I came here during a Sunday afternoon and order a honey vanilla latte ($7.5) with almond milk (+$1) and it was made in about 5 minutes. Grit Coffee is a quiet, peaceful coffee shop. They offer nitro cold brew and a hibiscus berry iced tea, which sounded great and I'll have to be back to try. I got the honey vanilla latte with oat milk. It was very smooth and not too sweet. It also wasn't scalding hot so I was able to start drinking it right away. They also have a "for here" option, where give you glass or ceramic cups/plates to use while there. In addition to the peaceful atmosphere, the furniture was comfortable and the staff was so friendly. She chatted with me about when they opened and the events that are sometimes held there (today was a thrifting pop up). read more

3.5 stars Parked across the road in the Rita's parking lot and walked over . Place has a very large seating area that is so quite you can hear a pin drop . It is furnished in a contemporary setting . The male barista was all alone and very slow . Taking orders and making every drink at a slow pace , didn't bother me but I'm sure it would others . The coffee is not my kind of coffee it is very strong , bold and has a bite to it . If you like that kind of coffee , want a quite place to study or read and don't mind waiting then this is the place for you . I wish Yelp would allow 1/4 star ratings so instead of seeing a 3 star it would show a 3 1/2 star . 4 STARS and a shout out to Grit for being a new indie coffee option near campus that is NOT Aromas or a Starbucks lol. I Yelped for coffee options while in the area and, turns out lucky for me, I was .1 miles away! Never knew it was there, hadn't seen it before on prev trips to W&M because it's sort of tucked away and hidden and you almost have to know it's there to know it's there - behind the shopping center with Marshall's, Sal's, Food Lion. Go back behind that shopping center and it's a tiny (1 street) town center-type area. In fact, you can park in that shopping center and walk to Grit (and the other retail places along that row) because they've built convenient access and walkways to get from the shopping center to that back area. Nice. I read the "About Us" story on Grit - started in Charlottesville near UVA and has locs in Charlottesville, Richmond and now this one. They're apparently the largest VA-based indie coffee chain. They roast their own beans (in Charlottesville). Trying to be the "local" indie chain to VA schools is my take. I was impressed when I walked in - VERY open, spacious, bright & airy with loads of natural light coming in from the large floor-to-ceiling windows all around. Loads of comfy seating and tables to work at. Impressive. (See my pics and vid.) I was there on a weekday, mid day - was not busy at all but a steady trickle of students coming in. SERVICE IS SUPER FRIENDLY. Not a long wait for drink orders either. (Can't comment on how it is when it's super busy.) The menu is pretty darn short. Super focused. I posted a pic of the menu so check it out. Prices are decent - lattes come 12 or 16 oz. I paid about $6 for the 12 oz specialty Honey Vanilla (hot) Latte that I ordered. No need to order an extra shot as the espresso is definitely rich and bold and not wimpy weak. Thumbs up on my hot Honey Vanilla Latte. I just wish Grit offered more specialty and seasonal options. That would go over well as they just had 1 specialty latte (Honey Vanilla) which is what I ordered. On nice weather days, there's a little public park area with lots of nice table seating catty corner to the shop as well as numerous benches sprinkled around that area to sip and soak in the sunshine and fresh outdoor air. A friend of mine had asked if I had checked out Grit Coffee in Wburg yet and in fact, I had not, so when I had made a cowork date with my work bestie, we went to Grit Coffee to check it out. - Parking - Street parking or there is a small free lot in the Midtown Row nook. - TLC - The barista was super sweet and super attentive to our requests. Great customer service. - Vibe - Very minimalistic vibe and clean. - Sips - We had had just had lunch nearby, so we weren't hungry, but could use a pick-me up at the time. My work bestie got a decaf mocha with oat milk hot and I opted for the strawberry matcha special iced. She seemed to like hers and I really liked mine! It was more on the strawberry side, but I still tasted the matcha. It was like a strawberry milk with matcha! Super tasty. This looks like a nice, little newly developed neighborhood. I am familiar with the area surrounding it, but when the GPS led me in this nook, I was surprised when I got into Midtown Row. Great combo of apartment buildings and businesses. I'm a huge fan of Grit Coffee! I love the Richmond locations and am obsessed with the Charlottesville spots. ***LOCATION*** This one is located in a strip mall near Lafayette st. in Williamsburg. There is a good amount of free parking nearby this coffeeshop. They also have bike racks to lock a bike to. ***EXPERIENCE*** Came here with my work bestie to cowork. I got a decaf mocha with oat milk and she got the strawberry matcha special. I found myself not liking my mocha as much as I usually do, maybe it's the decaf? Unsure, but it was still pretty good. My friend said her drink was heavier on the strawberry flavor. She still liked it. It's a very great place to get work done. It's quiet with a lot of seating options and natural light. The barista who served us was patience and funny. She matched our playful energy while ordering. ***PRICE*** Our two drinks were about $15. ***BATHROOM*** They have two gender neutral single stall bathrooms rooms here that have vacant or occupied locks. ***CONCLUSION*** I'm a huge fan of Grit and love seeing it in Williamsburg. THE BIG: Gorgeous big space in the heart of William and Mary. In a new mixed use area and plenty of parking around. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here on a Sunday and thought it would be a lil sleepy but there was a rush of people. With only one barista, she seemed overwhelmed. Regardless it took about 20 mins to get my drip coffee. The coffee is nice and artisanal, with lots of bright cherry notes rather than your typical burnt coffee taste. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall damage done for a large drip was around $3. Exactly what the coffee doctors prescribed. read more

Kudos to this local coffee spot for having full service hours on a Sunday! We were leaving town after a short stay in in Williamsburg and were looking for a place to grab something for the road (other than Dunkin' or S'bucks). Grit is easily accessible but there is limited parking, so might have to park in the nearby lot or across the street. We ordered ahead so didn't spend a lot of time inside, but it was moderately busy for a late Sunday morning. The cold brew was exactly what you could expect. Sharp and bright. The blackberry mocha had sweet chocolate followed by the berry notes at the end. A great local spot! read more

This is probably the best coffee shop in Williamsburg. It is spacious with a great coffee shop vibe, and it has plenty of tables -- both small tables and larger tables. The wifi is fast, and there are many power outlets. The espresso was very respectable (a solid 8.5 on a 1-10 scale). If I had one suggestion, it would be for this coffee shop to offer a larger selection of baked goods. But this is definitely a great coffee shop option for anyone in Williamsburg. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday morning at 7:40 am to get coffee before we got on the road. It's a holiday weekend too. No one was there. Doors were locked. There was no sign on the door explaining why it was closed. We were very disappointed. Oh well, going to Tipsy Beans instead :) read more
