When placing our order, the employee was confused as to what we were trying to order. We pointed out the picture of the ice cream sandwich at the front counter. She came around the front and was like, "oh my, I have never seen that before, they must have put it u0 last night. She went and got another employee, and this employee said the sandwich wasn't on the register amd management didn't show them how to make one. She also stated the scanning system wasn't working, but offered to give us BOGO still with either trying to make the sandwich or make a sundae. We said just make which you can make better. We ended u0 gett8ng the sundae, since they didn't know how to make the sandwich, but when we paid, we noticed we paid for the sundae price instead of the sandwich. A good, if not excellent, variety of donuts found here. Cake type donuts are made fresh, and oh so delish! Some good topping choices like blueberry and maple. What's so great about DD is customization. Who doesn't want to have their picks of toppings? Despite the popularity of this place and at various times the long lines, the staff are great troopers and offer great patience and service! Some day, hopefully soon, I will also try their coffee. Stopped in on a late Saturday morning. I've been to one other Duck Donuts location in the past. The main difference was the menu. When I went previously they had a little paper where you could mark off which donuts you wanted. Here they have a menu above the register but it's hard to read if your car back in line. They have soooo many different combinations and they also have a booklet next to the register with pictures and descriptions. We found that very helpful but we also felt very rushed ordering because we couldn't decide before we got to the ordering area. Otherwise the donuts were really hot and tasty. Duck Donuts missed the mark in just about every area. The staff was friendly enough but their high end boutique donuts are actually a bit smaller than a normal ones - the exact opposite of what I expected. They are also very dense like a cake donut which I happen to like. But what about providing some options in a custom donut shop? They also only come in one base flavor. i.e. No chocolate :( My 'made to order donuts were still very hot when they applied the toppings which meant that it just melted and slid off the donut and onto the bottom of the box. That would have been fine if I ate it there (before it had time to run). However, I ordered and took them with me. Though their mechanical donut-making machine was visible to the customer, the cooks faced the wall while they prepared you order, with you having to stare at their backsides. Compare that to any of a dozen other restaurants (Chipotle, Subway, Cold Stone, etc.) who prepare the food right there IN FRONT of you so you can watch. Again, a missed opportunity to make it a fun experience, watching them "create" your custom donut. Finally, there is the parking which is terrible in the entire area around the shop. I drove there just to try Duck Donuts and I had to walk several blocks to get to the store. That is no problem when the weather is good, but when it is not... ? Eating out (even desert) is as much about the experience as it is about the food, and Duck Donuts has a concept which is really intriguing. The guy at the counter couldn't seem to understand what I was asking for even though I was ordering things as they read from the menus In front of me! Definitely getting dinged for menu knowledge.... I tried three of the featured flavors. My first bite was of the Maple flavored icing topped with chopped bacon. The donut was very sweet. The donut itself is a cake doughnut. The maple icing is thick and opaque. I could taste the sugar as I bit into the icing. The icing thoroughly covers the donut. I would prefer a thinner maple glaze, instead of icing. For this reason, I can only eat one of these donuts at a time. The chopped bacon was actual bacon It was thick cut bacon. The sweet and salty contrast meshed well with the cake donut. It was an all in one breakfast experience. The second donut I had was another featured donut, the S'Mores donut. This is a classic s'more. Chocolate icing, topped with graham cracker crumbles and a marshmallow drizzle. Very sweet, very good! My third Duck Donut was the featured Blueberry Icing with Lemon drizzle. This is an upgrade to the regular blueberry cake donut. The blueberry icing was thick and sweet. The tart of the lemon drizzle is a perfect match to the sweetness of the blueberry icing. Overall, Duck Donuts is really good. It's the perfect dessert. It may be a bit too sweet for breakfast, but I could eat one every evening. The place was empty but so was the plaza where the shop was located, except for the apple store across from it. When I walked in the ladies said hello and that was about it. They didn't really give me that warm feeling of "ready to attend" type service. They wore their masks, so they were following COVID protection rules. The lady that was helping seem to just want to answer my questions and nothing more. I was wondering what was good but her answers were short and direct. I felt more rushed than served which is not good for a first time customer. Either way, I picked out the traditional glazed donut, a strawberry donut, and the famous bacon maple donut. I had no know idea that they made the donuts as you ordered them. That was nice to know, but I didn't see that until I received my donuts. When I was given my order they added the topping while the donuts were hot which made the glaze shinny and super drippy. It's an amazing look but I didn't wan to eat them right away because I figured I would get burned by the hot sugars. So, once I got home and the donuts cooled off I took a bite and I have to say they aren't you're typical donuts. They are more like a cake style donut, the dough is not like you're everyday donut shop. I personally wasn't a fan of the cake-like dough, neither was my wife. I will say the toppings were nice and the flavorful. The glaze was okay, the dough really soaked up the sugar. The strawberry had a nice touch of real strawberry to it. But the maple bacon was the very nice extreme donut. The bacon was crispy and had nice blend with the creamy glade, the cake-like dough just softened the chew. In the end, if you're into a cake-like donut you will like this place. The toppings are nice and the flavors (at least from what I had) are nice. As for the customer service, eh... I really liked that the donuts are fresh and warm. The flavor was fairly good, but I didn't really taste the toppings. That's a good thing because they got the order a little wrong. We ordered two donuts. The first was a chocolate glaze with graham cracker and a salted caramel drizzle. The second was a maple glaze with a salted caramel drizzle. It was a very slow time and there was only one person ordering ahead of us. We were a little slow trying to decide so by the time we ordered, we were the only ones in the store. I saw them put a white drizzle (marshmallow?) on the top of one of the donuts and assumed someone else did a mobile order or maybe the person that ordered ahead of us stepped out for a minute and was coming back. Nope, they called our order number and those were for us. I checked my receipt to make sure we didn't order a different drizzle by mistake, showed the employee the receipt, and said, "both of ours were supposed to have a caramel drizzle." The employee took the donuts back, added a caramel drizzle in addition to the white, handed them back to me and asked, "all better"? I'm sure it wasn't meant to be condescending, but that's how it came off. I'm not a total jerk so we took the donuts and left. Firstly I went in to order seasonal donuts I had picked out online, the girl didn't seem to know their own menu very well and I picked different ones to make the transaction easier. She wore gloves to take my payment, enter the transaction into the register and then used the same gloves to make my donuts which is just gross in general and especially concerning during a pandemic. Alas I finally get home with my donuts, I didn't order any with bacon, only to find one of my chocolate donuts had bacon under the chocolate! We are vegetarians and this is absolutely inexcusable and shows the unclean environment the donuts were made in. I've been to a different location once before. This location was clean inside and we went in the afternoon so it wasn't busy which worked out well. At a different location we were able to use a paper to pick our combinations and fill it out and give that to the cashier. At this location you are put on the spot with only one picture book of pre made combinations. They do have the menu on the wall of all the options but again for someone who doesn't go often it's overwhelming and with other customers you have to wait for them to finish with the book and that leaves no time to decide when you get to the cashier. Prices are expensive but that's expected Since you are getting a fresh and hot product. This location was out of forks.
