Good fries are hard to come by especially ones cook in duck fat. Overall the fries were 3-stars while the host/service was definitely 5-stars, averaging out the review to 4-stars. Host was very engaging, friendly and helpful. As for the fries, the top few fries were good, nice and crunchy- we had the truffle ketchup which was a strong burst of flavor. However the disappointing part came after the first few fries up top, the ones in the middle and bottom were soggy and appeared to be left over short end pieces. The soggy-ness of the fries were likely result of hot fries with trapped moisture from steam. Because it can't escape easily, the steam travels outward, hitting the crispy crust from the inside and softening it.

Worth the hype, addicting fries for sure! We got the Poutine with Duck Confit, two BBQ Brisket Sandwiches, and the Wings of the Week (Jamaican jerk dry rub with ranch dressing). The Poutine was salty, heavy deliciousness with the crispy duck confit taking it over-the-top...we demolished it. The Sandwiches were solid, with succulent meat slices. The Wings were hot and juicy, just wish the jerk flavor were more pronounced. Will definitely visit the OG location sometime to compare the two!

Unfortuntaley, we were a bit dissapointed by Duckfat Frites. Everyone told us we had to try it when in town. But in the end it was a little lackluster. The the poutine fries were just super salty. The one nice part was being able to grab our food and bring it to the brewery next door!

Duckfat Shack is located in a common area with Oxbow Brewery. The menu is limited, but they are known for their duck fat fries, so of course we had to try them. We also had the lobster roll and green goddess salad. The fries were crispy and good. The lobster roll was ok, but was not as good as others we had. It was served on a round milk bun versus the usual split top bun . The salad was ok but lacked flavor. It was all greens and not much of anything else. The small container of dressing was not enough for the salad. It is a convenient option near Oxbow, but nothing stood out.

I forgot I had been here a few years ago and my review holds true... insanely skimpy portions for the now even higher prices. This time I went with the small frites which come with 1 side and I chose truffle ketchup. The fries themselves are very crispy and the ketchup def had great truffle flavor but they cost $10.50 for a portion a small child would not be satisfied with. Stop skimping at those prices!

Definitely not the same quality as the original location. The fries were fried very crispy. So hard, both our forks broke while trying to pick up a fry. It was tasty but hard to chew on white a few occasions.

We picked the poutine, which was okay but nothing to write home about. Maybe expectations were too high given the hype. We sat in the garden area--very cute and relaxing, but there aren't many tables, so I can see it getting tricky when it's busy. Overall, a decent spot but didn't blow me away.

Grabbed food here when we visited Oxbow after reading a ton of recommendations, and I can see why it's so popular. We of course ordered fries and I also ordered a lobster roll. The food was ready in a timely manner and we were happy with the portions. At this point in our trip, I had some really outstanding lobster rolls, but this one also stood out. I was a huge fan of the corn relish that was on the roll and thought the lobster was really well prepared. We also liked all the different options they had for dipping the fries. Would highly recommended and would definitely come back!

I wanted to get out of the Old Port to see what was happening on Washington Ave. The original Duckfat always has a wait (40 min at 2pm this visit) so it is awesome to have the shack, with no wait at all! I was only expecting to get duckfat fries or poutine, but they actually had a lobster roll and thai chicken wings as specials. I had to try the lobster roll as well as the duckfat fries with a sauce flight. Both the lobster roll and fries were worth the walk! All of the sauces are good here, but I am partial to the truffle ketchup. Great vibes here, which I'm sure is even cooler at night, since Oxbow Brewery shares the space. There is seating both in and out.

Nice outpost at the brewery if you can't make it to their first location. Love Duckfat's poutine ! The sauces are made in house to dip your fries or sandwich in while chowing down on your meal.

The best outside seating to chat with your friends and share poutine (and perhaps beer next door)! Service was so quick and we demolished our food almost as quickly. The poutine met every single one of our expectations--sooo delicious. I might crave this forever.

Was a cute spot in the brewery. We got Chowder, Poutine Fries & truffle fries .It was decent. It's a bit pricey. We paid $50 for two items

Highly recommended: salt cod, foie gras truffles, pasta with guanciale. I had a smash burger (special) which was a bit too much -- needed one fewer item from the rich salty umami family of flavors, every bite good on its own but a LOT as a dish. Service was wonderful; my friend mentioned that she loved chocolate mousse but was too full for dessert, and our server brought us a to go portion as a bonus with the check. And it was awesome (topped with hazelnuts, sea salt, and a drizzle of olive oil, very good idea well executed).

We got a text reminder as well as phone call reminder leading up to our reservation. On the day of our reservation we were greeted with a warm smiled and directed to our seats. Since we visited on Thanksgiving Day it was a prix fix menu which included the following: -Bread and Turkey Jam -Winter Squash Soup -Chicory & Arugula Salad -Roasted Turkey Breast -Braised Short Ribs -Ilma's Maple Bourbon Pie -Pumpkin Budin This menu was specifically made for Thanksgiving so I imagine guests who have to wait until the next Thanksgiving to enjoy the fare. What I can say is that the soup was my favorite and the turkey breast was not in the slightest dry. The short ribs were my friends favorite and we both loved the pumpkin budin. Service was polite and efficient and te music was upbeat and lively, despite the restaurant emiting a dark romantic vibe. I'm really thankful that they had reservations available and that the food was delicious since many restaurants in the area were already booked out. Thank you Wayside Tavern for a delicious meal!

We liked it more than Scales which I think might be a less popular opinion. The ambiance was very rustic and cozy. Thankfully they moved us to a corner/booth which was very nice of them. Even in the corner it was still a little cramped which is my reason for not giving it 5 stars. The pasta dish with lobster in a red sauce was divine. Full of other seafood in addition to the lobster like mussels and clams too. It was definitely messy but the flavor was fantastic. Tons of garlic which we love. The octopus appetizer was also delicious. Very charred which normally I wouldn't like but it worked very well with this dish. The waitstaff was professional and helpful with menu choices. For a summer night, we found the menu to read more like middle of winter, with heavy food choices including steak, shepherds pie, meatloaf wrapped in bacon, and short rib. While the food is very good, I expected a menu with lighter summer options, maybe incorporating more veggies. Nonetheless, I ordered the short rib which was served over mashed potatoes and spinach. The piece of short rib itself was huge and very tender and flavorful. I was disappointed that they have decided to not serve bread with the meal anymore. It's bread. And for the price we pay for a meal, a few complimentary pieces would have gone a long way. Now, you need to pay for bread if you want it. I also wanted a small side salad with my meal, and not the entrée sized salads available on the menu. Our server was able to give me a bowl of Just greens dressed with their phenomenal vinaigrette dressing. It hit the spot. My husband had the flat iron steak, which he felt was good, but not great. The piece of steak itself was on the smaller side, and he was not a fan of the potato hash or parsnips. Again, heavy winter meal. He did order a side of the mushroom risotto, which was probably one of the best bites of the meal. It was out of this world! This was a good meal, but overall not a great meal. I hope they can pull it together. Maybe the lack of a full house at 6 pm on a Sat summer night should be a call to re-look at what could be improved.
