The airport is very convient to access from my home and also a friendly and helpful staff available to assist with any problems or issues. I really proffer to fly out at this airport compared to the other (2) two surrounding my home.

What a major improvement for Dulles over the old "mobile lounges" which were a bus thing that drove you from one terminal to another. This subway is awesome. Speedy, efficient, and often. Underground is the way to go. They did a really super job on it, though it would be nice if there was a bit less walking and a few more slidewalks. Know-what-I-mean?

This train is supposed to make access to the terminals easier than the old Mobile Lounges that were "revolutionary" when Dulles opened decades ago. While the Mobile Lounges aren't perfect (wait times, limited capacity, etc.), at least they drop you off AT the terminal. If you're leaving from the C Terminal, AeroTrain drops you off a country mile from the current C Terminal. It was built so that it would be directly under the new C Terminal, whenever that gets built. Maybe I'll upgrade my Yelp rating in 10 years, when the new C Terminal actually gets built and the train actually takes you where you need to go. Until then, 1 star. PS - Oh, and when you factor in the walking time in addition to the LONG security screening, be prepared to get to Dulles EXTRA early for your flight, or risk missing it.

It's finally here, the Dulles AeroTrain! Many have been waiting years for the technological breakthrough of trains to reach IAD. Folks can now zoom around the airport at up to 42 miles per hour. I've been on it a few times now, so lets review. The trains and the stations are squeaky clean and futuristic (kind of how like IAD probably looked futuristic when it was first built - hopefully the AeroTrain look will do better, but I doubt it). Also, they have redone the entrance and security lines so that security is better laid out and you escalate right down into the train station. The trains run themselves without a conductor, but are stuck on tracks and the entire system is enclosed in futuristic plastic - probably to keep the trains from escaping IAD and taking over the Virginia suburbs (insert Flight of Conchords "The Humans are Dead" here). The trains do come quite often and do run pretty fast. Getting between stations is fast and easy. If you are headed to Terminal A (Southwest) you take the escalator right up into the terminal. It's a nice quick trip. On the other hand, if you are going to Terminal C the train whizzes right by Terminal C and drops you off past the terminal. Then you get to spend ten minutes walking (underground) and taking moving sidewalks back to Terminal C. Looking at the train system map (pic uploaded), the reasoning behind this seems to be they plan to build future gates there. And rather than make it easy for all the terminal C/D gates and travelers that exist now, the planners have made the decision to make it easier for future gates that may never be built. I'm guessing they are just trying ensure their job continuity in these tough times, because travelers are definitely going to want those new gates (so they don't have to walk so far from the station). Still, IAD has come into the 80s with the AeroTrain. In a couple years the Metro silver line will get there and it will get to the 90s! And let's have a moment of silence for the IAD Mobile Lounges. When they first trundled into Dulles I am sure they were the cat's meow. Many people don't know this, but they originally whisked you right from the gate to the plane. They even went up and down to match the plane height. Pretty damm cool, especially if they had pianos in them (which they didn't, but let's pretend they did and a martini bar also). Sadly, the days of mobile lounges, friendly stewardess (you could call them that back then), not paying for bags, and getting something edible on planes are over.

Clean and efficient. They run on time and are frequent. What a blessing from the shuttle buses above ground. Great job!

A very convenient way to get from terminal to terminal. Stand up style. Frequent enough to be convenient.

A staff member told me they usually have something for children, but with a busy holiday weekend, they didn't have those activities available. It's worth coming back when the children's activities are available.

Usually I think of Steve Martin when I think of Planes (and Trains, and Automobiles, and Two Pillow), but that is a think of beauty! USA! USA! USA! It's off the beaten path near the Dulles (IAD) airport so if you're in DC Proper, it's a bit of a haul. But I was lucky enough to be in Leesburg for a bit and stopped in. The museum is Free, but there was a $15 per vehicle parking fee, which is probably good for a clown car, but I was there myself so I ate the $15 myself. Speaking of eating $15, there's a Shake Shack on-site which was convenient. I didn't give it a try as I was heading to dinner after my visit. The two highlights for me were the Space Shuttle which is always cool AF to see (and you can get close), the Enola Gay which is historical, that Black Plane, the "Big Joe" Mercury Spacecraft (and all of the other space stuff), and the fact they don't give you a math test. It wasn't as crowded as the main attraction in DC Proper, but just as cool and awe-inspiring. I rushed through in about an hour but could easily spend more time here! Oh, and don't miss the tower where you can see for miles around the area! Cool, but not the highlight for me.

Owned by north Virginia's first congressman and his family this was a working plantation. At one point it was also used by confederate soldiers. Give yourself at least 45 minutes for the grounds.
