Yummmmmm! I know, I know EVERYONE"S been here. Everyone raves about it. They say "if it ain't Duck Doughnuts, it isn't a doughnut." Sunday. I'm hungry. Don't know where to go. Driving down the street I see this pizza joint and pull over. I also see Duck Donuts and realize I can get 2 first-time visits completed at once. While I'm waiting for my pizza to get ready I mosey on over to DUCK. It smells sweet. I'm not sure how the process goes so I hang back a bit. Then I tell the cashier it is my first visit and she explains to me everything I need to know. All of the doughnuts are a vanilla base. They are made constantly so you always get a hot one. You pick your glaze and topping. Everyday of the week they have a featured special like "Sandy Beach" on Sunday. "how many would you like to try today?" she asks. Just one. This place is oh so good!!! If you love a good cake donut, then go to some other place. But if you like AH-MAZING cake donuts, please make your way here like ASAP!!! I've been here about five times now and there is never a long wait. Not because they are not busy, I think this is due to the fast service and dedication of the employees. It's like they have an assembly line and every one is holding down the fort!! There is a drive thru and call ahead orders that are accepted via phone. I'm not 100% sure what it is, because this place has it together like no other. I have tried maybe every flavor they offer. Let's see: strawberry icing, lemon icing, maple icing with chopped peanuts (my favorite), maple icing with bacon, glazed, cinnamon, strawberry icing with rainbow sprinkles and vanilla icing with coconut. It's a lot!!! And today's feature is the Reese's donut. Now because I do not eat sweets often, these donuts can definitely trigger your sugar level beyond measure. It's good going down...every bite...but they are sweet!!! But it's a donut and you should have every calorie possible right? Right!! The parking isn't great at all, but these donuts are all that, so I'm sure you will find somewhere to park or make your way in without concern. This was likely the worst duck donut location I have been to lately. Me and my nephew were at the oceanfront and decided to stop by here on our way home. When we entered, none of the employees bother to greet us or say hello. The young lady at the register was nice enough when I asked questions. My nephew ordered 1/2 dozen donuts. The young guy making our donuts slapped them down into the glaze (no joke he threw them into the icing containers like he was angry that them) and soaked them completely. He didn't top 2 donuts correctly and I had to ask him to add the correct toppings. When we arrived home to eat them, they were soaked with icing and stuck to the box. Everyone of them tore when we lifted them out the box. We couldn't enjoy the donuts because they were too sticky and soaking wet throughout with icing/glaze. They were gross. As a Virginia Beach native I think that I can (possibly?) speak for the majority of us when I say that Duck Doughnuts literally never disappoints us when it comes to the quality of their food. It's always, literally, leg burningly hot when you walk out the front door and still warm by the time you're home and ready to eat them. An awesome perk since the last time that I visited is that they are now service milk. Alas, the milk comes in a cafeteria style cardboard box, but it's milk and I'll take it! Even though I'm not the biggest donut fanatic I still decided to surprise the family with some donuts in the morning. This place was absolutely amazing! I was greeted with a smile, the donuts were dropped into the oil right in front of my eyes, and the donuts were customizable. From start to finish, for 6 Donuts, I was in and out within five minutes! Once I got the hot fresh donuts home, it was absolute heaven. If you can I can handle waiting to let the donuts cool, it's absolutely worth it. Not much to say that hasn't already been said. The donuts are delicious. I drive 30 minutes to this location and its totally worth it. I have a Krispy Kreme very close to my house and I barely step foot in there anymore. Even their donuts fresh off the conveyor belt don't compare to these. Every flavor you get here is hot and fresh and there are so many combinations. Even with that being the case I always get the maple bacon. Prior to eating these I couldn't understand how bacon would be good on a donut but you absolutely have to taste these to understand how wonderful they are. The parking lot is a bit tight but such a small sacrifice for such amazing donuts. I was in and out in 5 minutes or so and my son loves watching the donuts come off the conveyor while we wait. I don't get it? I'm not sold on it. The donuts were similar to the ones you get at the grocery store that are in the white bag, covered in white powdered sugar. The service was kind of bad--it was pretty simple, only three donuts but apparently, was too complicated for cashier to get it right. Their hours are very odd. There are only a few parking spaces which can be a bit of a challenge considering the business next door hasn't opened yet! I can't imagine how it will be once that place opens. Like bacon and doughnuts? Try their maple bacon doughnut! To some it might be an odd combo, but the sweet and salty on top of a warm, crumbly cake doughnut is absolutely amazing. When it's fresh out of the fryer and then glazed immediately, it's heavenly. Unfortunately, if you go when it's slow, they may try to hand you off a box of cold doughnuts that were made a few hours ago like they did to me. After this place opened, I swear all of my custys (short for customers) at my branch would not stop talking about this place. "It'll change your life," they said. To which I would reply, "Yeah, yeah, sure." But then, one magical, rainy day, my brother decided to drag me (unwillingly) to this place. And man, I was angry --because of my whole "donut vendetta". When we walked in, the whole place smelled like waffles. Fluffy, buttery, maple-covered waffles of joy and ecstasy. I had to have a taste after this amazing smell enveloped my nostrils. I told the girl behind the counter to surprise me with whatever donut she believed was the very best. Maple bacon, with extra bacon. She pointed to the refrigerator and said to grab a milk, I would be needing it. By the beard of Zeus, after taking one bite of this thing... I was in love. Pure, unadulterated bliss. It was fresh and hot. I shoveled the entire concoction down before my brother's dozen even came out. Of course, I ran back in line to grab twelve more before we left. They were all right. I am SPEECHLESS!!!! I have heard from some locals about Duck Donuts but until today I had no idea why a doughnut shop could be so good. I went to Duck Donuts for the first time today and wow! They offered a two donuts/coffee combo. As a non coffee drinker, I was glad to hear that I could substitute a cup of tea instead. I knew that I just had to have a maple bacon donut and I asked the worker to make a suggestion for my second donut. Her suggestion was a cinnamon sugar drizzled with both the orange and chocolate glazes. It wasn't anything that I would have picked for myself but it was really good. The flavor of both donuts were out of this world! They were so fresh and practically melted in my mouth!
