They do have a variety of different types of food here but we came here to try the donuts specifically. I do have to say they were nothing special, reminds me of Tim Hortons actually. So I would give them a 5 star just for the donuts! As for the rest: Fried Chicken ( 3 stars ), too dry and the crust is too thick for my liking, its my personal preference, I am sure the ones who gave them 5 stars for their chicken has their own preferences. Vietnamese Sub ( 3 stars ), the bread was not toasted enough to get a crispy crust, but the fillings were adequate, not outstanding but was ok. I've had their donuts a few times but only recently did I actually visit the restaurant. In my ranking, their donuts are far above Tim's or most grocery store donuts, but comparable to Lucky's and not quite as good as Lee's. For me, a little bit of that classic deep-fried taste in a donut is great, and these are just a little too much. But I REALLY liked the thick maple frosting on the maple glaze donut I had on this visit, and it was still warm which was really nice! I arrived just before noon. As for the other food, I had a Scrambled Egg Torta and a Thai Bubble Tea. I was really surprised that they have bubble tea, but I guess people mean it when they say that they've got everything. I tried to order the Durian, but they were out, so Thai was my second choice. I would assume it's just from a mix of some sort (the consistency is uniform rather than layers or swirls of condensed milk and tea), but it was still not bad at all. If they do use a powder for flavour, I couldn't tell - it wasn't at all powdery. The pearls were okay, some were a little harder in the middle than I like but I do personally like them very soft, so I'd still say these were passable, especially at this price and considering they're not even a specialized bubble tea shop. The torta was really good. Makes me nostalgic for food you'd get at old-school American sub shops. The cheese scrambled into the egg was very nice. A little on the greasy side like you'd expect, but not too much. I liked the inclusion of banana peppers. All around, I don't know of anywhere that can compete with this place in terms of price vs what you get. It's good comfort food at very good value. The person who helped me and the others I was with was very friendly, but the service as a whole seems like a mixed bag. I didn't see any staff that was outright unpleasant, but some people definitely do not care. The whole restaurant could use more attention to hygiene. It wasn't quite as grimy as I was expecting from some of these reviews, but there were a lot of flies in the eating area, which is probably because, from the looks of it, they rarely clean, and there were lots of crumbs on tabletops and the floor. A friend wanted to visit this place ,even after I said it was ok for a donut but avoid sandwich choices. He wanted to try so he got a meatball sub. The counter person insisted it was not spicy...it was just a lie. He got a chicken sub it was also spicy and horrible. About 5 cents of dry hard chicken... it was a insult. We ordered: Machaca torta (mildly-flavoured, needed hot sauce; the meat portions were modest -- don't be fooled by 7-year old photos on Yelp!) 3-piece spicy chicken and fries (Crispy, tasty, well-executed) Pupusa (bean, cheese, pork) with Cole slaw, salsa (a bit mild for our taste; cole slaw [mayonnaise rather than vinegar] and salsa [a bit like warmed canned tomatoes] were wrong) Donuts: a banana-filled (very fresh, mildly-flavoured), a honey dew, an apple fritter The place isn't much to look at inside -- it's a donut shop -- though they did have a football match on the tv. We have ordered their chicken and it was literally the most delicious chicken we have found anywhere in Vancouver. As dessert we often order 1/2 dozen of their donuts which beat many other places that sell donuts. For example Tim Hortons and a few bakeries we have purchased donuts over the years. There are several good things about this place. There are some things that could improve. I would give it 3.5 stars. First, I was hoping for crispier chicken. Unfortunately, I was served pieces from the warming encasement, so they weren't that crispy/fresh. The donut I ordered also tasted like it was a bit too firm. Having tried crispy chicken at Juke's, Church's and Downlow, it's hard for me to say that Duffin's chicken compares. If it were fresher, it'd be better. However, the prices are quite good. Also, they have a good selection of food. They have beef and chicken tamales, soup, sandwiches, etc in addition to the chicken and donuts. Came here today to order some food for my family and I. I ordered carne asada torta , chicken terriyaki torta and cheeseburger combo with no onions and pickle. Terriyaki Chicken Torta First bite into chicken teriyaki torta, I had a mouthful of onions...there is also no teriyaki chicken taste. Duffin's is the beating heart of Vancouver. An institution. There's something for everyone here, even if at first glance it might be a bit overwhelming (or concerning). Obviously the donuts are fantastic, but the fried chicken and sandwiches are also consistently great. Drinks are pretty solid, you're not getting any fancy coffee but the bubble tea, smoothies and Thai tea are amazing for the price. Last thing I'll touch on is the atmosphere. The restaurant feels like it's existed forever, without any updates to the aesthetics, but that just gives it a cozy, familiar atmosphere that's pretty hard to find in the rest of the city. It's 330 am and I am starving. Food choices are limited, and I am not into fast food. My friend suggested Duffin's. Open 24/7. So happy he did! It was nearly empty and we had no wait. The lady who served us was extremely nice and patient with us I couldn't see with out my glasses and my friend was just indecisive. I remembered the Torta sub I had before. I couldn't remember what it was called, but when I described it to the lady she knew exactly what I was taking about. I am super ultra picky and I hate most things that are usually on subs or sandwiches. I asked what came on it, and When I told her what I didn't want on it, she was totally nice about it. I also ordered a bubble tea slush. It was a fresh fruit one, half strawberry & half watermelon. With half pearls and half jelly. My friend ordered a different Torta, and a Lychee slush. He also selected 3 donuts to take home for later. We had a short wait, so we sat down. The drinks came up first, and WOW how delightful was it to taste the fresh fruit ( not a powder ) . The tortas were finally ready and we didn't even make it a block away before we had to try them. OMG!! The bread was the perfect amount of crisp and soft, slightly toasted. The meat was cooked to perfection. Avocados were ripe and tasty. There was no onion, no tomatoes, no mayo and only a slight bit of banana peppers to give it some added flavour - it was PERFECT !!! I really believe Duffin's has the best fried chicken in town. Their fritou chicken is the bomb! Whenever I come here I always get the fried chicken and some donuts....doesn't get any better than that! This place is open 24 hours, and at certain times it can be quite busy and their can be a bit of a lineup. They have tonnes of other stuff, sandwiches, tortas, tamales, pupusa's etc. You order at the til and then they call your number when you food is ready. Decent number of seats unless it's really busy. This is pretty good tasting chicken but two things about it ruined my expectations. One, it was not fresh and hot. Two, I had the spicy version - it reminded me too much of KFC. I had nothing to do on Canada Day morning and decided why not go to Duffin's to see if they're open. Thank god it's OPEN! This time I tried chicken sub combo (around $8) with my sister. After ordering we got a number while waiting in line. Service was fast. Sandwich was good, but not amazing. Chicken sub itself is $4.49 which is little more than TK sub and the sandwich bun was dry. I was hoping it's crispy sub instead of dry sub. Fries were so delicious and fresh. It was same like the ones I had last time. They're just as good as ones from Costco. If you want something more cheaper they sell hamburgers for $3.75 each. Coffee tasted okay, too bitter even with sugar and milk in it. I didn't finish it in the end. read more

I woke up from a nap around 1am, feeling a bit peckish. look to yelp for help finding something other than McDonald's that's still open in my area. So setting the app to "open now" made me discover some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. I first saw a batch sitting under the heat lamp and was hesitating but soon enough more chicken was added that was perfectly fried and not oily. $7.25 gets you a wing, thigh, breast and drumstick. there is no need for sides or sauces here. The wing and thigh were the best at absorbing the flavor with the right amount of batter. There's nothing exceptional in the recipe. It's simply good because they fry it well and serve it fresh and hot. I also had one of their thin steak torta sandwich which was fresh and cheap. $4.76 I took a couple of donuts for the next morning and they were still fresh and moist the day after. The ambiance at night is remarkably subdued for a 2am crowd. People are here to have good food I guess, not nurse a hangover. This place a neighborhood gem!! I hope they never close. Coming here is always a different experience, you will literally have people in pjs, clubbing outfits, work clothes, and just a all around entertaining time lol. The fried chicken is the show stopper here. The burgers are good here too. The donuts are always a hit and the staff will always let you know if fresh ones are on the way so if you are willingly to wait a lil bit they will get you warm fresh donuts. The staff are hilarious and friendly too. I'm not sure how many times I've walked into Duffins late at night with a group of friends or my significant other and just had a wholesome convo with the employees. 24-hour Donut place frequented by police. They serve Mexican food, Chinese food, Vietnamese food, Western food, Donuts and bubble teas. Their Donuts have been a Vancouver institution, having been around since they used to be on Main and 33rd many decades ago. But, 30 years ago, you'd be able to get a dozen for $3. Now, the price is much higher. Interestingly, regardless if you order a chicken burrito, chicken Vietnamese sub, or one of their chicken "Torta subs", they use the EXACT SAME chicken filling. Their Donuts, despite being their claim to fame, now fall short of the benchmarks in Vancouver such as Cartem's and Lucky's. A bit too dry, a bit too doughy and not exactly inexpensive make them a tough sell. In fact, I'd rather have Donuts from Safeway as theirs are better in every regard. Their Fried Chicken is good, especially their spicy variant. Sort of like a poor man's Kentucky Fried Chicken. And, the aforementioned Torta subs are great; featuring your choice of meat, avocados, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. I haven't found another place serving this type of sandwich. We were in Vancouver for a week & Duffin's is super close to where we were staying. Each day, we made promises to come here for a late night snack, but each night, we'd get lazy and fail to fulfill that promise. On our last night here, we were heading home and made it a mission to at least stop & check it out. The parking lot was packed and each table was filled with people enjoying chicken and other fried goods. There was a fast moving line and we quickly scanned the menu and decided on getting the "3 piece with fries" combo and added on a side of gravy. When we got to the front, we realized it was CASH and CA debit card ONLY! Uh oh...this was bad news for us because we had just spent all our CAD during dinner because it was our mission to get rid of it all. Our total was $8.90 and luckily I had $9 loonies in my purse! Sooo glad we made a pitstop here because that spicy fried chicken was the shizzzzz! It was so good! Crispy, seasoned & tender. The gravy and the seasoned fries were good too, so good that we slattered that gravy on our chicken too. Wish we had more money for more but we will definitely come here again next time we are in Vancouver. Ok, so my co-worker has been raving about the fried chicken here. I was skeptical because...well, aren't they a donut joint? I came to try the chicken anyway.
