It's been quite a while since I have enjoyed a taco salad. We were up exploring close to Alpine and found this restaurant on Yelp. Parking was tricky as they were in the middle of two roads. They had just a few spots next to the restaurant and they were all full. We ended up parking across the street and played Frogger to get to the restaurant. Lol! The food was great and I did my best to eat sll of the salad because it was just delicious. I like the way they presented refried beans in a small taco salad cup. You get the beans and the crunchy! Been there a few times, food is decent though somewhat overpriced. I won't go back however due to them charging me a whopping $4.25 for a glass of club soda! I asked the waitress about it, then called the manager. Basically they said "that's our policy now". Even after I told them I would never return they didn't care. I guess business must be so good for them that they can afford to lose regular customers over gouging on the cost of fizzy water. Very short sighted and frankly... dumb. read more

I have eaten at Al Pancho in Alpine numerous times, but have always forgot to leave a review. Today I had the Carne Asada Taco Salad it was very delicious. A perfect blend of salad, meat, beans, pico, sour cream, cheese and guacamole. The steak was perfectly cooked and the shell was flaky and had great taste. The staff is always friendly and price is about average based on similar mexican restaurants. The temperature in the restaurant isn't too warm or cold and seating is comfortable. I highly recommend if you haven't been here before, you try it at least once. Guarantee you, it'll become one of your favorite spots to eat out. read more

Few parking spots in the front on Alpine Blvd. some outdoor seating and plenty in indoor seating as well. Small bar near the font with a TV with sports on it. Once inside staff will greet you quickly and are very welcoming. Staff is so nice, sweet and accommodating. Seem to be doing plenty of pickup and take out. Food is good and consistent. Food comes out in a decent time. Food is decently priced for the size. I left a larger then normal tip for the quality of service. Loved the friendly accommodating attitude towards my family. Al Pancho's has been my favorite Mexican restaurant since we moved to Alpine. This a cute little place, plenty of seating inside and has an outdoor dining patio. The staff is very friendly and professional and the food is super yummy. They have been in business since we moved to Alpine in 2003 and I'm sure it was here long before us. It feels like a family run restaurant complete with the great service and tasty offerings only a labor of love a family could provide. So, if you're looking to dine at one of many Mexican restaurants we enjoy here in Alpine, this one tops my list, hands down! They offer shaded outdoor seatings. Stumbled upon this place after hiking at the stonewall. They had a lot of options to choose from and even for kids too. They do have free parking that are shared with stores next to the restaurant. Or they also have free street parking. This place was busy but were able to find seating. I did see seating for 6 people so it's a good place for a larger group. I've got their steak burrito but added beans and rice for extra price. Which I thought why don't they already have that inside the burrito... the size of the burrito was huge. I took my other half home and I was so full from just half, I didn't eat dinner. The service was fast. This is a good place to stop, if you are looking for Mexican food on the way to the San Diego, but I wouldn't say this is the best burrito I've had. read more

I wanted to love it, went in so excited, we live in alpine and our options are limited. The original server was nice, polite, helped us navigate the menu, answered all our questions We ordered a carne asada plate, carnitas plate and a molcajete. The molcajete was huge, I had asked for a small one, which she said OK, but ended up bringing me the full size. The chicken was off tasting, the fried cheese was good (not great), the overall flavor was not appealing. The carne asada came out 2nd - it was so fatty you couldn't chew through the meat - good flavor, a ton of fat. The carnitas - I could smell them from the kitchen and it wasn't good - she brought them out and something just wasn't right - the smell was off. I took a small bite they were sour and rotten- called the waitress back over and she literally said "I'm sorry we served you the wing batch, those were meant for the trash". Now we don't want to eat anything - I don't trust them, I'm certain we are going to get sick from what we did eat. I asked the server if we can please just pay for our sodas we don't want any of the food we just want to go. She said "I will take off the carnitas, you need to pay the rest of your bill". My husband does not like confrontation so I conceded and paid it. Every time I drive by there, I want to scream out the window they served me rotten food, be careful, it might happen to you too. Maybe cuz i came in the am but this lady was mean. No smiles and I repeated multiple times about having a spicy salsa but I dont think she cared and was irritated when repeated myself. Id reach to say thank you a couple times and she would immediately turn around and walk away. The Burrito was amazing as to why I gave it 2 stars instead of one but I also got charged 17$ after I seen post that said Burritos were 12$ here. It honestly pains me to say that I ate here for the first time today. If I would have found this place sooner I would never eat at any other Mexican food place in Alpine. My husband and I had the best service and our waitress was super friendly and personable. The food is reasonably priced for what you get. I got a beef chimichanga wet and it was filled with veggies and had rice, beans, sour cream, and guacamole for only $12 and there was enough to take home and eat for later. My husband had carne asada fries and they were better than any fast food place and had refried beans on them. Being 9 months pregnant, this really hit the spot. This review is in regards to the service only. Our party of 6 arrived at 9:05pm on a Wednesday. We were told that we could not be seated because the restaurant closes at 9:30pm. That they were only doing to go orders. We proceeded to place a to go order although confused with the conflicting information that's listed on their menu and Yelp page. Once we ordered the waiter told us they could not cook a chimichanga because the kitchen had already turned off the fryer. This was at 9:12pm. On Yelp it says the restaurant closes at 10pm. On their menu at 9:30pm. Please update your hours, your information here on Yelp and on your menu is misleading. When our food was brought out in to go bags the waitress told us we could not eat the food in the outside tables. We let her know we would eat quickly and she said they were going to turn off the lights. That they needed to turn off the lights to keep the mice away. I was looking forward to eating here especially with the great reviews but I will not be returning to this restaurant. Lastly, I asked the waitress that for future reference what time we needed to show up to be seated. She told me 8pm! I was shocked. A restaurant that advertises closing time of 9:30pm on their menu should be seating customers up until that time and not make excuses! read more
