She's an ABQ native, so I had to follow her lead :) The vibe is very hipster, I honestly felt like I was in Berkeley, so it was definitely my kind of place. FOOD & DRINKS They offer made-to-order crêpes. My iced lavender latte was very good, and I also ordered a breakfast burrito with green chile. I love New Mexican chile, and this one was spicy! I could only finish half and I think 1 was good to share. They also have several self-serve black coffee options in large carafe dispensers, which I thought was really cool. But they do need to check them more often, one of them was empty, and my husband had to let them know, so it seems like they don't monitor them regularly. My husband enjoyed his dish, and my friend and her daughter liked theirs as well, so overall the food was a hit with all of us. SEATING We were a group of four, but the table felt more suited for two, mainly because of how the chairs were arranged. You're basically back-to-back with another table, which was a bit annoying. Still, all our plates and drinks fit fine, it's just a tighter setup. PARKING We had to park a couple blocks away. As did my friend, so give yourself time to park. the staff and service was amazing! the seating situation is a lil weird not gonna lie , it's def meant for those who eat fast and are relatively in and out . its very drafty from the in and out traffic and both areas with tables and chairs are next to one of the entrance doors . the food is okay not bad the corn tortillas are cooked in oil which i like but are not patted off or anything causing them to be very oily even when i blotted it with a paper towel it was everywhere . my friend got the crepes and said the lox one needed more cream cheese , the sweet crepe she got was very chocolate heavy so a pro for chocolate lovers . the pancake was simple but delicious. the carne adovada was a 8/10 the rest was about a 5/10 not very seasoned but overall okay . i've been told to try the other meals. i would def recommend due to atmosphere and service but ima def order something else when i come back . i can say no matter what the drinks they have the teas and coffees are amazing ! read more

I really like this coffee shop and cafe. It's got a full food menu with big tasty breakfast and lunch burritos, with egg or tofu for breakfast, good red and green chile, good bagel sandwiches, gluten free crepes, and other foods. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I like theirs! It's not too strong for me and is smooth enough. It's one of the only coffee shops in Albuquerque that has an artsy, hang out sort of vibe. I've caught live music there- a singer songwriter playing guitar. It has a real local neighborhood vibe and is a fun place to go. It does get loud with the acoustics of the building. This was a tough one bc it's a really cute place, but the food was just not very good. We had the Southwest Philly and The Turkey Melt both on focaccia, a side blue cheese salad, and the mushroom and wild rice soup. I'll start with the sandwiches. The real problem came from the bread. It was soggy on both sandwiches, but especially so on the turkey melt. I think if you're getting a hot sandwich skip the focaccia and get another bread. maybe also ask to get it extra crispy? The salad was really underwhelming and the salad dressing was clearly just Ken's blue cheese. (at least it's not hidden valley) too much red onion and the tomatoes were cut really thick. The soup was delicious, and if I could go back I'd probably just get a big bowl of that and some chips or something. Really well seasoned and filling. The restaurant is really cuta and in a nice location by the park, but the food is just not worth the trip. read more

My partner, a self-appointed coffee snob, spoke highly of the espresso. A few pointers: 1. There's more parking in the back. 2. There's a strange inconsistency here in that if you order a crepe or drink, they shout out your name and you pick it up, but other orders are brought to your table by ticket number. 3. Java Joe's is one of my favorite spots for brekkie. Their coffee is also delightful! I only make it down there on weekends due to work, so I do suffer from the crowds. The dining room isn't huge and often times the seats are filled. We always find ourselves hovering to snatch a seat while the other orders. My go-to is their breakfast enchiladas with red chile. The enchi's come flat with black beans, choice of chile and eggs and lil garnish. It always hits the spot for me. They have a full menu of lovely items along with daily specials. You can get a fancy coffee or stick with the drip brew too. You'll be happy with either route I promise. When the dining room is full, it can get very loud, so be prepared to turn up your vocals a notch. It's favorite spot and you can tell. read more

Ordered house made granola, breakfast burrito, green chili veggie omelet with avocado, bell pepper, turkey breast, red chili and chocolate covered strawberry (they ran out of the cherry syrup chemicals) latte with two shots and oat milk and sencha green. $34.36 before the mandatory "non-cash advantage charge" of 4%, $35.73. They get you with a "non-cash advantage" charge to your bill of 4%, this is always after you pay and totally shady of businesses when they do this. You don't know about this charge until it's too late and you have already paid. Crooked to me. The sencha is blah. Steeped for 10 minutes and it still tastes like water. The surprise chocolate covered strawberry latte is so-so, not worth the money. Nothing here is worth the money. It's a Java Joe Joke here. All of the food looks decent, but tastes just okay. The red enchilada sauce tastes quite odd, doesn't taste right to me. The granola isn't too bad, but there is quite a few burnt pieces throughout it. The green chili custom omelet was average. The best part was the fresh mushrooms. The turkey meat was clumped together in one spot and the other half had only green chilies and green green peppers in it, need to work on the distribution more. I don't get the wilted lettuce leave garnish much. The turkey slices could and should have been sliced up more into smaller bites. No need to keep the deli slice whole and intact in an omelet. I don't think I ever got any red chilies, at least I didn't find a single piece in the entire omelet. Like many Breaking Bad tourists, we're roaming AbQ searching for filming locations, and this site was Tuco's office that Heisenberg blew up. In reality, Java Joe's is located downstairs and everything about it is 5 stars. First, the price. Super affordable. Second, the selection... you can be a meat eater, vegetarian, and possibly vegan and still find something to eat here. Third, the portions... they're huge. The breakfast burrito was highly recommended, and it was massive and cheap! Less than $6. Add meat and sauce... bump it up 95 cents. Seriously, cheap eats that will fill you up. I haven't been here since the pandemic and I was pleased to find it's just as busy as always and just as delicious! I had the breakfast enchiladas (christmas!) with my eggs over medium and everything was done just right. The red and green combo had a good kick but it wasn't overwhelming so spicey but I could still taste the flavors in the food. My friends had crepes and the oatmeal both of them looked delicious. I will definitely have to give the crepes a try next time! They also always have a great selection of brewed coffee and lots of other beverages to choose from. WOW! Was not expecting to LOVE this place as I do. The food is delicious and made to order. The teas & coffee were also beyond expectations. They know how to do breakfast and good service. We've tried the veggie green chilies omlete, mushroom bacon swiss cheese, avocado omlete, chocolate chip biscotti, gluten-free coconut macaroon, flower ice tea, espresso, and a Dirty Chi - all incredibly delicious. We took a walk through west Downtown and the Country Club neighborhood today. It was cold and windy and we wanted something hot to drink, so we stopped in at Java Joe's. I hadn't been there in a few years but I remembered they had really good coffee and food. I'm sorry to say I was pretty disappointed in my cafe au lait. I asked for a to-go cup in case I didn't finish my drink before we left. I was handed a cup containing steamed milk and had to add the coffee from one of their urns. Sadly, the coffee tasted like something you'd find at a fast-food restaurant - flavorless and pretty blah. My husband had their chai which he thought was quite good. We split a lox crepe, which was very tasty - a buckwheat crepe plentifully filled with smoked salmon, tomatoes, cream cheese, and red onion. Once I removed the onion from my half (not a fan of raw) I enjoyed my half. I'll have to try an espresso-based drink the next time I visit, but otherwise, Java Joe's is a nice hangout. read more

This is the downtown staple where actual downtowners go. It's small but friendly and have some of the best coffee around. During the pandemic, the owners made the decision to pull the crepe machine out of the growers market. It's now at the restaurant making the buckwheat, gluten free crepes of your dreams. Admittedly, I usually get the Nutella and banana but I was with a health-nit so I changed it up with a smoked salmon, cream cheese, caper, and tomato crepe. Absolutely delicious. We went there specifically for the pancakes though. Sometimes you just need a thick, fluffy pancake like mom used to make - and these do not disappoint. My only complaint is that there aren't syrup options. Not because I am picky, but my friend has a pretty severe corn allergy and "pancake syrup" that isn't actual maple syrup is full of corn syrup. Maybe a fruit purée or charge extra for real maple? I don't know. But the latte and the drip coffee were both delicious. This is hands down my favorite place to get breakfast in downtown Albuquerque!! Their food has always been 10/10, and the wait time is under 10 minutes even when they are JAM PACKED!!!
