We have been here a couple times. Staff was very friendly and enjoyable. Food was great considering it was a small town steak house. Steak was cooked perfectly. Salad was a little brown (and I'm picky on my salad) wine glass was very full :) which is how I like it! Mushrooms on the steak were not fresh. Would have preferred fresh vs canned. Please don't waste your money here. I got a New York strip steak ($34), ordered medium rare with a side of soup and vegetables. The steak was overcooked and not cooked evenly (it was cooked medium and also medium well in some parts). It also did not rest enough - there was a pool of liquid under the steak when it was served, a clear indication of poor cooking and that the juices were cooked out of the steak. The steak lacked flavor, and it was dry and chewy due to the poor cooking. Also, the "side" of vegetables was basically just two pieces of underseasoned steamed cauliflower. Not good at all. The soup was also served lukewarm. (It was also too salty and tasted like it came from a can, but the soup was still probably the "best" cooked part of the meal.) The service was also subpar. Probably because they know that the closest other steakhouse is more than an hour drive away. If you do eat here because you are staying the night in Sidney (like what I did), order a sandwich ($11-19) instead of steak. I'm sure the sandwich wouldn't be worth the money either but at least it wouldn't be as demonstrative as a ripoff as the steak. And I'm guessing it would be harder for the cooks to mess up. The only good part about eating here was that the money I spent went to support the (very) local economy. But I vastly overestimated the ability of a "steakhouse" to cook steak. Swung in on my way from South Carolina to Alaska because my dad remembered a steakhouse he ate at 11 years ago and said it was the best steak he has ever had and well I have to agree now it's a bit pricey but I'm willing to spend the money for a steak like this. Dude's is great. Its a steakhouse in Nebraska, and it delivers. They make look a little outdated, and the inside looks a bit worn in (hence only 4 stars) but who cares when the food delivers. I have had several cuts of meat and seafood and all have been fantastic. Cooked exactly how you ask and served quickly by a very family feeling staff. My only recommendation is to opt to not get the mushrooms on top of the steak, they aren't fresh so they don't add anything to the meal. I prefer a side of creamy horseradish for an occasional dip. The meat is prepared so well you don't need anything to enjoy it! read more

I love medium rare ribeye. This definitely ranks as one of the best rib eyes I've had. You need to dress it up with absolutely nothing it is that tasty and tender. Steak was pricey at $33 but worth every bit. Staff was friendly and efficient, dinning area worn but warm separate full bar from dining area. Atmosphere was like the clock stopped about 35 years ago. It was wonderful. It was the best Rib-Eye steak that I have ever had. Alright, the side dishes were just okay but draft beers are $2 ( and apparently less during happy hour) This is must stop when in Sidney, NE. Nothing fancy here....just a very dated restaurant that offers simple steak and sides and I mean very simple sides. Baked potatoes with butter and sour cream that come out of a small plastic container...yikes. Garden salad with iceberg lettuce and tiny croutons from a box. And yeah, my vegetables were frozen green beans, waxed and baby carrots that tasted like cooked frozen vegetables. I guess the only thing I can say is that the steaks were decent so do come check out Dude's if you just want to have a good steak. When our plans for dinner ran late then fell thru we found Dudes was open until 10pm. We went in around 9:40pm. The staff were welcoming and friendly even though the last of the previous customers were leaving as we entered. Not used to eating that late we decided to order something a little lighter but still filling. I got the French dip (prime rib on a crusty French stick with mushroom au jus) my friend chose the steak sandwich. Our salads were great. I had thousand island my friend had the blue cheese dressing, I liked his best. The food was delicious. My prime rib was very tender and tasty, the dip was perfect. When I asked for horseradish I was able to select between plain or creamy. Great horseradish as well. The steak fries were from frozen not fresh made, too bad because that would have really put the meal over the top. I loved the charm of the place, clean, well kept interior, music at a reasonable level. As I said the staff were wonderfully friendly and just the right amount of helpful. WE are from Indiana and made a 5500 mile trip across the country in the past 2 weeks. We stay in Sidney NE and the person at the Motel recommended Dude's. One of the best part of our trip. This is the one steakhouse I Minnis when I moved out of Nebraska. The mushrooms then they put on top of them steaks were to die for.

Well we ate here last year before we moved to Sidney, it wasn't all that, so hope this trip is better. With the closing of everything because of covid, I thought they would have at least learned how clean a booth. I had to swipe off the old debris and there's hard dried shredded cheese in the crease of the booth. We ordered the bloomin onion $11,00 which our server let us know it takes a bit to cook so she held off on our orders, so I thanked her Bloomin onion was tasteless and the source am dip wasn't all that either Next I had the prime rib steak sandwich $12.99 little tough, flavor was good and the sandwich was hot (temp), steak fries were crisp, so my dinner was very good. I had the caramel vanilla crunch something $6.00 it was cold, nice, it was store bought, ugh, canned whipped cream and horrible caramel. An overpriced under performer. We drove out of way to spend the night in Sidney so we could eat at this well reviewed steakhouse. Big mistake. We couldn't wait to get out of the place. Service was good but the food was low quality and nothing special. Rolls were cold and straight out the package. Vegetable was cold and unseasoned. The $25 fillet was tender but grilled like a pancake but not as flavorable - and served with canned mushrooms. The rib-eye steak was so tough that most of it was left on the plate. Went to dudes on November 5, 2011. This place was recommended to us by the hotel staff as the best place in town!! WOW BIG MISTAKE!! OVERPRICED!! LOSEY FOOD!! First of all let me say when we first opened the menu I wondered if they had to ship the beef from iowa because it was so overpriced. ( I am from Iowa Excellent Beef There and a sirloin at our steak house that is excellent is only like $15.00 dollars) A sirloin was $28.00 at Dudes. Well we where there so mine as well get something so we ordered sandwiches by the way which where on the menu for $12.00 dollars. The beef on the sandwiches tasted very very old and almost to the point of rotten and so tough you couldn't eat the food. (by the way my husband has now been ill for two days because he ate about three bites of his sandwich) My husband called over the server explained the problem and they did offer to remake the food but seriously would you want remade food after experiencing that. So we declined and they told us we owed $5.00 dollars for our drinks!!! What the ****!! So we paid for our drinks and went to Perkins. Food was 100% better so was the service and the staff!! The Mountain Oysters were very good. We were told that the Beef Ribs came with 5 bones/ribs and we got 3. They were on the small size and very fatty. The baked potato should not have been served. It was Luke warm with cold cheese and bacon with cold butter and sour cream in plastic containers on the side. This is a come as you are kind of place. Dude's is a vintage small town 1950's or 60's steakhouse. A jewel. Steaks are grilled to perfection. Its busy with local customers. One of the best places to get a steak in Western Nebraska or Eastern Colorado. Period. Don't expect great sides or spectacular main dishes apart for the awesome steaks. Love this place. My wife and I had a great shrimp dish. The restaurant was clean, staff very professional and FRIENDLY. We were seated by the kitchen and the owner/chef came out after we were served. We had quite a conversation with him. Clearly he was passionate about the business, the service and quality of the food. Food was prepared just right. I am a shrimp lover and most places either cook them to well done or on the undercooked side. Have you ever been the last table of the night? You know the a-holes who come in when all the waitresses and cooks are tired and ready to go home? Well tonight my sister and I were that table and instead of the usual cold shoulder you sometimes get in these situations the wait staff and cooking staff were very friendly. We both ordered steak and shrimp and our food came out very quickly and the steaks were perfectly cooked! Along with some conversation with the friendly staff it was an excellent late night meal one of the best I've had in awhile. Although dudes is pricey if you have the extra money for a steak and a good tip it is worth every cent! P.S. if you are in the area and can't stay late enough for dinner go in for breakfast! Not a bad restaurant. It is off the beaten path for travelers. It suffers from the same dilemma as the rest of the restaurants in Western NE...flies. Flies are everywhere and they get into the restaurants. If you want a steak, it will either be Dude's or Buffalo Point. Both have a decent steak. Dude's will be more expensive and you'll have to go into town to eat there. I decided to try the special, which was a burger with steak on top. The steak was very tender and flavorful. However, the burger part of it was extremely chewy and dry. My wife had the plain burger. Her burger was dry as a bone, too. The decor is older and they have a tv playing the county's keno game all the time. Very easy parking, too. If Buffalo Point is full, try Dude's. It's a further drive into town, but not that much further. The waitstaff seems to do a good job. read more
