot day. read more

If you want an authentic Irish pub in the DC area, The Dubliner is the best. It's St. Patrick's Day 2025 weekend and we knew to expect a crowd even though we were going on Saturday, the 15th, and the actual feast day is on Monday. The place was packed! I time-travelled back to college, with jostling to get to the bar, sticky floors, and busy bartenders and wait staff running around. It was standing room only in the whole restaurant, with a few tables here and there. The Guinness Company must be happy. Some of their beer staff were there to do beer foam prints, which was awesome tech. Just a few yards from Union Station & the Capitol Building, this touristy Irish bar & restaurant has been in DC since 1974, serving cold Guinness and fish & chips since opening. Both of which were good standard faire, and we can say the same for the Salmon based Ruben and the Burger. Good wine & spirits selection. The pretzel bread was enough for two, but the Onion soup was not the best. Heavy on salt & bread, light on broth & beef flavor. In general the service was good, but be careful of the charges- as we got the bill there were added unexpected service charges that weren't explained, and a high. tip charge (25%) was already pre-selected for average service. Went here because it was connected to the hotel, and had late night food. For pub food it was pretty good- had dry wings with sauce on the side and the fish and chips. My favorite bar in DC! The Dubliner is an iconic must when in town for drinks, food, and live Irish music! Had, as always, a super time meeting my cousins and sharing The Dubliner with my visiting buddy! We had a late light lunch, so we chose to split a Shepherd's pie. We were each served this delicious half-portion in our own bowl, simplifying things. Nice! (Another recommendation of mine is their Monte Cristo sandwich, one of my favorites over the years.) As the designated driver, I also savored some alcohol-free Guinness Zero's, which I found just as delicious as their regular stout! The design of the pub is a mirror image of some of the great pubs that we visited in Ireland with Books of Kells windows, stained glass (part of the front door), traditional Irish music and decor design. We left. No food. No drinks ... nothing. We walked in and were told to enter the lower seating area. We found a table and several waiters walked by us. None even glanced in our direction. I was staying at the adjacent hotel and had vouchers for free drinks and I was tired so I decided to eat here. My waitress was attentive and the wine and then meal were quickly served. I ordered the Guinness burger. The waitress advised me that this was not a typical burger on a bun, but I had read the Yelp reviews and had been warned. The Guinness burger is served on a bed of hash brown potatoes, dressed with a sauce and finished with shoestring onion rings. It was cooked to perfection and was delicious! The hotel and restaurant are centrally located just a few hundred meters from Union Station and handy to the Capital, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and the Metro Red Line. We went to this bar three times during our visit to DC. The food was good and portions generous. The selection of beer and Irish Whiskey is great! Apparently President Obama had a beer at this bar but that wasn't the reason we went here. The bartender remembered our drinks and what we wanted each time we visited (great memory because the sinks were unusual) and the service was excellent. Very popular spot which was busy throughout the entire night. We waited for about an hour to seat the 6 of us. It was little smaller inside than I had pictured. The ambiance was fun, what you would expect from an Irish pub. I couldn't decide between the corned beef and cabbage or the fish and chips, so I got half order of fish and chips and a full order of corned beef and cabbage. It was okay. I've had better of both versions, nothing that I would have cravings for. Corned beef and cabbage could have been more tender. Fish and chips could have been a little crispier. Both portions were a little small. The real star of the show though was the Bailey's Irish cream cheesecake, that was pretty amazing (it was so good I forgot to take a picture of it). I ordered the Dubliner Salad with Shrimp (got the shrimp blackened). The blackened shrimp was very delicious. Unfortunately they were out of the Artichoke Dip the Sunday evening that I called. I was staying at the Phoenix Park Hotel and didn't feel like walking outside to pick up dinner so the Dubliner it was! I couldn't call through the "room service" number on my room's phone (as per the instructions in my room) or the "Dubliner pub" number on my room's phone so eventually I just called via my cellphone after trying a few times. Then, when I arrived, I waited 30mins for my order (after already waiting 20mins in my room) only to find out that my food took ages because they ran out of brussel sprouts that ordered. I can't believe the kitchen staff didn't tell the waitresses that that's why my order took ages. I waited so long awkwardly just waiting for my order. The day after, a few colleagues and I grabbed drinks here late at night (after a bunch of other bars closed already). Standard drinks and standard service. We came here on a Saturday night and the place was not too busy but we did have a little wait for a table. They put us right next to the live music so it was a little tough to have conversations. I decided to go with the reuben sandwich. The meal was overpriced for the quality of the food. The service was not good. The person would try to avoid filling up water but was fine letting people order more alcoholic beverages. This place also had a mobile point of sales terminal where you could tap the card right there but the waiter refused to split the check. So if you want overpriced food and drinks with terrible service probably the place for you, otherwise you can find plenty of other places in the area to go to. read more

Long time Dubliner visitor here: it was once an inviting hangout for food, drink and live music; easy to get to, with the bar always open. This is nearby Capitol Hill and Union Station, the bar draws a consistent government and commuter crowd, loud but not at all rowdy. Had drinks and sandwiches with a friend last night and I would have to say Covid probably permanently wounded this place. The lavatories were closed for some reason - in a saloon! This required wandering through a maze of corridors and doorways to use the facilities a floor up in the hotel that hosts the bar. Draft beer is draft beer but the sandwiches were flat out terrible which is too bad because Dubliner used to offer really nice meals. This drops Dubliner into the dive bar category but at a far higher price. Acceptable, but just barely. read more

It's a quintessential Irish pub, complete with live Irish music in the evenings. It was pretty quiet when I arrived around 8:30, but it filled up pretty soon after. Makes sense considering it's one of the few places in the neighborhood open late. I was extremely curious to try the salmon pastrami when I saw it on the menu. It was served with melted Swiss and cheddar on buttered rye bread. Altogether it probably took a year or two off my lifespan, it was tasty! The smoked salmon pastrami was definitely interesting. Tbh it was a little over-cooked for my liking. I think it would have been better with more of a lox texture, since this was closer to eating baked salmon on a sandwich. It was also a little salty. Solid food and kind staff. They have some nice patio seating. It's technically indoors as it's glassed in and heated but it has an outdoor feeling. I am dairy free so they were kind enough to check if the meal I wanted had dairy. When they brought out my meal they recognized that they accidentally brought out chips with my chicken sandwich instead of fries and they brought me out the fries in addition to the chips. The Fish and Chips I ate was fantastic. Fish was not overcooked and had good texture. The fries were steak fries that were right. Coleslaw was very good. I had the spinach and artichoke dip with the only draw back was the cheese ok top which was a bit too much.
