    Gluten-Free Lil Chippy
    Clay G.

Lil Chippy is a cute fish and chips shop. They are super gluten-free friendly and able to make a celiac-safe fish and chips. The food was fantastic and came out super quickly. My girlfriend was so happy that she could enjoy a delicious fish and chips.

Small boutique eatery/drinkery (fish-and-chippery) in the original Terlingua space on Washington Ave. Order and pay first, then they bring your order to the table. Simple decor. No gimmicks; no jive. -- Clam Chowder: Only one size (bowl), but you'll be glad to have that amount once you taste it. Very thick and flavorful base, and not only won't you have to send out a search party to find the clams, but I'd also go as far as saying it's the most densely clam-filled broth I've had in a long time. Bacon adds texture, flavor, and saltiness in the best ways possible. Potatoes are in there, but a bit player (that's a good thing). Plenty of peppery seasoning on top, along with oyster crackers that are surprisingly not Westminster-- closer to mini Ritz crackers, but with an Old Bay twist. Among the tastiest chowder I've ever had if not the absolute best. Elite. -- Fish and Chips: Long, thick piece of fish artfully draped over the fries--err, chips-- and skillfully avoiding a dunk into the coleslaw. Golden brown batter thick but light, with a crispness not quite reaching crunch. Extremely tender and flaky; adequately moist. Solid rendition, though the chowder is what I'll remember most. Chips a little over-crisped on some, just-right on others. Coleslaw much more tart than most, with not much condiment, but thick and creamy. Great first visit. Glad I got a chance to try it before the inevitable summer lines will make it tough to revisit, but I will.

    French onion dip

I love fish and chips and was really a lil let down by Lil Chippy. The fish was a bit too flaky and fragile, also overly salty. The French onion dip had true potential but it was oddly watery? They did have a short happy hour with 1$ oysters that maybe I would have enjoyed more if I took advantage of

So very good. I'd go back here in an instant. I got fish and chips, but their crispy frying makes me want to try every single thing on the menu. The silent star of the dish may have been the chips - by the looks of them, I thought they'd be too thick and soft, but somehow each one was perfectly crispity crunchity with just enough of a soft center. The staff was so kind explaining the sit and order process and took our order without hesitation even though they had less than hour 'til close. The ambiance was clean and warm and modern, not a ton of seating, but they do what they can with the amount of space and for two, it was the perfect lil dinner spot. :)

    Happy hour oysters

We were reeled in by the $1 happy hour oysters, which were solid, but the real star of the show was the fish and chips. This was our very first stop in Maine, and we intentionally waited until we tried a few other seafood spots before writing this review just to see how it stacked up. It definitely holds its own! Fish was fresh, delicate and delicious! Service was bit of no frills, order at the counter and they deliver to you.

Hopped in here for a quick oyster break, all oysters were so fresh and tasty! We also got the hamachi crudo with chili oil which was also very fresh and tasty. It was simple but really complimented the fish with the cucumber adding a nice crunch. This is cute spot for a casual seafood meal or snack. It's not an extensive menu but appears to be thoughtful. The only improvement could've been possibly more sauces for the oysters, there was only hot sauce and cocktail sauce not even a traditional mignonette or horseradish.

This place is always so good! And we went here this time for happy hour and it is by far my favorite happy hour in Portland. Never misses. Just get there early

Oyster lovers heaven!! We stopped by for a HH because we heard it was one of the best oyster houses in the area. Delicious, simple and the service is great!

The Fish Buddy was perfect. A great blending of flavors, pickles, slaw and horseradish. Perfect size sandwich. The chips were great, perfectly cooked. The size large was enough for 2. Staff was amazing. Order and pay at counter and our meals were delivered to our table. Seating filled up as soon as customers left!!! Great location, parking can be tough during busy hours, but definitely worth the visit!

Great little place with a casual beachy vibe. Outdoor seating available. Go for their happy hour-$1 Oysters. Can't beat it! The 2 sauces are delicious with the oysters!! Crab roll was super flavorful and the fresh crab was on point. The staff here is absolutely incredible!!!

I'm already plotting & scheming a way to get back to Lil Chippy ASAP for their gluten-free fish & chips. I really, really, really loved this spot. Enthusiastically rating them 5/5 stars! Firstly, the vibe was so cute. It was the perfect mix of hip & quaint, without trying to hard. It was also so sunny, cheerful, & casual, too. You place your order at the counter & they bring your food to your table. I pine for fish & chips constantly. Since I can't eat gluten, I can rarely satisfy the craving. When my partner found a gluten-free fish & chips spot in Portland, I couldn't believe my wildest dreams were coming true. Also not only were they gluten-free, they were SO GOOD! I've been dreaming about them ever since. If I lived in Portland, I'd be at Lil Chippy ALL THE TIME.

I was craving something fried so Lil Chippy seemed like the natural solution! It wasn't too crowded on a Friday night and I snagged a seat at the bar. I definitely appreciate a leaner menu and ordered the Lil Chippy. It took a bit to come out and seemed to take a little longer than it did for other patrons but not more than 15-20 minutes. The food was really good! The fish was crispy and flaky and the fries were solid as well. Recommend moving your fish off to the side otherwise your fries will get soggy! The homemade tartar sauce was also great.

Lil Chippy has (had) been on our list of places to try for far too long. We finally had the chance to try the restaurant and were extremely happy with the results. The staff was very nice and cordial throughout our entire service. The food was unparalleled. And the decorations around the restaurant were very cute!

We drove down the road a bit and sat at some picnic tables overlooking the harbor to dine. It was really windy, but I was happy with my bisque. They threw in a lobster roll bun for me at the last minute and that really was appreciated. It was so good and this might be the best way for me to enjoy lobster. The service is quick and the line backs up so you had better know what you want when you get to the front. The gals were efficient and friendly, what more could you ask for? Would definitely be back to enjoy this bisque again.

Footbridge lobster vs Lobster Shack review…read more Location: Footbridge lobster is located right next door to Lobster shack right by the footbridge. Seating: Footbridge js TAKE OUT ONLY with a big window you walk up to order and pickup. There are some benches nearby you might get lucky or you can stand by the bridge and eat. Lobster shack has seating and bathrooms. Price: On a Monday post lunch hour, I ordered the Lobster roll with clam chowder soup. Foot bridge is cheaper if you buy the combo outside of the lunch special hour compared to lobster shack. If you buy during lunch hour, they both are about similar in pricing. FOOD: The biggest difference between the two was TEXTURE. Footbridge offered a bouncy/chewier texture while Lobster Shack offered a softer easier to pull apart lobster. Secondly, the bread is slightly smaller at footbridge but the meat is 5oz almost singular piece versus lobster rolls multiple smaller pieces. Clam chowder was similar in the sense that footbridge had a thicker milkier consistency like most New England clam chowder while Lobster shack had more meat/substance but thinner liquid base with a somewhat coconut type taste. Both lobsters and clam chowder are unique and tasty in their own way and all boils down to preference. At this moment in time, I prefer footbridge for the lobster roll and the clam chowder at lobster shack. If I went outside of lunch hour, footbridge will be my go to for the slightly better price and less broken down pieces of lobster. If you don't like to chew - lobster shack
