Great place for good, simple but delicious food. It smells a little like a grease trap, but that doesn't mean you can't get anything healthy here. There is a wide variety of salads and sandwiches to choose from on the lunch menu. I have never been here for breakfast, but the menu looks good. Always fresh ingredients. We have our favorites at Dudley's for breakfast & lunch. They have the best pancakes ever even good to zap up the next day. The Vege omelette is delicious with a touch of their spicy salsa. When you order their burgers/fries To Go, the aroma in your car is scrumptious. And their Cashew Chicken salad is to die for. This is a great locals spot with affordable, decent food and very casual, comfortable service. The type of place that gets to know their regulars, speeds orders through for business diners and accomodates special requests (like substitutions). We asked for dressing on the side and they brought two huge soup-sized bowls of it. They have free wi-fi and a bar for single diners. Just a cute mom and pop place with comfort food (think tuna melts, club sandwiches) and always feature a quiche of the day (usually ranging from A-ok to delicious) and a soup of the day. Chili burgers are recommended (not by me, by mi madre). Drawbacks are a limited menu and breakfast ends at 11 a.m. (I always forget). This was a first time visit for me, I had business in Salinas and I asked the business owner of a good spot to eat in the area. He actually recommended a different place that was unfortunately closed when I arrived so I did a quick search and saw that Dudley's was close by and I thought what the heck, I'd give it a try. They say everything happens for a reason and I was pleasantly surprised and pleased that everything worked out the way it did. I will admit I was a bit sticker shocked at the cost of my burger of choice but I was famished and when it arrived my concerns were set at ease as it was the most juicy, delicious burger I think I have had in a long time. It is definitely on my list of places to return to the next time I am in town and to maybe try something else on the menu. Old school style diner. We saw Dudley's a while ago but it was late and they were not open for dinner. But on 11/27/13 we were able to go for breakfast and it was really good. We had the eggs and sausage (links) and pancakes. The hash browns had a nice crunchy brown side. The sausage "snapped" as you bite them. Really good pancakes. Came in today tuesday morning. Wanted to order breakfast, the waitress grabbed my fathers menu flipped it over and informed us that we could only order lunch. Very rude but we were hungry So i was like ok watever ill try lunch. First off the waitress was hovering over us waiting eagerly for us to order. We were obviously still looking at the menu. She left us came back not 2 mins later still expecting us to be ready. We purposefully took our time. I finally decided on a tuna melt the waitress took our orders and left. She came back gave us our food and did not ask if we needed anything else. The food itself was sub par my tuna melt was dry and salty. The water i asked for tasted like tap water. My review is based on the food and the service because I've never sat down inside, I always get my food to-go on my way into or out of work. The service is amazing, it's like a classic dinner place from the movies. A career waitress that calls you "hun" as you walk in and never forgets a face, a buncha old people that have probably been going there since the place opened, and a bar to sit at with the built in chairs that swivel a bit. The place is a tad on the smokey side but not from cigarettes or anything of that nature but from the grill. So I had found a hair in my omelette and told the waitress about it. The cook comes out with my plate and it just looks like they took some of the ham & peppers off the egg and heated it up more. My partner and good friend of mine didn't fully enjoy their food. It wasn't terrible, but I feel like we should of waited for First Awakening's. I ordered from door dash, two breakfasts. Haven't eaten here in a long time. Thought I'd give them a shot. The eggs Benedict came lukewarm, and only recieved one of the two breakfasts I ordered. I tried to flag down the delivery driver, can't blame the restaurant for doordash delivery I guess, and he just waved and drove away. I called them and the girl said she didn't know how to refund my order since I ordered through door dash. I said can I please just get what I ordered and paid for? I suppose it's on it's way, but hubby said it wasn't very good so I'm not really looking forward to it now. I took one bite of his, still waiting for mine to come, but the delivery driver must've not had a box to keep it warm. Lukewarm eggs Benedict, at best, are NOT appetizing. Once again, a doordash problem, but..... Just called, almost hour later asking where my breakfast was, as my hubby already had his, he offered to share since he really didn't care for it. The lady, who was nice, said it left there 15 minutes ago, I live minutes from them. My friends and I used to come to Dudley's to support local businesses; despite the fact the place is a somewhat of a dive grill. However, a select few of the wait staff have been consistently inappropriate and rude. For instance there was an empty table available and the lady said " no you can't not sit there" and she did not explain why. Then a minute later a white group of ladies walked in from the street and sat down in the same table; the waitress did not say anything and ignored us. On another occasion we got the same waitress ;( and tried to place an order and she said that meal was going to get us more fat and advise us not to order that meal. Then she pointed at my male friend's stomach. We couldn't believe it. Maybe the owner needs to be more aware of this going on and maybe contact - RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE FOR HELP :). SERIOUS. Screw this place! Would give negative stars if I could. Ended up going to Sangs because after being told to sit anywhere. Waiting 5 minutes for menus they finally came. While waiting ten minutes for someone to come back and ask for our order. A table of 4 was leaving the restaurant when a staff member stopped them and told them they forgot to leave a tip on the receipt because they had paid credit and they had to tell him they left it on the table. After that I was disgusted and disappointed with the service and especially how the previous family was treated we walked out and walked right over to Sangs. My family and I were going to First Awakening but this place caught our eyes we walked in like 10 minutes after 11 (time they stop serving breakfast) we found out because when I ordered OJ my server (who by the way would not stop calling us sweetie) cut me off and said we're no longer serving breakfast. So I said ok that's fine so I ordered an Arnold Palmer instead. Everything was going great until a Caucasian family came in like 45min after 11 and coincidently sat beside us and when she ordered an omelette the same server looked at us through the corner of her eye then looked back at the lady ordering and said you could have an omelette but only with fries as you're side. We went into this Diner just before 11 am and had no problem ordering breakfast. The problem was we had to wait over 35 minutes for two simple breakfasts and while we waited we watched others being served who came in after us. When the plates eventually came the food was cold and tasteless and one plate had the wrong order. The hash browns, scrambled eggs, potatoes were utterly tasteless, no seasoning. The sausage was the cheapest sausage you could buy. Simply put, the food and service was terrible. The two saving graces of this place, the décor is nice and they were constantly refilling the coffee. We did complain about the time taken for the food but we were simply ignored. Having an interesting beginning of the day starting to walk all up and down main street looking for some good food: deli, Mexican, or diner-American. So Walk in Dudley's half hour before it closed and all I can smell was fresh bacon and hamburgers, so I sat at the end of the front of the counter near the kitchen. I'd ordered a cheeseburger with bacon with everything on it (no mustard or ketchup) and small bowl of chili. Perfect hamburger nice size Patty with just a little bit of fat on it and the burger didn't even fall apart to the last bite (A light toast on the buns). With bright chili some carrots inside now I know why, It has a very light kick to it so here my suggestion go don't ask for any hot sauce; It will ruin your taste buds and your stomach. It's a excellent burger compare to fast food place probably the best burger place in Salinas. Heck they have sigh painted on there window that says that too. But just to give peoples a heads up: this a old diner, dive-place with the beautiful Mariol on the wall of Salinas, A place that I'll go back too. read more
