Duke Eatery is a sleek version of your average midtown bodega. I'm sorry but beneath the finishing touches and the crisp displays and general feeling of being decorated by Elon Musk, it's still the same chopped salads and sandwiches and buffet hot food. I do appreciate the fresh-baked bread and muffins - the chocolate and the blueberry have saved me on consecutive mornings - and the ample seating area even in the heat of the lunch rush. Everything is overpriced, which makes sense, given the captive audience. My tofu stir fry maybe had five pieces of actual tofu and otherwise contained a base layer of cheap veggies (think lots of carrots rather than peppers or snow peas). The tuna sushi, while a good deal for less than under $9, tasted a bit old, though I didn't suffer any terrible after-effects. Good variety of hot and cold buffet items, including an exceptional chicken salad and Brussels sprouts/cranberry mix, but I wasn't a fan of how a portion for a normal appetite rang up to around $13. I've had better luck with the breakfast items (I have yet to grab a stale muffin and the egg sandwiches are always dependable ... though there's really no room to mess up those) so I'll stick with those in the future. read more

Sometimes in Manhattan you go to places that charge you a lot of money and give you ridiculously large portions of food your not going to finish. I like going to Duke Eatery because I have control of my portions and could eat clean for under $10. They weigh your plate so you could easily eat lunch for a very affordable price. My co workers question me for choosing a buffet option. However, if you are concerned about germs or other people, go before noon and have an early lunch. Everything is fresh and there's not many people eating lunch before noon. I think this is a very good option if your on a diet or want more value for your meal. read more

Good variety; quality varies! I like the variety Duke's offers but the items can be hit or miss. For example, their salmon is consistently tasty and never over cooked however as others have mentioned, other hot items such as teriyaki chicken can be dried out a doused with too much sauce. This business is not honest. We ordered delivery (over $80 total bill including tip) to our hotel two blocks away with room info and phone number. After an hour we called to inquire about the delivery and they said it was already delivered. We went downstairs and saw a bag on a table with our food (no name or other identifiable info on the bag). So our delivery with hot food and cold smoothies was left on a table in the lobby with no call to us and no one asked the front desk to call us. Really great that our smoothies were now juice. We called to tell them what happened and they said they called the number on the order (no calls were made to this cell phone) and then left. The manager said that the problem was us not answering the phone (again, no call to the cell phone was made, as evidenced by our cellphone log history--I even checked to make sure the number on the order was correct and it was). Then he hung up on us. Unacceptable. Look for honest businesses elsewhere. It's really not that hard to show respect to others. read more

It's so refreshing to have this place in the neighborhood! Just stopped by for breakfast, it was so good that I came back again for lunch.... I'm a very picky with my bagels, and this is the first place I found in the area that's met my standards. My egg sandwich was soft but chewy and melting with cheese, just the way I like it! I've had a terrible experience with food in this area, so it's amazing to have a reliable place for lunch too. I tried the poke bowl station today and it was VERY good. Their portions are much bigger than Pokewords and the salmon is reaaally fresh. Hard to find 5-star quality at pay-by-the-pound hot/cold bars around the city, but Duke Eatery nails it. First off, they have sooooo many options! Probably over 60 different items to choose from between the hot side and the salad side. Want a combination of 3 Chinese items, baked ziti, and a side of sushi? Done. Want a customized meat lovers plate with brisket, roast pork, turkey, and grilled chicken salad? Attainable. Second, the quality of the food is excellent. Fresh veggies, tender meat, and all the items are kept at the right temperature. Unlike at most hot bars, there's not items I avoid just because I know the quality isn't there. Lastly, I want to point out that the place is clean and well-ran. Lines move quick and employees are friendly. This review is based purely on my experience at the hot/cold bar, since that's all I've had there, but Duke does have many other stations which I wouldn't hesitate to try. read more

Nonetheless I go in and give it at try, everything is smooth sailing I order what I want and get my bev. Right seems pretty normal and so right when I pay for my sandwich and leave. I open it up to ketchup in my damn sandwich. Never asked for it and don't understand why people enjoy it but all in all. A waste of $15. Yes the sandwich was 8.50 for a BACON EGG AND CHEESE. This is my egg white and veggie morning spot everything here is super fresh and made on premises the grill man is so professional and works the grill like a magician . For lunch you can have so many different options and everything is made to order. Great salads. Only one thing annoys me is the owners always charge you 1 to 5 cent over to money break another dollar and they will never just let you go and u have to leave with a pocket of money. There is a large variety of food, most of which is tasty. Some of the food is expensive - watch the per-pound hot bar. You'll pay $20 for a bunch of cauliflower if youre not careful. I usually stick to the noodle bowls - theres quite a variety and reasonably priced. My biggest issue with Duke is its popularity - if you go there at noon it is one of the most stressful experiences in the city. You have enough room to take a single step in either direction, then you have to plan your next step. Having said that, checkout is fast - what looks like a long line disappears in less than a minute, and next thing you know you're on the street with your expensive bodega food. Caveat emptor. Just opened recently, right outside my building. Everything looks nice and clean, with a mix of cuisines everywhere. Works out great for late night dinner, since everything around my immediate vicinity is closed or closes early. Would not get the seafood tofu soup or Korean station in general if you're looking for something "real". They've got some kinks to work out. A new go-to lunch spot in Midtown! Woohoo! I've been here three times and each time the food did not disappoint. I've tried two paninis - California club and chipotle chicken - and both were delicious. Can't wait to try more! Would be cool if Duke's offered paninis by the half size so I can try more than one in a day or just get a smaller size because I can't finish both. The poke bowls are good as well. The checkout line is a little overwhelming as the cashiers always ring up the person after you while you're still waiting for your credit card to go through. Do not get the tofu soup. Simply brutal. I heard lots of coworkers going to this place for udon and sushi so I decided to give this place a shot. Maybe their udon and sushi are better but definitely not the tofu soup. It was just a chicken broth mixed with a spice and cubed firm tofu, onions, mushrooms and cabbage. I've been checking Yelp ever so often to see when this place will finally have a listing! You would think that another one of these deli/diner/bistro/we-do-it-all joints would just saturate the market more but Duke's does it just a little bit better. Generally it has a very wide selection of food but the cleanliness, efficiency, and convenience in terms of location makes it just that much better than other lunch spots in the area. I highly recommend trying the poke bowls and bibimbap, having tried most of the entire menu during its grand opening week. read more

A gem in New York! We are from West Virginia. Every year, we visit New York to see all the famous landmarks. After a long walk, we wanted to grab something to eat. And we ended up finding this restaurant at a convenient location. As soon as we walked in, we were impressed of how clean and organized everything was. The food was amazing. The salad bar was very fresh, filled with a variety of healthy options. The buffet was delicious. The customer service was super fast. They provided everything a customer needs for a meal. Duke is honestly a no-brainer for Midtown east lunch-seekers. I don't have time to walk very far from my office for lunch so Duke has been an absolute paradise for me since it's opened and the great thing is that it's literally around the corner from my office. The space is HUGE and the lighting is great. Stepping in here really makes you except to pick out what you want for your meal. They have EVERYTHING here, cold sandwiches, paninis, hot sandwiches, a large variety of hot foods that go by the pound including: pasta, fried rice, pot stickers, vegetables, soups. They also have sushi, pokebowls, udon, ramen.. honestly, whatever you want.. they have it. It's amazing. I don't think anyone could ever get tired of the food here because the variety is just unlimited. The hot foods always seem fresh and steamy, the turnover rate is pretty quick because of this store's growing popularity so I never worry about things being dry or stale. The best part is that they also do everything extremely well, the hot sandwich (albeit not the best) was still very good and generous in portions, the miso udon was hearty, I love their calamari and selection of hot foods, they also have Asian snacks that are difficult to find in the Manhattan area, a HUGE selection of drinks and even some seating area for those who don't want to eat in the office. The line goes by quickly since they usually have several cashiers working at once. What's there NOT to like about this place? This is a good place for lunch if you work in Midtown. Options range from a widely assorted salad bar, chopped salad station, udon or ramen to-order, stir fry, hot/cold sandwiches, etc. I regularly come here for lunch but often don't get the same stuff because of the variety. It does get very busy around 12:30pm but the cash register area is very efficient so, I'm usually in and out in 5min. I do hear hot sandwich station can be a hit or miss and the salad bar get messy if you get there late - I try to go by noon or before to avoid the crowd and for a well stocked salad bar. read more

This was a great place to grab dinner on our first night in NYC. It's open 24 hrs so no matter what time you fly in and check into your hotel, you can grab something here when everything else is closed. The selection is huge in terms of what you can get. My husband and I bought sushi. The sushi was grocery store quality but for a quick option it was good enough. I wonder how the other food they offer holds up.
