This is the Original Duffys! My FAVORITE local bar. I have been coming here for years! At least twice a week when I lived in Miami. Now I have to drive 4 hours to get my fix. Worth it! My go to is usually always the chicken salad sandwich with a side of onion rings and a shock top to go with it. The beer specials are so great and on Mondays they have buy one get one and $5 burgers. They always have a good specials going on. The food is always made fresh and the environment is very pleasant. This is a cash only place! They do have an ATM so that helps. Plenty of seating available although I prefer to sit at the bar. Jimmy and Joe are my favorite bartenders They have been there for so long and it doesn't feel the same without them there. They truly make the whole experience unique. Can't forget the guy with the funky chef pants! I am a fan of Duffy's. I come to Duffy's nearly every week for a Toastmasters meeting. The owner and staff are the best. I had come to Duffy's a few times before I started visiting regularly for my weekly meeting when I did not live in Miami. I came when I visited a friend who lived in Coral Gables (it was his neighborhood and favorite bar). I also ate and drank here a few times when I lived close by in South Miami, the first year I lived in Dade. I have probably eaten here about 40 times now (a little late for my review, eh) and I have never had a bad experience. On the contrary, all my experiences have been good. Heads up, this Duffy's is not part of the chain and it is family owned and operated. They must have predated the chain. The atmosphere at Duffy's is super relaxed. Duffy's is the kind of bar you grow to love. I have had a lot of meals here. The burgers are very good and a typical bar burger on the higher end of that scale. Duffy's does a really good job with fish. I usually get blackened grouper or salmon on nearly every visit. Duffy's has an outdoor seating area as well. Deceptively there is plenty of parking. This is a very special place for the many locals that frequent Duffy's Tavern. The family that owns and operate it are the loveliest people and they make kids feel warm and welcome. Bacon was tough, cheese was not what i ordered and not melted. ordered a medium burger and it was red as a lobster. mushrooms uncooked and they forgot my onions. ordered buffalo wings, they came plain and burnt. they said after they didnt have any buffalo sauce. Went to Duffy's tonite with my wife and 6 year old kid. Been going there since I was 19 which was the drinking age in 1984. Duffy's used to be great but the place has gone severely downhill. It used to be a real bar. it had a bar feel and character. It had a personality. Now it's just a kichy restaurant with a small bar. Over the years the owners took out the pool tables, foosball, and jukebox that made the place fun at one time and replaced them with as many tables they could cram in. That was the beginning of the end of Duffy's as I knew it In its heyday when Thursday and Friday was so crammed with UM students, you could barely move inside. As the place I once loved and partied at from 19 until my mid twenties slowly morphed into a cheaper version of a Flanagans, I still kept going because at least the wings and burgers were good and fairly priced. The beer was good even though the owners order the staff to leave a hefty head of foam in your glass or pitcher. By the time the foam disssolved away it was like two beers were missing from the pitcher. Ive never had a cheaper pour for a pitcher than here. Once in my early twenties I asked the bartender to please fill my pint to the top because ia third of it was foam. He looked at me in dread and said that's how he was ordered to pour a pint. I then asked Jimmy, one of the owners about the shitty pour and he gave me a long angry speech about how thats a proper pour in Germany. I never said another word about it and kept going because the beer was still cold and the food good. Tonite may be last time i go there. The food sucked. The once great wings were not so great And super overpriced. The menu said $10.95 but the bill came for $14.95. The waiter said the menu price hadn't been updated. The $4.00 price increase for ten shitty small shitty wings is ridiculous. The once awesome burger was terrible and smaller than it once was. Where they used to form their own patties, tonites looked like a commercial patty. The broccoli cheese soup was watery like they poured water in the soup to stretch it out or something. Again, I got a shitty pour on the two pints I drank. However this time the shortage on the beer was annoying Because the food sucked. RIP Duffy's. it seems like the quest to squeeze every ounce of profit from this cash only place (no credit cards). place costed you on the quality end of your product.. But I digress This is a typical tavern or pub with typical food and drink. For the vegetarian, they do have a veggie burger. That's about it though. But when the mood strikes this is a place I think of for the burger fix. Even better, on Monday's they offer the $5.50 burger special. You really can't beat that. The fries are always hot and crisp too. They have a full bar and offer a good selection of beers on tap. The Happy Hour is great. Monday-Friday 3-6pm they have 2 for 1 specials. If I could leave 0 stars, I would!! It started off okay, the server did nothing to show any hospitality, it took a while to even put in my food order but when I did I never saw the woman again. I came here to enjoy myself but then we had a male server who had nothing to do with our table stand across a booth and stare at us for a while. When I had asked to leave and bring boxes that same male server only brought one when I had asked for three. I asked for the other two I needed and he brought extra small containers which is where I drew the line. He then tried to pick my table up over my head and I had to tell him to get away from me, the man wasn't even my server it was a woman. Jimmy, did nothing to help and prioritized whatever was going on in the bar when I was visibly upset. I had complained to jimmy three times. I wish I was able to speak to a manager because this is not how you run a restaurant. Very very disgusting. Very disappointed. I'm warning everyone when I say do not come here !!! Also, the male server brought my bill, it was not itemized, it was written on a piece of paper that I owed $69 and I just had to believe it. This is a very unprofessional establishment. This is the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. The only good waiter there was the woman because the other man is very dry and the other one was drunk. This place is cash only so when the ATM was used it charged $3 for checking the balance and $3 for ATM withdrawal. Then, when we received our bill we were going over the receipt and there were wrong drinks charged. When we asked the waiter he grabbed the receipt is a very rude way and gave us horrible attitude. He said that in their system, gray goose and Tito's is charged under gray goose. This was very confusing and only god knows if that's true or if they charged us more for what we drank. Went to Duffy's Tavern with a few friends after work. We were hanging out for several hours, ordering several different appetizers and drinks throughout the night before ordering burgers. The atmosphere was eh. There were barely any people in the bar or at the tables. (I cannot speak about the small number of tables outside because I did not see anyone out there.) There was no music playing until we played the jukebox. The female bartender was certainly shooting us plenty of looks as we were singing, laughing, and having fun. It certainly did not make us feel welcome. The fries with cheese were probably the best thing we ate all night. They were perfectly seasoned, crispy, and a generous portion. We also had a few orders of the boneless buffalo wings. They were just okay. The special soup of the day was Manhattan fish chowder. That was inedible to all. What we were really looking forward too were the burgers that everyone raves about. Nowhere on the menu did it say that the burgers were served with mayo on them yet it did specify that it was served with lettuce and tomato. I tried masking the mayo but couldn't. I tried taking off the top bun where the mayo was. That didn't help either. Because of it, I only ate half. As for the drinks, the beers were served cold. Anything served on the rocks were very small. I am not a big drinker at all but my friends certainly made plenty of comments about it. This was my first time here and I had originally only heard good things. I am assuming that things had changed because it was nothing compared to the hype. I am not sure that I will be back.
