This place has been in business forever. I used to eat since the mid 70's at his place. Never had a bad meal here The breakfast was always my favorite. I don't care if it was the pancakes plain or fancy, o the french toast, or the waffles. They were always so good. The owner was always present and he was always so friendly and made sure all his guests were well taken care of and that they enjoyed their meal. Something you rarely see anyplace these days. Hidden Gem!! There is nothing like the veggie omelet!! They use whatever fresh, locally sourced veggies they can find and load it up with delicious cheese. This place is gross. I could hardly eat because of the dust and grime. The picture attached is of the wall next to my seat. If you're ever visiting Salinas, you have to stop by Dudley's Oldtown. I've visited this restaurant about four or five times in my life. I love the service there, and I especially love the food served for breakfast and lunch. I recommend the chili omelet. The chili and eggs just melt in your mouth. "Best burger in town" I don't think so! I've been there for breakfast in the past, it was fair for an average cafe. Today the place I wanted to eat lunch was closed for the weekend and this was near by so I decided to drop in. Can't say the place is real clean but they must pass city inspection since they are still open. I decided to try the burger because the menu said "the best in town". What I received was an over cooked, dried out piece of hamburger. No juices or color to it other than brownish grilling. The bun wasn't soft and seemed to be just pulled from a plastic bag, to say it was day old would be generous. Not toasted or anything. If they had buttered it and put it on the grill for a second or two that would have made it passable. So just a bun, meat, lettuce, tomatoe and onions...there you go. The fries were crispy and pretty good but made me think of reconstituted potatoes. The taste at first made me think they were cooking fish in the oil as well. The coffee was weak. The waitress did refill my coffee once, then dropped the bill on the counter and that was it for this visit. No more for me! read more

I went to this place when I was on a break from jury duty. I ordered a hot roast beef sandwich, what I got was a sandwich with roast beef slices, cheese and long green chili peppers that looked as if it had been run through a toaster oven. Definitely not a hot roast beef sandwich. There was no roast beef gravy on it, and I have never heard of nor seen green chili peppers on a hot roast beef sandwich. My father and I stopped in for lunch and had some decent sandwiches. I was even entertained by a small puzzle. My club sandwich was served with 2 segments stuck together with toothpicks. When I reached for a section of sandwich I realized that the cook had forgotten a piece of bread making 2 quarters of a sandwich into 1 half of one. The waitress was nice and apologetic about it. Came in for lunch. Greeted by friendly staff. Ordered coffee and water which arrived promptly. Coffee was satisfactory. Not burnt. I ordered grilled cheese ,fries, and a side of fruit. I was pleasantly surprised when I bit into the sandwich that it was cheddar cheese instead of American. Fries were nice, crispy, and tasty. I had not been here in a while. I know cost of living goes up but for the amount of food they serve the prices are a bit too high. Location is good as far as being in downtown area. Parking is a bit hard to get if you go for lunchtime; so try to arrive with enough time . Customer service was okay; service was a bit rushed. She gave us bill without asking if we needed anything else. As far as interior design setting is ok but boy seating and floor area seems dirty and a bit outdated. I was drawn my the title of "Best Burger in town" painted outside the location, and after I walked out, I couldn't necessarily disagree. For as long as I've lived in Salinas and as often as I frequent Oldtown, I was both surprised and disappointed in myself for not visiting many the great spots that have been here longer than I have. One of those is Dudley's. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly waitress and quickly seated. Of course I ordered their Burger, which quickly prompted the waitress to mention they also had the best fries in town. What's a great Burger without great Fries, right?? She spoke the truth! The Burger/Fries combo was unbelievable. Meat was cooked properly, the sizing of the lettuce and tomatoes was just right (some places exaggerate on the lettuce or give you a super thick slice of tomato *points at Red's). The fries were, simply put, phenomenal. At first bite I knew they were among the best I've had. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, smooth to the bite. Just how I like my fries. Food aside, service was great! Everyone there was very friendly, they seemed very determined to make sure your experience was fantastic (spoiler - it was) and there is no doubt I'll be returning there next week, and maybe the one after that. read more

I been going there since 1992. When the other people was running the place. I work very closed to them. All my employers wore coming often. But Today I was running a little late. I walked in the restaurant at 1. 53 and was told that they closed at I ask the lady at what time that they closed, very rudely told me at 1.50 a just walk away. I would really like to give this place 4/5 stars because I enjoy the food and I love supporting local business but the multiple times my fiancé and I have gone multiple times and just about every time the waitress is rude she checks on everyone but us and takes people's orders that arrived after us. On several occasions they will just leave the receipt on our table without saying a word. Dudley's is hands down the best breakfast spot in town. My husband and I come in at least once a week. Food is always good, prices are great (average cost for 2 cups coffee and two breakfasts is $20-$25 for us) and service is friendly. They make a very lemony eggs Benedict served with you're choice of fruit, country potatoes or hash browns. I like the daily double with French toast and bacon. However, the place smells like a total grease trap. I don't know how often they clean out the kitchen but it is not enough. I am talking gaging while walking by. I actually bought a can of mandarin oranges for the friend that kept wanting to go here so that he could satisfy his craving without having me throw up in my mouth a little bit. Please please please clean out the grease trap. Install an air freshener. Open all of the doors and windows. But they see "young kids" (I'm 29 my brothers 24) and they assume either a: we're gonna be dicks, or B: we're not gonna tip shit so why bother? ....food came...she asked if we needed mustard/mayo... Brought said accouterments... Left.... Dropped the check 2 mins later.... Picked up my brothers plate when we were sitting and talking just because I guess he hadn't shoveled it all into his mouth.... Like seriously we were talking enjoying our conversation and all that jazz... So to not be rude to each other (our mom taught us very well) we do not talk with our mouths full.... And this chick TOOK HIS PLATE.... Yea he only had like a few bites of fries left and I think a bite of burger.... But um... He WASN'T FINISHED!!!! ...I'm a very slow eater so I had like a full portion of fries left and a few bites of the last half of my Sammy left.... And she came back and tried to take my plate a few mins later.... To which I stopped that operation.... And a look passed of "what the bloody f*ck?" between my brother and I that I think she caught.... Because she NEVER CAME BACK... Never offered to refill our waters.... Saturday brunch, I ordered one of their specialties and my favorite breakfast Chicken Fried Steak with country potatoes and toast. I think their CFS is one of the better ones I've had locally. Portions were adequate not huge but I think that's better than a gigantic portion. My daughter had a BLAT bacon lettuce avocado and tomato, and enjoyed it. The best part were the french fries! Wow!
