Five Stars for quality. Now, the not so good part: the service is terrible. On multiple occasions, I've asked for something only to find when I get home and open the box that I was given the wrong thing. It happened today. I asked for two sticky rolls with pecans and I was given two with walnuts. The person who seems to make the most mistakes is the older lady who works there (whom I suspect is the owner, as all the other employees defer to her). She always looks stressed and out-of-sorts. My other complaint is that they aren't customer friendly. Last year toward the end of the summer, a friend gave me a gift certificate from Ferrara's that was supposedly good to the end of October 1st when they close for the year. When we went to use it in September, our last visit of the season to the island, we found the store closed for a week for some family event. When I explained what had happened after they reopened this year and asked if they would still honor the certificate, the grumpy lady said "no" because they had already "closed the books" for the previous year. For crying out loud, it was $20 coupon and I was a regular customer (emphasis on "was"). Despite the excellent baked goods, I prefer to give my business to bakeries that treat me well. Hence, I now buy most of my baked goods elsewhere, including at Big Apple Bakery on E. Bay Avenue in Manahawkin (next to the Acme Supermarket). Their stuff is just as good as Ferrara's and they have a larger selection. One Star for service. Five Stars plus One Star divided by two is Three Stars overall.

Whenever I visit the tri-state area, I naturally crave pizza and bagels -- no doubt they're the…read morebest here. However, I've developed gluten intolerance and it's hard to find places that offer options that accommodate celiac and gluten sensitive folks. I found that Surfside offered gluten free bagels and wanted to give a pork roll, egg, and cheese with salt, pepper, and ketchup. I was worried they wouldn't have any since I came late into off-season, but luckily they had plain and everything as bagel options. We took two orders of PREC w/ SPK - one on a GF everything bagel, one on a GF plain bagel. The GF bagels tasted almost like sandwich buns, but overall the breakfast bagel hit the spot without causing any terrible reactions. The everything bagel's seasoning definitely made it more subtle of the fact that it was gluten free. There's no seating at this place so it's more grab and go. They also offer coffee but I didn't opt for any. What's nice about the inside are the cool gift items they offer as well as the literal surf shop ambiance -- felt almost as if you were inside a shop in Hawaii. Price is premium in general on the island. There was a $4 upcharge for gluten free bagels so altogether we paid an extra $8. Total was around $25, but again during off season, we feel for the business as things start to slow down. Happy to support island businesses as long as the service is friendly and the food is great! Will give Surfside another chance next summer!

This place was super disappointing. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and I have nothing very good to…read moresay about it. My egg was so teeny tiny, it barely covered half the bagel. And on top of the egg was Orange American cheese that reminded me of the one that comes right out of the plastic wrapping... You can't even chalk this up to a one time error because I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to be made here! The bagel itself wasn't that bad, but it wasn't super memorable. Other than the quality of the food, there were some positives: the people who worked in there were very nice, their items are pretty cheap, and they were very quick in making your food. It seems to me like this is a great place if you're looking for something super convenient, as long as you don't have very high expectations for the quality of the food. If I were to do this visit over again I would ask for double egg and specify for cheddar cheese (or really any cheese other that Orange American).

I got there a little early, but o my had to wait about five minutes and it was ready to go. I would have liked to tried eating in here as it's a very cute place. We started with the Chili, garlic edamame and pork Bao buns. I quickly realized I should have skipped the appetizers because the ramen was going to fill me up. The edamame were great, as were the bao buns, but I just couldn't finish. Yer My son got the original chicken ramen with a little spice. Just spicy enough for him. I got the Katsuobushi Pork Ramen (pork belly), with some extra chicken and shrimp to increase my protein. My future so -in-law got the same thing. All of us thought the ramen was absolutely delicious, though I was hoping the pork belly was going to be a little crispier. The pork broth was really flavorful and the additional toppings filled me up. A work of warning in case this kind of thing freaks you out...the extra shrimp come with their heads on. This would definitely be a go-to place if I lived down here. Excellent, though pricey, like everything on the island.

Pork bao buns were a lil fatty this time around but the main event , ramen itself, was 10/10. Quality and speed makes for a great experience. Again can't wait to go back.
