To find out 35 years later that the same subs were being made at Dukes brought me to try their subs and that same exact taste that I loved came back to me. We moved into Pittstown 10 years ago and I was pleasantly surprised about the quality of Dukes pizza and food. Fast forward and I have to update my earlier review because as several other Yelpers point out - their food and service have nose dived. I largely stopped coming here about 5 years ago (even though we live 4 mins away) primarily because I find their pizza inedible - undercooked, thick and doughy. I take a much longer drive to Toscanos in Clinton these days. Thin, crisp and tasty NY style pizza. With nice, large pieces of sausage not the ground up stuff like Duke serves. (Still not sure why they do that. Italy doesn't, NYC doesn't, New Haven doesn't. ) Tonight I had no real option but to get something from them for dinner. I went with the Chicken parm. I will say that they do give you a lot of food - but 1/2 of the chicken was paper thin and bone dry. The other half was cooked ok but the flavor was not great. It's a shame - the place looks good and clean inside and they hire local HS kids to man the phone and counter. Which is nice. But the food isn't worth it. I'll continue to stay away. read more

good pizza place! We are very Local, so we end up ordering from here a lot and going in to eat occasionally. The Buffalo chicken pizza, chicken parm, and meatballs are family favorites. Only thing to add is when eating inside recently -you forget that this building was updated not too long ago- tables are poorly lit & can still tell it isn't the cleanest dining area. read more

Well doesn't this chicken parm look delicious? That's what I thought until I tried it. Has to be the worst I've ever had. 1st off the chicken was so thinly cut that it was so dry and inedible and almost gray they so over cooked it. And the over use of what tasted like garlic salt in the breading was so over powering that's all you tasted. And yes this is chicken parm but the amount of Parmesan cheese,which seemed like it was from a can not shaved on was disgusting. Pasta was ok though, nothing special. We also had the crispy calamari, which was true to it name. Crispy and over cooked to the point of tasting like you were chewing on rubber. My wife had the cheesesteak sandwich w/mushrooms. There was maybe 2 mushrooms on it and the meat was over cooked. I heard good things about this place and that's why we decided to try it. The only thing good about this place was our waitress and the couple that sat near us we talked to. Other then that I would say this was not a good dining experience at all. I don't like giving bad reviews to restaurants since I know how hard it is to run one, but sorry this place deserved it. Didn't take it out in our waitress,she was very attentive. We actually came in for the pizza but decided once we got there to try some entrees. We should have stuck with the pizza. But now I'm not sure if that would have been a better experience. My husband and I heard this was voted the best pizza in Hunterdon County and we agree!!! It's been on our list for a while & we finally got there last night. It was pretty busy for a Friday night but we snatched the last open table. It was the table closest to the door so we had a draft while eating which probably would be my ONLY complaint (but it didn't ruin our experience by any means). We ordered 6 bbq wings and 6 hot wings for our appetizer. They were delicious- very meaty, tasty & cooked perfectly. We then ordered a large half cheese and half works (our server recommended this because we had a hard time deciding). The works had pepperoni, sausage, onions, peppers & mushrooms. It was DELICIOUS. I cannot even describe how tasty the sauce was and I think that's what puts this at the top of our list. Loved the homey atmosphere- it seemed like everyone in there knew each other & that says something about this place. There seemed to be a lot of people coming in for take out also. The service was excellent- all workers were super friendly, helpful & knowledgable about the menu. We will DEFINITELY be back and are looking forward to trying more on the menu. My experience here was a bit like the Twilight Zone. The server took my order and then I received something else. Finally got the cheese steak I ordered. I've had some bad cheese steaks but this was the worst for sure. Would have been better off getting Steakums and rolls on the way home. Not sure what the meat was on it and don't really want to know. This is the closest pizza joint to us and I'm sure happy it is. They staff is amazing and so is the food. We have ordered a plethora of different items from here (pizza, pasta, mozzarella sticks, salads etc) and it is Always consistent! I would say we get take out from here once a week and I would do it more if I didn't force myself to cook. I always ask for crushed red peppers on the side and they are nice enough to always give me a small container filled with it! This is what makes me want to support small business. Coming to the food- the freshness is unreal. You know that dough smell that some places have because of the yeast mix, yeah this place doesn't have have hard smell. It's GREAT to have something in this space after the Donatello's disaster! Duke's isn't Perricones, unfortunately, (most notably in the bread and pizza dough departments) but it's not bad either. Nice folks and good food. Having had quite a few things from the menu I can say that the pizza is good. The sandwiches and strombolis are excellent. The breakfast sandwiches are mediocre. The coffee is terrible. The service is amateur. BYOB is great. The place seems to be having a bit of an identity crisis with their menu offerings beyond the traditional pizza/deli/sandwich type stuff. On weekends there are dinner specials, kind of 'fancier' menu offerings, but they just don't seem to fit the atmosphere of the place in my opinion. The specials are often good, it just feels strange eating them there. It's a deli and pie place to me. Always will be. There are a few improvements, ordered according to my personal priority, that the owners could make for some quick wins toward a better patron experience: 1. Please spend more time training (and then supervising) the staff. Most of them are kids, I get it, but unless the adult woman behind the counter is present the service can be downright terrible - and no one seems to care. 2. Please adjust the color temperature of the lighting. I realize that there is a dentist's office next door, but you don't need to use the same lighting scheme. It feels downright sterile. Something a little dimmer and warmer would really improve the atmosphere, particularly at dinner. 3. Speaking of sterile - please put the dumpster in the parking lot behind the restaurant! Patrons should NEVER see garbage, much less have to move out of the way as the employees who are also preparing the food carry it through the front entrance... This also takes up already-limited parking. read more

Been meaning to do this a few times. Dukes has definitely changed for the better. We have gone back for take out a few times since out of convenience. Several things have gotten better and a few pleasant discoveries. The food has gotten much better. The pizza is really good (not as good as Marinelli's) but still real good. Salads have gotten better and we have had a few of the entrees. My big discovery is the Calzones. They are the bomb. The small is a big calzone and can be a challenge for one person to eat. The large calzone is freaking huge. Literally twice the size of a small. The only problem with the large is it can sometimes be too big to have the center of the calzone hot. In my mind a small price to pay for an epic amount of calzone. Glad they have gotten better since they are so close to me. read more

Holy moly ba-joly! Did Pittstown ever need a place like this to open up! The food is awesome! The pizza slices are heated extra hot, so they're perfect when they hit your plate. Not semi-cold like most places. And the cheese... I don't know what they're using - but keep it coming! BOOM! Sandwiches for miles form this place! And I mean for miles. No need to order the full size hoagie from these guys unless you're splitting it with someone. Because it's like 15ft long or something. Bottom line. The place has great food and great servers. I've only ever been met with a smile when stop by. Win! read more

I've been a customer for a few years and lately Dukes just doesn't seem the same. Lots of little issues and long wait times. Today I called in an order and was disconnected only to call back and give my order again. When I arrived, I was told they didn't have my order and they had to search for my ticket. I had to wait another 20 minutes. The girl behind the counter was very nice and apologetic but I would have thought the owner would have personally addressed this with me.. nope nothing. Sorry but I think I may be done with Dukes. There are too many other pizza places to choose from, nothing special about Dukes. read more

I'm frequently in this neck of the woods. This past Sunday was the 117th National Audubon Society Christmas bird count and my territory was portions of Pittstown, Alexandria and Bethlehem. The rain forced me to take lunch early so I stopped in at Duke's. Nice clean pizzeria type place with great historical photos on the wall. Super friendly service and good coffee eliminated my chill. I ordered a simple lunch. An appetizer portion of mussels in red sauce and an order of fries. While the fries were great, the mussels were just adequate. Ten small mussels for ten bucks? A skimpy portion for the price. The red sauce was thin and not as flavorful as I hoped. Judging from the many four and five star reviews, there are many folks that love this place. A Local gem just down the street from my sisters house. Have been going for years and always a pleasant experience. The spinach is flavorful wih a nice kick when you add more red pepper flakes to it at home. The Eggplant parm w/ pasta is a huge serving which includes a salad and bread as well. Pizza is off the hook as well. Sometimes when we go for a visit the boys will order it (pizza) every day for lunch or dinner. read more

I like the staff here that I can say however their Sicilian pie was disappointing, bland and left much to be desired. I've had their Alfredo too and the first couple times I ordered it it was good but the recipe seemed to change, now it's just seems to be heavy on the Parmesan cheese versus sauce. Everyone is excited to see a new restaurant in Pittstown especially at the old Perricones. After many months of the location being closed and forcing people to drive to Rt 12 or Clinton the new pizza/Italian spot is welcome out here in our-little-bit-of-country. Soup, sandwiches, great pizza and coffee/breakfast, who could want more? I have had their pizza on a few occasions and liked it but being a non-pizza fan I was not moved by it. This week I stopped in for breakfast and had the most awesome BE&C. Later in I stopped in and had a phenomenal penne vodka with grilled chicken. For years, I've been happy with Dukes for lunch... today, visited for dinner... Seems they've updated and upscaled their decor and menu. There's a wide range of entrees sandwiches salads, pastas and pizza... Ask to see the separate "Pizza Menu". I tried the Eggplant Parmesan, wifee had a Cheeseburger and fries to share... super presentation, the fries were phenomenal... My sandwich could have used more sauce... because I like a bit of sandwich with my sauce :) Next time I'll get extra on the side. I am an eight year resident of Pittstown. I was excited when Dukes opened their doors. Then I tried their pizza and I was instantly hooked! Their buffalo chicken pizza is hands down the best I've ever had. I recently order 8 different types of pies for my daughters birthday party. All of them were a big hit. They also have gluten free pies available which I've been told are exceptional. My favorite dish is their Caesar salad with grilled chicken. The chicken is deliciously seasoned. My daughter loves their garlic knots and Sicilian pizza, kids can be hard to please sometimes when it comes to their food choices. My daughters eyes light up when I ask her if she would like to eat Dukes for dinner. All of the staff is polite and actuate. My order has been right every time! The food is ok. Have been here a few times, think prices for meals are on par with nicer places, not a pizza parlor. My real complaint is the woman who works here, mostly weekdays. I've walked out waiting for her to stop her endless conversing with people. Poor service from her. The guy on the weekends and the younger kids that work there are much better. Don't recommend stopping for lunch while working, you will be there forever. Also she does not understand that cursing is inappropriate. I've heard some strong language while she gossips at the counter. Certainly not what I would want my family to hear. Doubt I will be going here much, if at all, except for the guy there on Sunday. read more

I went for the first time this week. Food was phenomenal. I had eggplant rollatini and it was fantastic. The pizza was delicious as well. My family had a variety of food including linguini with white clam and chicken parmesan and they were very satisfied. I would highly recommend trying it out if you have never been. read more
