Severely disappointed. Should have realized it was not going to be good food when I walked in and saw it was a bar. Ordered a cheeseburger with fries but decided to get onion rings instead of fries. That was a 3 dollar up charge. I had ordered mayo with my cheeseburger and ranch for the onion rings. My mayo was delivered to me in mayo packets and the ranch was in a salad dressing packet. The food seems to be slightly over priced for the quality of food we got. Not coming back. read more

I agree w/Gregg S, one star is way too much. I visited here on a Thursday night because of the drink specials and figured I'd get a bite to eat also. I found a seat at the bar and after waiting 7 minutes (I looked at my watch when I sat down), the bartender finally came over and took my order - Strike 1. After waiting another 15 minutes, the bartender finally remembered that I had ordered a long island iced tea and proceeded to make it but under poured every alcohol which I questioned him on and he told me that "no, I didn't under pour" - Strike 2. My food arrived and I wasn't impressed with the bacon patty that was much smaller than my over cooked hamburger but I was hungry so I ate it - Strike 3. As I was eating, said bartender who made my drink, proceeded to make a Jack on the rocks for someone and not only did he make one complete pour, he made four and I want to know who orders a quadruple Jack on the rocks - Strike 4. Needless to say, I will not be spending my money here at any point in the future and I hope that the bartender enjoyed that 1% tip that he got since his service was so crappy. read more

The Mining Company has been around for as long as I can remember, and that's going back to the seventies. It's located at the front entrance of Kennedy Mall which guarantees plenty of traffic. I'm giving the place three stars for perfectly decent bar food with friendly service. But if smoke bothers you, don't bother stopping here - you *will* smell like an ashtray by the time you leave. read more

My friends and I enjoy grabbing a burger from the Mining Co. every now and then. It sucks that they're located in Dubuque's pathetic excuse for a mall, but once you're inside you sort of forget about that. Water and pop are served in mason jars, which I think is adorable, and the lighting is dim so it has a very relaxed vibe. The burgers are pretty good, especially the green olive/swiss burger. Just visiting the Dubuque area from Chicago, this is a typical local casual bar/grille nothing fancy, you seat yourself, menus at the tables, pop/water in mason jars and the food is good. Burgers a little small, fries are plenty, its an $ 8.00 burger, you get what you pay for. Games on TV, didn't encounter the smokey atmosphere others talked about but it was a slow Sunday night. A nice, old school place when you want to avoid the chains and just have a good burger. read more

Ice berg lettuce only cheddar cheese on every salad. Deep fried everything and fries or coleslaw. Nothing original. Thier signature drink the "Cave In" is one of the best drinks in Dubuque and is practically a dubuque staple next to the swamp water. Though fair warning unless you have a liver of steel don't order more than 2. Their low prices and great bar food is what keeps everyone coming back for more. read more

This place is great. Locally owned and been around for 40 years. Ate there in collage now the next generation is eating there. Try the cave in or long island ice tea served in a quart jar. Favorite burger is the western cheddar pepper burger. read more

I can't believe this place is still in business. I got my -what looked like- a 39 cent McDonalds cheeseburger and I was so deflated when they brought it to me. It is a burger. How hard can it be? Overpriced and very unsatisfied. I came with my husband and 3 kids and never left a restaurant so disappointed. I wish I would have went to McDonalds I would have been more satisfied. The service was forced. I think the good reviews left by people are either those whom have spent too much time drinking before they got their food or left by employees who do not want to lose their jobs. read more

Heard they had good drinks and the BEST burgers from a coworker, so this place had always been in the back of my mind. I finally decided to check it out- I wanted a cheeseburger and a dirty martini. The cheeseburger was as basic as one you'd get for lunch at an elementary school. No flavor, small meat patty, and sloppy toppings. My martini? Umm, well.. It was served to me in a coffee cup with my olive juice and an olive or two floating in an accompanying shot glass. Everyone that worked there seemed like they had just gotten their workers permit. My friend got the chicken nachos which were prepared in front of us with canned chicken warmed up in the microwave behind the bar-- poured over some nachos and nacho cheese and some salsa.. It was so sloppy we couldn't believe we were actually going to have to eat-let alone pay for it.. She finished her drink and we left.. They really need to do something with that place.. The menu is ridiculous. How they win Best Fest for best burger every year is BEYOND laughable. If you're that hungry at the mall, grab a pretzel and ruuuuuuuuun to anywhere- shit, Target has hot dogs, but seriously A N Y W H E R E! read more
