Popped into DD for the first time and discovered a haven of deliciousness! I ordered a basic, glazed doughnut. There is nothing basic about this doughnut! I'm new to the doughnut style, it's not the light and fluffy yeast doughnut that I am accustomed to, but a slightly heavier treat - with a thin, crispy outer layer. The quality and freshness of the donuts was great--custom glazed right out of the fryer. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of cake donuts and they don't offer yeast raised. I will start this review by explaining that I am spoiled. Just a few short weeks ago, we were lucky enough to visit Duck Donuts at OBX. That experience outshines our visit to the Williamsburg location so much that it might not even be fair. This shop should be a replica of the other - plain and simple. We expected that to be the case anyway. What a let down! The shop is clean, the staff is friendly. And as far as donuts go, these are worlds better than the standard grocer style or even Dunkin Donuts. They are not, however, on par with their other location at OBX. Not even close. I'm not even sure how to explain this effectively but there are simply not like OBX Duck Donuts in any way. What a huge disappointment! Again, the shop is nice, clean and the friendly - and the coffee is tasty. But those donuts! Please fix them! read more

Delicious hot fresh donuts every time. This is the 3rd location I've visited and they have all been consistent. We had the blueberry, strawberry, lemon, vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon sugar and powdered. My toddlers devour the strawberry and I love the cinnamon sugar and powdered. read more

Ate there once when it first opened. The donuts or heavy cake like donuts. I understand some people like that type of donut. I do not. I much prefer the lighter less Brady typed on it. It's interesting to watch the donuts made but again the taste the product and the overall texture of the down it was not to my liking. However I understand some people like to have cake like donuts. I'm not one. Also because it was new at the time the lines thru put the experience were long and timely. The overall operation for checking out seem to be broken. I had seen reviews online since there was one near our hotel and we were on vacation I decided to splurge. The breakfast sandwiches were delicious with generous amounts of fresh ingredients. I ordered bacon as well as sausage. The addition of a bit of mustard took them to a higher level so they had flavor. I, also, ordered a half dozen donuts. My husband didn't care for them since they are a cake donut. I thought they were moist and yummy. I was given 6 different toppings. I have to say the cinnamon sugar was my favorite. I love duck donuts, as the donuts are large, made to order, and very moist. None of that stale, dry, gross store bought mumbo jumbo here. I only wish they had a bigger variety, but I'm very content with the flavored they have. It's a large glaze donut, you pick from a variety of icing flavors, and then you pick the toppings. Peanut butter with peanuts, yum. Maple with bacon, yum. I think I am sensing a trip in my near future. Love me some duck donuts. read more

These are the most delicious doughnuts ever! I am usually not a cake doughnut fan, but Duck doughnuts are fabulous. They are so incredibly fresh, made right there in front of you and then coated in the topping of your choice! I believe our favorites are the chocolate iced and cinnamon sugar! Get some and take them to Kidsburg (the park nearby) for great morning fun! read more

I'm not normally a fan of cake donuts but these are very good when they are fresh out of the fryer. Not so hot, when they cool. They tend to hold the oil in. I stopped in on a Sunday and received a friendly greeting. The service is a slower then normal but worth the weight because the donuts are each made to order. You can also create your own flavored donuts with their toppings. I would like to see more options for toppings in the future. read more

Love the concept. Hot, fresh doughnuts fried and moving along the conveyor belt as soon as you order, arriving at the frosting/topping station where each one is hand-dipped and topped to your liking. I won't go back to duck donuts ever again. I specifically used to go there for their maple bacon donuts that I would drop off for some lawn force meant officers. This time when I went there was maybe four tiny pieces of bacon on each doughnut and I commented on how they had really cut back, and all they did was say oh well everybody does it differently. That's all you really need to know, but go ahead and continue reading if you wish ;) There are no DDs up my way, so while in Williamsburg, I strolled my fluffy lil' self on over to this location. I've heard nothing but great things about this chain, and as a lover of sweets, I was intrigued... The girl at the register could tell we were new to DDs. I imagine we must've been standing there looking like two deer in headlights when she greeted us, "Hi... Are you new here?" That broke the ice right away. "Yes," we laughed, relieved. She then proceeded to kindly walk us through what they offer, and how to order. tbh I'm still a bit confused on the process, but it's nothing another trip (or two) can't solve :D HAHA. After a bit of confusion (and the girl's outstanding patience... bless her), we managed to order a half dozen with chocolate glaze. Figured it would be a good first DDs donut to try (though I'm still kind of haunted by the thought of the more "wacky" flavors I didn't try--but there's always another time). So now, the first bite. As soon as that deliciousness hit my tastebuds, I was in love. So waaaarmmmm and soft on the inside, the dough having a slight crispiness on the outside. The mouthfeel was so ADDICTIVE that I had a second right after bahaha. I sound like such a creep, "mouthfeel." But I don't even care, because it was the best thing ever. Seriously. Go to this place. Note: their donuts are best when fresh & warm. They lose their magic the next day and taste surprisingly average (though still good). Never let your first donut from Duck Donuts be a day old! ;) 5 stars for the donuts alone, 4 stars including the coffee. It was good, but you dispense, sweeten, etc. your coffee yourself. If you like doughnuts, you need to pay a visit. They are probably a little different than what you are used to, but just do it. It's worth it, especially if you have kids.
