I've been here about 6 times now and have yet to be disappointed. The first time I go to a new coffee shop, I like to try a plain latte or americano so I can get an impression of the espresso. So I had a double latte my first visit, and it came in this big beautiful white mug with just the right amount of foam and the perfect ratio of milk to espresso. Overall a very smooth mouthfeel. I'm also a big sweet tooth, so I also judge a coffee shop on its pastries. So far I've had a blueberry muffin, a triple berry tart, and a raspberry linzer cake (spelling?). The muffin was your typical muffin; not bad at all, but nothing to write home about either. But I love the triple berry tart because it reminds me of eating a slice of berry pie. The linzer cake is also delicious, definitely a close second to the tart. It's almost like a spice cake? I'm not really sure how to describe it, but if you're craving something sweet, it's a good option. I've also had the iced coffee 'cold brew', which is a nice alternative to the latte on a hot day (basically 3/4's of the year in ABQ!). Overall, this shop has a nice atmosphere. It's a small shop, so seating can be hard to find at lunch time, but it's clean, fairly quiet, and the staff is always very helpful and friendly. very nice cafe space, I had a cappuccino and tried the much reviewed breakfast burrito and both were delicious. I sat outside for a while, Lead is a bit busy and loud but quiet inside. the counter person was so very nice, I was not in a hurry but my food order got lost and she apologized and offered me a free coffee, from what I can see from the other patrons the food is typically fast! I had been meaning to get over here for a while based on the great reviews which are well deserved and it is a good coffee shop. read more

Charming little coffee shop (with an emphasis on LITTLE) on Lead just west of Harvard, on the edge of the University district. Check them out for another local alternative to the mermaid empire. The place is frequently busy (so a good sign) but their lack of seating at rush times sometimes is a bummer. There's about twenty seats inside and they've got a couple of tables outside too. Their burritos are tasty, they've got a small pastry case, a nice but limited selection of non-coffee drinks in the fridge, and they will do you a cappuccino bigger than your head. read more

I went to Duggan's at about 10am on a weekday morning while doing some homework. This cute place offers extremely friendly staff, great morning drinks, and pretty decent food! If you're around UNM/CNM, this is a good place to go and sip on coffee or go grab a quick bite while you study or hang with a friend. I ordered a dirty chai latte and French toast. This came to a whopping $11 though- might be slightly outside broke-college budget. The French toast was good though! 2 smallish slices of brioche bread with 4 blackberries and a humongous strawberry for about $6. Chai latte was about $3. Plus tax and you're over $11. I love the atmosphere here- you get a blend of business people, college kids, the "regular" older guy that visits to have a coffee and read the paper, yogis, and dogs! (Outside seating of course for the dogs). I love this place and they are very lovely. I will definitely go back. read more

Far and away the best cafe in the UNM/Nob Hill area, one of the best in the city. Great coffee and consistently excellent food, diverse clientele, but the staff is the real standout. Duggan's is everything I've been looking for in a coffee shop. Only a couple minutes outside of UNM, this charming mom-and-pop provides a great homey atmosphere to chat with friends or work/study alone. The coffee is wonderfully rich and their food is always freshly made. After talking to the owners, Kevin and Mary, I found out that all of the drinks and food are made by the married couple themselves - even the beautiful pastry items in the display case. I would definitely recommend the OpEd breakfast burrito. Also, the two owners are so friendly and helpful, they'll come to you if it looks like you need a refill. The positive experience I had at Duggan's made me laugh at the thought of returning to Starbucks for my next cup of joe. read more

Form follows function. The theme here is anything but hip and trendy. Who cares when what they do is so good. The Genesis of the news themed menu options is from the owner's family history as printers in Kansas. It's a cool story and explains the myriad periodicals in the place. Not a wide variety but it's a cool aesthetic. Food tastes great! The Op-Ed (breakfast burrito) has wonderful Chile and is enough for a medium sized breakfast. A bit pricey though. Coffee is fine. Nothing special but this isn't a specialty place. They do their coffee well. read more

As a student at UNM, I come here regularly. I normally only go in the mornings. I've ordered the breakfast sandwich and the burrito, which were both spectacular. I normally order a mocha, but I have also gotten to try their medium and bold roasts, and an iced coffee. Nice people. Good food. Wifi. Power. Good coffee. I had the pancakes with bacon. Pancakes came with a few blue berries and a beautifully sliced strawberry. Two pats of butter and lots of syrup. I cant tell you how important these two things are. Real butter that melts and ENOUGH syrup. Would have been great if syrup was warmed. The pancakes were big, I couldn't finish them all. So I was driving by on Lead to go to my new usual coffee house haunt when out of the corner of my eye I caught the sight of this little hole in the wall coffee spot. I'm used to driving by this building and seeing piñatas hanging outside next to the laundromat. I was hesitant to go in but decided, wth?? Upon entry, it's clean, modern with track lighting, boldly painted walls, with beautiful tile behind the geometric inlaid wooden coffee bar. Service - immediately warm and inviting with jazz playing lightly in the background. I ordered my usual Americano and wasn't disappointed, there was a beautiful head of crema coating the top. The menu is limited which is great because if it's a coffee house it should focus on the coffee and that seems what Duggan's is about. There is limited seating but plenty of individual tables with easily accessible outlets to hook up your laptop. The wi-fi is smooth. Overall, I'm happy to have found this place in my peripheral vision, I'll be back. Oh, and despite being by the university there isn't many obnoxious uni students waxing bougie about their philosophy classes in overly loud voices - for that alone I already love Duggan's and hope it stays a neighborhood secret. read more

This is the best coffee shop I have ever been to, by far the nicest in the UNM area. What struck me first when entering the small establishment was the neat and aesthetically pleasing furniture arrangement and the placement of the counter/bar. At first glance, the prints hanging on the wall seemed tacky, but after taking in the style and content of the restaurant as a whole, I immediately came to appreciate their purpose. While I waited for the single customer before me to finish their order, I perused the West-facing wall. On the wall hung two maps (one was a world map, the other of America). The maps had pins in them around many world locations. The purpose of the pins and maps inspired my immediate curiosity. I ordered a double espresso neat. The counter staff was the most courteous and personable of any barristas I have encountered in Albuquerque, and took my order with vigor, professionalism, and carried it out with remarkable style and poise. He was quick to offer me a pin to place on the map, marking the location of my birth, which delighted me. He also offered me a glass of icewater with lemon, which is a touch that literally never happens at other local shops. I sat down to enjoy my espresso, which was served in an appropriate espresso cup over a plate. The espresso was as good as any in the UNM area, but the inital impressions of the place and the quiet background chatter of other patrons created an ambience that allowed me to enjoy my espresso more than I have ever at other locations. I was further delighted when the counter-staff (who I assume was one of the co-owners) came to my table to mildy chat. The only negative thing I can say about the place is that it has limited business hours. Overall, my first experience at this restaurant was superb, and I absolutely recommend it. read more

Just perfect. Perused the generously laid out daily newspapers at the counter as my affordable 1 shot americano ($1.80) was prepped. Awesome perk of the day..literally...he threw in an extra shot of espresso since he was pulling it anyway. Next time I am going to bring the whole fam (all 3 of us) for a real breakfast and I'm trying that pancake plate for $4! A really cute café in the University Heights. When my partner and I went there, we tried the Columnist (a green chile-potato tart) and devoured it. We also enjoyed the chai lattes. The café is close to UNM campus, but be prepared to dedicate time to getting there if you're walking. read more

Delicious coffee. Sensational cold-brew. Customer service centric - bright eyed, welcoming, and aim to please staff. The best espresso in the UNM neighborhood right now, hands down. I think their coffee is locally roasted by Fatboy Roasters and the owner that I met was very nice and talkative. He said he wanted to create a place where people could talk and discuss world events and politics without fighting, like he did in coffee shops in the 60s. This is a quaintly cute coffee spot nestled in behind UNM's cluttered, popular space. My latte was terrific and it was nice to be able to choose between a 12 or 16 ounce mug rather than being given a to-go cup when staying in. Their breakfast burrito, with bacon, hash, and loads of green chile, was excellent. Make sure to get it with an egg, it's $1 extra. I made the mistake of not ordering it with egg. I sat, ate, drank, and hung out for a solid 2-hours. In those two hours (while reading), I noticed that the interior space is very cozy and warm, and the staff is incredibly personable, helpful, and nice. I will be coming back here soon! read more
