They've got quite the operation here. Order on one side, pick up on the other side. Lots of cute merch on the order side too. So many options, it could be overwhelming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun for the kids to watch the donuts get cooked and decorated on the pick-up side.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Pretty efficient system and service and not a very long wait. Love the S'mores, Blueberry Streusel, Peach Cobbler, and Oreo. Def more of a denser, cakey donut and they may fall apart when you eat them fresh out of the fryer. Def the opposite of a Krispy Crème (light and airy) donut so if you like them heavy and cakey, you'll love these donuts
Lets start with the fact that they shorted us 1 of the donuts we ordered. None of the woman fixing the donuts had their shirts ducked in, so as they worked on fixing a Doughnut their dirty disgusting t shirt would drag over a previous made donuts in our order. This is serious health violation and I can't believe I am the only one that has noticed. I ended up microwaving the donuts hoping to kill any germs left during the preparation. My maple bacon Doughnut was good, but the wife thought her donuts were just average. We won't be going back.
First time going here, and with friends who have worked at Duck donuts before. Rudest experience, and no care for severe peanut allergy. We had the pleasure of getting our order done my Heather N. who greeted the guest before us pleasantly "Good morning what can I get for you all?" and then us, a group of 4 girls, with "I'll take whoever's next" with an agitated tone. My friend, who worked there before, prefaced we had a person in our group that had a severe peanut allergy so that when ordering the fan favorite, we could have the peanut ones substituted. Thinking that was a simple ask, Heather then asked my friend to read them off one by one because she in her words "I don't know all the donuts on the menu". My friend then started to list off the donuts. She then said "slow down honey" my friend showed down, then "your going too fast" my friend slowed down even more. At some point Heather decided to take the menu from my friend, then to make it straitened out slammed it in the counter, I think to show how annoyed she was with us. We ask for a second dozen and she then does the same thing. My friends say again, nothing with peanuts because of the allergy. And we complete our order. We head over to the pick up area and then double check the receipt to make sure there's nothing with peanuts butter on it. There was in fact a donut with peanut butter in there. We went up to the ones preparing the donuts and they actually had it done, which was amazing but we had to ask for the one dozen to be redone. As someone who was really looking forward to trying my friend's favorite donut place, this truly was a disappointment.
I'm so glad we stopped here on vacation! The staff was very friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything was clean and they had lots of plates, napkins, utensils and hand wipes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The donuts were also amazing. They were fresh and I love that they're made to order. We absolutely loved these and will definitely miss them. My favorites were the cookie butter cream and the maple bacon!
Went to the location in Duck, NC in OBX. You order from a kiosk or a staff member. If you know what you want, use the kiosk. If it's your first time or have questions, order from the staff. Then you go back outside across the deck to pick up your order which they will call you by number. This is to help with the flow when they are very busy. Be ready for a sugar rush. When I got into my 3rd donut my face started to tingle. If you are visiting OBX they have several locations to choose from, you got to try it at least once. In my photos here is what I got. Staying in Nags Head but made the northward pilgrimage this morning to the original Duck's location. Really glad I did. Duck, NC is a bird sanctuary, no fireworks allowed, and is an incredibly charming place. You order and get your coffee/merch in one location, then walk a few steps into another building where there's nothing but the glorious production of donuts made to your specifications and served warm and fresh, right out of the fryer. The lady at the order counter was friendly and helpful, while the donut makers were less talkative, focusing diligently on their craft. I can respect that. Be sure to take a stroll on the connected boardwalk to take in the many great neighboring shops/restaurants and the gorgeous vistas of Currituck Sound.

This place is AMAZING! I left the OBX, NC to move here and cried for months about missing Duck Donuts!!! And just like that, Duck Donuts arrives in Bristol! Not too far either! I cried enjoying my donuts, missing home. If you know how it all started, you probably would too. Thank you for giving me a taste from home. Anytime I'm sad and homesick, I come here. Probably some of the BEST donuts I've ever had. I'm gonna dream about these donuts for a while. I highly recommend sitting down and indulging in your donuts as soon as you pick them up! My favorite was the Oreo donut from the barista box but no one complained about a single donut that was eaten and every one was consumed! Definitely recommend if you're visiting this area, they have locations all up and down the island! read more
Made to order custom donuts? There's not much you can do wrong from there! Don't act like you don't see that line! Yeah, it's that good. Hot, fresh, and amazing. I am SO down with this whole made-to-order operating model that it's not even funny. That said, this particular store's operations are confusing (pick your donuts up somewhere other than where you ordered them) but the payoff is well worth it. Id say, of all the places we went to in OBX this is the one you really shouldn't miss. read more
Worst hours, best donuts! I stopped by here one morning with about 5 groups of people in front of me and had a donut in my hand within 15! I love how they're freshly made but I wish they were open past 2PM'! read more

Oh my lawd am I glad we finally got to try Duck Donuts - and at their OG location at that! Duck Donuts has several locations now, some even closer to home and as far away as Puerto Rico...but on our trip to OBX, all anyone could talk about is getting Duck Donuts on our way home. We arrived around 9am on a Saturday and there was a bit of a line. They have separate sections for ordering and picking up but the line went quicker than expected. The donuts came out even faster and were piping hot, as promised! They were just as amazing as people said. And devoured within seconds. We've have other hot & custom donuts before, but these may be some of the best. The flavor of the donut base was incredible, and that's what made it special. It wasn't all about the toppings, it was a great donut too! Now to see if we can open up one of these back home... read more
A beach trip in Duck, NC would not be complete without some Duck Donuts! I absolutely love that we can customize our donut from the coating all the way to the drizzle! This allows me to go crazy and create my own concoctions which is always more exciting than getting what's pre-made! Next time I'll have to go over the top and do a peanut butter coating with a bacon topping and hot fudge drizzled over! Yum! Already getting excited for my next NC trip! Luckily, NJ has a Duck Donut also which I haven't visited yet but I'll have to check that out to fulfill my Duck Donuts craving for the time being! *Pre-Covid Times: One could go inside and view how the donuts were being made! This was my first time having Duck Donuts at none other than the original one in Duck, NC! The donut shop was adorable, and clean- they are expanding at this location but that side hasn't opened yet. You order your donuts on the left side of the building and pick your donuts up on the right side. You write your order in on these little cards to keep track of what you want, as the donuts are totally customizable- and freshly made for you! They are hot and fresh upon receiving them and omg they are delicious. My favorite one was the bacon sunrise, which is a donut with maple icing, fresh bacon crumble and Carmel drizzle. We love duck donuts so it was super fun to go to the original location. Because they are so popular you order from one side and pick up from the other. There is lots of seating and it is also on the Duck boardwalk so you can walk around and check out the area. The donuts were delicious as usual and I enjoyed my coffee as well. read more

Since it was my first time in Duck I knew I had to stop in to the original Duck Donuts. Surprisingly this was my first trip to a Duck Donuts ever! The shop is actually broken up into two sides of the plaza. The spot where they actually make the donuts is super small and the original location. Apparently the health department wasn't into how many people got crammed in there so the solution was to lease another shop in the plaza to take orders and have merchandise and keep the original shop as the spot where they make the donuts and you pick up your order The donuts were super tasty and the employees were super friendly! I went for a classic cinnamon sugar with glaze and it did not disappoint. My friends went with fancier options, but to me a simple classic is always best. I think it's neat to see them making the donuts and love that they are served up warm. I can see why they are an OBX favorite! read more

I waited until our last day to stop here! Yeah we have one where I live but nothing is better than having Duck Donuts in Duck! The line was long but moved quickly. Word of advice park somewhere else and walk! I got a blueberry lemonade donut that was custom with coconut topping! read more
Before opening my box, I was going to give them a five star review. However, I cannot after they messed up my order. The sunrise donut (lemon icing with raspberry drizzle) is my favorite. My receipt shows I ordered two, yet I got lemon icing with coconut flakes. The biggest disappointment because I rarely have the opportunity to go to Duck Donuts. The ordering system was very organized and the staff was friendly, but I am just so sad they gave me the wrong thing. read more

Whooooo man these are the best doughnuts hands down to exist. I don't think you could make a bad choice with the specialty options or the endless custom combinations you can create yourself. We went to the spot in Duck and ordering here was confusing at first. It's in a shopping center on the water. You order on one side then walk out and pick up on the other. These doughnuts are made to order so it does take some time, but you won't be disappointed once they are done. Still warm which you don't get anywhere else. It's truly and experience when you try one! No inside seating is strictly or to go. However there is some benches and picnic tables in the middle of the shopping center. They do offer hot and cold brew coffee but I did not try it, it seemed to be popular though. It's a little bit of a drive to duck from kill devil hills but worth the trip! read more
They open at 7 am-- plan to get here at least fifteen minutes BEFORE they open if you want to reduce your wait time. Though their process of moving the line along is as efficient as it can be to meet the demand. Apparently this is a regional chain that started in Duck but as I'm not from the area this was my first experience with the deliciousness that is Duck Donuts. Some folks have a hard preference for the crispy, fried donuts (ala-Krispy Kreme) over the cake-like donuts of places like Dunkin. Duck Donuts is the latter, but I challenge any of those cake-donut-naysayers to try these as your mind will be changed in a second. These are almost all yellow-cake style donuts only differentiated by their toppings...but the toppings make all the difference in the world (and that base-cake is about as tasty as it can be by itself anyway). My favorite was probably the "Bacon of the Day", a maple iced donut with fresh, crispy bacon bits. The fudgey chocolate-sauced ones were great as well. If you want a donut straight out of "The Simpsons", there are a variety (like the "Beach Ball") that are coated in sprinkles and bright. read more

For the unlimited options you can design your own donuts, this place rates a 5. Going at the off season is the thing to do. I can totally see the limited parking lot getting full during peak season. So, you order to the left at $16.25 per dozen; you can design your own by picking a topping and a glaze however which way you want or get some pre-designed ones. Then you walk over to the right side of the building and see your deliciousness get made. These are all cake donuts and seeing how these folks glaze and coat these donuts without making a mess wows me. Taste wise. Pretty tasty. I prefer the ones with less glaze and or toppings, but that's just me. The class cinn sugar is quite splendid. Will I get another Duck Donut again? Yes. read more
The Original Duck Deliciousness The one and only original Duck Donuts, you get exactly what you will expect you've been to a Duck Donuts anywhere else. The donuts are fantastically made and the variety is extensive. Do note that these donuts are more like cake than breakfast. We went to the O.G. Duck Donuts location this morning, and it definitely did not disappoint! So many awesome flavor combinations, as well as season varieties and boxed dozens there were ready for you to just order and go! Of course, you can't just grab donuts and go here, because all orders are made fresh. If there isn't much of a line you could be on your way in about 5 minutes. At this original location things are a little different. Walking in from the parking lot, there are two shops for Duck Donuts. On the left is the one where you place your order and can buy various Duck Donuts memorabilia, on the right, you pick up your order. They are clearly labeled, but the way the ramp is layed out tends to push you toward the one on the right which is the pick-up location. The donuts themselves, especially while warm... amazeballs. We ordered a wide variety and cut little pieces of each to share. Bacon maple are always a must, and the seasonal apple pie donut was a group favorite too. I like the oreo donut, but I also love me some Oreos, so no surprise there. Either way, you definitely need to venture over here and get Donuts from this OBX institution! read more

Not that Duck Donuts needs another amazing review, but my wife and I went here a couple times while on vacation and loved it! One of her friends suggested it and we weren't disappointed! The donuts came out to us super fast and we're so delicious still warm. It hit the spot for breakfast a couple different mornings. read more

As an avid Duck Donuts fan, I was super pumped to try the ORIGINAL Duck Donuts in Duck, NC (near OBX)! We got a huge order, and Duck Donuts Duck did not fail to satisfy! All the donuts are freshly fried and made in their kitchen in a separate building. The shop is part of a strip of stores built right on the banks of the ocean creating and nice outdoor ambiance. As always you have the option of ordering their classics, specials, or creating your own flavor combination. You get to choose a base, drizzle, and topping. We ordered A BUNCH of options during our trip and loved every single one of them. The staff was also super nice and accommodating with such a large order. When they accidentally forgot a donut and made two of another flavor, they gave us four extra donuts for free! I 100% recommend a visit to the historic donut shop! read more

This is always a must-stop when we are in Duck! I love that you can customize your own donut as well, but I'm pretty trusting of their menu and just customize one for fun. This place gets busy so be expected to wait... but it is worth it! read more
Soooo delicious. I suggest using their website to order ahead. I didn't realize this was an option and went and waited in line to order. The donuts are fresh and made to order. So many fun flavors. You can make your own or they have dozens with flavors they already specify. The line moves fast. Totally worth it and everyone in our house loved them. read more
Best donuts in the world. I have been coming to this exact location of Duck Donuts since 2010, when only two other locations existed. The donuts have held their integrity and all of the employees are always so helpful and friendly. If you want to beat the line arrive early, and if you can't avoid the line don't worry because it goes by SO fast! One reccomendation I have is walking fi you can because it is impossible to park in the parking lot. If you are driving from a town or two over, park at the waterfront shops or across the street at Scarborough fair, and make sure to walk around Duck after and show the local shops some love! Once you get to the front of the line, order the Oreo or maple bacon! If you are ordering for a group, check the box in the order slip that allows the employees to choose what donuts go in your box- they know best! read more

Duck donuts is by far my favorite donut place in the outer banks. I've been coming here for years. It's definitely worth the wait! They open at 7 but there's usually a long line so get there early. They have an assortment of favorites or you can build your own donut. They make them fresh so they're warm and delicious. Listen, visiting the flagship Duck Donuts in Duck is a must do! The donut concept if you're unfamiliar, is that you can make your own donut flavors or order off their pre-designed donuts. They make the donut fresh to order and they are warm! They're small donuts so you could eat two of them, but they are rich in flavor. They're the best warm too. I recommend eating a sweet one and then a salty one. Like I said, they are rich in flavor so go easy! The donut shop itself is split on either side of a type of deck- sidewalk that split the retail strip. The left donut shop is where you order your donuts. They have a paper form that you fill out and bring to the register to place the order. Or you could skip the paper sheet and just go up to the register to order. They have menus about with the seasonal flavors. There, you can also buy their merchandise. On the right side is where the donuts are made and handed out. You're given a number and you have to wait for your number and name to be called. It came out at a good pace for being very busy. If you like your donuts and Duck donuts is your thing, then all the chains are the same. But this one was fun as it was the flagship store. Had a really great time there! read more
Love Duck Donuts and had to get it from the original location. Although I do love a nice fluffy and airy donut, Duck Donuts does not disappoint with their more cake-like donuts. Since they're all customized it's always made fresh to order, so they're still nice and warm when you pick it up. This location has separate locations for ordering and picking up. They also have notepads out to fill out what you want beforehand so you're not standing at the counter trying to decide the millions of customizations you can do. You pick a coating, topping, and/or drizzle and it's all the same price. You can also check out their menu online to see what some popular customizations are. read more
