So I live just a few miles from Dulzura MiniMart. And I can't believe I have done without their smoked meat tacos for so long. It took a visit from my brother and his search for some good Mexican food to reacquaint me with the Dulzura Mini Mart. Years ago, it was called the Dulzura Café and was a great stop off for a hearty breakfast. But I have to say their smoked meat tacos are worth making whatever drive you have to make to order and enjoy. Just recently I ordered takeout for 15. I chose to have the meats all laid out on a tray so that people could make their own talk goes with the tortillas and fixings. But honestly, I think next time I'll have Liz put them together. She seems to know exactly the right amounts of guac, salsa, meat, etc. and how to arrange it to show off the flavors. The smoked meats are only available on the weekend when the grill in the big oak logs are fired up out in front. This is definitely a place to treat yourself too on a beautiful backcountry drive. Right on 94 in Dulzura. Can't say enough good things about Liz and Luis who run the minimart. Friendly, open, answer all your questions kind of people. read more

Dulzura mini market is my little visit to heaven after offloading in Otay mountain truck trail. The people who work at this place are nice and friendly to everyone. One of the ladies that worked there has been working for the past 30 years. According to her this place began in 1930s as a diner and a bar. The owner of the place bought this place about 10 years ago and started serving tacos, which became really popular as a destination for people driving through this road as well as some of the locals. Always love the vibe, whether they're sitting inside on a hot day in the AC or sitting in the backyard under the tree shade fair day. Plus the Internet doesn't work here at least for T-Mobile so we all get to take a break from our devices. Always love visiting this place . read more

This place is THE BEST!!! If they were open every day I'd try to give them 10 stars. Currently trying to run a train on the entire menu, can only vouch for tacos and quesadillas so far. Wow! What a phenomenal place to eat during a weekend adventure. Excellent service and hospitality. Food hours are limited to the weekends. Once they run out, they don't make anymore either. So I highly recommend getting an early lunch. A great outdoor atmosphere. The wood fire grilled food adds the right amount of flavor. I can't stress enough how great the food tastes. The smiling clerk was friendly and very welcoming with a warm greeting as I entered the store. The store is more than just a market. It's a meeting place for locals, friends and neighbors. They,of course have your normal market needs, including over the counter meds & a good variety of different beers to be consumed on premises at a per bottle price or just to grab a 6 pack to go. There is seating at counter or tables for a more intimate or family/group get together. The decor has a warm homemade feel to it with trophy bucks, bobcats, and other taxidermy mounted on the walls as well as a large collection of license plates mounted on the dining area walls. The best thing about this place is they sell smoked tacos every weekend! Very tasty tacos and they are definitely worth stopping by to try one for yourself. Stopped here to get chips and soda ended up getting the three tacos combo chicken, beef and pork, ALL three were delicious but the chicken was the best one for me, it has a smoky taste to it. I stop in at Dulzura Mini Market every time I go up Otay Truck Trail. Their street tacos are the best I've had in San Diego, without a doubt. After a long day of off-roading I emerged from the mountains starving. I turned the corner and came across what must have been a mirage but ended up being some amazing Mexican food! Those 5 stars are well-deserved, as I discovered this weekend. A friend and I stopped in for a bite en route to our lodging nearby. I had a cute little taquito with beans, cheese, salsa, guacamole, the works. The beans were really really good - simply boiled and cooked to perfection. My friend had a beef barbacoa burrito, also with beans, guacamole, onion, etc. We watched the cooking of the beef over the outdoor coals. I sampled, and it was yummy. The owners were super-friendly, and they clearly care about quality. They also recycle everything that can be recycled; I appreciate the consciousness.
